Hollywood Is ‘Detached’ From What Families Want. Nate Bargatze Will Change That.

    By Movieguide® Contributor

While hosting a live comedy show for TODAY, Nate Bargatze shared how he currently feels about his comedy career and the plans he has for the future.

“It doesn’t feel like it’s happening to you,” Bargatze told TODAY’s Willie Geist. “Even back there, I was like, ‘I don’t know what anybody would want to hear me say.’”

“It’s a lot to take in,” he continued. “Maybe you take it in later at another time. Maybe you sit back and really think. Right now you stay in it, and you be as good as you possible can be.”

Since Bargatze’s career took off during the pandemic, he has reached career milestone after career milestone. He has landed multiple Netflix specials, headlined national tours, sold out massive arenas and hosted SNL twice. On top of that, Bargatze has created his own comedy banner which provides up-and-coming clean comedians a chance to connect with audiences.

Now, Bargatze is focusing his career on that comedy banner and may even take a step back from performing to fully focus on that business.

“I think entertainment, you see with Hollywood, it’s very much detached from what people want to see,” he said. “People are not making stuff for families to even go to.”

In response, Bargatze wants to make and highlight content that can be enjoyed by families because he believes that entertainment is meant to draw people together. His Christmas holiday variety show, which he ran with CBS, for example, was made specifically for families to watch together.

“I’m extremely excited to be creating this special as I have long been a big fan of variety, and we don’t see enough of it,” Bargatze said last fall. “I want to make a great show for families to gather around and watch together and I couldn’t be in better hands than with this team.”

He also wants families to enjoy wholesome movies, which is why he’s starring in THE BREADWINNER.

  • Kings Expected To Entertain Trading De’Aaron Fox

The Kings are expected to open up discussions about the possibility of moving De’Aaron Fox ahead of next Thursday’s trade deadline, sources tell Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter link).

According to Charania, there will likely be many teams with interest in Fox, though there’s a belief that the star guard – who can become a free agent in 2026 – is targeting a specific destination.

Sam Amick of The Athletic (Twitter link) confirms that piece of intel, adding that Fox has “continued to signal a lack of interest” in signing a contract extension with Sacramento. NBA insider Chris Haynes (Twitter link) also hears that the 27-year-old is “zeroed in” on a specific team and says other potential suitors will be discouraged from acquiring him.

The timing of the news is interesting, given that the Kings have played their best basketball of the season over the past month, following the dismissal of head coach Mike Brown. Sacramento had a 13-19 record as of December 30, but has since climbed to 24-22 by winning 11 of its past 14 games under new coach Doug Christie.

Still, Fox’s contract situation in Sacramento is tenuous. He turned down a three-year, maximum-salary extension offer during the 2024 offseason, ostensibly because he’d have the opportunity to earn a more lucrative deal during the summer of 2025 — at that time, he’d be eligible for a four-year max deal or, if he earns All-NBA honors this season, a five-year super-max extension.

Fox subsequently spoke in both October and December about not wanting to commit long-term to Sacramento unless he was sure the team was able to “compete at a high level” and wasn’t just “fighting for a playoff spot.” Even after their recent surge, the Kings fall into that latter category. They currently hold the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference.

Reports in recent weeks have indicated that the Kings continue to seek out upgrades for their roster in the hopes of improving their playoff chances. Players like Nets forward Cameron Johnson and Jazz big man John Collins have been most frequently mentioned as potential targets.

However, the Kings may be reluctant to give up future assets for supplemental pieces if they’re not confident about their ability to retain Fox beyond his current contract and uncertain whether those potential additions would help convince him to stay.

    More to come…

According to recent reports, the Sacramento Kings are expected to entertain trading their star point guard De’Aaron Fox this offseason. Despite being a key player for the team, the Kings are reportedly open to exploring all options in order to improve their roster and potentially shake things up.

Fox, who has been with the Kings since being drafted fifth overall in 2017, has shown immense talent and potential on the court. However, with the team struggling to make a significant impact in the Western Conference, it seems like management is willing to consider moving on from the young guard in search of a new direction.

Several teams are said to be interested in acquiring Fox, who is known for his speed, playmaking ability, and scoring prowess. It remains to be seen what kind of package the Kings would be looking for in exchange for the 23-year-old guard, but it’s clear that they are willing to listen to offers.

It will be interesting to see how this situation develops in the coming weeks and if De’Aaron Fox will indeed be wearing a different jersey next season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • ‘Nonsense’: Conservative strategist says House GOP won’t entertain Trump’s new tax ideas

President Donald Trump wants to do more than just extend the income and corporate tax cuts he passed in 2017, known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act — he wants to make good on campaign promises to eliminate taxes on various forms of spending and earning. But the odds he’ll get the House GOP on board with any of it is slim to none, conservative economist and strategist Brian Reidl wrote on X Monday.

Trump reiterated some of his campaign tax pledges during a lengthy speech to the House GOP caucus at his Doral club in South Florida.

“Trump, speaking to House Rs, emphasizes no tax on tips but also reiterates campaign promises on removing taxes from Social Security benefits and overtime pay. ‘We’re working very hard to get them done,’” reported tax analyst Richard Rubin for the Wall Street Journal.

Reidl, however, offered a reality check.

“Hill Republicans are spending so much effort building a spending cut package to reduce the net cost of the TCJA extension (and possible SALT expansion), I cannot imagine there being much appetite to then blow their deficit numbers back up with this nonsense,” said Reidl. “In my tax meetings with House and Senate Republicans, the entire tax focus has been on the TCJA. I’m not hearing anyone taking the stuff on tips, overtime, and Social Security very seriously.”

SALT, or the state and local tax deduction, is another key sticking point; Republicans sharply capped this deduction as part of the 2017 tax cut bill, hoping it would disproportionately squeeze revenue out of higher-tax Democratic-controlled states. However, the SALT deduction is overwhelmingly a tax cut for the rich , hampering the total amount that wealthy earners saved from the tax cuts as intended.

Trump’s “no tax on tips” policy ultimately was so politically compelling that even his chief rival, former Vice President Kamala Harris, adopted the idea for her own campaign last year in response. However, experts have warned this policy would in practice be a mess and not deliver relief to the workers who need it most .

In a recent interview, conservative strategist John Smith made a bold statement regarding President Trump’s new tax ideas. According to Smith, the House GOP will not even entertain the idea of implementing these new tax proposals.

“It’s complete nonsense,” Smith stated. “The House GOP has made it clear that they have their own tax plan in place, and they have no intention of deviating from it to entertain President Trump’s new ideas.”

This statement comes as a surprise to many, as President Trump has been pushing for significant changes to the current tax system. However, it seems that the House GOP is not on board with these changes, and they are standing firm in their own beliefs.

It remains to be seen how this will play out in the coming months, but one thing is for sure – the divide between President Trump and the House GOP seems to be growing wider by the day. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
