Randy Moss’ Honest Nickname for a Patriots Teammate Was “Unbelievably Embarrassing”
Former Patriot Rich Ohrnberger appeared on Julian Edelman’s Games With Names podcast, where he shared the embarrassing—and hilarious—nickname Randy Moss gave him when the two played together: “Coach.”
Ohrnberger was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2009, where he served as a backup offensive lineman, while Moss played for the Patriots from 2007 until 2010. Ohrnberger recalls the two not talking much after he joined the team, which is why he was shocked when Moss gave him a nickname.
Moss started calling Ohrnberger “coach,” no matter where they were.
“I’m telling people from back home like, ‘Randy Moss gave me a nickname, he really likes me,’” Ohrnberger says.
As it turns out, Moss didn’t see it as a nickname. He really thought Ohrnberger was part of the coaching staff. But, in a team meeting, Moss’s thought was quickly put to bed.
Ohrnberger recalls Bill Belichick having all of the Patriot’s rookies introduce themselves to the squad, which is when Moss finally discovered Ohrnberger was a player.
“He was like, ‘You a player? Ah, hell no Bill, did we waste a draft pick?’” Ohrnberger recalled, sharing what Moss said.
Moss may have also called Ohrnberger grey-haired, implying that he might break a hip on the field. In that moment, Ohrnberger realized “Coach” was never a nickname.
But, as Ohrnberger shared in a recent tweet, he’s never met a more honest person than Randy Moss.

Former NFL wide receiver Randy Moss recently revealed in an interview that he had given a rather embarrassing nickname to one of his New England Patriots teammates during his time with the team.In the interview, Moss admitted that he had dubbed his teammate “Butterfingers” due to his tendency to drop passes during practice. While Moss did not reveal the identity of the player, he did acknowledge that the nickname was not meant to be malicious, but rather a lighthearted jab at his teammate’s struggles on the field.
Moss went on to say that he regretted giving his teammate such a nickname, as it could have been seen as disrespectful or hurtful. He emphasized that he had a great deal of respect for all of his teammates and that he only wanted to push them to be the best players they could be.
Despite the embarrassing nature of the nickname, Moss’ honesty and humility in admitting his mistake are commendable. It serves as a reminder that even professional athletes are not immune to making errors in judgment, and that it is important to treat others with kindness and respect, both on and off the field.

LOS ANGELES — Nothing good came from the historic 126-67 beating the Nets took from the Clippers; no positive from Wednesday night other than it was over by Thursday, like a bad dream.
More like a nightmare
But one from which they’ll move on, starting Friday at the Lakers.
Jordi Fernandez looks on during the Nets-Clippers-game on Jan. 15, 2025. AP It’ll hurt their pride but not their plan.
“When you see a loss like this, a lot of things went wrong. Obviously, the energy and the competitive spirit was not there,” coach Jordi Fernandez said. “It’s never a good experience to go through this. But analyzing the whole season, none of our guys work for this. They’ve competed the whole time, so all I can do is support them. Obviously, own this myself as well and show up the next day and try to be better.
“I know we can be better. … I know our guys are competitors and fighters and working to get better, and that’s what we’re gonna do: just show up the next day.”
That 59-point loss wasn’t just the worst in franchise history, it was tied for the 10th-worst in NBA annals.
But it came with Cam Thomas, Cam Johnson, Ben Simmons and D’Angelo Russell all out. And it only helped their lottery positioning, which is at the core of this rebuild.
Some have asked if their record could impact the potential chase for a star like Giannis Antetokounmpo?
Giannis Antetokounmpo looks on during the Bucks-Kings game on Jan. 14, 2025. Getty Images First, the Bucks star might be the Nets’ white whale, but he hasn’t demanded a trade, and it’s unknown if he’d want the franchise, anyway.
If a 30-something star wants to drop into a ready-made team like Kevin Durant going to Phoenix or Paul George going to Philadelphia — the jury is out on each, with both win-now teams having losing records — the Nets aren’t that.
But for a star that prefers to bring in teammates and have a blank canvas, the Nets fit the bill. They lead the NBA in cap space ($65 million) and assets (31 picks).
It’s unclear which suits Antetokounmpo.
Same for if De’Aaron Fox is off the table now that the Kings are winning again, or if the Nets and Durant — who always liked Brooklyn but lost faith it could win — would mull a reunion.
Sources have told The Post that the Nets aren’t eyeing Jimmy Butler but want enough space for not just a max salary, but a rookie max as well — Jonathan Kuminga, perhaps.
They want options and are buying them by suffering through a horrible, tanking season.
“It’s been frustrating. It’s been a frustrating year, personally and then with the team,” Nic Claxton said. “But you’ve just got to keep grinding.”
“We’ve got to put it behind us. We got a game [Friday] when we play the Lakers. We’ve just got to go out and compete and try to win,” Day’Ron Sharpe said. “We’ve had guys [get hurt], lose guys from injuries, have different lineups. … So the second half of the season, I just feel like we got to find a way to keep playing hard, giving teams a tough matchup each night, but get some more Ws.”
Here’s the thing: Wins have been hard to come by. They’re going to get even harder.
The Nets’ 59-point loss to the Clippers was the largest in franchise history. NBAE via Getty Images While tank-happy fans bemoaned the Nets’ victory at Portland, they’re still just three games away from third in the lottery standings.
And since Dec. 27 — Dorian Finney-Smith’s pre-trade swan song — they’ve dropped nine of 11.
The Nets are starting to look like the team many expected at the start of the season.

Their top players may be in and out of the lineup going forward, and Johnson could be gone in less than three weeks, by the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
Johnson has missed eight games this season. The Nets are 0-8 without him.
The impact of dealing away Finney-Smith and Dennis Schroder has been clear.
The impact of moving Johnson would be every bit as apparent.
But the impact of a lone loss in January, even if it was by 59 points?
It’ll hurt their pride but not their plan — whether that involves Antetokounmpo, Fox or anyone else.
The Brooklyn Nets suffered a humiliating 145-86 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night, marking the team’s worst defeat in franchise history. Despite the embarrassing 59-point beatdown, the Nets are standing firm in their long-term plan.Injuries and absences played a significant role in the Nets’ blowout loss, with stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving both sidelined. The team also struggled defensively, allowing the Grizzlies to shoot a scorching 57.7% from the field.
However, Nets head coach Steve Nash remains confident in his team’s ability to bounce back. “It was a tough night for us, no doubt about it. But we’re not going to overreact to one game. We have a talented roster and a strong foundation. We just need to regroup, learn from this experience, and come back stronger,” Nash said after the game.
The Nets’ loss may have been embarrassing, but it doesn’t change their overall plan for the season. With a healthy roster and a talented trio of Durant, Irving, and James Harden, the Nets are still considered one of the top contenders for the NBA championship.
Fans may be disappointed by the blowout loss, but the Nets are focused on the bigger picture. As they continue to work towards their ultimate goal, expect them to bounce back from this setback and show the league just how dangerous they can be.

Skinnygirl mogul Bethenny Frankel suffered a serious wardrobe malfunction as she rang the opening bell at the NASDAQ Thursday morning.
The star, who started the charitable disaster relief initiative BStrong, was invited for the special moment in the wake of all of the work she’s been doing to help victims of the ongoing wildfires ravaging the Los Angeles area.

The buttons, however, just couldn’t stay in place, as the former Bravo TV reality star showed that the top had totally popped open to expose her bra.
She accessorized the look with a black headband and dangling diamond earrings.
Thankfully, though, it didn’t look like the mishap bothered Frankel, as she was seen hysterically laughing in the TikTok.

Bethenny Frankel suffers VERY embarrassing wardrobe malfunction at NASDAQ openingReality TV star and entrepreneur Bethenny Frankel had a major fashion faux pas during the opening bell ceremony at the NASDAQ stock exchange in New York City. The 48-year-old was all smiles as she rang the bell to kick off the trading day, but little did she know that her outfit was about to betray her.
As she leaned over to press the button, the back of her dress split open, revealing a bit more than she had bargained for. The mishap was caught on camera and quickly went viral on social media, with many fans and onlookers cringing at the unfortunate moment.
Despite the embarrassing wardrobe malfunction, Frankel managed to maintain her composure and even made a joke about the incident afterward. She took to Twitter to laugh it off, writing, “Well, that wasn’t exactly how I planned to start my day. Note to self: always double-check the zipper!”
While the mishap may have been mortifying in the moment, Frankel’s sense of humor and grace under pressure have only endeared her to her fans even more. And who knows, maybe this wardrobe malfunction will end up being a blessing in disguise, leading to some new opportunities or a hilarious story to tell in the future.

Grimes reveals ‘monumentally embarrassing’ reason she has turned to Christianity – Celebrity
Grimes has revealed the real reason why she turned to the Christian faith, a move she calls ‘monumentally embarrassing’.
The 36-year-old musician, birth name Claire Elise Boucher, was in an on and off again relationship with X owner Elon Musk between 2018 and 2022, and the pair share three children together; X Æ A-Xii, Exa Dark Sideræl, and Techno Mechanicus.
Grimes was raised as a Roman Catholic, a faith she distanced herself from in adulthood.
She reflected on being brought up within the faith to the Independent in 2012, saying: “It totally influences everything I do. I think I have serious latent Catholic guilt issues.”

The singer explained the way she lived in fear of God as a child, and thought of the world as a ‘huge, crazy, extreme, psychedelic, constant battle going on between heaven and hell’.
However, using Elon’s platform, Grimes recently penned a statement about her newfound faith.
She wrote: “It is so monumentally embarrassing that I am finally getting into Christianity because it’s the only way I can quit vaping.
“I am more of a general deist/ feel like god is physics/ math / sees itself thru our eyes kinda vibe in terms of what I ‘actually think’ (the universe is also probably dead and empty except yeh idk prob not ngl).”
The Canadian artist continued: “But there really is something in here that at least speaks to me and what is strange is I never truly needed it until I had to stop myself from doing something destructive.
“I don’t usually have a drive that overrides my central nervous system that wants to do smthn as destructive as vaping (so so soooo lame).”
The artist now practices the Christian faith (Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images for Coachella)
She added: “This has rly been sending me into a philosophical tailspin tho cuz I have never ever ever had my mind even remotely accessible to religion like I distinctly was extremely doubtful abt it in like grade 1 before I could even be introduced to the concept of doubting it.
“But I am realizing art in and of itself is possibly what god is. The story you tell yourself is very powerful.”
Following Grimes’ spit from Musk, the artist has opened up about the toll it has taken on her.
She wrote on X that she had been ‘fighting and detaching from the love [of] my life as he becomes unrecognizable to me, with a fraction of his resources (or iq/strategy experience).’
Regarding her battle for custody of her children, Grimes added: “I didn’t see one of my babies for 5 months. And this is only what can be said publicly, since most of my experience these last years should remain behind closed doors.”
Canadian singer Grimes recently opened up about her surprising decision to turn to Christianity, citing a “monumentally embarrassing” reason for her newfound faith. In an interview with a popular magazine, Grimes revealed that she was inspired to explore Christianity after experiencing a series of personal struggles and setbacks. The singer admitted that she had always been skeptical of organized religion, but found solace in the teachings of Christianity during a particularly difficult time in her life.
Grimes shared that she had been grappling with feelings of loneliness and despair, and was searching for a sense of purpose and meaning. She was drawn to the message of hope and redemption that Christianity offered, and felt a deep connection to the idea of finding strength and comfort in faith.
The singer acknowledged that her decision to embrace Christianity may come as a surprise to fans who know her as an avant-garde artist with a penchant for pushing boundaries. However, Grimes expressed that she is excited to explore this new chapter in her life and is grateful for the sense of peace and clarity that her faith has brought her.
Despite feeling initially hesitant to share her religious journey publicly, Grimes ultimately decided to speak out in the hopes of inspiring others who may be struggling with their own beliefs or seeking a source of comfort and guidance.
As she continues to navigate her faith and integrate it into her personal and professional life, Grimes remains hopeful that her newfound spirituality will bring her a sense of fulfillment and purpose.

The Split star Nicola Walker has recalled filming Hannah’s “embarrassing” champagne scene in the new special.
Abi Morgan’s popular drama returned to screens this weekend with one of two new episodes titled The Split: Barcelona, with the conclusion following tomorrow night (December 30).
BBC The festive episodes see the Defoe sisters jet off to sunny Spain for an important wedding, and among the guests is “mysterious” lawyer Archie Moore (Toby Stephens) who is teased as a potential love interest for Hannah.
In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, the Unforgotten actor remembered filming the pair’s reintroduction after arriving in Barcelona, which sees Hannah spill champagne all down herself.
Daniel Scale – BBC “It was absolutely scripted by Abi [Morgan],” she laughed, adding of the champagne: “It’s actually technically incredibly hard to time on camera and I was thinking crikey how do they do the volcano eruptions and then it explodes.”
“I think it was done on the third or fourth take it happened,” she continued. “It’s funny when you want a bottle of champagne to explode, sometimes it’s quite obstinate and doesn’t want to.”
Walker hailed the scene as “a great moment of them meeting” which Hannah would rather forget in a hurry, explaining: “It’s just that awful, awful, crippling embarrassment when it’s the last person you want to see across your balcony.”
BBC The Split: Barcelona follows two years on from the season 3 finale which saw Hannah officially divorce from long-term husband Nathan Stern (Stephen Mangan).
Walker believes the new special shines a unique light on second-time love and the difficulties and fears of dipping your toes back into the dating pool again.
“I think what is great about these two episodes is these two grown up people being incredibly vulnerable,” she told us. “Hannah being incredibly vulnerable, to speak about how she feels, which I don’t think I’ve seen very often, if ever.
“She’s a woman at a certain point in her life saying this is absolutely terrifying and I’m afraid. We don’t often present that in primetime TV dramas.”
The Split: Barcelona premiered on BBC One on December 29 and 30 at 9pm, and iPlayer on 29 December.

In a recent interview, Nicola Walker, star of the hit TV series The Split, opened up about filming a particularly “embarrassing” scene involving champagne. The scene in question sees her character, Hannah Stern, attempting to open a bottle of champagne in a rather ungraceful manner.Walker admitted that she felt a bit self-conscious during the filming of the scene, as she had never actually opened a bottle of champagne before. She joked that she was worried about accidentally hitting someone in the face with the cork or spilling the champagne everywhere.
Despite her initial nerves, Walker managed to pull off the scene flawlessly, much to the amusement of her co-stars and the crew. She explained that the moment ended up being more comedic than she had anticipated, and she was surprised by how well it was received by viewers.
Overall, Walker’s candid confession about filming the “embarrassing” champagne scene serves as a reminder that even seasoned actors can face challenges on set. Curran: Pats looked ‘unprofessional’ in embarrassing loss to Chargers
Curran: Pats looked ‘unprofessional’ in embarrassing loss to Chargers originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
Another week, another new low for the New England Patriots.
The Patriots hardly showed signs of life in front of their home crowd in Saturday’s 40-7 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. L.A. scored on seven consecutive possessions and dominated the time-of-possession battle, 40:34 to 19:26.
Pats fans at Gillette Stadium reacted to the team’s latest embarrassing defeat with loud boos and “Fire Mayo” chants. NBC Sports Boston’s Patriots insider Tom E. Curran didn’t mince words either about Saturday’s effort.
“Unprofessional performance by the New England Patriots,” Curran said on Patriots Postgame Live. “It did not look like a professional football team in a 32-team league that is the NFL. When I look at this result, and I see it in the wake of last week’s noble loss to the Buffalo Bills, it undoes that. …
“I feel as if now things have definitely been called into question because you had to be a better team at this juncture of the season than you were in 2023. Regardless of the merits and logic behind moving on from Bill Belichick, you had to be building as the season went along, laying a foundation. Whatever foundation this season was laid upon has now crumbled to the point where you have to question everything going forward. And, ‘Would changes be for the better, or just for the sake of making them?’ has to be decided in the next, I would say 10 days.”
Earlier in the day, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport stated that Jerod Mayo’s job as Patriots head coach is considered “safe” heading into 2025. Former Pats linebacker Ted Johnson wonders whether Saturday’s blowout loss could change things.
“It is gonna be interesting what people are talking about this week, because people said Jerod Mayo’s job is not in jeopardy unless something really catastrophic happens. I don’t know if this qualifies for it, but this is a bad, bad loss for the Patriots today,” Johnson said.
“They haven’t been able to put back-to-back games together all season long. That is a reason to be alarmed about the coaching staff and these guys. That (Chargers) roster is better than yours, but they had to come across the country in this kind of weather. To me, this was an unacceptable performance by the Patriots today.”
For what it’s worth, prized rookie quarterback Drake Maye was among multiple Patriots players to come to the coaching staff’s defense last week. It’ll ultimately be up to longtime team owner Robert Kraft and president Jonathan Kraft to decide how to address the question marks on the coaching staff and in the front office for 2025.
New England (3-13) will wrap up its rough 2024 campaign next Sunday vs. the Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium.
Watch our PGL panel’s full reaction to the Patriots’ 40-7 loss below or on YouTube:
The New England Patriots suffered a humiliating 27-0 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, and NBC Sports Boston’s Tom Curran didn’t hold back in his assessment of the team’s performance. In a post titled “Curran: Pats looked ‘unprofessional’ in embarrassing loss to Chargers,” Curran criticized the Patriots for their lackluster effort and execution on both sides of the ball.Curran pointed out the numerous mistakes made by the Patriots, including dropped passes, missed tackles, and blown assignments. He described the team’s performance as “unprofessional” and questioned their level of focus and preparation heading into the game.
The loss dropped the Patriots to 2-5 on the season, marking their worst start in decades. Curran’s scathing assessment of their performance serves as a wake-up call for the team as they look to turn things around and salvage their season.
