Like Laura Ingalls putting Nellie Oleson in her place for the umpteenth time, Melissa Gilbert has addressed Megyn Kelly’s concern about Netflix’s recently announced Little House on the Prairie series being, as they say, “woke.”
Shortly after the reboot was announced on Wednesday, Kelly, a Fox News vet-turned-podcaster, called out Netflix on X, saying, “if you wokeify [sic] Little House on the Prairie I will make it my singular mission to absolutely ruin your project.”

After getting wind of Kelly’s threatened “mission,” Gilbert — who of course played Laura on the 1970s/’80s Little House series — posted to Instagram, inviting Kelly to “watch the original again,” noting: “TV doesn’t get too much more ‘woke’ than we did.
“We tackled: racism, addiction, nativism, antisemitism, misogyny, rape, spousal abuse and every other ‘woke’ topic you can think of,” Gilbert recalled, adding: “Thank you very much.”
The actual caption on Gilbert’s message again invited Kelly to “watch any episode on any streaming platform anywhere in the world,” to see her point.
Netflix’s series adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic novels is being shepherded by Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, The Vampire Diaries), who will serve as showrunner. The official logline reads, “Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical ‘Little House’ books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”
“[W]e’re excited to share [Wilder’s] enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story,” Netflix Drama Series VP Jinny Howe said in a statement. “Rebecca’s vision threads the needle with an emotional depth that will delight both new and existing fans of this beloved classic.”
