  • Victor Wembanyama Downgraded for Spurs-Heat

The San Antonio Spurs will be shorthanded on Day two of their back-to-back.

Just 45 minutes prior to tipoff, the team announced that Victor Wembanyama — coming off of a 30-point, six-block performance against the Milwaukee Bucks — has been downgraded from available to out as he battles an unnamed illness.

Wembanyama sounded under the weather during his postgame press conference Friday evening as he spoke on the Spurs’ blowout win over Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, but didn’t mention any illness or injury.

San Antonio, currently outside the top 10 in the Western Conference, is seeking back-to-back wins for the first time since the end of December — a pair of over the LA Clippers and Denver Nuggets boosted them to two games above .500 the close-out 2024 — but with its star now on the bench report, that mission could see a drastic increase in difficulty.

In spite of that, the Spurs will remain confident and keep .500 in sight.

“(Tonight) is one more example of how we need to play,” Wembanyama said Friday. “It’s an open door for the rest of the season. I could tell that everybody was tired of losing.

“There wasn’t one moment where we let them be … we’ve got to be inspired by that.”

Tipoff between the Spurs and Heat at Frost Bank Center is set for 8:30 p.m. EST.

Victor Wembanyama Becomes Youngest All-Star in Franchise History

The basketball world was left in shock today as top NBA prospect Victor Wembanyama was unexpectedly downgraded for the upcoming matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat.

Wembanyama, a 7-foot-2 center from France, has been turning heads with his exceptional skills and potential to become a future star in the league. However, it seems that his status has been lowered for this particular game, leaving fans wondering what could have led to this decision.

While the reason for Wembanyama’s downgrade remains unclear, one thing is for certain – this development has added even more intrigue to an already highly anticipated showdown between two powerhouse teams.

Will Wembanyama be able to use this setback as motivation to prove his doubters wrong, or will he struggle to make an impact on the court? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – all eyes will be on him as he takes the court for the Spurs-Heat matchup. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

While Kessler and John Collins (illness) are both out, Kyle Filipowski will likely see some added opportunities at center. • GE Vernova downgraded at Guggenheim with ‘easy money made’

    https://www.tipranks.com/news/the-fly/ge-vernova-downgraded-at-guggenheim-with-easy-money-made

As previously reported, Guggenheim analyst Joseph Osha downgraded GE Vernova (GEV) to Neutral from Buy and removed the firm’s prior $380 price target The revised rating reflects not only the stock’s strong recent performance, but also the firm’s belief that the pace of upward revisions in GE Vernova’s financial model is likely to slow, which makes additional upside to valuation based on EBITDA and free cash flow “less likely,” the analyst tells investors. The stock now appears fairly valued, the analyst added.

Guggenheim analyst, Thomas Green, downgraded General Electric’s Vernova division from a “buy” rating to a “hold” rating, citing that the easy money has already been made on the stock.

In a research note to clients, Green stated, “We believe that the recent surge in GE Vernova’s stock price has priced in much of the anticipated growth and positive developments in the division. While we still see long-term potential in Vernova, we believe that the current valuation is not justified and that investors may have already made the easy money on this stock.”

The downgrade comes after GE Vernova’s stock price more than doubled over the past year, fueled by strong earnings and positive market sentiment. However, Green warns that the stock may be vulnerable to a pullback as investors take profits and reassess their positions.

Investors are advised to carefully consider their investment thesis for GE Vernova and to proceed with caution in light of the recent downgrade.

  • Is LeBron James playing tonight? Why Lakers star was downgraded on injury report vs. Warriors

LeBron James and Stephen Curry will face off tonight, but the former’s injury designation puts this highly anticipated matchup in jeopardy

NBA Rivals Week is headlined by a battle between the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and the greatest 3-point shooter ever when the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors meet. James and Curry are 12-12 head-to-head in the regular season. Curry holds a 17-11 edge in the postseason, but since joining the Lakers, James is 10-8 against the sharpshooter.

These two teams last played on Christmas Day, a classic that Los Angeles walked away with 115-113. James finished with 31 points, 10 assists and four rebounds. Curry tallied 38 points, eight 3s and six assists.

As tonight’s matchup approaches, there is a growing concern that James’ injury designation might rob NBA fans of one of the last battles between two of the NBA’s all-time greats.

Here is a full breakdown of James’ status.

SN’s NBA HQ: Live NBA scores | Updated NBA standings | Full NBA schedule

    Is LeBron James playing tonight?

James is available to play against the Warriors, Lakers coach JJ Redick announced pregame.

James has been listed on Los Angeles’ injury report for much of the season due to a foot injury. Heading into tonight’s matchup, he was listed as probable due to left foot injury management. However, only hours before tipoff, the Lakers announced James had been downgraded to questionable.

Players are more likely to play than not if tagged with a questionable designation on the injury report, but seeing as how James was downgraded today, he may have suffered a setback or re-aggravated his foot injury during Los Angeles’ shootaround.

James is averaging 23.6 points, 8.9 assists and 7.7 rebounds on 51.1 percent shooting from the field and 39.4 percent from 3 in his 22nd season.

    Lakers schedule 2025

Through 42 games, a game over half the season, the Lakers are 24-18, giving them the fifth-best record in the Western Conference.

Los Angeles has the 12th-hardest remaining strength of schedule, including two matchups with the Oklahoma City Thunder, three games against the Denver Nuggets and two contests versus the New York Knicks.

Here is a look at the Lakers’ upcoming schedule:

    Date Team Time (ET)
    Sat., 1/25 at Warriors 8:30
    Mon., 1/27 at Hornets 7:00
    Tue., 1/28 at 76ers 7:30
    Thu., 1/30 at Wizards 7:00
    Sat., 2/1 at Knicks 8:30
    Tue., 2/4 at Clippers 10:00
    Thu., 2/6 vs. Warriors 10:00

After traveling to San Francisco tonight, the Lakers will take a four-game East Coast road trip. They then play a road game against the Los Angeles Clippers before hosting Curry and the Warriors. The Lakers are 8-12 on the road this year.

The Lakers play five games in seven days, three of which are against sub-500 Eastern Conference teams. James could sit a few of those matchups as Los Angeles looks to preserve its star for the playoffs.

    MORE NBA NEWS:

LeBron James has been a key player for the Los Angeles Lakers, but fans are left wondering if he will be playing tonight. Unfortunately, the Lakers star has been downgraded on the injury report for tonight’s game against the Golden State Warriors.

This news has come as a disappointment to many fans, as James’ presence on the court is always a game-changer for the Lakers. The team will have to find a way to step up in his absence and secure a win against a tough opponent like the Warriors.

As for James’ injury status, details have not been disclosed yet. It is unclear why he was downgraded on the injury report, but it is likely that the team is being cautious with his health and giving him some rest to prevent further injury.

Fans will have to wait and see if LeBron James will be able to suit up and play tonight, but in the meantime, the Lakers will have to rely on their depth and talent to pull off a win without their star player.

  • Star Player Unexpectedly Downgraded for Celtics vs Clippers

The LA Clippers and Boston Celtics are two teams both needing to make a statement win on Wednesday. Unfortunately, both teams have been dealing with a myriad of injuries and the situation has unexpectedly gotten a bit worse.

LA entered the day without Kawhi Leonard and Ivica Zubac, while also having James Harden, Norman Powell, and others listed as questionable. Boston had their own stars listed as questionable, with both Jrue Holiday and Al Horford on the report.

Now, on the morning of the game, the Celtics have officially downgraded Kristaps Porzingis to questionable against the Clippers due to a non-covid illness.

After dealing with a long-term injury to start the season, Porzingis has remained very available for the Boston Celtics; he’s played in eight of the last nine games for the team.

Through 19 games this season, Porzingis is averaging 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks on 47/38/84 shooting from the field. The last time he played the Clippers in November, he torched them with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks on 50% shooting from the field.

If both Porzingis and Horford are unavailable for the Celtics against LA, it’ll be a huge relief for the Clippers who are without their big man Ivica Zubac. LA does have Mo Bamba available, but he’s a completely different caliber of center than Zubac.

The LA Clippers and Boston Celtics face off at 10:30 p.m. EST on Wednesday.

The Boston Celtics suffered a major blow ahead of their highly anticipated matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers as their star player, Jayson Tatum, has been unexpectedly downgraded due to an undisclosed injury.

Tatum, who has been a standout performer for the Celtics this season, was initially listed as questionable for the game but has now been ruled out, leaving fans and teammates alike disappointed.

This unexpected setback has put a damper on what was expected to be a thrilling showdown between two of the top teams in the league. Without Tatum on the court, the Celtics will have to rely on their depth and resilience to overcome the formidable Clippers.

It remains to be seen how this absence will impact the outcome of the game, but one thing is for certain – the Celtics will have to step up and fill the void left by their star player in order to secure a victory against a tough opponent.

  • Celtics injury report: 3 players downgraded for Clippers game Wednesday

LOS ANGELES — The Celtics will be without three rotation players on Wednesday night as they face off against a shorthanded Clippers squad at the Intuit Dome.

Boston downgraded Al Horford (toe), Kristaps Porzingis (illness) and Jrue Holiday (shoulder) from questionable to out hours before tip. Porzingis was a late add to the injury report on Wednesday morning. All of the absences are likely not cause for concern amid a five games in seven nights stretch for Boston.

The Celtics also had some extra reason to be cautious after seeing how the Clippers were approaching the contests. The hosts are playing four games in five nights and seemingly elected to punt on this contest against Boston by ruling out their entire starting five along with Nicolas Batum.

Kawhi Leonard (right knee) and Ivica Zubac (left eye) both were list out originally. Four other players downgraded from questionable to out are Nicolas Batum (right finger), Kris Dunn (left knee), James Harden (right groin) and Norman Powell (back).

The Clippers are a formidable opponent for Boston at full strength with a 24-18 record but will be relying on a skeleton crew against Boston. That should give the Celtics a massive talent advantage for the matchup even without three rotation players.

Boston will be looking to improve to 2-0 on their road trip after a 40-point blowout win over the Warriors.

The Boston Celtics have been hit with a wave of injuries ahead of their matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. Three key players have been downgraded on the injury report, leaving the team shorthanded for this crucial game.

Star forward Jayson Tatum has been ruled out with a knee injury, adding to the Celtics’ woes. Tatum has been a standout performer for Boston this season, averaging over 25 points per game.

In addition, veteran guard Marcus Smart has been downgraded to doubtful with a hamstring injury. Smart’s defensive prowess and leadership will be sorely missed in this matchup against the talented Clippers team.

Lastly, big man Robert Williams III has been listed as questionable with a hip injury. Williams has been a key contributor off the bench for the Celtics, providing rim protection and energy on both ends of the floor.

With these three players potentially sidelined, the Celtics will need their remaining players to step up and fill the void. It will be a challenging task for Boston to compete against the Clippers without some of their key players, but they will need to rally together and find a way to secure a much-needed victory.

  • Hawks All-Star Trae Young Downgraded Ahead of Lakers Matchup

Hawks All-Star Trae Young Downgraded Ahead of Lakers Matchup

Coming off a big win over the Portland Trail Blazers, the Los Angeles Lakers will be taking on the Atlanta Hawks. It will be the second night of a back-to-back for the Lakers and they will try to get another win.

According to the first initial injury reports, the Lakers could be taking on a Hawks team without star point guard Trae Young. Young is listed as questionable for the game as he deals with a right-hand contusion.

In addition to Young, Atlanta could be without a few other key players as well. Forward Jalen Johnson is listed as questionable as is guard Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Forward Larry Nance Jr. has been ruled out for this game as well as guard Kobe Bufkin. Center Cody Zeller is listed as questionable for Atlanta.

But the big fish for this Hawks team is Young. If Young is forced to miss this game, the Lakers would need to take advantage and make sure to come away with the win.

Young killed the Lakers the first time that these two teams met so Los Angeles would need to hone in on him if he does suit up. The guard has a certain shiftiness to him and he can shoot the lights out from beyond the 3-point line.

For the year, Young is averaging 22.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 12.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Young is also shooting a strange low from the 3-point line at 33.8 percent.

The Lakers have yet to release an injury report for themselves but it will likely have both LeBron James and Anthony Davis on it. Davis missed the game last night against the Trail Blazers as he deals with a lingering injury.

The team has been trying to make sure that he doesn’t play too many games and it seemed like a strategic move. James did play and posted 38 points to help get the win.

Los Angeles hasn’t normally had him playing in the second game of a back-to-back so his status vs Atlanta likely remains up in the air for now. If James can’t go, others will need to step up to get the win before the Lakers head out onto the road for a few games.

Atlanta Hawks fans received some disappointing news ahead of their highly anticipated matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. All-Star point guard Trae Young has been downgraded to doubtful for the game due to a lingering ankle injury.

Young, who has been a standout performer for the Hawks this season, is averaging 25.3 points and 9.6 assists per game. His absence will undoubtedly be felt on the court, as he is a key playmaker and scorer for the team.

Despite this setback, the Hawks will need to rally together and find a way to compete against the star-studded Lakers lineup. It will be a tough challenge without Young, but the team will need to step up and fill the void left by their talented point guard.

Hawks fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on Young’s status and hoping for a speedy recovery so that he can return to the court soon. In the meantime, they will have to support their team as they face off against the Lakers without one of their brightest stars.

  • Blazers Could Face Shorthanded Lakers Team with LA All-Star Downgraded

Blazers Could Face Shorthanded Lakers Team with LA All-Star Downgraded

The Portland Trail Blazers will be taking on the Los Angeles Lakers tonight for their first game in the 2025 year. Entering this game, it seems that Portland may see a shorthanded Lakers squad, possibly giving them an opening to snatch the game.

Lakers star big Anthony Davis has been downgraded to doubtful for this contest. Davis was originally listed as questionable but now seems in danger of missing this game.

Guard Gabe Vincent has also been downgraded to doubtful for the Lakers. This leaves Los Angeles with only a handful of players entering this game with Portland.

If Davis misses this game, it would be a massive loss for the Lakers. Davis has been the heart and soul of the team this season and dominated the Trail Blazers when the two teams matched up earlier this season.

The star posted 30 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out one assist, swiped two steals, and blocked five shots. Davis was everywhere for the Lakers as Los Angeles took down Portland in the game.

Lakers star LeBron James will need to step up if Davis does miss this contest. James missed the first game against Portland, setting up the strong performance from Davis.

Portland will look to exploit the lack of size that the Lakers will have without Davis, assuming he misses this game. Los Angeles is also dealing with different injuries to other big men on the roster, possibly leaving them very thin up front.

With Donovan Clingan, Robert Williams III, Deandre Ayton, and others, Portland could have a real advantage in the frontcourt. Los Angeles will need to find other ways to beat this team and the Trail Blazers size could work for them well.

The Trail Blazers sit toward the bottom of the Western Conference standings but they are only a few games back of competing for a playoff spot. With the new Play-In Tournament still around, Portland finds itself in a place that not many expected it to be in.

While a playoff run is unlikely, weirder things have happened in the NBA before. If Portland can put together a nice string of games, they could find themselves directly in the thick of it all.

The Portland Trail Blazers may have a favorable matchup in their upcoming game against the Los Angeles Lakers, as reports indicate that the Lakers could be without one of their key players.

According to sources, the Lakers’ All-Star player has been downgraded and may not be available to play in the upcoming game against the Blazers. This development could significantly impact the Lakers’ lineup and give the Blazers an advantage on the court.

With the Lakers potentially shorthanded, the Blazers will need to capitalize on this opportunity and bring their A-game to secure a victory. This game could be a crucial moment for the Blazers to gain momentum and continue their push towards the playoffs.

Fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on the status of the Lakers’ All-Star player and how it will affect the outcome of the game. Stay tuned for more updates as the game approaches.

3 days agoPhiladelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond (toe) has been downgraded to out ahead of Saturday’s game against the Utah Jazz. This was an interesting turns of events considering Drummond started the day as probable, but now won’t suit up for Saturday’s game. Normally, Drummond’s status wouldn’t mean much, but starting center Joel Embiid (foot) remains uncertain for this game. If Embiid sits, Guerschon Yabusele would likely be asked to play heavy minutes. In a surprising turn of events, the Los Angeles Lakers have announced that center Andre Drummond has been downgraded to out for the upcoming game. This news comes as a blow to the team, as Drummond has been a key player for them since his acquisition earlier this season.

The Lakers have not provided any specific details about Drummond’s injury or the reason for his sudden absence. However, this development raises questions about the team’s depth at the center position and how they will adjust their lineup in Drummond’s absence.

Fans and analysts alike will be keeping a close eye on how the Lakers fare without Drummond in the lineup and how this injury will impact their playoff aspirations. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

The risk of flooding in Highland communities has been downgraded after less rain fell overnight than expected.

A Met Office amber weather warning for rain came into force at midnight on Tuesday, covering Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey until 5pm.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) issued an alert for “severe” flooding just after 6am, telling residents in the Aviemore and Dalfaber areas to “act now”, however this was downgraded by 7.45am with no “severe” flood warnings in place.

Highland Council had previously advised guests staying at Aviemore Holiday Park to seek alternative accommodation due to the “imminent” risk of flooding, while Sepa had said evacuations were expected.

Sepa said river levels began to rise on Tuesday morning, rather than overnight as expected.

It said: “Overnight, water levels on the River Spey did not rise as expected. It did begin to rise early on Tuesday morning and that will continue into the day. Less rain fell overnight than was forecast, but is continuing to affect the area.”

As of midday on Tuesday, 40 Sepa flood warnings and 10 flood alerts were in place.

Pascal Lardet, Sepa’s flood duty manager, said: “While we thankfully did not see some of the very high levels predicted overnight around Aviemore and Carrbridge, there is still a particular concern for communities along the Spey river. Other catchments affected include the Tay, Ness, Forth and Teith.

“I want to be clear that communities in these areas should stay alert throughout the day and into tomorrow as some rivers will continue to rise over the course of the day and evening. People should still take any required action to protect themselves and their property.

“It’s been a difficult few days across Scotland, with weather causing widespread travel disruption to road and rail networks and impacts in communities.

“Across many areas of the country there is still some deep standing water and it’s really important people are prepared and aware of the danger.

“Hazards can be hidden, so please don’t walk or drive into flood water. Remember that not only is flood water likely to be dirty, 30cm of fast flowing water can move an average family-sized car, and just 15cm of fast flowing water could be enough to knock you off your feet.”

In addition to the amber warning, a yellow warning for rain and snow covering much of Scotland is in place until midnight, and a yellow warning for snow in Orkney and Shetland runs until midnight.

Good news for residents of the Highlands! The flood warning that was issued has been downgraded after less rain than forecasted. This means that the risk of flooding has been reduced and residents can breathe a sigh of relief.

While it’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to weather warnings, it’s reassuring to know that the situation is not as dire as initially predicted. It’s a reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather and the importance of staying informed and prepared.

Stay safe and be vigilant, but for now, it seems like the worst of the storm has passed. Let’s hope for clearer skies ahead.
