  • President Trump continues call for ‘state-of-the-art’ Iron Dome missile system

    President Donald Trump said that the construction of an Iron Dome-like shield for the U.S. is a top priority for him on Monday, calling for “immediate” work to be done on the project before signing an executive order.

    Trump made the remarks at a Republican dinner in Florida on Monday, while commending his recently-confirmed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. After landing at Joint Base Andrews that night, he confirmed that he signed an executive order regarding the Iron Dome on the plane.

    “Pete Hegseth, who’s going to be great, by the way… I think he’s going to be fantastic,” Trump said at the event. “I know him very well. I think he’s going to be fantastic.”

    “He’s what we need, to immediately begin the construction of a state-of-the-art Iron Dome missile defense shield, which will be able to protect Americans.”

    The president added that Americans “protect other countries, but we don’t protect ourselves.” Trump also referenced that President Ronald Reagan was interested in the system during the Cold War, but Americans “didn’t have the technology.”

    “And now we have phenomenal technology. You see that with Israel,” Trump continued. “So I think the United States is entitled to that. And everything will be made right here in the USA 100%.”

    “We’re going next to ensure that we have the most lethal fighting force in the world.”

    On Monday, the State Department said that a future Iron Dome is one of Hegseth’s many priorities.

    “Other areas the secretary will study include reinstating troops that were pushed out because of COVID-19 vaccination mandates and developing an Iron Dome anti-missile system for the United States,” the statement read.

    This wasn’t Trump’s first mention of an Iron Dome for the U.S. At the Commander-In-Chief inaugural ball on Jan. 20., Trump said that the project was on his radar.

    “We’re also doing the Iron Dome all made in America,” Trump said. “We’re going to have a nice Iron Dome.”

    The Republican leader also referenced the plan on the campaign trail in 2024.

    “By next term we will build a great Iron Dome over our country,” Trump said during a West Palm Beach event on June 14. “We deserve a dome…it’s a missile defense shield, and it’ll all be made in America.”

    President Trump continues to push for the implementation of a ‘state-of-the-art’ Iron Dome missile defense system in the United States. The President has repeatedly emphasized the need for enhanced missile defense capabilities to protect the country from potential threats.

    In a recent speech, President Trump highlighted the success of Israel’s Iron Dome system in intercepting incoming missiles and protecting its citizens. He praised the technology as a crucial tool in safeguarding national security and vowed to prioritize the development of a similar system in the US.

    The President’s call for a ‘state-of-the-art’ Iron Dome missile defense system has sparked debate among lawmakers and defense experts. Some argue that such a system would greatly enhance the country’s defense capabilities, while others raise concerns about the high cost and feasibility of implementing such advanced technology.

    As discussions continue, President Trump remains steadfast in his commitment to strengthening the nation’s missile defense capabilities. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • Trump announces four new executive orders, including to build ‘Iron Dome’ | Donald Trump News

    United States President Donald Trump has announced he would sign an executive order calling for the construction of an “Iron Dome” missile defence programme.

    On Monday, Trump addressed a retreat for Republican lawmakers at his south Florida golf resort, the Trump National Doral Miami, where he pledged to bolster US military assets with executive action later in the evening.

    “We have to have a strong, strong defence,” Trump said from the podium. “And in a little while, I’ll be signing four new executive orders.”

    The first, he explained, was to “immediately begin the construction of a state-of-the-art Iron Dome missile defence shield, which will be able to protect Americans”.

    Two more orders, he added, would be aimed at removing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and getting “transgender ideology the hell out of our military”.

    A fourth order would also reinstate service members who were discharged for refusing to comply with mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic. About 8,000 members had been discharged for that reason between August 2021 to January 2023.

    Trump framed the actions as necessary to ensure the US has “the most lethal fighting force in the world”.

    A flood of executive orders

    Monday’s announcement marked yet another ripple in a tsunami of executive actions Trump has undertaken since returning to the White House on January 20.

    According to officials, Trump signed a record number of executive actions on his first day in office, amounting to a total of 42 orders, memorandums and proclamations.

    Many of those initial orders pertained to immigration and social issues. For instance, he made a move to end birthright citizenship, a constitutionally protected right that endows anyone born in the US with citizenship.

    But some of his early executive orders overlapped with those unveiled on Monday.

    He called for the end of government DEI programmes, which he accused of perpetrating “illegal and immoral discrimination”. And he signed another order declaring that male and female gender identities are “not changeable”.

    But the latest raft of orders deals directly with the makeup of the US military and its strategic priority.

    Monday’s orders, for example, echo a “transgender military ban” that Trump pursued in 2017, during his first term in office. That ban was later reversed by President Joe Biden in 2021.

    An estimated 8,000 service members are transgender – though more may fear to identify themselves publicly.

    The executive orders Trump unveiled also coincided with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s first day at the Pentagon.

    Hegseth, a veteran and former Fox News host, has previously railed against what he described as a “woke” ideology overtaking the military and questioned whether women should serve in combat roles.

    As head of the Pentagon, Hegseth has pledged to oversee a vast overhaul of the military leadership and restore a “warrior culture” in the armed forces.

    Hesgeth overcame allegations of sexual abuse and alcoholism to be confirmed to his post by 50 Republican senators on Friday.

    Three Republicans, including former Senate party leader Mitch McConnell, opposed his nomination.

    Building an ‘Iron Dome’

    Trump’s executive order to build an “Iron Dome” fulfils a pledge the Republican leader made on the campaign trail.

    The Iron Dome refers to a US-funded air defence system in Israel that detects and intercepts incoming rockets.

    Trump had repeatedly described his desire to top Israel’s Iron Dome system in his campaign for re-election in 2024.

    In an August broadcast on the social media platform X, he told billionaire Elon Musk he planned to build “the best Iron Dome in the world”.

    And in July, he added the Iron Dome proposal to the Republican Party’s official platform.

    But military experts have repeatedly questioned whether such a system is necessary, or even feasible, for the US.

    The system used in Israel currently only protects against relatively low-power rockets and mortars. And Israel itself is only about the size of New Jersey, one of the US’s smaller states.

    Experts say creating a similar system across the vast US mainland would be cost-prohibitive, not to mention possibly ineffective, given the advanced firepower of potential adversaries like Russia and China.

    Observers also point out that the US already has missile defence programmes in place, including the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense system and the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) programme.

    The future of Trump’s Iron Dome project is also unclear, as it is all but assured to require funding appropriated by Congress.

    “You know, we protect other countries, but we don’t protect ourselves,” Trump said on Monday.

    “Now we have phenomenal technology. You see that with Israel where, out of 319 rockets, they knock down just about every one of them. So I think the United States is entitled to that.”

    In a surprise move, former President Donald Trump announced four new executive orders, one of which includes the construction of an ‘Iron Dome’ defense system. The Iron Dome, a missile defense system developed by Israel, is designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of 4-70 kilometers away.

    Trump’s decision to implement an Iron Dome defense system in the United States comes as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East and other parts of the world. The former President cited the need for increased security measures to protect American citizens from potential threats, both foreign and domestic.

    In addition to the Iron Dome order, Trump also signed executive orders related to immigration, healthcare, and national security. The specifics of these orders have yet to be disclosed, but they are expected to be met with controversy and resistance from political opponents.

    Critics of the former President have already begun to voice their concerns over the cost and feasibility of implementing an Iron Dome defense system in the United States. However, Trump remains steadfast in his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the American people.

    As more details emerge about these executive orders, it is clear that Trump’s influence on American politics and policy is far from over. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • The Iron Dome for America – The White House

    By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including my authority as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, it is hereby ordered:
    Section 1.  Purpose.  The threat of attack by ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles, and other advanced aerial attacks, remains the most catastrophic threat facing the United States.
    President Ronald Reagan endeavored to build an effective defense against nuclear attacks, and while this program resulted in many technological advances, it was canceled before its goal could be realized.  And since the United States withdrew from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty in 2002 and initiated development of limited homeland missile defense, official United States homeland missile defense policy has remained only to stay ahead of rogue-nation threats and accidental or unauthorized missile launches.
    Over the past 40 years, rather than lessening, the threat from next-generation strategic weapons has become more intense and complex with the development by peer and near-peer adversaries of next-generation delivery systems and their own homeland integrated air and missile defense capabilities.
    Sec. 2.  Policy.  To further the goal of peace through strength, it is the policy of the United States that:
         (a)  The United States will provide for the common defense of its citizens and the Nation by deploying and maintaining a next-generation missile defense shield;
         (b)  The United States will deter — and defend its citizens and critical infrastructure against — any foreign aerial attack on the Homeland; and
         (c)  The United States will guarantee its secure second-strike capability.
    Sec. 3.  Implementation.  Within 60 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of Defense shall:
         (a)  Submit to the President a reference architecture, capabilities-based requirements, and an implementation plan for the next-generation missile defense shield.  The architecture shall include, at a minimum, plans for:
    (i)     Defense of the United States against ballistic, hypersonic, advanced cruise missiles, and other next-generation aerial attacks from peer, near-peer, and rogue adversaries;
    (ii)    Acceleration of the deployment of the Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor layer;
    (iii)   Development and deployment of proliferated space-based interceptors capable of boost-phase intercept;
    (iv)    Deployment of underlayer and terminal-phase intercept capabilities postured to defeat a countervalue attack;
    (v)     Development and deployment of a custody layer of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture;
    (vi)    Development and deployment of capabilities to defeat missile attacks prior to launch and in the boost phase;
    (vii)   Development and deployment of a secure supply chain for all components with next-generation security and resilience features; and
    (viii)  Development and deployment of non-kinetic capabilities to augment the kinetic defeat of ballistic, hypersonic, advanced cruise missiles, and other next-generation aerial attacks;
         (b)  Review relevant authorities and organization of the Department of Defense to develop and deploy capabilities at the necessary speed to implement this directive;
         (c)  Jointly with the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, submit to the President a plan to fund this directive, allowing sufficient time for consideration by the President before finalization of the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget; and
         (d)  In cooperation with United States Strategic Command and United States Northern Command, submit to the President:
    (i)   An updated assessment of the strategic missile threat to the Homeland; and
    (ii)  A prioritized set of locations to progressively defend against a countervalue attack by nuclear adversaries.
    Sec. 4.  Allied and Theater Missile Defense Review.  The United States continues to cooperate on missile defense with its allies and partners to aid in the defense of ally populations and troops and of forward-deployed United States troops.  Following the submission to the President of the next-generation missile defense reference architecture under section 3(a) of this order, the Secretary of Defense shall direct a review of theater missile defense posture and initiatives to identify ways in which the United States and its allies and partners can:
         (a)  Increase bilateral and multilateral cooperation on missile defense technology development, capabilities, and operations;
         (b)  Improve theater missile defenses of forward-deployed United States troops and allied territories, troops, and populations; and
         (c)  Increase and accelerate the provision of United States missile defense capabilities to allies and partners.
    Sec. 5.  General Provisions.  (a)  Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

    1. the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or
    2. the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

         (b)  This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.
         (c)  This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

    THE WHITE HOUSE,

        January 27, 2025.

    The Iron Dome for America – The White House

    In recent years, the Iron Dome missile defense system has proven to be a crucial tool in protecting the citizens of Israel from incoming rocket attacks. Now, there are calls for a similar system to be implemented in the United States, with the White House at the forefront of these discussions.

    The Iron Dome is a mobile air defense system that uses interceptor missiles to shoot down incoming rockets and mortar shells. It has been credited with saving countless lives and preventing widespread destruction in Israel, particularly during conflicts with Hamas in Gaza.

    With the increasing threat of missile attacks from rogue states and terrorist groups, many believe that the United States needs its own version of the Iron Dome to protect its citizens and infrastructure. The White House has expressed interest in exploring the possibility of implementing such a system, with discussions currently underway on how best to proceed.

    While the cost of implementing an Iron Dome system in the United States would be significant, the potential benefits in terms of saving lives and preventing damage to critical infrastructure cannot be overstated. As threats from abroad continue to evolve and multiply, it is crucial that the United States takes proactive steps to defend itself and its citizens.

    The White House is committed to exploring all options for enhancing the country’s defense capabilities, and the potential implementation of an Iron Dome system is just one of many avenues being explored. As discussions continue, the safety and security of the American people remain the top priority for the administration.

    Stay tuned for updates on the potential implementation of an Iron Dome system in the United States, as the White House continues to work towards ensuring the safety and security of all Americans.

  • Clippers show Lakers what they aren’t in first Intuit Dome matchup

    The instrumental track behind one of Los Angeles’ biggest songs played over the Intuit Dome’s best-that-money-can-buy sound system late in the opening half — the perfect tune for what had been unfolding.

    Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” wasn’t a Lakers diss track, and he didn’t even have to rap the chorus for the point to be driven home.

    All the things that have made the Clippers one of the surprises of the NBA season threaten to make the Lakers a disappointment, hurdles the team has yet to conquer and ones that, barring roster reconstruction, just might never happen.

    Defensive pressure all over the court? Yeah, the Lakers aren’t like that.

    Consistent toughness and size? The Clippers have it.

    Clear offensive identity and buy in? Well, the Lakers aren’t like that either.

    “I consider them a great team,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said.

    The scoreboard confirmed the obvious for most of the Clippers’ 116-102 win Sunday night in the first meeting between the teams this season.

    While the Lakers might have higher expectations because of their stars and because they’ve already been active on the trade market, the Clippers played Sunday like a team fully confident in itself, its identity and its plans for the future.

    Sunday, their best basketball came when the game was already probably decided. Late in the third, while a “Let’s go Lakers” chant broke out in a primarily pro-Clippers crowd, the Lakers made a push, cutting a 26-point lead down to 11. But LeBron James, one of the instigators during that stretch, missed three point-blank looks at the basket with the Lakers needing to be perfect to have a real chance at a comeback.

    They were not.

    James led the Lakers (22-18) with 25 points and 11 assists and Rui Hachimura scored 19, but no other Lakers player made a sizable offensive influence, including Anthony Davis, who scored 16 points on five-for-14 shooting and Austin Reaves, who had 14, but could only create six shots. He left the game hobbling after appearing to injure his knee in the fourth quarter fighting for a rebound.

    Reaves said he expected to be OK.

    The Lakers’ weaknesses are evident. They tried to keep Ivica Zubac from dominating the paint, but the former Laker took advantage of the Lakers’ lack of size, finishing with 21 points and 19 rebounds. They need playmaking help for Reaves and James, the two primary ballhandlers each accounting for five of the Lakers’ 17 turnovers.

    And they need more defensive toughness to help limit a team like the Clippers, who drive so much offense from the perimeter, to tougher nights than 52.8% shooting.

    Clippers guard James Harden, right, drives against Lakers guard Max Christie during the first half Sunday.

    (Mark J. Terrill / Associated Press)

    “They capitalized off our turnovers and mistakes defensively,” James said. “It’s a great team. Very well coached. Hall of Famers, great complementary players, Norm Powell having a great season, Big Zu, big time…

    “You know, when you’re playing against a great team, you gotta limit your mistakes, offensively and defensively. ‘Cause they make you pay, and I think they did that tonight.”

    The Clippers, people around the league almost unanimously expect, will likely be quiet at the trade deadline (despite having a number of players coveted by NBA teams). Their big move is more straightforward — reintegrating Kawhi Leonard as they try to keep him available for the rest of the season.

    Leonard played 24 minutes and 17 seconds — a season high — as he continues to work back from the knee issues that have bothered him much of his time with the Clippers. He scored 19 points on only 13 shots, dishing out three of his four assists early in the first quarter to help the Clippers set the tone.

    “We knew coming into the season that we can be great defensively and that’s going to give us a chance every night. That’s what we have been doing all year along,” Zubac said. “Kawhi is getting back. He’s being aggressive. He’s looking good and when the minutes restrictions goes away, we’re going to be a tough team to beat.”

    Powell finished with 22 points and James Harden had 21 points and 12 assists for the Clippers (24-17).

    The schedule will probably lessen the luster from the Clippers, who have won their last three games by an average of 34 points. They play five times this week, their schedule moved around as a result of wildfire postponements.

    The Lakers have two more chances at home before beginning their annual Grammy road trip, hosting Washington on Tuesday before another rivalry game Thursday against the Celtics.

    “I think we are growing and we all know that during the growth process you have some bumps and that’s OK,” Redick said. “That’s OK. … We’re together and we’re connected certainly more times than not. And we’ll continue to grow and build. But there was some good stuff tonight.”

    The Lakers aren’t where they want to be, at least not when it comes to any form of a consistent identity. Playing against a team that knows its identity like the Clippers, the differences become obvious.

    In the highly anticipated first matchup between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers at the brand new Intuit Dome, the Clippers came out on top, showing the Lakers what they aren’t – a dominant force on the court.

    Despite the Lakers boasting a star-studded lineup with LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook, it was the Clippers who outplayed and outclassed their crosstown rivals. Led by their own dynamic duo of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers showcased their depth and versatility, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference.

    The Intuit Dome was electric as the Clippers put on a show for their fans, executing on both ends of the floor and stifling the Lakers’ offense. The victory not only solidified the Clippers’ status as a top contender in the NBA but also served as a statement to the Lakers that they have work to do if they want to compete at the same level.

    As the season progresses, both teams will continue to jockey for position in the competitive Western Conference, but for now, the Clippers have shown the Lakers what they aren’t – the better team in their own backyard.
