  • LIVE: Georgia schools closing Wednesday due to winter storm | Full list

School districts across metro Atlanta and South Georgia are continuing to cancel and delay school. Announcements have already been made for Wednesday.

RELATED: Georgia winter weather | Winter Storm Warning issued for metro Atlanta

How cold does it have to be to cancel school?

    By the numbers:

According to Atlanta Public Schools, the following guidelines are used to determine when it becomes too cold to operate in a normal capacity:

    • Over 60 degrees: No limitations
    • Below 60 degrees: A jacket and/or long sleeves recommended
    • Below 50 degrees: A coat and long pants are recommended
    • Below 40 degrees: Gloves and hats, along with the previously mentioned items
    • Below 35 degrees: Indoor recess and PE classes

Children with health conditions, like asthma, may receive special accommodations during cold weather.

Superintendents also take the wind chill and opportunity for frostbite into consideration when deciding whether to cancel school. Unfortunately, there’s no “magic number” on the thermostat to hit.

  • CBS moves up Norah O’Donnell’s last day on ‘Evening News’ due to golf

First on NewscastStudio: CBS News has moved up Norah O’Donnell’s last day on the “CBS Evening News” due to golf coverage.

Originally, O’Donnell’s last day on the “Evening News” was slated for Jan. 24, 2025. However, due to CBS coverage of the Farmers Insurance Open, the newscast will not air nationally Jan. 24, so the network has moved up her final broadcast to Jan. 23, 2025, a network spokesperson confirmed to NewscastStudio.

O’Donnell has anchored the broadcast since 2019. In July 2024, the network announced she would step down from anchor as the broadcast in 2025 and shift to becoming a correspondent for the network.

The network is planning to re-launch the broadcast Jan. 27, 2025, with an ensemble format featuring John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois along with Margaret Brennan anchoring political news coverage from Washington, D.C. As part of the overhaul, the broadcast will move its production operations back to New York City.

CBS had opted to move the permanent studio for “Evening” to Washington, D.C., when O’Donnell became anchor. O’Donnell’s family lives in the Washington, D.C., area.

CBS has announced that Norah O’Donnell’s last day as anchor of the “CBS Evening News” has been moved up due to the network’s coverage of the PGA Championship golf tournament. O’Donnell was initially set to anchor her final broadcast on Friday, but will now be signing off on Thursday instead.

The decision to move up O’Donnell’s departure date was made in order to accommodate CBS’s live coverage of the golf tournament, which is scheduled to air on Friday evening. O’Donnell has been the anchor of the “CBS Evening News” since July 2019, and has been praised for her journalistic integrity and hard-hitting interviews.

While fans of O’Donnell may be disappointed to see her leave the anchor chair earlier than expected, they can still catch her in her new role as a correspondent for “60 Minutes.” O’Donnell will continue to bring her signature style of reporting to the long-running news program, ensuring that viewers will still have the opportunity to see her in action.

As O’Donnell prepares to bid farewell to the “CBS Evening News,” fans can tune in on Thursday to watch her final broadcast and wish her well in her future endeavors. We wish Norah O’Donnell the best of luck in her new role and look forward to seeing her continue to excel in her career.

New Orleans Pelicans game against Milwaukee Bucks postponed due to icy conditions

ABOUT WHAT’S HAPPENING AND WHY THIS DECISION WAS MADE. FLETCHER. YEAH, GOOD. GOOD MORNING. SORRY IT’S NOT AFTERNOON YET. GOOD MORNING. TRAVERS IN MORGAN. WE MADE IT HERE BECAUSE THE STATION IS LESS THAN TEN MINUTES AWAY. BUT YOU’RE RIGHT, IT IS ICY. THE PELICANS GAME AGAINST THE MILWAUKEE BUCKS TONIGHT. AS YOU ALL SAID EARLIER DURING THE BREAKING NEWS POSTPONED NO MAKEUP DATE HAS BEEN SET. THE NBA IS A LONG SEASON THAT DOESN’T END UNTIL THE SECOND WEEK OF APRIL, SO PLENTY OF TIME TO MAKE THAT GAME UP. AS YOU ALL SAID, THIS WAS THE SMART DECISION. IT’S NOT ABOUT PLAYER SAFETY. THERE’S HUNDREDS OF SUPPORT PERSONNEL THAT MAKE THESE GAMES HAPPEN. FANS GETTING HERE AGAIN, THIS ISN’T WHAT WE DEAL WITH HERE. SO PEOPLE ON THE STREETS TODAY, IT’S A LITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE. SO IT WAS THE RIGHT DECISION BY THE LEAGUE. LET ME JUST LAY GIVE YOU A LAY OF THE LAND. SET THE SCENE FOR YOU. WE’RE GOING TO PAN TO OUR RIGHT. THIS IS CHAMPION SQUARE RIGHT WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW. AND YOU CAN SEE THERE’S ACTUALLY WORKERS WORKING IN CHAMPION SQUARE BECAUSE THE SUPER BOWL WORK IS ONGOING. THERE’S PEOPLE HERE BUILDING THE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE BIG GAME, WHICH IS NOW JUST OVER TWO WEEKS AWAY. BUT CHAMPION SQUARE HASN’T BEEN PLOWED. WHAT YOU SEE RIGHT THERE IS JUST FROM TRAFFIC DRIVING THROUGH ALSO TO THE THE RAMPS FOR THE SMOOTHIE KING CENTER ARE ABOUT EIGHT INCHES DEEP OF SNOW. YOU CAN SEE THE STAIRCASE THAT LAWRENCE IS GOING TO ZOOM IN ON REALIZES THAT THAT’S HOW WORKERS AND FANS GET IN. I WALKED UP THOSE STEPS AND ALMOST HAD, YOU KNOW, A FALL BECAUSE IT IS A LITTLE TREACHEROUS. IT’S FRESH POWDER, SO TO SAY, AND IT’S ABOUT 6 OR 8IN DEEP. AND THEN HERE, LOOK, IF IF LAWRENCE WILL COME OVER TO HIS LEFT, YOU CAN SEE, I MEAN, LOOK, THE STREETS WE’RE ON DRIED. IT HASN’T BEEN PLOWED YET, SO THERE’S THERE’S FRESH SNOW AND AND IT’S MOSTLY TURNING TO ICE IN SOME AREAS, LIKE YOU ALL SAID. SO IT WAS DEFINITELY THE RIGHT DECISION TO CANCEL THE GAME HERE BECAUSE YEAH, THIS IS REALLY, REALLY SLICK ICE RIGHT NOW. AND IT GOES LIKE THAT ALL THE WAY UNTIL YOU GET TO LOYOLA. SO YES. SO THE PELICANS GAME HAS BEEN POSTPONED. ALSO ONE MORE SPORTS UPDATE. THE LSU GAME IN SOUTH CAROLINA SET FOR THURSDAY NIGHT HAS BEEN MOVED TO FRIDAY AFTERNOON BECAUSE THE LSU TIGERS ARE PROBABLY GOING TO HAVE PROBLEMS GETTING OUT TODAY. SO IT GIVES THEM SOME TIME. THEY CAN NOW TRAVEL TOMORROW, PLAY ON FRIDAY. SO THE PELICANS AND THE LSU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM BOTH GAMES POSTPONED BECAUSE OF THE BAYOU BLIZZARD. THE THE WINTER EXTREME WEATHER THAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING RIGHT NOW. TRAVIS AND MORGAN, BACK TO YOU. ALL RIGH

Wednesday’s game between the New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks at Smoothie King Center has been postponed, the NBA announced.

The game will be rescheduled at a later date.

An historic Gulf Coast winter storm hit the area on Tuesday causing record-breaking snowfall and extremely cold conditions. Nine fatalities have been reported. New Orleans received eight inches of snow, breaking the record set in 1963 of 2.7 inches.

This is the second NBA game this month that had to be postponed due to extreme winter conditions. The Rockets-Hawks game on Jan. 11 was called off due to weather in the Atlanta area.

Both the Pelicans and Bucks entered Wednesday on four-game winning streaks, but in very different places in the NBA standings as we approach the Feb. 6 trade deadline. New Orleans is 12-32 and 14th in the Western Conference, while Milwaukee sits fourth in the East at 24-17.

Winter Storm Enzo isn’t just affecting the NBA.

A big matchup in women’s college basketball has been moved back a day due to the Gulf Coast storm. The No. 2 South Carolina Gamecocks were set to host No. 5 LSU on Thursday, but due to travel issues for the Tigers the game will now tip off Friday night at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, S.C.

LSU’s home game Sunday afternoon against Texas A&M remains on, according to the school.

Due to Winter Storm Enzo wreaking havoc in the South, the NBA game between the Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans has been postponed. Additionally, the college basketball game between LSU and South Carolina has been rescheduled to Friday to ensure the safety of players and fans. Stay safe and warm during this winter storm! #WinterStormEnzo #PostponedGames #SafetyFirst.
