Why Jill Biden Wore a Purple Dress at Donald Trump’s Inauguration 2025

First lady Jill Biden’s outfit for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration Monday was a nod to bipartisan unity. Joining her husband, President Joe Biden, to welcome the incoming administration, Dr. Biden opted for a monochromatic Ralph Lauren ensemble in a bold purple shade. The color often symbolizes a bipartisan union in American politics.

“[Purple] represents a blending and coming together of the red and blue, which are the two colors that represent each of the major political parties in the U.S.,” Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, told WWD during Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021.

Dr. Biden’s look included a dress and tailored double-breasted coat cinched at the waist, matching gloves and pointed-toe pumps. The first lady, who has consistently championed American designers throughout her time in the public eye, stayed true to her style roots with the Ralph Lauren creation. Her choice of the iconic American brand reflects her history of showcasing fashion as a form of diplomacy.

President Biden also coordinated with his wife for the occasion, complementing her ensemble with a Ralph Lauren overcoat and a purple tie that echoed her monochromatic look.

This isn’t the first time Dr. Biden has incorporated unity into her wardrobe for a major political milestone. For President Biden’s inauguration in 2021, she selected a Markarian ocean blue tweed coat and dress, symbolizing trust and stability and a Gabriela Hearst evening gown embroidered with the state and territory flowers of the U.S.

Donald Trump’s second inauguration as the 47th President of the United States took place on Monday in Washington, D.C. Following tradition, the day began with a worship service at St. John’s Episcopal Church and a White House meeting between incoming and outgoing presidents. The mandated swearing-in ceremony will happen on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol. Carrie Underwood is set to perform “America the Beautiful” at the event. Following the inauguration, guests and supporters of the President are expected to attend three evening celebrations, including the Commander in Chief Ball, Liberty Inaugural Ball and Starlight Ball.

As the world watched the historic inauguration of President Donald Trump in 2025, all eyes were on First Lady Jill Biden and her choice of outfit for the momentous occasion. Many were quick to notice that she opted to wear a stunning purple dress, sparking curiosity and speculation about the significance behind her color choice.

Purple has long been associated with bipartisanship and unity, as it is a blend of red and blue, the colors traditionally representing the Republican and Democratic parties, respectively. Jill Biden’s decision to wear purple at such a politically charged event could be seen as a symbol of her commitment to bridging the divide between the two parties and fostering a sense of unity in the country.

Additionally, purple is often associated with royalty, power, and wisdom, qualities that are befitting of a First Lady. By choosing to wear a regal shade of purple, Jill Biden may have been sending a message of strength, grace, and leadership as she stepped into her role as the First Lady of the United States.

Overall, Jill Biden’s choice to wear a purple dress at Donald Trump’s inauguration in 2025 likely had multiple layers of meaning, reflecting her desire to promote unity, showcase her strength and leadership, and make a subtle statement about the importance of bipartisanship in today’s political climate.

Donald Trump’s granddaughter Kai reveals her true feelings about his inauguration: ‘I’m stressed’

As Donald Trump prepares to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, his family are also preparing to be thrust back into the spotlight – and not all of them are ready.

Donald’s granddaughter, Kai, took to her YouTube channel to share her feelings about his inauguration ahead of the event, revealing that she is “stressed” as the day draws nearer.

“I don’t normally get nervous for certain things, but the inauguration…I’m not nervous, I’m just like, excited,” she told her audience. “I have the butterflies in my stomach; like, I’m looking forward to it.”

One thing that is not ready is her dress for the day: “I’m a little stressed that I didn’t pick up an outfit in advance, and now I’m like, ‘Oh! Last minute, gotta go to the dry cleaners,'” she said.

“But besides that, I’m honestly not that stressed,” Kai finished.

“He calls me during the school day to ask how my me all about my golf game,” she said. “But then I have to remind him that I’m in school, and I’ll have to call him back later.”

Kai is an avid golfer and will attend the University of Miami after high school to pursue the sport.

She is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife, Vanessa Pergolizzi; the pair were married from 2005 until 2018. They share kids Kai, Donald III, Tristan, Spencer and Chloe.

Kai launched her YouTube channel in November, just before Donald won the election after pulling ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris

“I’m really happy he won, obviously,” she shared in Tuesday’s video. “For America and I think for our family, I think it’s just so important that he won.”

She continued: “I think these next four years are going to be the best four years America has had in a very long time.”

“I’m so happy for him on the inside. I’m so happy that our family gets to do this again.”

While current and past presidents and their wives – including Bill and Hillary Clinton, George W. and Laura Bush, and Joe and Jill Biden – will attend the inauguration event, Barack Obama will arrive on his own after it was announced that his wife Michelle would be absent.

Tech billionaires Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos will attend the event, while country star Carrie Underwood will perform alongside the Village People.

Carrie announced her performance in a statement on Monday, sharing that she was honored to “be a small part of this historic event”.

“I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future, she added.

In a recent interview, Donald Trump’s granddaughter Kai opened up about her true feelings regarding his upcoming inauguration. The 13-year-old admitted, “I’m stressed.”

Kai, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife Vanessa, expressed her concerns about her grandfather’s presidency and the impact it will have on her family. She revealed that she worries about the negative attention they may receive and the pressure that comes with being a part of such a high-profile family.

Despite her reservations, Kai also expressed her support for her grandfather and his policies. She stated, “I believe in him and I know that he will do what is best for our country. But it’s still a lot to handle at such a young age.”

It is clear that Kai’s feelings about the upcoming inauguration are complex and mixed. Like many young people, she is grappling with the weight of her family’s public image and the uncertainties that come with such a significant political event.

Jill Biden wears bipartisan purple outfit at Donald Trump’s inauguration

First lady Jill Biden telegraphed political unity with her outfit for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration Monday.

Dressed in a Ralph Lauren coat, gloves and pumps in a vibrant shade of bipartisan violet — blending the blue linked with the Democratic party and the red associated with Republicans — Dr. Biden joined her husband, President Joe Biden, at Monday’s swearing-in, in keeping with political tradition.

During her four years as first lady — and her eight as second lady, when her spouse served as vice president alongside POTUS Barack Obama — the esteemed educator repped American fashion in a major way, wearing looks from Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang and her personal favorite, Ralph.

For President Biden’s inauguration in 2021, she selected an ocean blue tweed coat and matching dress by Markarian, a label designed and produced in New York City; the color was chosen to “signify trust, confidence, and stability,” per the brand’s press release.

COVID-19 precautions meant that there was no inaugural ball, but Dr. Biden appeared during that evening’s “Celebrating America” concert special wearing an ivory coat and dress by sustainability-focused Latin American designer Gabriela Hearst, both embroidered with the federal flowers from every US state and territory.

Other sartorial highlights include a statement-making “Vote” dress by Christian Siriano, which she wore last June at President Biden’s post-debate rally in Raleigh, NC, and the royal blue sequined Sergio Hudson gown she chose for a White House state dinner honoring Kenyan President William Ruto last May.

Dr. Biden even made a surprise appearance at Ralph Lauren’s Hamptons runway show during New York Fashion Week in September, bringing along Hunter Biden’s daughter Finnegan as her date.

“When I became first lady, I knew that people would start to care a lot more about what I wore,” the FLOTUS said at a 2023 Smithsonian ceremony, during which she donated her inaugural ensembles to the museum.

“And there have been times when I welcome that spotlight, because I knew that my clothes could help me say something important.”

On January 20th, 2021, Jill Biden made a powerful statement in a bipartisan purple outfit at Donald Trump’s inauguration. The color purple is often seen as a symbol of unity, blending the red and blue of the two major political parties in the United States.

Dr. Biden’s choice to wear this color sends a clear message of coming together and finding common ground, regardless of political differences. Her outfit consisted of a purple dress and matching coat, accessorized with a pearl necklace and black heels.

As the new First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden’s fashion choices are sure to be closely watched and analyzed. This particular ensemble has already sparked conversations about the importance of unity and bipartisanship in today’s divisive political climate.

In a time when the country is deeply divided, Dr. Biden’s purple outfit serves as a reminder that we are all Americans first and foremost, and that we must work together to overcome our differences and build a better future for all. Let’s hope that her message of unity resonates with all Americans as we move forward into a new era.

Donald Trump’s Granddaughter Kai Reveals Glimpse Inside Her Life in Florida—as She Promises To Share Behind-the-Scenes Tour From Inside White House

Donald Trump‘s 17-year-old granddaughter Kai has opened up about how his inauguration will change her life “forever,” hinting that she now plans to split her time between her home in Florida and Washington, DC, so she can continue to help advise her grandfather to keep his finger on the pulse of America’s youth.

The teenager, who is the daughter of Don Jr. and his former wife, Vanessa, skyrocketed to fame when she made a speech in support of her grandfather during the Republican National Convention in July 2024. In the months since, she has become a prominent figure within the Trump family, making regular appearances alongside the president-elect at a number of his official engagements.

Now, with Trump set to officially begin his second term during his inauguration on Monday, Kai has spoken out about how she believes her life will change as she continues to balance her education with her desire to aid her grandfather in the White House.

Kai, who is an avid golfer, lives with her parents in Jupiter, near Trump’s infamous Mar-a-Lago resort as she finishes high school, while also continuing her intensive golf training. The teenager has already committed to the University of Miami, where she will continue to play golf for the college’s team.

But before then, Kai plans to devote as much time as she can to supporting her grandfather, explaining in a recent video posted to her YouTube channel that she believes his presidency will be the “best four years America has ever had.”

The 17-year-old golfer has become a global sensation ever since she managed to steal the spotlight at the Republican Convention, with her fame soaring to new heights after her grandfather pulled off an astonishing red sweep of the nation.

In a YouTube video titled “My life is about to change forever,” Kai admitted that she is “looking forward” to being more involved in her grandfather’s second term, before promising to give her viewers a behind-the-scenes look inside the White House while she’s there for the inauguration.

Though it is currently unclear which of Trump’s family members will be in attendance on his big day, it’s thought that all of his children will be present, as well as several grandkids, including Kai, who is the oldest of Don Jr.’s five kids.

And while Kai spent a good amount of time at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. during her grandfather’s first term, she notes that this time around will be different, not least because she is older and has taken a more active role in his political career over the past year.

“I’m really happy he won, obviously,” she says in the clip, before later adding: “For America and I think for our family, I think it’s just so important that he won. I think these next four years are going to be the best four years America has had in a very long time. I’m so happy for him on the inside. I’m so happy that our family gets to do this again.”

However, the pressure of traveling to DC for such a major political event was not without its stresses, she conceded, explaining that trying to balance her obligations as a student and her training on the golf course with her preparations for the big day was somewhat difficult.

Filming herself behind the wheel of her car, Kai confesses that she left school partway through the day because she needed to tackle her to-do list for the inauguration—beginning with finding an outfit.

“I’m a little stressed that I didn’t pick up an outfit in advance, and now I’m like, ‘Oh! Last minute, gotta go to the dry cleaners,’” she said.

Kai will join some of the most high-profile and powerful people in the world at the event, which will see former presidents in attendance, including Barack ObamaBill Clinton, and George W. Bush, as well as celebrities. Joining their husbands will be Laura Bush and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. However, Michelle Obama will not be present, her spokesperson confirmed ahead of the big day.

In a YouTube video captioned, "My life is about to change forever," Kai admitted that she is 'looking forward' to being more involved in her grandfather's second term and that she would be giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the White House on the special day.

Though the idea of traveling to the White House and attending the event might be daunting to some, Kai notes that she feels nothing but excitement—even detailing her plans to film a vlog that she can later share with her followers to offer them a glimpse of what the ceremony is really like.

“I can’t give too much detail, but we’re going to try and capture as many moments as we can for my channel,” she says in her latest video. “It’s going to be really, really cool and an awesome experience. I’m so happy I get to film it and look back on it in the future, especially as I get older. I can look at it as a reference.

“Maybe we’ll get a little tour of the White House, so if you guys want to see that, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Kai has certainly had her fair share of experiences with iconic properties—not least her grandfather’s enormous Mar-a-Lago estate, where she regularly gets to play golf.

Mar-a-Lago was originally built between 1924 and 1927 on an area of land that was once nothing more than a swamp. It was commissioned by cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post.

Today, the property boasts 58 bedrooms, 33 bathrooms, and three bomb shelters. Other very lavish amenities include an 1,800-square-foot living room, a private theater, and a nine-hole golf course.

It was purchased by Trump in 1985 for just $10 million. He promptly set about renovating multiple areas, adding a putting green, a tennis court, a salon and health club, and a spa. He opened up areas of the estate to the public as a private club in 1995.

By comparison, the White House boasts 132 rooms, 16 of which are bedrooms and 35 of which are bathrooms. However, it also includes a dentist’s office, home theater, bowling alley, swimming pool, jogging track, and putting green, which Kai will no doubt put to use once her grandfather has settled back into the home.

Although it will be a change, Kai is sure to adjust to her new home, which boasts 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, dentist office, movie theatre, bowling alley, swimming pool, jogging track and putting green.

Although she is just 17, the 17-year-old has already revealed that she has verbally committed to attending the University of Miami. Kai revealed the news just mere months before her grandfather regained his seat in the White House.

As for Kai’s own home, she is understood to split her time between her parents, Don Jr. and Vanessa, who split in 2017 after 13 years of marriage. Soon after, Don Jr. began dating Kimberly Guilfoyle, who took an active role in Trump’s first term and continued to be a very vocal supporter of his policies even after he left the White House.

Much like the other Trump children, Don Jr. and Guilfoyle relocated to Florida after his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, purchasing a lavish $9.7 million mansion in Jupiter, which is just a short drive from Mar-a-Lago.

The fate of that property is currently unclear, however, after rumors emerged that the couple have split—and that Don Jr. has already moved on with socialite Bettina Anderson.

Intriguingly, news of Trump Jr.’s alleged new romance emerged at the same time that Guilfoyle was picked for a plum new role in her once-future-father-in-law’s administration: ambassador to Greece.

If Guilfoyle is confirmed, the position will require her to relocate overseas—leaving behind Trump Jr., their relationship, and the mansion they purchased together in March 2021.

The home—which property records indicate is in both of their names—boasts six bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. It sits on a 1.18-acre waterfront lot.

According to the original listing, the home underwent a “massive update” before it was purchased by the Trump family scion and his partner. They both have been incredibly active in the president-elect’s campaign and are expected to maintain key roles in his administration.

Michelle Obama won’t be at Donald Trump’s inauguration

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Former first lady Michelle Obama will skip the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, the second time in two weeks that she is not attending a gathering of former U.S. leaders and their spouses, but former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton will be there.

Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will join their husbands for the Jan. 20 swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol, representatives said.

“Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former first lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration,” said a statement from the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama that was shared with The Associated Press.

No explanation was given for why Michelle Obama was skipping Trump’s inauguration. She also did not attend former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral in Washington last week. Former Presidents Trump, Obama, Bush and Clinton and their spouses attended — except for her.

Bill Clinton will attend Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, a person familiar with the former president’s schedule confirmed for the AP. Hillary Clinton will also attend, a spokesperson said.

The Office of George W. Bush said he and former first lady Laura Bush are also attending.

Michelle Obama was the only spouse absent at last week’s funeral service at Washington National Cathedral, where her husband and Trump were seated next to each other and chatted and laughed like old friends despite the history of political animosity between the Democratic former president and the returning Republican.

The former first lady campaigned against Trump during his 2016, 2020 and 2024 presidential campaigns. In her 2018 memoir, she described her shock upon learning that Trump would succeed her husband, and she denounced Trump’s “birther” campaign, which questioned Barack Obama’s citizenship.

Michelle Obama campaigned last fall for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, delivering an emotional speech in Michigan in which she challenged men to vote for the vice president and argued that women’s lives would be at risk if Trump returned to the White House.

All three former presidents and their wives attended Trump’s first inauguration in 2017, including Hillary Clinton, after she lost the 2016 presidential election to Trump. Carter also attended.

As the Inauguration Day draws near, it has been confirmed that former First Lady Michelle Obama will not be attending Donald Trump’s inauguration. This news comes as no surprise, as Michelle has been vocal about her disapproval of Trump and his policies. Many are speculating about the reasons behind her decision, with some saying it’s a way for her to show solidarity with those who oppose Trump’s presidency. Regardless of the motive, Michelle’s absence will surely be felt on this historic day.

“These special events will honor the rich history and tradition of our great nation, the American people, and the promise our country holds for future generations,” Steve Witkoff and Kelly Loeffler, co-chairs of the committee, said in the statement.

Multiple performers will take the stage during the 60th presidential inauguration and the events surrounding Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.

The Village People will perform at the inauguration, lead singer Victor Willis announced on Facebook Jan. 13.

“We are announcing today that VILLAGE PEOPLE have accepted an invitation from President Elect Trump’s campaign to participate in inaugural activities, including at least one event with President Elect Trump,” Willis wrote, sharing a photo of the group. “We know this wont (sic) make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics.”

He continued, “Our song ‘Y.M.C.A.’ is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost. Therefore, we believe it’s now time to bring the country together with music which is why VILLAGE PEOPLE will be performing at various events as part of the 2025 Inauguration of Donald J. Trump.”

Trump often used “Y.M.C.A.” at events for his presidential campaigns. In December 2024, Willis shared on social media that he had received over 1,000 complaints about Trump’s usage of the song.

Willis said he previously asked Trump to stop using the song because it had become such a “nuisance” to him. He noted, however, that the campaign obtained a political use license to play the song.

Meet Donald Trump’s 10 Grandchildren: Names, Ages, Photos

  • President-elect Donald Trump has 10 — soon to be 11 —grandchildren.
  • They range in age from 5 to 17.
  • His second-youngest child, Tiffany, announced her pregnancy in late 2024.

The Trump family is gearing up for the inauguration on Monday, eight years after Donald Trump took office for the first time in January 2017.

A lot has changed for the Trump family in the past eight years: Back then, Donald Trump’s oldest son, Donald Jr., was still married to his now ex-wife, Vanessa, and the president had two fewer grandchildren.

Donald Trump has five children — Donald Jr., Ivanka, Eric, Tiffany, and Barron — and the three eldest each have multiple children of their own, while Tiffany Trump is set to give birth to her first child this year. Barron, who is just 18, started his freshman year of college in 2024.

Trump’s eldest grandchild, Kai, is already stepping into the spotlight. She spoke at the 2024 Republican National Convention and frequently posts photos on Instagram with her grandfather — she even posted that Elon Musk had “uncle status” on X. It stands to reason that as the rest of his grandchildren grow up, they might become more publicly outspoken, as well.

Here’s a guide to all 10 of Trump’s grandchildren.

  1. Kai Trump – Age 13
  2. Donald Trump III – Age 11
  3. Tristan Trump – Age 9
  4. Spencer Trump – Age 7
  5. Chloe Trump – Age 6
  6. Arabella Rose Kushner – Age 5
  7. Joseph Frederick Kushner – Age 4
  8. Theodore James Kushner – Age 2
  9. Eric "Luke" Trump – Age 3
  10. Carolina Dorothy Trump – Age 1
