If the Chicago Bulls want to honor Derrick Rose with a statue in the future, the guard has some concerns.
In an interview with ESPN on Friday, Rose said that he would love to have his jersey retired. However, when asked if he should get a statue, Rose was far more dubious about the idea.
“The statues, the way people been creating the statues, no, I do not want no statue,” Rose told ESPN.
Rose, however, cares enough to deter the Bulls from considering the option.
“Jerry, no statue, bro. Please, Michael, no statue,” Rose told ESPN, looking at the camera to address Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf and president Michael Reinsdorf.
Rose was drafted first overall by the Bulls in 2008, and went on to win Rookie of the Year in 2009. His stint with Chicago was his longest and most successful: He was named league MVP in 2011 and earned three straight All-Star nods from 2010-12. Rose was traded by the Bulls in 2016, and spent the rest of his career bouncing between teams; he retired in 2024 after a 16-year career.
On Saturday, the Bulls are hosting “Derrick Rose Night” for their game against the New York Knicks. Both teams will wear warmup shirts honoring Rose, and Chicago will unveil an atrium with memorabilia from the three-time All-Star’s career.
“[My] jersey being retired, I would love that. That would be my way of getting close to the Top 75, and I’m only saying that because it relates to the MVP,” Rose said. “It’s only a handful, a small group that got that trophy back there. And to think that way of playing, the Chicago way of playing, is not in that 75, it makes you think about it a little bit or question it a little bit.”
Chicago has retired four jersey numbers — Jerry Sloan’s No. 4, Bob Love’s No. 10, Michael Jordan’s No. 23 and Scottie Pippen’s No. 33 — in the franchise’s history. The team also has banners hanging in the Bulls’ United Center that honor former coach Phil Jackson and former general manager Jerry Krause.
In a recent interview, NBA star Derrick Rose made it clear that he is not interested in having a statue created in his honor, citing the way people have been creating them as a reason for his reluctance.
Rose, who has had an impressive career in the NBA with multiple accolades and achievements, expressed his reservations about the idea of having a statue of himself erected. He explained that he feels uncomfortable with the way statues of athletes and public figures are often portrayed, saying, “I don’t want a statue if it’s going to be done the way people been creating them.”
The former MVP went on to say that he would prefer to be remembered for his actions and contributions on and off the court, rather than being immortalized in a physical form. He emphasized the importance of staying humble and true to oneself, regardless of any external recognition or praise.
While fans and supporters may be disappointed by Rose’s stance on statues, his focus on authenticity and humility serves as a powerful reminder of what truly matters in life. As he continues to make an impact in the sports world and beyond, Derrick Rose’s legacy will undoubtedly be defined by his character and values, rather than a statue.

Lyle Menendez, then 28, married model and salon receptionist Anna Eriksson on July 2, 1996, the day he and brother Erik Menendez were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 1989 double murder of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez.
Anna started writing to Lyle in 1993 during his first trial, which ended in a mistrial, and then moved to California to be near him the following year. She became a reliable presence at the months-long retrial that began in 1995 and resulted in convictions in March 1996, according to the Los Angeles Times.
They couldn’t take their vows in person, however, Lyle instead taking the plunge over speaker phone, the groom in custody and the bride in the office of defense attorney Leslie Abramson.
He seemingly hoped to be able to wed Anna in person, once he knew where he’d end up.
“We do have a marriage proceeding,” California Correctional Institution spokesman Lt. Jack Pitko told the LA Times in September 1996 once Lyle and Erik had been ordered to separate prisons. “There’s a waiting list…But I don’t see why he shouldn’t be able to get married if he follows all the rules.”
Anna filed for divorce in 2001 after, according to multiple reports from the time, she allegedly found out Lyle was exchanging letters with other women.
In a recent interview, Erik Menendez’s wife opened up about why she chooses not to post about his brother, Lyle Menendez, on social media. She explained that while she understands the curiosity surrounding their relationship, she wants to respect Lyle’s privacy and allow him to live his life away from the spotlight.
She emphasized that their family has been through a great deal of trauma and media scrutiny, and she wants to focus on their own healing and wellbeing. She also expressed her hope that Lyle can find peace and happiness in his own way, separate from the public image that has been created of him.
Ultimately, Erik’s wife wants to show support for her husband and their relationship, without feeling the need to constantly address or involve Lyle in their public presence. She hopes that fans and followers can understand and respect their decision to keep certain aspects of their lives private.
“The head coach is here. That should be enough,” Gambhir said to a room full of reporters wondering why Rohit was not at the pre-match press conference.
Rohit had skipped it before the third Test in Brisbane too – Shubman Gill spoke to the press then – but the explanation then was that he had not come for the optional training session at the Gabba where the press conference was being held. Thursday’s training session at the SCG was optional too, but Rohit was there at the ground, on the eve of a Test India must win to draw the series and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
So the question was asked: Is Rohit okay? “Everything is fine with Rohit,” Gambhir replied.
And when he was asked again whether Rohit was going to play, he said: “We’re going to have a look at the wicket and finalise it [the XI] tomorrow.”
That’s where it all kicked off.
Rohit has been struggling for form. He’s averaging 10.93 in his last nine Tests and only 6.2 in this series. He was late to India’s training on Thursday. Technically, it was an optional session, so it might not be right reading too much into it, but everybody was there.
Gill, who was left out of the XI for the MCG Test, was among the first set of batters in the SCG nets. Dhruv Jurel, who hasn’t played since the first Test in Perth, was among them too; it was one of the few times he has worked alongside the first-XI players. Jasprit Bumrah came out from the doors leading into the members pavilion and went straight to Gambhir for a little chat.
Still there was no sign of Rohit at the nets. He had been in the main ground playing a game of foot-volleyball and then disappeared. It was only after the others had batted for an hour that Rohit made his way out to join them, without his kit, in just his sweatshirt and shorts. He went down to where the team analyst, Hari, was standing. Then Bumrah joined the two. This had happened at the MCG as well. Rohit took his time to get to the outdoor nets and had a fairly long session facing only throwdowns. The only difference was in Melbourne he also attended the press conference.
At the SCG, he had a light, 40-minute hit facing the fielding coach T Dilip and throwdown specialist Daya off the sidearm. The other frontline batters were already done with their stints by this time. Rohit was batting alongside Tanush Kotian and Abhimanyu Easwaran. There were moments that he looked good, a pull shot off the front foot for example, moments that he seemed to have fun, an apology for an awkward throwback down the pitch had him smiling from ear to ear, and moments where he batted like someone not in form, he left one that took out his off stump.
At the end of the Brisbane Test, Rohit had admitted that while he wasn’t batting well, he was still ticking all the boxes that he needed to.
“As long as my mind, my body, my feet are moving well, I am pretty happy with how things are panning out for me,” Rohit had said two weeks ago. “Sometimes those numbers can tell you that it’s been a while since he has got big runs. But for a person like me, I think it’s all about how I feel in my mind.”
In Melbourne, he seemed to find a semblance of form, or at least a lot more faith in his defence, as he withstood a period of bowling that Pat Cummins said was pretty close to perfect from his side. Australia hunted for his outside edge, he denied them for the first hour, but then gave them their first breakthrough when he played a risky flick shot that ended up in the hands of the gully fielder.
“As a batter as well, a lot of the things that I am trying to do is not falling in the place that I would want to,” Rohit said after India went 2-1 down in the series. “But mentally, it is disturbing without a doubt.” Reports emerged in the media that Rohit was already thinking of retiring at the end of the Sydney Test, which then begged the question, if he was thinking along those lines, could he not step away now when the series is still alive?
India rarely reveal their XI on the eve of a Test match but Gambhir refusing to confirm whether Rohit will be part of it was odd. Doesn’t the captain walk straight in? Isn’t he the one who decides who plays, not the other way around? The new year has begun with plenty of intrigue for India.

The upcoming Sydney Cricket Ground Test match between Australia and India has cricket fans buzzing with excitement. One of the biggest questions on everyone’s minds is whether or not Indian batsman Rohit Sharma will be playing in the match.
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir recently weighed in on the topic, but his response may not be what fans were hoping for. When asked if he thinks Rohit Sharma will play in Sydney, Gambhir did not give a definitive answer. Instead, he stated that it will ultimately depend on the team management and the medical staff’s assessment of Sharma’s fitness.
Rohit Sharma has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the IPL and missed the first two Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Fans are eager to see him back in action, as he is known for his explosive batting and ability to change the course of a match.
With the series currently tied at 1-1, both teams will be looking to secure a victory in Sydney to gain the upper hand. Whether or not Rohit Sharma will be a part of India’s lineup remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain – his presence on the field could make a significant difference in the outcome of the match.

The Today Show star is known for his quick wit and tongue-in-cheek comments, and hilariously left his co-stars baffled with his latest quip on Monday’s Third Hour.
The NBC star was talking about the concept of celebrating friendship anniversaries, which resulted in anchors Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer discussing their thoughts on the idea.

Al then went on to reveal that he and his wife Deborah Roberts had celebrated their anniversary this year by combining it with a trip away with their friends.
Craig said to Al: “You and Deborah do a really good job at celebrating friendship all of the time,” to which he responded: “That’s because she doesn’t really like me!” “Stop it! Craig replied.
The couple are doting parents to two grown-up children, Leila and Nick, and Al is also dad to oldest daughter Courtney, who he shares with ex-wife Alice Bell.
Al and Courtney even wrote a cookbook together earlier in the year called Al Roker’s Recipes To Live By.
While Al faced a challenging few months back in 2023 following a health scare, his 2024 has proved to be a lot brighter. His beloved granddaughter Sky has played a huge part in this.
Courtney welcomed Sky with her husband Wesley in July 2023 and earlier this year she celebrated her first birthday.
At the time, both Al and Deborah took to Instagram independently to share photos of the little girl and a heartfelt messages.
Deborah wrote: “This little beauty is now 1! Happy birthday dear Sky pie! You’re a blessing to us all,” while Al reminisced on becoming a grandpa with a montage of photos and a message that read: “At 11:41am a year ago today, I got to fall@in love all over again in a very special way. Thanks @ouichefroker and @thatteacherwhodjs for the gift of this special girl, Sky.”
Sky was born to Al’s daughter Courtney and her husband Wes. “Pop-pop” Al, as he is affectionately called, has already become her biggest fan. Plus her meteorological name is a clear link to her meteorologist grandpa.
When she was born, Al couldn’t get over the emotions and gushed to his fellow Today hosts during an emotional conversation. “It is magical, it really is,” Al said at the time.
“The thing is, everyone tells you it’s going to be ‘this thing’ and you don’t know; it’s like when they tell you about having your first child. “And then to hold this little girl, knowing almost 35 years ago I held her mom?
“And here she is, 5 lbs., 15 oz. 19 inches long and she’s just perfect. She sleeps for four hours, wakes up, goes to the bathroom, sleeps another four. We’re on the same schedule!”
Al Roker left his co-stars baffled on the Today Show when he made a surprising confession about a certain co-worker. During a segment on the show, Roker revealed, “She doesn’t like me.”
The comment immediately sparked curiosity among his fellow hosts, who couldn’t believe what they were hearing. Roker didn’t provide any further details or context, leaving everyone wondering who he was referring to and what could have possibly caused this rift.
Fans of the show took to social media to speculate about the identity of the mystery co-worker and the reason behind their apparent dislike for Roker. Some suggested it could be a playful joke, while others wondered if there was some underlying tension between the two.
As the speculation continues, one thing is for sure – Al Roker’s confession has certainly added an unexpected twist to the dynamics of the Today Show. Stay tuned to see how this revelation unfolds.

Norovirus, sometimes called the “winter vomiting disease” or “two-bucket disease” — because it causes both vomiting and diarrhea — is on the rise across the nation, even as seasonal flu is taking off and walking pneumonia rages on.
At least 91 outbreaks were reported the week of Dec. 5, more than double the maximum number of outbreaks reported in the same time frame over the last several years.
The virus travels in vomit and diarrhea. It spreads by direct contact with someone who has norovirus, or by touching contaminated surfaces and then putting your fingers in your mouth. Contaminated food or liquids can also spread the virus.
Shellfish, especially oysters and clams, are also known to spread the bug, because they are filter feeders and can accumulate the virus from untreated sewage flowing into their habitats.
What are norovirus symptoms? How long do they last?
Symptoms begin 12 to 48 hours after exposure to the virus and last for about 1 to 3 days. Even after recovering, infected individuals can be contagious for two more weeks.
One of the dangers of prolific vomiting and diarrhea is the loss of fluids, which can lead to severe dehydration. This is something to watch out for in children and the elderly in particular — children may not produce tears when crying, or be unusually fussy or sleepy, if they are dehydrated.
There is no specific medicine that is used to treat the disease. Instead, symptoms can be managed with oral rehydration solutions like Pedialyte, which can help restore fluids and electrolytes that are lost from the body.
Cruises, which had a banner year in 2024, are often associated with norovirus, due to the close quarters and shared facilities, but the virus is not restricted to cruise ships. Nursing homes, hospitals, jails, and preschools can all be sites of an outbreak.
Norovirus is notoriously difficult to clean because it can stay on surfaces for weeks to months. It is important to wear gloves and use bleach when disinfecting a contaminated surface, such as one that has been in contact with vomit or diarrhea. Bleach should be left on the area for at least five minutes.
Use disposable paper towels, rather than reusable rags, when cleaning a contaminated surface.
There’s currently no approved vaccine for norovirus, although Moderna has begun a phase three trial in the U.S. for a vaccine using mRNA technology and aims to test it in 25,000 adults worldwide. Norovirus causes about 200,000 deaths worldwide each year.
In this post, I will be discussing common scams and fraudulent schemes that don’t work and how you can protect yourself from falling victim to them.
1. Phishing scams: Phishing scams involve sending emails or messages that appear to be from a legitimate source, such as a bank or government agency, in order to trick individuals into providing personal information or clicking on malicious links. To protect yourself, always verify the sender’s email address and never click on suspicious links or provide personal information in response to unsolicited messages.
2. Pyramid schemes: Pyramid schemes promise individuals quick and easy money by recruiting others to participate in a scheme where the primary source of income is based on recruiting new members, rather than selling legitimate products or services. Protect yourself by researching any investment opportunity thoroughly and avoiding schemes that rely on recruiting others.
3. Fake job offers: Scammers may pose as potential employers and offer fake job opportunities in order to obtain personal information or money from job seekers. To protect yourself, always research the company and verify the legitimacy of the job offer before providing any personal information or payment.
4. Investment scams: Investment scams promise high returns with low risk, but often involve fraudulent schemes that result in financial loss for investors. Protect yourself by conducting thorough research on any investment opportunity and avoiding offers that sound too good to be true.
Overall, it’s important to stay vigilant and skeptical of any unsolicited messages or offers that seem too good to be true. By taking precautions and researching opportunities before committing, you can protect yourself from falling victim to common scams and fraudulent schemes that don’t work.
Tammi Menendez has a lot of hopes for the new year when it comes to her husband Erik Menendez‘s quest for freedom after almost 35 years behind bars.
But just because she’s understandably a little preoccupied with her own marital future, it doesn’t mean she doesn’t hope for the best for her brother-in-law as well.
While now former L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón recommended that the siblings get a resentencing hearing and supported their bid for clemency in a letter to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, citing his belief that Lyle and Erik were abused before they killed their mother and father, he lost his bid for reelection in November. The brothers are awaiting the outcome of new D.A. Nathan Hochman‘s review of the case. Their resentencing hearing, originally scheduled for Dec. 11, was postponed until Jan. 30.
So, Erik and Lyle will be ringing in yet another new year from prison.
More from E! Online
“Happy New Year to my dearest Erik! I wish you were here to ring in the new year of your freedom,” Tammi posted on X on the morning of Dec. 31. “I’m holding onto hope that 2025 will be the year you finally come home. #menendez #menendezjustice.”
VINCE BUCCI/AFP via Getty Images
While she’s been married to Erik for 25 years, enough fellow X users apparently questioned her lack of well wishes for Lyle (including one who observed that Tammi was “really allergic to using the Erik and Lyle’s hashtag”) that she felt compelled to address why she doesn’t shout out her brother-in-law more often.
Her explanation was simple enough.
“I’ve been asked why I don’t always mention Lyle in my tweets,” Tammi wrote on X a few hours later. I want to be clear: I fully support Lyle and believe he should be released from prison. However, I’m married to Erik, so my tweets often reflect the perspective of a wife focused on her husband.”
While they’ve often been treated as a packaged set in the media and by the culture at large (the Ryan Murphy-produced Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is nominated for three Golden Globes), Tammi isn’t the only one who doesn’t see them that way.
“While they’re called the ‘Menendez brothers case,’ there’s an Erik Menendez case and Lyle Menendez case,” Hochman told NBC News’ Lester Holt earlier this month. “So we will look at each case separately, which is the way they actually should be handled.”
They were sentenced in 1996 after being convicted at the end of their second trial, the first having ended with two deadlocked juries. Lyle, who along with Erik testified about being sexually and psychologically abused by their father during the first trial, did not take the stand during the retrial and most of the abuse details they testified to previously were ruled inadmissable.
Gascón recommended that the brothers be resentenced to 50 years to life, making them eligible for parole.
Netflix
After penning the 2005 memoir They Said We’d Never Make It, Tammi—who has a daughter from a previous relationship—has lived a relatively private life.
But she rejoined the narrative in September to pass on Erik’s reaction to Ryan Murphy’s Monsters via her X account.
“I believed we had moved beyond the lies and ruinous character portrayals of Lyle, creating a caricature of Lyle rooted in horrible and blatant lies rampant in the show,” Erik said, per X. “I can only believe they were done so on purpose. It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent.”
“When the Ryan Murphy series came out, it was such a caricature of them that the pendulum swing backlash actually created a focus on it,” attorney Mark Geragos said during an Oct. 16 press conference, “and people then took a look.”
While they had a ways to go, Geragos said, “If they are resentenced, the judge under California law has the ability to recall and sentence them to a wide range of options.”
In the meantime, learn all about the women Erik and Lyle married after being sentenced to life in prison who are hoping they’ll be released soon:
Anna Eriksson
Rebecca Sneed
Lyle didn’t rush into anything when he married journalist Rebecca Sneed, reportedly 33 at the time, in November 2003: He had known her for 10 years, first through letters and eventually from in-person visits, a prison spokesperson told the Associated Press in confirming the nuptials.
The ceremony took place at Mule Creek State Prison near Sacramento, where Lyle resided until he was reunited with Erik in 2018 at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in southern San Diego County.
“Our interaction tends to be very free of distractions and we probably have more intimate conversations than most married spouses do, who are distracted by life’s events,” Lyle told People in 2017. At the time, Rebecca was living in Sacramento and was said to visit weekly.
“We try and talk on the phone every day, sometimes several times a day,” Lyle added. “I have a very steady, involved marriage and that helps sustain me and brings a lot of peace and joy. It’s a counter to the unpredictable, very stressful environment here.”
Rebecca “put up with a lot,” he acknowledged. “But she has the courage to deal with the obstacles. It would be easier to leave, but I’m profoundly grateful that she doesn’t.”
“Lyle and I have been separated for a while now but remain best friends and family,” she wrote Nov. 22 on her official Facebook page. “I continue to run his Facebook pages, with input from him, and I am forever committed to the enduring fight for Lyle and Erik’s freedom, as has been so evident over the years.”
She added, “I’ll continue to update you all on the progress of the case because I believe we all have the common goal of seeing the guys walk free! I will never stop fighting for them.”
And because tabloid rumors don’t stop outside the prison gates, the post also noted, “This is NOT a cheating scandal.”
Tammi Saccoman
Erik’s wife TammiMenendez, now 62, was married to Chuck Saccoman when she first spied the younger Menendez brother on TV in 1993 and felt a special place in her heart for the 22-year-old murder defendant.
As she latertold People, she informed her husband she was going to write to Erik and Chuck gave her his blessing.
“I saw Tammi’s letter and I felt something. I received thousands of letters, but I set this one aside. I got a feeling,” Erik told the publication. “And I wrote her back. Tammi and I continued to correspond. I enjoyed writing to her. It was a slow friendship. It was special to me because it was not associated with the trial and the media. Tammi was someone not in the craziness.”
However, as Tammi detailed in her 2005 book They Said We’d Never Make It: My Life With Erik Menendez, she doubted the brothers’ abuse defense at first. (And she told MSNBC that Erik mentioned having a girlfriend of several years early on.)
But in 1996, as Tammi has detailed in her book and interviews, she found out that Chuck had abused her teenage daughter from a previous relationship. (They also shared a then-9-month-old daughter.)
Chuck turned himself into police and died by suicide two days later, according to People.
After Chuck died, “I reached out to Erik,” she told the publication in 2005. “He comforted me. Our letters started taking on a more serious tone.”
Tammi admitted she was “really nervous” when she finally met Erik in person at Folsom State Prison in August 1997.
“Erik had no idea what I looked like; I’d only sent him a tiny, 1-by-1 picture,” she explained. “But when he walked into the room, he was so full of life, he hopped down the stairs. It was like I was meeting an old friend.”
They married in 1999, a Twinkie serving as their wedding cake.
And they’ve been together ever since, though Tammi has acknowledged that the lack of conjugal visits can be tough.
“A kiss when you come in, a kiss when you leave,” she described the routine on MSNBC in December 2005. ‘You can hold hands and that part of it is very difficult, and people don’t understand.”
Erik said he tried not to think about what was then the likelihood that he would never get out of prison.
“Tammi is what gets me through,” he told Peoplein 2005. “I can’t think about the sentence. When I do, I do it with a great sadness and a primal fear. I break into a cold sweat. It’s so frightening I just haven’t come to terms with it.”
But on a more optimistic note, Tammi had also taught him “how to be a good husband,” Erik said. “There is no makeup sex, only a 15-minute phone call, so you really have to try to make things work.”
In a recent interview, Erik Menendez’s wife, Tammi Menendez, opened up about why she chooses not to post about his brother, Lyle Menendez, on social media.
Tammi explained that while she loves and supports both of the Menendez brothers, she wants to respect their privacy and individuality. She believes that each brother deserves to have their own identity and space to express themselves without constantly being compared to one another.
Additionally, Tammi expressed that she prefers to keep her social media posts focused on her relationship with Erik and their life together, rather than bringing in unnecessary drama or attention by discussing Lyle.
Overall, Tammi’s decision to not post about Lyle on social media reflects her commitment to maintaining boundaries and respecting the complexities of the Menendez brothers’ relationship. Ultimately, she wants to ensure that both brothers have the opportunity to live their lives authentically and independently.

The Detroit Lions probably didn’t have to play their starters on Monday night but did, and the blueprint for the rest of their season became clearer.
The Lions can score a lot of points. And they will have to if they want to make it to the first Super Bowl in franchise history.
The Lions’ offense was good and a defense that has been battered by injuries had a hard time slowing the San Francisco 49ers down, though it came up with a couple of key second-half interceptions. The Lions won, 40-34, with the offense doing what it has done all season — racking up plenty of yards, big plays and points. That’s how they’ll have to win, starting with a massive Week 18 showdown against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.
The Lions’ win helped them in one way, in terms of their clinching scenario. If the Vikings and Lions tie, Detroit will win the division. The Lions got that edge due to Monday night’s win. They’ll go into Week 18 needing a win or tie to win the NFC North and No. 1 seed in the conference. Minnesota will win the division and be the NFC’s top seed if they win in Week 18. The Vikings and Lions both go into the game with 14-2 records. That game next week will feature the most combined wins for any regular-season game in NFL history.
The loser of that matchup will be locked into the No. 5 wild-card seed and will be on the road during wild-card weekend.
As for Monday night, head coach Dan Campbell saw the benefit in playing the game as usual. The biggest lesson might have been that the Lions’ defense is going to have to rely on big plays because it’s too injured to hold down many playoff offenses.
The good news for the Lions is maybe their offense is good enough to outscore each team they’ll face the rest of the season.
49ers move the ball easily
The 49ers had one more game in the national spotlight before their season ends, and they were up for it.
San Francisco drove downfield and scored when rookie first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall caught a pass from Brock Purdy in the end zone for a touchdown. The Lions responded with a touchdown of their own to Jameson Williams but the 49ers found it just as easy to move downfield on their second drive. Purdy hit fullback Kyle Juszczyk for a TD.
One play into the second quarter, the 49ers had 121 yards and two touchdowns on two possessions. Purdy ended up with 377 yards passing, though he left the game in the final minutes with what appeared to be a right hand injury, suffered on a sack. Joshua Dobbs came off the bench and immediately led a touchdown drive.
The Lions’ defense isn’t stellar but the offense is elite. Williams got his second touchdown on a fantastic play, as Amon-Ra St. Brown caught a short pass and then lateraled it to Williams at full speed. Williams beat the 49ers’ secondary for a 41-yard score. The Lions have a seemingly endless bag of trick plays.
The Lions’ offense isn’t much of a question. The defense is the concern. Halfway through the second quarter, each quarterback had a perfect 158.3 passer rating. That’s great for Jared Goff and not so good for the Lions’ defense.
Lions open up a lead
The 49ers were moving the ball in the second half but Lions safety Kerby Joseph made a couple of big plays to turn the game in Detroit’s favor.
Joseph’s first interception led to a touchdown. St. Brown scored on a fourth down to give the Lions a 31-28. Then in the fourth quarter, with the 49ers driving and trailing 34-28, Joseph picked off Purdy again on a pass over the middle. Jahmyr Gibbs scored a 30-yard touchdown run to put the game away after that.
The Lions’ offense is so good that if Detroit’s defense can win the turnover battle, that might be enough to win. Detroit might not have won without Joseph’s two picks, so give the defense credit for coming up with the big plays when it had to.
The final game of the 2024 regular season will be a classic with massive stakes. Maybe the only sure thing is we’ll see a lot of points, from both teams.
LIVE COVERAGE IS OVER31 updates
Detroit’s defense had its struggles tonight, but a pair of Kerby Joseph interceptions of Brock Purdy proved to be the difference in the game. Detroit’s offense converted both turnovers into touchdowns in a 40-34 win.
The Lions will continue to carry concerns about their depleted defense into next week and the playoffs after allowing 475 yards and 34 points to the 49ers. But there’s nothing wrong with their offense. And they’re a win away from securing the NFC North title with the winner of next week’s showdown against the Vikings earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.
Lions hold on after 49ers add late touchdown
Joshua Dobbs led the 49ers to a late touchdown after replacing an apparently injured Brock Purdy. But Jake Moody missed the extra point then kicked the onside kick out of bounds. Detroit kneels down on a 40-34 win.
The bigger concern in San Francisco is the status of Brock Purdy, who got hurt late in a meaningless game.
Brock Purdy appears to be hurt
Brock Purdy has exited San Franciso’s last drive after apparently hurting his right wrist on a hit. He appeared to struggle while throwing balls on the sideline and is out of the game in favor of Joshua Dobbs.
Jahmyr Gibbs TD puts Lions in control
Jahmyr Gibbs likely just iced it. The Lions running back streaked down the right sideline for a 30-yard touchdown to extend Detroit’s lead to 40-28 with 2:58 remaining. A missed extra point is of little consequence.
Purdy’s second pick short-circuits drive into Lions territory
Brock Purdy’s second interception of the night was a big one. A pick to Kerby Joseph cuts short a drive into Lions territory midway through the fourth quarter. The Lions regain possession with 7:34 remaining and a chance to run clock and extend their lead to two possessions while holding a 34-28 advantage.
Joseph has come up with both interceptions of Purdy. His first led to a go-ahead touchdown for Detroit.
Lions don’t go for it on fourth-and-8, and a FG
A pair of busted screen passes fall incomplete and force a Lions field-goal attempt on fourth-and-8. Jake Bates is good from 42 yards to extend Detroit’s lead to 34-28 with 10:19 remaining.
Jake Moody misses from 58
Jake Moody’s now 0-for-2 on a pair of long field goals. After a third-and-10 stop by the Lions, Moody missed wide left from 58 yards. He missed from 51 in the first half. Detroit takes over with a 31-28 lead and 13:25 remaining.
Fourth quarter, still no punts
The fourth quarter is underway, and we’re still without a punt tonight.
Fourth-down Lions gamble pays off
The Lions didn’t miss on their second fourth-down attempt in the red zone. A Jared Goff touchdown pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown gives the Lions a 31-28 lead after their fourth-down attempt in the first half fell incomplete. The Lions convert Brock Purdy’s interception into seven points.
Purdy’s first mistake gives Lions the ball
Brock Purdy’s perfect passer rating is no more. A air-mail interception to Kerby Joseph give the Lions the ball back and a chance to take the lead late in the third quarter. San Francisco leads, 28-24.
Jake Bates is good from 57 after Nick Bosa sack
Nick Bosa’s second sack of Jared Goff puts the Lions in fourth-and-16 and forces a 57-yard field-goal attempt by Jake Bates. Bates is good from deep to salvage the drive and cut San Francisco’s lead to 28-24.
Ricky Pearsall sets up Deebo Samuel TD
Deebo Samuel got the score, but Ricky Pearsall made it possible and continues to star in this offense tonight. A 39-yard Pearsall catch-and-run put the 49ers deep in Detroit territory before Samuel scored on a shovel from Brock Purdy from five yards. 49ers lead, 28-21.
Pearsall’s up to 102 yards on the night and looks like a strong play for a feature role ahead of Samuel in the 49ers offense next season.
Still no punts
The 49ers came up with a fourth-down stop, and Jake Moody missed a field for San Francisco in the first half. But this game has yet to see a punt early in the third quarter.
Lions strike first in 2nd half
We have a tie game. The Lions cap a 66-yard drive with a six-yard touchdown from Jared Goff to Sam LaPorta to open the second half. A successful two-point conversion ties the game at 21. A fun game for a contest of little consequence.
Lions starters remain in
We’re underway in the second half. The Lions have the ball first and are still playing their starters, as Dan Campbell promised.
49ers 21, Lions 13: Key first-half stats
Detroit’s depleted defense is giving Lions fans anxiety ahead of the playoffs as each team’s offense has come out firing tonight.
Brock Purdy: 14 of 16 for 200 yards with 2 TDs, no turnovers: 1 rushing TD Jared Goff: 11 of 13 for 138 yards with 1 TD and no turnovers
Isaac Guerendo: 7 carries for 26 yards, 3 catches for 56 yards Jahmyr Gibbs: 9 carries for 60 yards
Ricky Pearsall: 4 catches for 63 yards, 1 TD Jameson Williams: 1 catch for 44 yards, 1 TD; 1 TD run
49ers total offense: 260 yards on 8.4 yards per play; zero turnovers Lions total offense: 211 yards on 7 yards per play; zero turnovers
Missed Jake Moody FG ends half
Jake Moody is wide right from 51 yards with 2 seconds remaining, and the 49ers come up without points for the first time in the first half. It’s been a tough go for Moody, who’s 10 for 17 on field goals in recent weeks after a 13-for-14 start to the season. A sprained ankle in Week 5 derailed his season.
San Francisco takes a 21-13 lead into halftime and is generally having its way with a depleted Lions defense despite coming up short on its final drive.
We have a stop
The Lions went for it on fourth-and-3 at the 49ers 8-yard line. Rookie cornerback Renardo Green came up with the breakup in the end zone on a pass from Jared Goff to Sam LaPorta. It’s the first drive by either team that didn’t end with a touchdown.
Lions take over on downs with 1:13 remaining in the half.
We have an incompletion
Jared Goff’s incomplete pass with 5:05 left in the first half is the first of the game by either quarterback. These offenses are having a field day.
3 49ers drives, 3 49ers TDs
San Franciso’s offense is off to its best start of the season. The 49ers now hold a 21-13 lead after their third touchdown in three drives. Ricky Pearsall set this one up with a 40-yard grab from Brock Purdy before Purdy ran it in himself from nine yards.
Not a great sign for a banged-up Lions defense on the cusp of the playoffs.
In a thrilling Sunday matchup, the Detroit Lions pulled off a stunning 40-34 victory against the San Francisco 49ers. Despite having already been eliminated from playoff contention, the Lions did not rest their starters and instead came out firing on all cylinders.
Quarterback Jared Goff had a standout performance, throwing for over 300 yards and four touchdowns. The Lions’ offense was firing on all cylinders, with running back D’Andre Swift also making a significant impact with over 100 yards rushing and a touchdown.
The defense also stepped up in a big way, forcing several turnovers and holding the 49ers offense in check for much of the game. Defensive end Romeo Okwara had a standout performance, recording multiple sacks and disrupting the 49ers’ passing game.
The win was a statement for the Lions, showing that they are a team that can compete with the best in the league. Despite a disappointing season, the Lions showed resilience and determination in their victory over the 49ers.
With the season coming to a close, the Lions will look to build on this momentum and carry it into next season. Fans can be hopeful for a brighter future for the Lions, as they continue to show that they are a team on the rise.
The Traitors, one of the biggest streaming hits of the last year, is coming back with another season and I’m hopeful that the upcoming season of the show doesn’t make the same mistakes that nearly ruined the last. During its first season, The Traitors used an interesting format that made it a bit more complicated to follow. The game of deception, which is hosted by actor Alan Cumming in a massive Scottish castle, began with a cast of reality stars mixed with everyday people who don’t have a background in reality TV. The combination made for some intense, interesting drama.
While the first season of the series incorporated reality stars and civilians, the series decided to shift gears for The Traitors season 2. With things moving in a new direction for the second season, the US version of the show moved away from the UK version, differentiating itself with a full cast of reality TV stars. The Traitors UK features a cast of everyday people playing the game, and the US sat somewhere in the middle before deciding to shift to a reality TV star cast. While some were wary of The Traitors season 2’s choice, it was mostly smooth.
The Traitors Season 3 Has An All-Star Cast Of Reality Royalty
Reality TV Stars Are Thrilled At The Opportunity
Although The Traitors season 2’s cast was believed to be the ultimate reality TV lineup, The Traitors season 3’s cast may have upped the ante even further. As The Traitors season 2’s season came to a close, it was clear that cast members like Big Brother legend Dan Gheesling, The Bachelor star Peter Weber, and Survivor champion Parvati Shallow had been able to find a new niche for themselves in the game, while others had a different experience. The Traitors is a competition based around a fast-paced social strategy, which reality TV gamers often have a lot of experience with.
Reality stars coming into The Traitors season 3 were aware early on that they had some big shoes to fill, and the Emmy award-nominated casting team behind The Traitors delivered. The Traitors season 3’s cast includes some of the most infamous faces in reality TV mixed in with some of the most incredible players from other reality competitions. From Vanderpump Rules villain Tom Sandoval to Survivor icon Boston Rob Mariano, the caliber of the reality stars on The Traitors season 3 seems like it will make for an incredible season of treachery and deception, which could make another great season.
The Traitors Season 2 Suffered From Issues Of Gamers Vs. Stars
The Competition Became More About Morality
Custom image by César García
Throughout The Traitors season 2, it was clear to me that there was a major divide between the two types of reality TV stars in the game. On one side were the gamers, the players who had past experiences in reality TV competition shows, and on the other side were the stars, the players who were either unfamiliar with reality TV or were on unstructured shows like The Real Housewives. While both groups were capable of playing hard, the cast divided quickly as they moved through the early stages of the competition, making it clear there would be an issue.
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
As the numbers began to dwindle, it was clear that the group of gamers had a different style of play than the stars of unstructured shows. The gamers understood that they were in a strategy game that would sometimes push them to make decisions based less on their values and more on the desire to win the game. They knew how to check the morality at the door of The Traitors castle and compete, while the majority of the reality TV stars who had no background in competition or reality TV gaming didn’t.
Making decisions based on who was more deserving and what they felt was right or wrong made for difficulties in choosing who to eliminate, whether or not to accept the offer to become a Traitor, and generally bottlenecked the game throughout the second half of the season. While The Traitors season 2 was an exciting back-and-forth, the divide between the groups of stars made it tough to watch in moments, because the unstructured stars weren’t aware of how to put themselves into “game” mode. It was also frustrating for the gamers, who understood what was happening but couldn’t fix it.
The Traitors Season 3 Could Avoid A Predictable Fate With A Few Moves
The Show Could Be Rejuvenated Easily
Although The Traitors season 3 has a cast that is divided between gamers and stars, there are ways the series can ensure things are less predictable. While there are traditionally multiple Traitors chosen at the game’s beginning, using only one Traitor for the beginning missions and round tables could be an interesting way to create tension throughout the group, who would assume there were more. The gamers would be pushed to work more closely with the unstructured stars, who would be faced head-on with the realities of the game. This could ensure The Traitors season 3 continues the show’s success.
The Traitors premieres January 9, 2025 on Peacock.

I Hope The Traitors Season 3 Doesn’t Make This Crucial Mistake That Nearly Ruined Season 2 (The Show May End If This Season Fails)
Fans of the hit thriller series “The Traitors” are eagerly anticipating the release of Season 3, but there is one crucial mistake that nearly ruined Season 2 that they are hoping the showrunners will avoid this time around.
In Season 2, the pacing of the show was off, with episodes dragging on and storylines feeling disjointed. This led to a decline in viewership and critical reception, leaving many wondering if the show would even be renewed for another season.
If Season 3 fails to address this pacing issue and fails to deliver a cohesive and engaging storyline, it may be the end of “The Traitors” as we know it. Fans are hopeful that the show will learn from past mistakes and deliver a thrilling and well-executed season that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
Only time will tell if “The Traitors” can redeem itself in Season 3, but one thing is for sure – the stakes are higher than ever, and the future of the show hangs in the balance.

Payton Pritchard is in the middle of the race for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award, and statistical accomplishments can only help his case.
He finished just two rebounds shy of his second-career triple-double Friday night. He had 18 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds.
Pritchard was in decent position for a potential ninth rebound with 5:36 to go in the fourth quarter. Indiana’s James Johnson fired up a 3-point shot from the top of the key, and Pritchard was standing in the paint as it clanged off the back of the rim.
Pritchard was on one side of the basket, and 6-foot-6 forward Jordan Walsh was on the other. The taller, younger Walsh sprung for the rebound and grabbed it.
After the game, Pritchard said he knew how close he was to the triple-double and explained why he didn’t mind Walsh grabbing the board. It wasn’t that he didn’t want the triple-double. It’s just that he didn’t believe in chasing stats solely for the purpose of pulling off the feat.
“I didn’t let him know, but after hearing the fans reactions and it’s very easy to see up at the scoreboard — you can hear the gasps,” Pritchard said. “But, I’ve said this before, I don’t want to chase it because it doesn’t feel like a real accomplishment. You want to get it naturally, in the flow of the game. Hopefully I’ll get another opportunity and get it then.”
What came more naturally for Pritchard was his promotion of teammate Jaylen Brown’s defense. Brown had scored a season-high 44 points in the game, but he also made four steals.
Pritchard chimed in with praise, unprompted, after Brown had finished answering a question about the steals.
“To be honest, what he is capable of doing at his size, you don’t see many people picking up full-court like that guarding the best guards in the world,” Pritchard said. “Usually, somebody his size would be guarding a wing but he’s picking up the best point guards in the world full-court and then scoring 25 (points), people really don’t understand how difficult that really is.”
“They overestimate what that takes,” he added. “He definitely should be in the all-defensive team category because we give him the hardest assignments. It’s an exhausting thing and he’s creating havoc and making things tough every night. They definitely need to take notice.”
Pritchard nodded his head as he finished his comments, and Brown turned to him with a wide grin.
“Man, appreciate you brother,” Brown said, as the pair slapped hands.
Earlier in the conversation, Brown and Pritchard were asked about their goals for the New Year. Brown said his two goals were to continue to his leadership role on defense and to keep empowering teammates like Pritchard.
“Just coming out, making sure that our guys are ready to go,” Brown said. “Empowering guys, continuing to feed confidence into our team. I think we’re only as strong as each link. So, empowering guys to continue their great play.”
“It would mean a lot for the team to help Payton get Sixth Man of the Year,” he added. “So, just continuing to empower everybody on our team, giving them confidence, and kind of lead us on defense as well, picking up guys full-court, whatever I’ve got to do, getting steals, being active. When our team is at it’s best, our guys are fully empowered and flying around on defense.”

Payton Pritchard, the rising star of the Boston Celtics, recently opened up about his approach to playing the game and why he doesn’t make chasing triple-doubles a priority. In an interview with ESPN, Pritchard explained that while triple-doubles are an impressive feat, his main focus is on helping his team win games.
“I’m not out there trying to chase stats or records,” Pritchard said. “For me, it’s all about doing whatever it takes to help my team win. Whether that’s scoring, rebounding, assisting, or playing defense, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to contribute to our success.”
Pritchard’s selfless attitude and team-first mentality have earned him respect from his teammates and coaches, who appreciate his willingness to sacrifice personal accolades for the greater good of the team.
While Pritchard may not be racking up triple-doubles on a nightly basis, his impact on the court is undeniable. As one of the Celtics’ key playmakers, Pritchard’s versatility and basketball IQ have been crucial to the team’s success this season.
So while some players may be focused on padding their stats, Payton Pritchard’s commitment to doing whatever it takes to win sets him apart as a true team player and a valuable asset to the Celtics.
