  • This Hornets-Pistons trade would be homecoming for embattled forward

The Charlotte Hornets faced a key decision last summer when Miles Bridges entered free agency. While he had a productive tenure with the team at that point, his off-court issues didn’t do him any favors with many Hornets fans.

So polarizing was Bridges’ reputation with the squad’s supporters that they implored the front office to refrain from offering him a deal, even if it meant losing him for nothing. Evidently, Charlotte had no intention of letting him walk during the offseason.

However, what piqued some folks was that the organization gave the embattled forward a generous three-year, $75 million contract despite the apparent absence of other suitors. Only time will tell if Bridges can earn his keep, but the early returns have not looked promising.

    The trade

It’s unclear what the Hornets’ game plan is during the trade season. It stands to reason that the only untouchables are LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Mark Williams. A case can be made that Tidjane Salaun should be included in the list, considering that he is the franchise’s latest lottery pick.

As for Bridges, his spot on the roster is anything but safe, especially now that he is not bound by a trade restriction anymore.

Several teams could have a use for the 26-year-old veteran, including probably the Detroit Pistons. Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report believes Charlotte should propose a trade with its conference rival and ask for Isaiah Stewart, Tim Hardaway Jr., and a 2025 second-round pick via the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Bridges.

The Pistons have been one of the league’s surprises this season, running to a 21-19 record. They might need some help on offense down the stretch because starting shooting guard Jaden Ivey could miss the rest of the season because of a broken fibula. In Swartz’s trade scenario, Bridges would return home to Michigan and likely take over Hardaway Jr.’s starting spot to give the squad another potent scorer.

    The grade

Charlotte probably won’t like the idea of surrendering its third-leading scorer without landing a first-round pick (although the second-round selection in the trade idea is slated to be the 33rd overall) or multiple second-rounders.

To be fair to Stewart, though, he would be an intriguing addition for the Hornets. He could bring the toughness and defense that have been sorely lacking in Buzz City in recent weeks.
And maybe acquiring “Beef Stew” would make it easier for the top brass to finally trade Nick Richards. On the flip side, his limited skills wouldn’t be able to lift the team’s bottom-ranked offense and could give Ball and Miller less room to operate with the ball.

Meanwhile, Hardaway Jr. could be the solution to the Hornets’ lack of reliable bench scorers stemming from Tre Mann’s prolonged stint on the sidelines. However, the journeyman’s streakiness could prove to be more detrimental to the squad than helpful. The good news is that he will be a free agent in the offseason, so Charlotte could just let him walk if he doesn’t play up to par.

Perhaps the only way the Hornets would even consider going through with such a trade proposal is if they also have other moves planned to address their other major weaknesses.

The Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons are reportedly discussing a potential trade that would bring an embattled forward back to his former team. This trade would not only be a homecoming for the player, but it could also provide a fresh start and new opportunities for both teams involved.

The player in question is none other than Blake Griffin, who began his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers before being traded to the Pistons in 2018. Griffin has faced his fair share of challenges in Detroit, including injuries and a decline in his performance.

However, a return to Charlotte, where Griffin played college basketball at the University of Oklahoma, could reignite his career and provide a much-needed boost for the Hornets. In exchange, the Pistons would likely receive a package of players and draft picks to help them rebuild and move forward.

While the trade has not been finalized yet, it is certainly an intriguing possibility that could shake up the Eastern Conference. Stay tuned for updates on this potential homecoming for Blake Griffin and the impact it could have on both the Hornets and Pistons.

  • Trump heaps scorn on embattled ABC News star David Muir ahead of his inauguration

Donald Trump took aim at ABC News’ embattled star David Muir again over the journalist’s fact-checking during the presidential debate.

Speaking on the eve of his inauguration, the president-elect called out Muir after he contradicted Trump’s claim that violent crime has risen.

‘Do you remember I did the debate, and I had David Muir from ABC saying, “No, no crime has gone down”,’ Trump said of the September debate.

‘I said, “No, no, it’s gone through the roof.” Crime has gone through the roof. David [said] “no, no crime has gone down”. I said, “it’s gone through the roof”. And then he goes, “Uh, I disagree with that.”

‘The next day they announced that crime was up like 40 percent. This guy is, the whole thing is so bad.’

A revision of FBI figures the following month revealed that there was a 4.5 percent increase in violent crime between 2021 and 2022, equivalent to around 80,029 incidents, Fox reports.

‘President Trump, as you know, the FBI says overall violent crime is coming down in this country,’ Muir said at the time.

But yesterday the president-elect, who is due to be sworn in later today, hit back again.

‘The FBI, they were defrauding statements,’ Trump said. ‘They didn’t include the worst cities. They didn’t include the cities with the worst crime. It was a fraud.’

Muir was a co-moderator of the debate alongside Linsey Davis.

Both were criticized by Trump immediately after the showdown against Kamala Harris after the president-elect claimed it was ‘one against three’.

‘David Muir of ABC, fake news, when I said that crime is way up in our country, he corrected me, he corrected me and so much and it was right what I said,’ Trump fumed.

‘He didn’t correct [Harris] one time, and what she said was wrong, absolutely wrong.

‘So many different— Charlottesville, she was wrong, all of the different things, almost everything she said, and she was never corrected.’

Muir, 53, recently hit headlines for an embarrassing gaffe while covering the California wildfires earlier this month.

The anchor was criticized for using pegs to cinch in the waist of a fire retardant jacket as he reported from the fire-ravaged landscape.

Muir – known for posting photos of himself in skintight black t-shirts – was accused of cinching in his jacket to show off his impressive physique.

However, insiders at the network claimed that the ‘narcissistic’ behavior is typical behavior from Muir.

He is said to be embroiled in a long-term feud with fellow ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos.

The two newsmen have been known to have tension and now are barely seen on screen together as a result, as revealed by Oliver Darcy in a holiday edition of the Status newsletter.

‘There certainly has been historic tension — to put it lightly — between the two anchors,’ Darcy wrote in response to a question about the dynamic between Muir and Stephanopoulos.

Stephanopoulos brought scandal to ABC News just last month when the network was forced to pay $15 million to settle a defamation suit filed by Donald Trump.

While hosting This Week last March, Stephanpoulos said Trump had been ‘found liable for rape’ in a civil lawsuit brought by writer E. Jean Carroll.

A jury had actually found Trump liable for the sexual abuse of Carroll over a 1996 incident in a dressing room of NYC department store Bergdorf Goodman.

Insiders at ABC News are said to have settled amid fears Stephanopoulos’ embarrassing text messages and emails would be made public should the matter go to trial.

He remains employed by the network.

In a recent Twitter tirade, President-elect Donald Trump has taken aim at ABC News anchor David Muir, criticizing his reporting and questioning his credibility.

Trump’s attacks come just days before his upcoming inauguration, and are seen as a direct response to Muir’s coverage of the transition process. The President-elect has accused Muir of spreading “fake news” and being biased against him, despite ABC News’ reputation for fair and balanced reporting.

Many believe that Trump’s attacks on Muir are an attempt to discredit the media and undermine their role as watchdogs of government. As the new administration prepares to take office, it remains to be seen how Trump’s contentious relationship with the press will impact his presidency.
