  • Andraya Carter on John Calipari: ‘The worst thing you can do after a breakup is show up to the club with a downgrade’

John Calipari makes his highly-anticipated return to Rupp Arena on Saturday night wearing Arkansas red along with a handful of former Kentucky players and one-time recruits. One of the biggest topics of debate has been what Big Blue Nation’s reaction should be coming in.

ESPN’s Andraya Carter used an interesting analogy to describe why she believes BBN won’t be exactly welcoming of their old head coach. If Arkansas hadn’t lost six of its first seven games in SEC play, the argument would be a bit different.

“The only thing that’s really going to make it feel better is if [Arkansas] can shut the crowd up,” Carter said. “If his team can go out there and perform to a level where the crowd can’t even get into it — but that’s going to be the struggle.

“Listen, the worst thing you can do after a breakup is show up to the club with a downgrade. … Like y’all know when you show up to the bar, your new isn’t as good as your old was, and everybody’s just looking at you like — you have to show up with an upgrade. That’s the only way everybody is quiet. So, if Arkansas could come in and shut the crowd up by playing at a high level, that is the only thing.”

Kentucky fans will remember Rick Pitino’s first time back in Rupp Arena in 2001, coming out of the UK tunnel to the chorus of 20,000 booing fans in the arena. However, he returned as the head coach of Kentucky’s most bitter rival, Louisville. While Arkansas is still a fellow SEC school, the rivalry does not have ties as deep as the battle for the Bluegrass.

On one hand, Calipari is the man who took Kentucky to even Elite Eight’s, four Final Four’s, two national title appearances and the 2012 NCAA Championship. He won 410 games, contributing to Ketucky’s status as one of the all-time winningest program in college basketball history and is the program’s second all-time winningest head coach behind Adolph Rupp.

On the other, some fans feel as though Calipari left UK high and dry just days after going on a local news station with AD Mitch Barnhart to reaffirm his commitment to the program. Some fans haven’t gotten the bitter taste of the last five years worth of postseason woes out of their mouths, either.

No matter which side of BBN you’re on, everyone inside Rupp Arena will want to send the Razorbacks back to Fayetteville with a loss. For Arkansas, there’s nothing they’d want more than to play spoiler in an arena where Calipari has won in more than any head coach in history.

Andraya Carter on John Calipari: ‘The worst thing you can do after a breakup is show up to the club with a downgrade’

Former University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball player Andraya Carter recently shared her thoughts on her former coach, John Calipari, in a candid interview. When asked about Calipari’s decision to leave Tennessee for Kentucky in 2009, Carter didn’t hold back.

“The worst thing you can do after a breakup is show up to the club with a downgrade,” Carter said. “And that’s exactly what Calipari did when he left Tennessee for Kentucky. He went from coaching a legendary program like the Lady Vols to a program like Kentucky. It just doesn’t make sense.”

Carter, who now works as a basketball analyst, went on to criticize Calipari’s coaching style and recruiting tactics, saying that he prioritizes winning over player development and character. She also expressed disappointment in how Calipari handled his departure from Tennessee, saying that he could have handled it with more grace and respect.

Despite her criticisms, Carter acknowledged Calipari’s success at Kentucky and his ability to recruit top talent. However, she believes that his coaching philosophy and approach to the game could use some improvement.

Overall, Carter’s comments shed light on the complexities of coaching in college basketball and the impact that a coach’s decisions can have on players and programs. It’s clear that she still holds strong opinions about Calipari and his coaching career, and she’s not afraid to speak her mind about it.

  • Apple Gets Rare Downgrade From Jefferies, Analyst Warns On Slowing Revenue Growth, Missed Forecasts, And Falling iPhone Demand – Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)

Apple Inc. AAPL faces mounting pressure as Jefferies downgraded the tech giant to ‘underperform,’ citing concerns over revenue growth, following President Donald Trump‘s remarks about potential new U.S. investments from the company.

The Apple Analyst: Jefferies analyst Edison Lee cut his price target to $200.75 from $211.84, reported CNBC, projecting a 12.7% downside for the stock.

The rare bearish call stands in contrast to broader Wall Street sentiment, with only three other analysts recommending selling Apple shares compared to 19 buy ratings, according to Tipranks.com. The stock has already declined over 8% in 2024, following last year’s 30% gain.

The Apple Thesis: Lee warns Apple could miss its 5% revenue growth forecast for the first quarter of fiscal year 2025 and expects disappointing second-quarter guidance, citing weak iPhone sales and limited artificial intelligence developments.

The downgrade comes as Trump announced potential “massive investment” plans from Apple in the United States, revealed during his recent victory rally in Washington D.C. Trump cited a conversation with CEO Tim Cook, linking the investment to his election win and broader initiative to expedite approvals for companies investing $1 billion or more in the U.S.

Apple, which recently approached but fell short of a $4 trillion valuation, is set to report earnings on Jan. 30, with investors closely watching for signs of revenue weakness highlighted in the Jefferies report.

The contrasting narratives emerge amid strong market performance, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 gaining 1.9% in its best week since November. Apple’s consensus price target stands at $245.17, based on 30 analyst ratings, with recent analysis from MoffettNathanson, Bernstein, and B of A Securities suggesting a modest 2.25% upside potential.

Price Action: Apple closed at $229.98 on Friday, up 0.75% for the day. In after-hours trading, the stock dipped 0.21%. Year to date, Apple’s stock is down 5.69%, but over the past year, it has gained 18.61%, according to data from Benzinga Pro.

Apple Gets Rare Downgrade From Jefferies: Analyst Warns On Slowing Revenue Growth, Missed Forecasts, And Falling iPhone Demand

In a surprising move, tech giant Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has received a rare downgrade from Jefferies analyst, warning investors about slowing revenue growth, missed forecasts, and falling iPhone demand.

The downgrade comes as a blow to Apple, which has been a market leader in the tech industry for years. Analysts had previously been bullish on the company’s prospects, but recent trends have raised concerns about its future performance.

According to the Jefferies analyst, Apple’s revenue growth has been slowing down in recent quarters, leading to missed forecasts and disappointing earnings reports. This has raised questions about the company’s ability to maintain its strong position in the market.

In addition, the analyst highlighted a decline in demand for Apple’s flagship product, the iPhone. With competition increasing in the smartphone market, Apple has been facing challenges in maintaining its market share and attracting new customers.

Despite these challenges, Apple remains a strong player in the tech industry, with a loyal customer base and a strong brand reputation. However, investors will be keeping a close eye on the company’s performance in the coming quarters to see if it can overcome these obstacles and continue its growth trajectory.

Overall, the downgrade from Jefferies serves as a reminder that even the strongest companies can face challenges in a rapidly changing market. Investors should carefully monitor Apple’s performance and future strategies to assess its long-term potential.

  • Philadelphia 76ers Downgrade Veteran vs Portland Trail Blazers

Philadelphia 76ers Downgrade Veteran vs Portland Trail Blazers

As the Philadelphia 76ers approach their Monday night game on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers, they have a crowded injury report. After initially leaving the veteran Kyle Lowry off the report when it was released on Sunday night, the Sixers downgraded the guard.

According to the official NBA injury report, Lowry is dealing with hip soreness. As a result, the Sixers are approaching their matchup with the Blazers, describing Lowry as questionable.

While Lowry has been healthy for most of the season, he has missed a handful of games at time throughout the year.

Lowry’s latest absence came on December 13, when the Sixers hosted the Indiana Pacers. The Sixers fell short by 14 points in that outing. Lowry returned to the court in the following game and hasn’t missed any action since.

During this current stretch, Lowry is seeing the court for roughly 16 minutes per game. He’s shooting just 31 percent from the field and 33 percent from three while posting averages of two points, two rebounds, and three assists per game. In all six games, Lowry held a role off the bench.

This season, Lowry has seven absences. He missed a stretch of games in November, wrapping up his string of absences before December’s run started.

In the 22 games Lowry played this year, he’s averaged four points on 36 percent shooting. Attempting three shots from three per game, Lowry is connecting on 35 percent of his shots from deep.

Along with Lowry, the Sixers are questioning the statuses of Joel Embiid, Eric Gordon, and Andre Drummond. Meanwhile, Justin Edwards, Jared McCain, and KJ Martin are ruled out of the Monday night action in Portland.

The Sixers and the Blazers are set to tip at 10 PM ET.

The Philadelphia 76ers made a surprising move today, opting to downgrade their veteran player in their matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers. This decision comes as a shock to many fans and analysts, as the veteran player has been a key contributor to the team’s success in recent games.

While the specific player has not been named, it is clear that the 76ers are looking to shake things up and potentially give younger players more playing time. This move could be a gamble for the team, as they will be facing a tough opponent in the Trail Blazers.

It will be interesting to see how this decision plays out on the court and if the 76ers can still come out on top without their veteran presence. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • Philadelphia 76ers Downgrade Joel Embiid vs Utah Jazz

Philadelphia 76ers Downgrade Joel Embiid vs Utah Jazz

Entering Saturday’s game against the Utah Jazz, the Philadelphia 76ers find themselves in a familiar position. They aren’t sure about the playing status of the All-Star center, Joel Embiid.

According to the Sixers’ injury report, Embiid is questionable to play. Not only is the star center still recovering from a sinus fracture, which has him sporting a mask, but Embiid is also dealing with a foot sprain. The sprain becomes his third setback of the season.

While Embiid has returned to action much quicker than expected after receiving the sinus fracture diagnosis, it’s unclear if his new ailment will break the trend of him playing this weekend.

Since the beginning of the 2024-2025 NBA season, Embiid has missed time as he managed the knee injury he suffered last season. The big man sat out for the first nine games of the season. After returning in four of the next five games after his season debut, swelling in the knee caused Embiid to miss an additional seven matchups.

Lately, Embiid has played in three of the last four games. Against the Charlotte Hornets on December 20, Embiid checked in for 31 minutes. He scored 34 points, nine assists, and five rebounds. Since it was night one of a back-to-back set, Embiid took the following game off.

When the Sixers faced the San Antonio Spurs earlier this week, Embiid’s night ended after just 14 minutes. He was ejected after a heated exchange with a referee.

Wednesday’s game against the Boston Celtics included a 30-minute appearance from Embiid. He produced 27 points, nine rebounds, and two assists in the four-point win over the Celtics.

Overall, Embiid has nine appearances this year. The star big man has averaged 21 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. It’s unclear if he’ll make it ten games on Saturday. As of now, Embiid is likely a game-time decision to face the Jazz.

The Philadelphia 76ers made a surprising move by downgrading star player Joel Embiid for their upcoming game against the Utah Jazz. This decision comes as a shock to many fans, as Embiid has been a key player for the team this season.

While the exact reason for the downgrade has not been disclosed, it is clear that the absence of Embiid will have a significant impact on the team’s performance. The 76ers will need to rely on their other players to step up and fill the void left by their star center.

It will be interesting to see how the 76ers fare without Embiid on the court against a tough opponent like the Jazz. Fans will be watching closely to see if the team can still come out on top despite this unexpected setback.

  • Colts downgrade Anthony Richardson; Joe Flacco starts vs. Giants

Colts downgrade Anthony Richardson; Joe Flacco starts vs. Giants

The Indianapolis Colts have ruled out quarterback Anthony Richardson ahead of Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Richardson had been listed as questionable on Friday’s final injury report after not practicing this week with foot and back injuries. Coach Shane Steichen said the back issue was the more pronounced of the two, saying, “He was just sore all week, really sore. So we just stayed smart there.”

A team source said Richardson was dealing with back spasms that had not been previously diagnosed.

Richardson will miss his third game of the season due to injury after being out for two games because of his oblique. Veteran backup quarterback Joe Flacco will start in Richardson’s place.

A source indicated that the injury was not expected to prevent Richardson from playing in the Colts’ regular-season finale.

The Colts remain alive in the playoff race and will still be in contention Sunday if the Los Angeles Chargers lose Saturday. The Colts would be eliminated with a Chargers win.

The Indianapolis Colts have made a surprising move, downgrading Anthony Richardson and naming Joe Flacco as the starting quarterback for their upcoming game against the New York Giants. This decision comes as a shock to many fans and analysts, as Richardson has been the starter for the Colts for the majority of the season. Flacco, a veteran quarterback with plenty of experience, will now have the opportunity to lead the team against the Giants. • Patriots downgrade starter to out, will 1st-rounder debut at new spot?

Patriots downgrade starter to out, will 1st-rounder debut at new spot?

The Patriots will have a new starter at center on Saturday afternoon.

Ben Brown wasn’t able to clear the concussion protocol in time for this weekend’s game with the Chargers, so he’s been downgraded to out. That means New England will likely start either Cole Strange or Lecitus Smith at center, neither of whom has a snapped a ball in a game for the Patriots this season.

    Strange’s story is well documented.

A first-rounder in 2022, the guard suffered a knee injury so severe last December that he needed to learn how to walk again. Needless to say, it’s been an arduous recovery from the torn patellar tendon.

“It was crazy,” Strange said. “I felt like a baby deer. It was awkward as hell. The only thing that goes on with it is just doing it. Walking with crutches and then walking without them. Forcing yourself not to limp – not to go onto the right leg. It’s not the same, but it’s kind of the same with football. It’s just doing it.”

Since returning to practice last month, Strange has worked exclusively at center. He’d only played guard under Bill Belichick during his first two seasons in Foxborough, but vowed to be ready to start at his new spot if his number is called on Saturday afternoon.

“I’m fired up for the opportunity, honestly,” Strange told Karen Guregian. “I feel like I’ve been working for this for a year now. And I’m just excited for the opportunity, really.

“The position I’m in, is really no different than the position that a lot of guys across the league are in, coming back from injury. Maybe they’ve had a week or so of practice, I’ve had multiple weeks. I’m in a new position, so I’m still sort of figuring it out, but I’ve had plenty of time … I feel very prepared.”

If the Patriots don’t think Strange is ready, they can turn to Smith, who they’ve used as a jumbo tight end at times. A sixth-rounder in 2022, the 26-year-old has been with five different NFL organizations, but the Cardinals are the only other team he’s appeared in a game with.
