  • Key Dates, School Timings, and Eid Holiday

When does Ramadan 2025 start in the UAE? How does this affect your child’s school timings? And when is the Eid public holiday?

Here’s everything you need to know about the Ramadan dates in 2025 in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the other emirates – and how it will affect your child’s school.

Ramadan 2025 is fast approaching, as we are now less than two months away from the start of the Holy Month in the UAE.

When does Ramadan start in 2025?

Ramadan begins 10–12 days earlier each year. The UAE government has not yet announced the official start date for Ramadan 2025. However, it is expected to begin on the last day of February/ first day of March this year. This is dependent on the sighting of a crescent moon.

This means that many private schools will be open for 15 days during Ramadan. In 2024, schools were only open for eight days during Ramadan, due to the term ending on Friday, March 22.

Ramadan is expected to end on March 31, 2025.

What are the school timings during Ramadan 2025 in the UAE?

During Ramadan, schools have shorter hours and working hours are reduced. School Ramadan timings have not yet been announced but many schools open from 8am to 1pm or 9am to 2pm.

The school hours for 2025 have not yet been announced. However, many schools in the UAE are currently surveying parents to gather their preferences for Ramadan timings.

Are there any changes to lessons during Ramadan?

In previous years, schools have been directed to ensure that fasting students are exempt from participating in PE classes if requested, and that homework and revision expectations are lowered during this time.

When is the Eid 2025 break?

The end of Ramadan is marked by Eid Al Fitr.

Based on the lunar sighting and the end of Ramadan, there could be a four-day holiday for both public and private sector employees to celebrate Eid Al Fitr in March-April.

Eid Al Fitr is expected to run from Monday, March 31 2025 to Thursday, April 3, meaning that school and work will resume on Friday,  April 4.

Schools are expected to close on these days, although parents are advised to await official announcements from education authorities for confirmation.

The above dates are subject to change based on official announcements and moon sightings.
