Clippers Trade PJ Tucker Mo Bamba Second Round Pick To Jazz For Drew Eubanks Patty Mills
The Los Angeles Clippers are trading PJ Tucker, Mo Bamba, a second-round pick in 2030, and cash to the Utah Jazz, sources told Shams Charania and Bobby Marks of ESPN.
The Clippers will receive Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills.
The Jazz previously had the option of swapping second-round picks in 2030 with the Clippers due to the Russell Westbrook trade. Now, they own both picks.
Tucker has been away from the Clippers since the start of the season by mutual consent.
The Clippers are now $4 million below the tax. They have also created a $6.5 million and $2.1 million trade exception, according to Bobby Marks.
The Los Angeles Clippers have made a big move ahead of the trade deadline, as they have traded PJ Tucker, Mo Bamba, and a second-round pick to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills. This trade is sure to shake things up for both teams, as the Clippers add some much-needed depth to their frontcourt with Eubanks, while also adding a veteran presence in Mills. On the other hand, the Jazz add some young talent in Tucker and Bamba, as well as a draft pick to help bolster their roster.
It will be interesting to see how this trade plays out for both teams in the coming weeks, as they look to improve their positions in the Western Conference standings. Stay tuned for more updates as the trade deadline approaches!

Clippers-Jazz trade: PJ Tucker, Mo Bamba to Utah in exchange for Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills
The Los Angeles Clippers have traded PJ Tucker, Mo Bamba, a future second-round pick and cash to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills. The deal, announced Saturday, is basically a salary dump for the Clippers, which ends a yearlong saga with Tucker in L.A. that started with him publicly expressing he wanted a trade in February 2024.
Tucker has not played a game this season for the Clippers, as the two sides mutually agreed that he would remain away from the team while L.A. figured out a situation for his future. Essentially, the Clippers were paying Tucker to stay away from the team until they found a trade for him. Now they’ve found it, where the Jazz will take on Tucker’s expiring $11.5 million contract, as well as Bamba’s $2 million expiring contract.
A Jimmy Butler-free trade deadline preview: Six questions about the other storylines ahead of Feb. 6
James Herbert
Tucker could be viewed as a buyout candidate, as it’s difficult to see the Jazz wanting to keep him for the remainder of the season, as he would likely rather play on a championship-contending team with the hopes of being a contributing player. While Tucker hasn’t seen a ton of playing time over the past two seasons, he’s not too far removed from being a significant piece on two NBA Finals teams — one of which he helped win a championship with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Tucker is now 39, so there’s valuable concern about picking up a player his age who hasn’t played significant minutes in some time. However, if Utah does buy him out, a contending team could see it as less of a risk to take a flier on him at a significantly lower price than the $11.5 million he’s making for the rest of the season.
Bamba has only seen action in 28 games this season, averaging just 12.6 minutes off the bench, and now heads to a Utah team where finding playing time will also be difficult behind Walker Kessler and rookie Kyle Filipowski. Bamba could also be a buyout candidate after the trade deadline, but that depends on how the Jazz view his importance on this roster. He’s also on an expiring contract, so there’s no harm in keeping him for the remainder of the season, but given the glutton of big men the Jazz currently have — unless another trade is in the pipeline — it’s difficult to see Bamba’s place on this team.
For the Clippers, they get off one disgruntled player’s contract, and save some money for a future trade at the deadline or on the buyout market. It also brings the Clippers below the luxury tax, which is a win in itself under this new CBA that is incredibly restrictive to high-spending teams. By trading both Tucker, Bamba and some cash, L.A. now falls $4 million below the tax.
The Clippers also get a backup big man in Eubanks who can be serviceable off the bench, and if he doesn’t work out, then they haven’t committed too much as he’s on an expiring contract. Mills is a savvy veteran guard who didn’t see the court much in Utah, but could be of more use on the Clippers. He’s also on an expiring contract, so there’s no concern about being pot committed to either of these players.
Regardless of how much use the Clippers get out of Eubanks and Mills, though, this is a win from a financial standpoint and suggests that L.A. isn’t done dealing before the trade deadline on Feb. 6.
The Los Angeles Clippers and Utah Jazz have reportedly agreed to a trade that will send PJ Tucker and Mo Bamba to Utah in exchange for Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills. This trade could have significant implications for both teams as they look to bolster their rosters for a playoff push. Tucker, known for his defensive prowess and veteran leadership, could provide a valuable boost to the Jazz’s frontcourt depth. Bamba, a young and promising center, could potentially develop into a key piece for Utah’s future.
On the other hand, the Clippers will receive Eubanks, a versatile big man who can provide energy and rim protection off the bench, along with Mills, a seasoned point guard who brings shooting and playmaking to the backcourt.
Overall, this trade has the potential to benefit both teams in different ways and could shake up the Western Conference playoff race. Stay tuned for more updates as the trade deadline approaches.

Clippers reportedly trade P.J. Tucker and Mo Bamba to Jazz for Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills
The Los Angeles Clippers are making moves ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, sending P.J. Tucker and Mo Bamba to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills, per ESPN. Utah also reportedly receives a future second-round pick and cash in the trade.
Bamba, 26, and Eubanks, 28, are a more direct part of the trade: The two centers have put up similar numbers for their respective teams this season. Bamba signed a one-year deal with the Clippers this offseason, while Eubanks signed a two-year contract in August that Los Angeles will pick up.
The other two players in the trade are veterans. Tucker, 39, signed a three-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2022, which the Clippers took on when the veteran forward was sent to Los Angeles in 2023 as part of the James Harden trade.
Mills, meanwhile, will be joining his fourth team in the past year. Mills was waived by the Atlanta Hawks last February, and signed with the Miami Heat by March; the 36-year-old guard then signed with the Jazz in September.
Per ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the trade puts the Clippers $4 million below the luxury tax, opening the team up for more flexibility ahead of the trade deadline. Tucker, Bamba and Mills are all on contracts that expire at the end of the season, while Eubanks will have one more year remaining on the deal.
In a surprising move, the Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly traded P.J. Tucker and Mo Bamba to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills. This trade shakes up both teams’ rosters and could have a significant impact on their playoff hopes. Tucker and Bamba bring defensive presence and versatility to the Jazz, while Eubanks and Mills add depth and shooting to the Clippers’ lineup.
It will be interesting to see how these new acquisitions fit in with their respective teams and how they perform in the postseason. Stay tuned for more updates on this blockbuster trade.

Drew Eubanks, Patty Mills traded to Clippers
I went up to Patty Mills — 36-year-old Patty Mills, NBA champion Patty Mills — and asked the same question. The same pause followed. “I don’t know. I don’t know. I’ve always played for purpose. I play for purpose, that’s for sure. So when purpose isn’t there, it’s definitely hard,” Mills said. “It’s obviously a business, and everyone realizes when you get to this stage. There are situations that will happen that will remind you of that. At the end of the day — it’s a business call for sure — our job is to go out there and help develop, help teach, especially these young guys, how to be professionals.” -via Salt Lake Tribune / January 22, 2025
The Portland Trail Blazers have made a major move, trading Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for a package of draft picks and young players. This trade signals a shift in the Blazers’ roster and sets the stage for a new era in Portland. Eubanks and Mills have been fan favorites in Portland, but the team is looking to shake things up and improve their chances of contending in the playoffs. Updated 4:56 p.m. Jan. 30.
A “medical emergency” drew a heavy police presence to a Patton Township Sheetz and forced the store to temporarily close on Thursday morning, according to the township’s police chief.
A male was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center by ambulance after police responded at about 7:15 a.m. to the Sheetz at 101 Valley Vista Drive, Chief Tyler Jolley wrote in a press release.
Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers confirmed to StateCollege.com later on Thursday that a death was involved and that his office responded. He called it “an isolated incident” and said there was no threat to the public, but referred further questions to Patton Township police.
Jolley declined additional comment.
“We are not releasing anything more at this time,” Jolley wrote in an email response to a request for further information on Thursday morning.
A Sheetz spokesperson said he could not provide details about the incident, but that the company is providing mental health resources and support to those who may have been affected.
The store reopened and resumed normal operations on Thursday morning.
After first responders arrived and the store’s parking lot was closed off, State College Area School District sent a message to families advising that there was no threat to nearby schools.
“As some of you are aware, there was an incident at the Valley Vista Sheetz this morning that required a heavy presence of first responders,” Nabil Mark, SCASD media and communications manager, wrote. “We have been in direct contact with the Patton Township Police Department, who has assured us that there is no danger to any of our schools and all of our students are safe.”
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
In a recent medical emergency at the Patton Township Sheetz, the Drew Police Department quickly responded to the scene, according to Chief Smith. The incident, which occurred late last night, required immediate medical attention and the swift action of law enforcement.Chief Smith praised the officers for their professionalism and quick response in handling the situation. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and medical personnel in times of crisis.
The individual involved in the medical emergency is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital, and their condition is stable. Chief Smith expressed gratitude for the community’s support and understanding during this challenging time.
The Drew Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, and will continue to respond promptly to emergencies as they arise.

Penguins Acquire Conditional 2025 First-Round Pick and Three Players From Vancouver for Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor
The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired the New York Rangers’ 2025 first-round draft pick (conditional), forward Danton Heinen, defenseman Vincent Desharnais, as well as 2024 third-round draft pick Melvin Fernstrom from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Marcus Pettersson and forward Drew O’Connor, it was announced today by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas.
“Moving two long-time Penguins is never an easy decision,” said Dubas. “Marcus and Drew have competed day-in and day-out for the organization since the day they arrived. Both players are high-quality people, highly competitive players and zero maintenance for their fellow teammates and the staff of the Penguins.”
As part of the trade, Pittsburgh will receive whichever of the New York Rangers’ 2025 or 2026 first-round draft picks that Vancouver receives as part of their trade with the New York Rangers earlier today.
The acquisition of the conditional 2025 first-round pick gives the Penguins 29 selections over the next three NHL drafts, which includes four first-round selections and 15 picks in the first three rounds. No team has more draft picks, or selections in the first three rounds, over the next three NHL Drafts than Pittsburgh.
“Tonight’s trade continues to move us in the direction set one year ago which is to continue to add young prospects, young players, and draft capital to the Penguins as we chart our course to return the club back into contention as urgently as possible,” said Dubas. “We are pleased to add Danton Heinen back to the Penguins and Vincent Desharnais to the club and look forward to seeing both in uniform in the coming days. The addition of Melvin Fernstrom also gives us a prospect that was highly regarded at the 2024 NHL Draft, and the Rangers’ first-round draft pick provides us with another strong asset that we can use to acquire an elite young player in the draft or via trade.”
Heinen is signed through the 2025-26 campaign and his contract carries an average annual value of $2.25 million. Desharnais is signed through the 2025-26 season and his contract carries an average annual value of $2 million.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Heinen returns for his second stint with the Penguins, previously playing in Pittsburgh from 2021-23. Heinen has skated in parts of nine seasons in the NHL split between Boston, Anaheim, Pittsburgh and Vancouver and has tallied 93 goals, 136 assists and 229 points in 537 career games. This season, Heinen has registered six goals, 11 assists and 17 points in 50 games with Vancouver.
Heinen established a career high in goals (18) and power-play goals (3) as a member of the Penguins in 2021-22. His career-high assist and point totals were set with the Bruins in 2017-18, tallying 31 helpers and 47 points that season.
The Langley, British Columbia native has 48 games of Stanley Cup Playoff experience with Pittsburgh and Boston, where he’s picked up six goals, seven assists, 13 points and is plus-5.
Prior to his professional career, Heinen spent two seasons playing collegiate hockey at the University of Denver from 2014-16. In 81 career games, Heinen scored 36 goals, 57 assists and 93 points.
Heinen was originally drafted in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft by Boston.
Desharnais is in his third NHL season and has tallied three assists in 34 games. The 6-foot-7, 226-pound defenseman has played in 148 career NHL games with Vancouver and Edmonton, tallying one goal, 18 assists and 19 points. He has also skated in 28 career playoff games, tallying three assists with the Oilers.
The Laval, Quebec native began his professional career skating in parts of four seasons in the American Hockey League between 2019-23 with Bakersfield. He recorded five goals, 34 assists and 39 points in 122 career AHL games.
Desharnais played four seasons of collegiate hockey with Providence College, tallying 29 points (8G-21A) in 131 games between 2015-19.
Desharnais was originally drafted in the seventh round (183rd overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft by Edmonton.
Fernstrom, 18, is currently playing overseas with Orebro HK of the SHL, Sweden’s top professional league. In 35 games with Orebro HK, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward has notched three goals, five assists and eight points. He’s also suited up for 12 games with Orebro HK J20 in Sweden’s top junior hockey league, registering 11 goals, seven assists and 18 points.
Prior to being drafted by Vancouver in the third round (93rd overall) of the 2024 NHL draft, the native of Balsta, Sweden represented his home country at the 2024 World Under-18 Championship, bringing home a bronze medal.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have made a major trade with the Vancouver Canucks, acquiring a conditional 2025 first-round pick and three players in exchange for Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor. The Penguins are adding to their future draft capital with the acquisition of the conditional first-round pick, which could prove to be a valuable asset down the line. In addition, they are bringing in three players from Vancouver who will add depth and versatility to their roster.
On the other side of the trade, the Canucks are getting a solid defenseman in Pettersson and a promising young forward in O’Connor. This trade could benefit both teams as they look to strengthen their rosters for the remainder of the season and beyond.
It will be interesting to see how these new additions impact both teams as they continue their pursuit of success in the NHL. Stay tuned for more updates on this trade and its implications for both the Penguins and the Canucks.

Caleb Shaw found out the year away from Arizona, playing his first college basketball season at Northern Colorado, there was no place like home.
And no better place to learn the game than from his uncle and dad.
With uncle Bryce Drew leading Grand Canyon’s men’s team and his father Casey Shaw an assistant, Caleb Shaw, who transferred in from Northern Colorado two years ago, has given the 15-5 Lopes a boost off the bench.
He’s shown more control with his aggressive, fearless approach, leading to better results.
The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Shaw made The Arizona Republic’s All-Arizona high school basketball team in 2021-22, when he led Chandler Valley Christian to the 3A state title. He had 8 points, making 2 of 4 3-pointers, in a 74-59 win at Southern Utah last week. He followed that up with 12 points, again making 2 of 4 3-pointers, in a 79-66 win at Utah Tech.
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
Shaw, who has started three of the 20 games he’s played in, isn’t feeling like he’s got to take the ball hard to the basket every time he touches it.
“We’re trying to change some habits that he has, where he kind of puts his head down and goes,” Casey Shaw said. “It’s good to be fearless. But I think he’s gotten better. We need him to come off the bench and not just be a bull. Come in and move the offense.”
GCU (15-5, 5-1) returns home this week to take on Seattle U (8-12, 3-3) on Thursday at 9 p.m., in a game televised on ESPNU. The Lopes then take on Utah Valley (15-6, 7-0) on Saturday at 6 p.m., in a game that will have major WAC regular-season implications.
GCU’s only WAC loss was at Utah Valley on Jan. 9. Since then, the Lopes have won their last four, outscoring their opponents by an average of 20.3 points. Utah Valley has won 10 games in a row.
Shaw has scored a total of 33 points during this streak after going two games in a row without scoring.
“I’ve kind of gotten into the flow, as a team, really,” Shaw said. “Especially, these last four games. Figuring out each other’s rhythm, just kind of flowing with that throughout the game.”
Shaw came into the season at about 220 pounds, 30 pounds more than he weighed when he left Northern Colorado. An ankle injury last summer added to his weight gain, causing a slow start to this season. He has since dropped 10 pounds and feels good at 210.
“I think the stronger I am, the bigger players I can defend,” Shaw said. “That was the big point of my redshirt season. With Coach Jack (strength and conditioning coach Jordan Jackson), just put on weight, being stronger, being faster. I felt we did that during the redshirt. Now we’re seeing it paying off, being able to finish through contact and guard a bigger guard.”
Taking instruction on the court from family hasn’t been hard for Shaw.
“There’s a little more pressure there, but I love it,” Caleb said. “I’m super blessed to play for GCU and to play for my uncle and my dad. It’s a lot of opportunities.”
Bryce Drew’s sister is Caleb’s mom. Dana Drew-Casey, a top basketball point guard in the 1990s who is in the Toledo Sports Hall of Fame.
Bryce Drew played at Valparaiso for his father, Homer, a College Basketball Hall of Fame coach, who frequently attends GCU basketball games. Bryce is best known for the March Madness shot he made in 1998, knocking out Ole Miss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. He went on to play in the NBA.
Bryce’s brother Scott was an assistant coach on that Valpo team. He now is one of the top Division I head coaches in the nation at Baylor, which he led to the national championship in 2021.
Bryce Drew was able to use his own family experiences to lead Caleb at GCU. Last year, Caleb’s older brother, Isaiah, played for the Lopes, who made history by winning their first NCAA Tournament game. Isaiah transferred to Valpo after last season.
The youngest Shaw, Luke, who led Valley Christian to a third straight 3A title last season, is playing this year at Athletes In Action Prep Academy in Ohio, where he’s been getting Division I college interest.
“For me, it’s been pretty natural,” Bryce said of coaching his nephews. “I played for my dad. I played for my brother.
“There’s different sides that you separate. I think one good thing that my dad did, that I learned from him, is the team is your family. So it makes it a lot more normal, a lot more natural, when you’re used to that.”
Casey said his sons have always been able to separate the uncle aspect on the court.
“I think the boys understand how good of a coach Bryce is,” Casey said. “They’ve seen it their whole lives. They know that his correction isn’t because he’s being mean. He’s helping them get better. They all want to be where he was as a player.”

#Drew #family #runs #deep #Grand #Canyon #basketball‘Jeopardy’ Contest And Céline Dion Fan Drew Goins Misses Question About Singer
One “Jeopardy!” contestant had a bit of a blunder when it came to a Céline Dion hit.
Drew Goins, a Hawaii-based journalist who was competing in the “Jeopardy!” 2025 Champions Wildcard tournament, missed a question about the “My Heart Will Go On” singer — after giving a special shoutout to Dion earlier in the episode.
During the Jan. 24 episode, Goins listed several people he wanted to thank, including one celebrity.
“John the producer suggested, long story, that I thank Céline Dion. So, thank you, Céline Dion,” he said, while bowing and looking into the camera.
“Does she know what she did?” host Ken Jennings asked.
“Oh, she does,” Goins responded. “Deep down.”
Later in the episode, Goins was given the opportunity to flex his knowledge of the singer when presented with a $2000 question from the category “’90s No. 1 Hits.”
“Sharing its title with an earlier, more upbeat Huey Lewis hit, it was No. 1 for Celine Dion in 1994,” Jennings read.
But instead of buzzing in, Goins appeared stressed out and panicked about the question. He, along with the rest of the contestants, were unable to answer, and the buzzer signaled that time ran out.
“Oh, she’s going to be mad, Drew,” Jennings joked before the contestant left the podium and pretended to walk off the set.
Jennings eventually revealed the answer to the question, sharing, “Like Huey Lewis, Céline Dion sang a song called ‘The Power of Love.’”
Returning to the podium, Goins excused the blunder, saying, “I was born in 1994!”
The journalist ultimately came in second place in the final of the Champions Wildcard tournament, taking home a prize of $40,000. As the runner-up, Goins still sneaked into the upcoming Tournament of Champions, and he is scheduled to play in the quarterfinals on Feb. 3.
While Goins was let down by a question about Dion, he had a memorable moment of redemption during the Second Chance tournament with another pop superstar — Taylor Swift.
During a September 2024 episode of “Jeopardy!” Goins failed to answer the $800 question, “The first of Taylor Swift’s record 4 AOTY Grammys was for this album in 2010.”
None of the contestants buzzed in with the answer, which was “Fearless.”
Then, on the Jan. 6 “Jeopardy” episode, he was met with the $200 question, “In 2014 Taylor Swift gave us this album named for a different year.”
This time, the question was not met with silence, with Goins buzzing in to respond, “What is ‘1989’?”
“Redemption for Drew!” Jennings said as the audience began cheering. “And the crowd goes wild.”
In a recent episode of Jeopardy, contestant and self-proclaimed Céline Dion superfan Drew Goins missed a question about the iconic singer. The question, which asked for the title of Céline Dion’s Grammy-winning hit song from the Titanic soundtrack, left Goins stumped.Despite his love for Céline Dion and her music, Goins couldn’t come up with the correct answer, “My Heart Will Go On.” The moment left viewers surprised and amused, as Goins had been confidently answering other questions about the singer throughout the episode.
While Goins may have missed this particular question, his passion for Céline Dion remains unwavering. And who knows, maybe he’ll have a chance to redeem himself in a future episode of Jeopardy. Until then, fans can continue to enjoy his enthusiasm and knowledge of all things Céline Dion.
