Insiders Allege That Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi’s UK Move Had Everything to Do With Their Marriage
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi‘s sudden move to the UK shocked everyone, to sum it up. Both pals and fans were confused by the sudden move after they worked so hard on their Montecito mansion, but the pair seemingly left after President-elect Donald Trump was re-elected (and after DeGeneres said goodbye to the spotlight). However, both insiders and pals are alleging that their move had nothing to do with that, and everything to do with their marriage.
“Ellen’s decision to move to England is baffling if you just look at it as a reaction to the election or the shifting culture in the U.S., but it makes perfect sense when you look at the arc of her relationship with Portia,” the inside source alleged to InTouch Weekly, claiming that “getting out of Southern California only increases the incredible control Ellen has had over Portia for years, and Ellen clearly had a reason to want to increase that level of control.”

“What’s utterly bizarre about all this is that they’re both willing to sell their Montecito estate, which they’ve both put thousands of hours into and which was the major collaborative creative project of their marriage,” a friend of the pair said to the outlet. “There has to be a real darkness at work in the relationship for them to give up on that home and move somewhere else, especially at a time when Portia is still very viable as an actress.”
They scathingly added, “I don’t see this new arrangement working out in the long term and it looks a lot more like a last resort than a fresh start.”
Now, we don’t know the inner workings of their marriage, but this isn’t the first time pals have said things aren’t great for the pair. Earlier this year, sources claimed to InTouch Weekly that their marriage was “in terrible shape” after the special did nothing to help DeGeneres, and how they were trying a lot of practices to fix their bond.

For those who don’t know, DeGeneres and Rossie met back in 2001 at a Rock the Vote concert. However, they didn’t get together until 2004. When they reconnected in 2004, DeGeneres was with photographer Alexandra Hedison and de Rossi was with singer Francesca Gregorini. However, after they split with their respective partners, they started dating.
They later got engaged, and married in Aug 2008, at their home in Beverly Hills, California; and have been together ever since. And now, they reside in the UK.
