  • Rep Byron Donalds says US will celebrate Trump deporting immigrants | News

Americans will thank Donald Trump for deportations after he is sworn in as the 47th president, Florida representative Byron Donalds said ahead of the inauguration.

The president-elect has promised severe limits on immigration from his first day in office.

Mr Trump, who will be sworn in for his second term at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., has also said that he will sign around 100 executive actions on his first day, with a focus on immigration.

Speaking to Fox News, Mr Donalds said: “When Americans see deportations or repatriations happen, they’re gonna be like thank you.

“They’re gonna be like, this is the stability that we were asking for. Daddy’s back.”

Rep Byron Donalds, a Republican congressman from Florida, recently made controversial comments regarding former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. In a statement to the press, Donalds asserted that the United States should celebrate Trump’s efforts to deport immigrants during his time in office.

Donalds, a staunch supporter of Trump, praised the former president for his tough stance on immigration and claimed that deporting immigrants was necessary to protect American jobs and national security. He also argued that Trump’s policies helped reduce crime rates and alleviate strain on the country’s resources.

However, Donalds’ comments have sparked backlash from critics who accuse him of promoting xenophobia and discrimination against immigrants. Many have pointed out that Trump’s immigration policies resulted in the separation of families and the mistreatment of asylum seekers, sparking a humanitarian crisis at the border.

As the debate over immigration reform continues to rage on in Congress, Donalds’ remarks serve as a reminder of the deep ideological divide on the issue. While some lawmakers advocate for stricter enforcement measures, others push for more compassionate and comprehensive immigration policies.

It remains to be seen how Donalds’ comments will impact the ongoing discussions on immigration reform and whether they will resonate with his constituents in Florida. For now, the debate over Trump’s legacy on immigration continues to unfold in the political arena.

  • First Son Attends Donald’s Second Inauguration 8 Years Later

Barron Trump has returned to the inaugural stage eight years later.

The youngest son of President-elect Donald Trump appeared in the United States Capitol rotunda between his paternal grandfather, Viktor Knavs, and his mother, Melania Trump, to watch his father be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States.

Barron has been through this process before — though last time his father took the presidential oath of office, he was only 10.

Barron was largely shielded from the political spotlight during and after his father’s first White House term — in contrast to his adult siblings, IvankaDon Jr.Eric and Tiffany, who have taken more active roles in supporting Donald’s political career.

Barron spent much of his childhood in New York City, growing up and attending exclusive private schools on the Upper West Side. Following Donald’s 2017 inauguration, Barron finished the school year in New York, then joined his father at the White House.

While living in Washington, Barron was enrolled at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Maryland. He transferred to a private academy in Palm Beach when Donald left office, after the Trump family decided to relocate to Florida full-time.

Barron, who turns 19 in March, graduated high school last spring and is now in his first year of college at New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Despite maintaining his class schedule in Manhattan, Barron will have a place to stay at the White House, allowing him to “come and visit” whenever he wants, his mother recently told Fox News’ Ainsley Earhardt.

“Whatever he would like to do,” Melania said. “I feel as children, we have them till they are 18, 19 years old. We teach them, we guide them, and then we give them the wings to fly.”

Though he’s recently stepped into adulthood, Chelsea Clinton — who was also a child when her father, former President Bill Clinton, was sworn into office — has advocated for his continued privacy. Just after Barron’s 18th birthday, the former first daughter defended him against invasive media attention.

“I feel so strongly that if you are a private citizen, you have an unimpeachable right to privacy,” she said.

It was a historic moment as the first son, who once witnessed his father’s first inauguration, now attended Donald’s second inauguration eight years later. The young man, now grown and matured, stood proudly by his father’s side as he took the oath of office once again.

The first son, who had been a mere teenager during his father’s first inauguration, now stood tall and confident, embodying the values and principles instilled in him by his father. As he watched his father deliver his inaugural address, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and admiration for the man who had raised him to be strong, independent, and resilient.

As the first son looked out at the crowd of supporters gathered to witness the historic event, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of hope and optimism for the future. He knew that his father was a strong and capable leader, and he was confident that together, they could continue to make a positive impact on the country.

As the ceremony came to a close and the first son embraced his father, he knew that he was witnessing a moment that would go down in history. The bond between father and son had only grown stronger over the years, and the first son was grateful to have the opportunity to witness his father’s second inauguration and be a part of such a momentous occasion.

  • Rep. Byron Donalds makes his move for a potential gubernatorial bid in 2026

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., has been telling potential donors and Florida political players that he is running for governor in 2026, the clearest signal yet that his much-expected bid is moving forward.

Donalds, who represents southwest Florida, has long been rumored to be considering a campaign to replace term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis, but those rumors have ramped up in recent days. Last weekend, at a state Republican Party meeting in Orlando, Donalds sponsored a hospitality suite and told people he is running.

In the past week, he has sent an even clearer sign of his intentions in a series of meetings with key lobbyists and political donors.

The account of Donalds’ preparations come from five sources familiar with the meetings and his thinking.

“He was in town [Tallahassee] meeting with all the folks you need to meet with. He told them he is in,” a source who met with Donalds said. “It’s the steps any candidate takes as they prepare to run for governor.”

Donalds told NBC News: “I’m fully focused on helping President Trump pass his America First Agenda. Florida will proudly lead the way.”

The Republican field to replace DeSantis was once seen to be as big as five or six candidates, but with state Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis running for Congress and state Attorney General Ashley Moody most likely being appointed to fill the Senate seat vacated by Marco Rubio, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for secretary of state, the field has considerably narrowed.

The two most prominent Republican names now considered to be running are Donalds and state Agriculture Commission Wilton Simpson, who previously was president of the state Senate.

Former U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, who recently took a job as an anchor on the conservative TV network OAN, has also publicly signaled he is considering a run, which was first reported by the Tampa Bay Times.

“Florida needs a Governor who can break the control insurance companies have over Tallahassee. I can do that, so it’s something Ginger and I are considering,” Gaetz said in a message to NBC News, referring to his wife.

Simpson’s team did not respond to requests for comment.

Donalds is considered a close ally of Trump and a mainstay on cable news channels, giving him a high profile and ability to raise significant out-of-state money. But Simpson is a longtime veteran of Florida politics with $30 million already in the bank, making him a formidable potential candidate.

The forthcoming nationally watched Republican primary for governor will almost certainly hinge on one thing: Trump.

Florida, where Trump resides, is now a solidly red state after years of Republican domination, and Trump won it by nearly 15 percentage points. He is seen as the biggest kingmaker in Florida politics, including its coming midterm race for governor.

Simpson has a long relationship with Trump’s incoming White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles, as does Donalds. Donalds is viewed as having a closer direct relationship with Trump after having served as one of his most vocal 2024 allies and closest congressional confidants.

In addition, Donalds has hired as one of his top Florida advisers Ryan Smith, a former business partner with James Blair, the political director of Trump’s 2024 campaign, who will now serve as a top administration official.

Along with Smith, Donalds is working with Brad Herold, a veteran of Florida Republican politics, who was one of the top early advisers for DeSantis when he made his underdog bid for governor in 2018. Donalds has also hired Tony Fabrizio, who was a top Trump pollster, and fundraiser Megan McKinley, who has worked for Rubio and Sen. Todd Young of Indiana, former chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

While the field has narrowed, DeSantis himself is seen as a potential wild card.

He was once so close with Donalds that Donalds introduced DeSantis and his family at his re-election night party in 2022. The two have had a swift falling out, however, after Donalds backed Trump in the GOP presidential primary. DeSantis has never been close with Simpson, making it unlikely he would endorse him.

To find a candidate he could formally back, two people familiar with his thinking said, DeSantis could appoint Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez to become president of Florida International University, her alma mater, and her replacement would be viewed as DeSantis’ preferred pick to run for governor to replace him.

There is not yet a short list for who could be in line for that position.

There is no set timeline for when Donalds or any other candidate would make their bids official, but there are concerns about his leaving Congress too soon with Republicans holding a slim majority in the House.

The timeline for any announcement could hinge, in part, on the conclusion of two special congressional races in Florida necessitated by Gaetz’s resignation from the House and Trump’s selecting Rep. Mike Waltz as his national security adviser. Patronis and state Rep. Randy Fine, respectively, are heavily favored in the races for those seats, which lean Republican.

The special election for both seats is set for April 1.

Rep. Byron Donalds, the rising star in the Republican Party, has officially announced his intention to run for governor in 2026. The Florida congressman, known for his conservative values and unwavering support for former President Donald Trump, has been building a strong base of supporters across the state.

Donalds, who was first elected to Congress in 2020, has quickly made a name for himself as a staunch defender of conservative principles. He has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration’s policies and has consistently stood up for the rights of Floridians.

With his eye on the governor’s mansion, Donalds has wasted no time in laying the groundwork for his potential bid. He has been traveling across the state, meeting with voters and building relationships with key Republican officials.

As he prepares to launch his campaign, Donalds is positioning himself as a strong contender in what is sure to be a crowded field. With his charisma, conservative values, and strong track record of leadership, he is sure to be a force to be reckoned with in the 2026 gubernatorial race. Keep an eye on this rising star in the Republican Party as he makes his move for the top job in Florida.

  • Top Trump ally Byron Donalds turns up volume on likely 2026 run for Florida governor

Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., appears to be getting more vocal about running for Florida governor in 2026 in the race to succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Donalds, a leading friend, ally and supporter of President-elect Trump in the House of Representatives, in recent days has been telling potential donors and Florida political players that he intends to run for governor, Republican sources confirm to Fox News.

Some of those conversations occurred last weekend in Orlando at the Florida GOP’s annual meeting.

“He’s serious,” a source with knowledge told Fox News.

WHAT BYRON DONALDS SAID ON FOX NEWS SUNDAY

Another signal came a week ago when Donalds hired prominent Republican pollster Tony Fabrizio’s research firm. Fabrizio was a top pollster in Trump’s 2016 and 2024 presidential campaigns.

WHY TRUMP IS PRAISING ONE-TIME PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY RIVAL DESANTIS

The conservative former state lawmaker who has represented parts of southwest Florida’s 19th District in Congress for four years has been eyeing a potential gubernatorial bid for months.

“I’ve thought about it. I don’t really rule anything out,” Donalds said in a Fox News Digital interview last spring when asked about a possible run for governor.

Donalds, who was a top surrogate on the campaign trail last year for Trump, was interviewed a few days after Trump, at a closed-door fundraiser in New York City, suggested that if Donalds ran for Florida governor in 2026, he’d have “many friends in the race.”

“It’s really cool that people back home in Florida consider me to be able to be the state’s next governor. It’s really an honor. It’s honestly surreal thinking about it because I’m 45 and my journey through politics has been a really fruitful one,” Donalds said at the time. “It’s really humbling and an honor, but I just focus on doing the job I have.”

Another prominent Florida Republican who’s believed to be considering a run is state Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, the former president of the state Senate.

And former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., who was Trump’s first choice for attorney general in his second administration before dropping out amid controversy, has also said he’s thinking of running.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody was also thought to be mulling a run to succeed DeSantis, her ally in Tallahassee, but the governor on Thursday named Moody to succeed Sen. Marco Rubio, Trump’s nominee for secretary of state, who is likely to be one of the president-elect’s first Cabinet picks to be confirmed by the Senate.

And Florida’s chief financial officer, Jimmy Patronis, who was also believed to be interested in a potential gubernatorial campaign, is considered the front-runner in this month’s special congressional election to fill Gaetz’s seat.

“With Moody going to the Senate, should he choose to run for governor, Donalds would be the clear favorite over Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, who is the Tallahassee establishment’s choice,” Fabrizio said. “We’ll see if the Tallahassee establishment smartens up after betting and losing badly in 2010 against [former two-term governor and current Sen.] Rick Scott and in 2018 against Ron DeSantis.”

With Florida, which was once a top general election battleground state, now firmly red, the slowly emerging gubernatorial battle may be determined by whom Trump, the GOP’s kingmaker in his adopted home state of Florida and across the country, may eventually back.

But not to be discounted is any possible endorsement by DeSantis in the race to succeed the governor.

Byron Donalds, a top ally of former President Donald Trump, is making headlines as he turns up the volume on his likely 2026 run for Florida governor. The Republican congressman has been a vocal supporter of Trump and his policies, and has quickly risen through the ranks in the GOP.

Donalds, who represents Florida’s 19th congressional district, has been gaining national attention for his conservative stances on issues such as immigration, gun rights, and fiscal responsibility. He has also been a staunch critic of President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, earning him a reputation as a firebrand in conservative circles.

With the 2026 gubernatorial race looming on the horizon, Donalds has been ramping up his public appearances and fundraising efforts in preparation for a potential run. Many political analysts believe that he could be a formidable candidate, given his strong support among Trump supporters and his proven track record of winning elections in Florida.

As Donalds continues to build momentum for his gubernatorial bid, all eyes will be on him as he navigates the complex world of Florida politics. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development in the Sunshine State’s political landscape.

Growing up, actor Kiefer Sutherland “wasn’t aware” of his father Donald’s success.

And it was only when he moved to Hollywood to pursue his own career, aged 17, that he realised what a “special and great” actor his father was.

“I phoned my dad and I said, ‘I feel so terrible,’” Kiefer says, in an interview being shown on BBC Two’s Lives Well Lived programme at 18:00 GMT on Sunday 29 December.

Donald Sutherland, who appeared in more than 200 screen roles, died in June, aged 88.

“So I’m 17 years old, I’ve moved to Los Angeles and a friend had this incredible collection of all of my father’s films on VHS [Video Home System],” Kiefer says.

Over two or three days, the teenager binge-watched his father’s work.

“When I see his work, it’s just astounding,” Kiefer says.

He told his father: “I didn’t realise how special and great you are as an actor.”

“And he was so sweet – he kind of almost cried and said, ‘Well, how could you? You were just a boy.’

“And that was a really special moment for both of us and our relationship kind of took a turn at that point.”

When the pair later worked together, on 2016 western Forsaken, “It was a great time to spend together,” Kiefer says.

Set in 1872, Forsaken, focuses on embittered gunslinger John Henry Clayton’s return to his hometown and his attempts to build bridges with his estranged father.

Their on-screen characters are in fierce conflict – but the off-screen relationship between the two actors was harmonious.

“I just loved watching him do his thing,” Kiefer says.

    Engineering degree

Known for an array of major parts, including in The Dirty Dozen, M*A*S*H, Don’t Look Now, Klute and Six Degrees of Separation, Donald Sutherland was not always destined for an acting career.

From a small fishing village in eastern Canada, he was part way through an engineering degree at the University of Toronto when he quit and went to England to follow his dream of becoming an actor.

“The courage to do that is extraordinary,” Kiefer says.

An early appearance on British television came in a 1960s production of Hamlet, with a young Michael Caine.

    Incredibly proud

But his big break was in The Dirty Dozen, in which, at first, he had a non-speaking part but was picked for something far bigger, apparently at random, by director Bob Aldrich.

“He didn’t even know my name,” Sutherland said.

“We’d all had our hair shaved off. He looked around the table and he said, ‘You with the big ears, you do it.’”

Kiefer describes this as “a real breakout moment for my father”.

But the fact he then “managed to be in films that were incredibly important each decade, is a testament to his capabilities as an actor – and I’m incredibly proud of him for it”, he says.

    ‘Superhuman skill’

Never nominated for an Oscar, Donald Sutherland received an Academy Honorary Award in 2017 for his lifetime contribution to cinema.

“His love and his humour and his kindness were huge,” Kiefer says.

“He had, I think, superhuman skill as an actor and it’s wonderful to have it.

“I’m very lucky as a son, you know, to be able to throw on a film and, you know, get to see my dad.”

Lives Well Lived is on BBC Two at 18:00 GMT on Sunday 29 December.

Growing up as the son of esteemed actor Donald Sutherland, Kiefer Sutherland had no idea about his father’s success in Hollywood. Despite being surrounded by the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry, Kiefer was shielded from his father’s fame and fortune.

Donald Sutherland, known for his iconic roles in films such as "MAS*H," "The Dirty Dozen," and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," kept his work life separate from his family life. He never discussed his career achievements or celebrity status with his son, wanting Kiefer to forge his own path in the world.

It wasn’t until Kiefer entered the acting world himself that he truly understood the magnitude of his father’s accomplishments. As he navigated his own career in Hollywood, Kiefer learned to appreciate the legacy his father had built and the impact he had on the industry.

Despite growing up unaware of his father’s success, Kiefer Sutherland has since come to admire and respect Donald’s contributions to the world of entertainment. And while the two may have taken different paths in their careers, there is no denying the talent and influence that runs in the Sutherland family.
