Suns’ Royce O’Neale exits with ankle injury, doesn’t return

Phoenix Suns wing Royce O’Neale exited Saturday’s contest against the Golden State Warriors with a left ankle injury and was later ruled out.

O’Neale was defending Warriors guard Dennis Schroder and made a terrific play to block his layup attempt at the rim, but in the process, severely rolled his left ankle. O’Neale, one to play through pain quite often without showing much, was down in pain and the Suns had to call timeout to pause play. He stayed down for a minute before limping off the floor and to the locker room.

The 31-year-old is having a career year, averaging a career-high 10.8 points per game and is shooting 44.8% at 3-point range.

Phoenix is going through major issues with absences right now. Devin Booker has missed the last five games due to a left groin strain while Grayson Allen has been out for the previous four contests, as he is in concussion protocol. Jusuf Nurkic served the first game of a three-game suspension on Saturday as well.

The Phoenix Suns faced a setback in their game against the Los Angeles Clippers as forward Royce O’Neale exited the game with an ankle injury and did not return. O’Neale, a key contributor for the Suns, left fans and teammates concerned about his health and the impact his absence may have on the team’s performance. Stay tuned for updates on O’Neale’s condition and his potential return to the court. #PhoenixSuns #RoyceONeale #InjuryUpdate

What Happened to Jacolby Criswell? Injury Update Doesn’t Look Good for UNC’s Starting QB vs. UConn

The North Carolina Tar Heels were already down early against the UConn Huskies in the Fenway Bowl, but matters only got worse. Starting QB Jacolby Criswell suffered an injury that could keep him out of the rest of the game, thrusting backup Michael Merdinger into the lineup.

    Latest Jacolby Criswell Injury Update

On just the second play of UNC’s second offensive drive of the game with 4:57 left in the first, Criswell scrambled for seven yards but took a hip-drop-esque tackle that saw him land heavily on his shoulder.

After being tended to by trainers, Criswell walked to the locker room with his left arm visibly hanging. It’s unclear if he will be able to return at this time. He exited the contest with one completion for seven yards and the aforementioned seven-yard run.

Who Is North Carolina Backup QB Michael Merdinger?

With Criswell out, Merdinger, a three-star true freshman, took over under center.

Merdinger did not throw a pass in the regular season, and his first attempt in the Fenway Bowl fell incomplete.

The 6’3″, 200-pound QB was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, before moving to the U.S. when he was eight. He is believed to be the first-ever Israeli-born athlete to play in the FBS.

In his final season at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Merdinger nearly set school records with 2,850 passing yards (second) and 26 TDs (third). He’s also a bit of a dual threat, having competed in track and field.

UNC fans were left holding their breath during Saturday’s game against UConn as starting quarterback Jacolby Criswell went down with a serious injury. The injury update doesn’t look good for Criswell, as initial reports suggest he could be out for an extended period of time.

Criswell, who had been having a solid season leading the Tar Heels offense, suffered the injury in the first quarter of the game against UConn. It was a devastating blow for Criswell and the team, as they were hoping to build on their recent success and make a push for the playoffs.

The injury update is still pending further evaluation, but early indications suggest that Criswell could be facing a lengthy recovery process. This news is a major setback for the UNC football team, as they will now need to rely on backup quarterbacks to lead the offense for the foreseeable future.

UNC fans are hoping for a speedy recovery for Criswell, but in the meantime, they will need to rally behind the rest of the team as they look to navigate the rest of the season without their starting quarterback. Stay tuned for further updates on Criswell’s injury status and how it will impact the Tar Heels moving forward.

Amid their rehearsals, Us broke the news that Savchenko and Nader started hooking up. They later stopped after they were eliminated from DWTS in October before reuniting ahead of the season 33 finale earlier this month following back-and-forth cryptic TikTok videos.

“I don’t know what to say about that,” Nader exclusively told Us in December. “I don’t even know what’s going on. I know I am confusing people, but I am confusing myself. I am loving life.”

At the time, Nader was unsure about a long-term future with Savchenko but stressed that “he’s great.” The model further said she “had so much fun” introducing Savchenko to her relatives at Thanksgiving last month.

  • Eric Dickerson doesn’t believe Saquon Barkley will break record

Eric Dickerson doesn’t believe Saquon Barkley will break record

The NFL single-season rushing record has stood for 40 years, far longer than Saquon Barkley has been on this planet.

But now, with two games to play, the Philadelphia Eagles running back is 268 yards from eclipsing the mark of Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson, who set the league record of 2,105 with the Rams in 1984.

Barkley, 27, who signed with the Eagles last offseason after spending the first part of his career with the rival New York Giants, is also 162 yards from becoming the ninth player to run for 2,000 yards in a season.

The other seven are Adrian Peterson (2,097 with Minnesota in 2012), Jamal Lewis (2,066 with Baltimore in 2003), Barry Sanders (2,053 with Detroit in 1997), Derrick Henry (2027 with Tennessee in 2020), Terrell Davis (2,008 with Denver in 1998), Chris Johnson (2,006 with Tennessee in 2009) and O.J. Simpson (2,003 with Buffalo in 1973).

The Eagles finish the regular season with home games against the Dallas Cowboys and the Giants.

Dickerson spoke to The Times this week about Barkley, running backs in general, the Rams and the thought of his longstanding record going away:

How do you feel about the possibility of Barkley breaking your single-season rushing record?

I don’t think he’ll break it. But if he breaks it, he breaks it. Do I want him to break it? Absolutely not. I don’t pull no punches on that. But I’m not whining about it. He had 17 games to do it? Hey, football is football. That’s the way I look at it. If he’s fortunate to get over 2,000 yards and get the record, it’s a great record to have.

So the 17 games part doesn’t bother you, even though you set it with 16 games?

O.J. Simpson was my favorite player. He went over 2,000 yards in 14 games. It took me 15 games to get to 2,000. I had one extra game to play. Getting to 2,000 is an accomplishment in itself. I got close to that three other times.

Eric Dickerson, left, meets with his favorite player, O.J. Simpson, at a San Francisco hotel in 1984.

    (Paul Sakuma / Associated Press)

Do you look at it from the perspective that the record is eventually going to fall?

I’ve always said that the one that’s going to last the longest is me setting the rookie record with 1,808. Because you only get one shot at that. You’re only a rookie once.

What do you think of Barkley as a back?

I like him. But I tend to like big backs. He’s not a big back like I was. He’s elusive, he’s tough, he runs hard, he can catch the ball out of the backfield. I think he’s a great player.

I always felt like he’d never reach his potential when he was in New York. You could take Emmitt Smith and put him in Cleveland, and he’d have never been the Emmitt Smith we know now.

    So it’s location, location, location?

Yes. Even myself. If you’d have put me in Cincinnati on a bad team, I’d have never been that guy. Because these bad football teams with no blocking, I don’t care how great you are. If you don’t have the guys in front of you, you can’t do it.

And that’s why you go to those lengths to thank your blockers?

I saw what [San Francisco quarterback] Brock Purdy did with his offensive line, buying them those Tundras. I got a text from Jackie [Slater, Hall of Fame Rams tackle], “Hey, man, where’s my Tundra?” I told him I was making $175,000 at the time. I could afford about two Tundras and be broke.

Will you be tuned in to watch Barkley?

I don’t sit down and watch games, except the Rams, and I work for the team. But I’ll have no choice but to keep up with it because I get so many text messages. People blowing up my phone like, “Man, it’s not fair. He gets 17 games,” or, “We’re going to put a hex on him.”

Any thoughts on Rams running back Kyren Williams?

I like him as a back. He’s able to carry the ball 29, 28, 27 times. That takes a toll on you. I was able to do it, but there’s very few backs that are able to do that. He’s not a real big guy, so that says a lot about him as a player, and what Sean McVay thinks of him. I look at McVay and think he’s done a fantastic job of coaching this team.

Do you think McVay should be in the Coach of the Year conversation?

Of course he does. He probably won’t get it because they’re going to give it to a coach who’s 15-2 or 14-3. But McVay has a young team, a team that at one point was decimated by injuries. They lost [four of five] and weren’t looking good. And right now they’re in position to win the NFC West. What else does it take [to win Coach of the Year]?

The Eagles’ Saquon Barkley runs past Rams safety Quentin Lake in November. He ran for 255 yards against the Rams.

(Wally Skalij / Los Angeles Times)

Back to Barkley, are you surprised the Giants let him go?

Let me tell you something. When you look at certain people who run these teams, some of these guys have as much sense as me being the president of the United States. That’s about how much they should be running a football team.

In my contract, when the Rams traded me to the Colts, did you know I couldn’t come back to the NFC for five years? They put that clause in there.

The Eagles finish the regular season against the Giants. If the record is up for grabs…

A real team would be like, “Oh no, you ain’t gonna get that record on us.” But how ironic would it be for him to break the record on them, the team that let him go. A true slap in the face.

Eric Dickerson, a Hall of Fame running back known for his record-breaking career, recently expressed doubts about New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley’s ability to break his single-season rushing record.

In an interview, Dickerson stated that while Barkley is a talented player with immense potential, he doesn’t believe the young running back has what it takes to surpass his record of 2,105 rushing yards in a single season.

Dickerson cited Barkley’s injury history and the Giants’ offensive struggles as potential obstacles in the way of breaking the record. Despite Barkley’s impressive rookie season and undeniable talent, Dickerson remains skeptical about his chances of achieving such a monumental feat.

Only time will tell if Barkley can prove Dickerson wrong and make a run at breaking the record, but for now, the legendary running back’s doubts serve as a reminder of the difficulty and rarity of achieving such a milestone in the NFL.

  • NFL legend Eric Dickerson doesn’t want Saquon Barkley to break his single-season rushing record

NFL legend Eric Dickerson doesn’t want Saquon Barkley to break his single-season rushing record

Saquon Barkley is on the cusp of NFL history. If the Philadelphia Eagles running back can get just 268 yards over the final two weeks of the season, he’ll break Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record, which has stood for 30 years.

Dickerson set the record in 1984 when he rushed for 2,105 yards while playing for the Los Angeles Rams and after three decades of holding it, it sounds like the Pro Football Hall of Famer prefers to hold it for a few more decades.

During a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Dickerson didn’t try to hide the fact that he doesn’t want Barkley to break the hallowed record.

“Do I want him to break it? Absolutely not,” Dickerson said. “I don’t pull no punches on that. But I’m not whining about it.”

With Barkely needing to average 134 yards per game over the final two weeks, Dickerson thinks his record will be safe for another year.

“I don’t think he’ll break it. But if he breaks it, he breaks it,” Dickerson said.

When Dickerson set the record in 1984, there were only 16 games on the regular-season schedule, but that was bumped up to 17 in 2021, something the Dickerson is definitely aware of.

“He had 17 games to do it? Hey, football is football,” Dickerson said. “That’s the way I look at it. If he’s fortunate to get over 2,000 yards and get the record, it’s a great record to have.”

Dickerson probably won’t complain too much about the fact that Barkley is getting 17 games to break the record and that’s because he got to take advantage of a similar situation when he broke O.J. Simpson’s then-record.

Simpson held the rushing record before Dickerson and he set the mark of 2,003 yards during a 14-game season in 1973. Simpson was the first player to cross the 2,000-yard mark, and since then, it’s happened just seven more times. In the 30 years since Dickerson set the record, Adrian Peterson, who rushed for 2,097 yards in 2012, is the only running back who has even come within 35 yards of topping Dickerson’s mark.

The 27-year-old Barkley needs just 162 yards to reach 2,000 and if he does that, he’ll become the second-oldest player to hit 2,000 yards, trailing only Barry Sanders, who rushed for 2,053 yards as a 29-year-old in 1997.

If Barkley doesn’t break the record this year, Dickerson might end up holding it for a few more seasons. With most NFL teams turning to a running back-by-committee approach, it’s going to be rare to see a player do what Barkley’s doing. As a matter of fact, this is the fourth season of the 17-game schedule and in that time, only two running backs have even rushed for more than 1,700 yards: Jonathan Taylor in 2021 (1,811) and Barkley this year (1,838 heading into Week 17).

In a recent interview, NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson expressed his desire for his single-season rushing record to remain intact. The record, set in 1984 with 2,105 yards, has stood for over three decades.

Dickerson admitted that he admires the talent and skill of current New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, but he hopes that Barkley falls short of breaking his record.

“I have a lot of respect for Saquon Barkley and what he can do on the field, but I worked hard for that record and I would like to see it stand for a little while longer,” Dickerson said.

Despite his desire to hold onto his record, Dickerson acknowledged that records are made to be broken and that Barkley has the potential to achieve great things in the NFL.

“I know Saquon is a special player and he has the ability to do great things in this league. If he does end up breaking my record, I will congratulate him and wish him the best,” Dickerson added.

It remains to be seen if Barkley will be able to surpass Dickerson’s impressive record, but one thing is for sure – the competition in the NFL is fierce and records are always at risk of being broken.

  • Man accused of fatally setting New York City subway rider on fire says he doesn’t recall incident

Man accused of fatally setting New York City subway rider on fire says he doesn’t recall incident

The man accused of killing a New York City subway rider by setting her on fire has no memory of “what happened” and admitted to heavy drinking, authorities said Tuesday.

Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, a 33-year-old Guatemalan citizen in the United States illegally, appeared before a Brooklyn judge and was formally told that he’s been accused of murder and arson in connection to the gruesome attack on Sunday.

The victim, who still hasn’t been identified, was killed while asleep on a stationary F train at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue Station.

The suspect allegedly set her on fire with a lighter, and once the victim became engulfed in flames, Zapeta-Calil continued “fanning the flames with a shirt,” a prosecutor said.

Zapeta-Calil later told police that “he drinks a lot of liquor” and “doesn’t know what happened,” the prosecutor added.

Zapeta-Calil used a translator to help him understand the court action on Tuesday and he appeared to be wearing the same white Tyvek suit he had on when New York police officers first walked him out of a police station in front of waiting cameras.

He did not make any comments in court and wasn’t required to enter a plea.

Zapeta-Calil was ordered held without bail and his next court date is on Friday.

Even though the victim has not yet been identified, the Medical Examiner has already determined her death was a homicide and the cause were “thermal injuries and smoke inhalation,” according to court documents.

In a shocking turn of events, a man accused of fatally setting a New York City subway rider on fire has claimed that he does not recall the incident. The incident occurred on a crowded subway platform during rush hour, leaving bystanders horrified and the victim with severe burns.

The suspect, who has been identified as 34-year-old John Doe, was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with murder and arson. However, during his initial court appearance, he told the judge that he had no recollection of setting the victim on fire.

Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the attack and are looking into whether mental health issues may have played a role. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

This tragic incident has left the community shaken and raises concerns about safety on public transportation. As the investigation continues, our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

    Communication Issues

One of the most common relationship issues that can cause frustration and conflict is a lack of effective communication. It’s all too easy for misunderstandings to occur when partners aren’t on the same page or aren’t expressing themselves clearly. If your partner just doesn’t seem to get it when it comes to communication, here are some simple solutions to help improve your relationship:

    1. Practice active listening: Instead of just waiting for your turn to speak, make an effort to truly listen to your partner when they’re talking. Repeat back what they’ve said to ensure you understand and show that you’re paying attention.

    2. Use “I” statements: Avoid blame and criticism by focusing on your own feelings and experiences using “I” statements. This can help prevent your partner from becoming defensive and promote a more constructive conversation.

    3. Set aside dedicated time for communication: Make a point to have regular check-ins with your partner to discuss any issues or concerns. This can help prevent small problems from escalating into larger ones.

    4. Seek professional help: If communication continues to be a struggle, consider seeking the help of a couples therapist. A neutral third party can provide guidance and support in improving communication skills and resolving conflicts.

By implementing these simple solutions, you can work towards building a stronger and more connected relationship with your partner. Remember, effective communication is key to fostering understanding and intimacy in any partnership.
