  • Norah O’Donnell Final ‘CBS Evening News’ Broadcast Set


    UPDATED with date change: Norah O’Donnell’s final night anchoring the CBS Evening News is now January 23, 2025, CBS confirmed Friday.

    O’Donnell, who announced in July that she was exiting the role, was to have had her final show January 24, but because of CBS Sports’ coverage of the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open that day, the CBS Evening News will be a West Coast-only edition.

    The network shifted the date by a day so O’Donnell’s final show can be a full, national broadcast.

    As previously announced, John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois are taking over as lead anchors beginning January 27 as the CBS Evening News returns to New York as its home base after five years Washington, D.C.

    PREVIOUSLY, November 22, 2024: Norah O’Donnell’s final night anchoring the CBS Evening News will be January 24, the CBS network’s news division told its staff Friday, which will bring to an end her five-plus-year run as well as the show’s run in Washington, D.C.

    In July, O’Donnell said she planned to exit the anchor chair after the 2024 election, segueing to a new role as senior correspondent doing high-profile sit-down interviews. Her last day comes four days after Donald Trump’s inauguration for a second POTUS term on January 20.

    The move also ushers in John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois taking over as lead anchors beginning January 27 as the CBS Evening News returns to New York as its home base after five years D.C.

    O’Donnell’s planned exit is part of broader changes being undertaken at the nightly newscast and the news division. CBS Evening News executive producer Adam Verdugo stepped down in early September, with Bill Owens, executive producer of 60 Minutes, adding duties as supervising producer of the nightly news broadcast.

    In addition to the new format, the plans are to infuse the broadcast with more 60 Minutes content and and ensemble of correspondents, who will be filing for the Evening News “when they have big news to break,” wrote Wendy McMahon, CEO of CBS News and Stations, when Dickerson and DuBois were announced. Dickerson and DuBois will be based in New York, with a group that includes Margaret Brennan regularly leading coverage from D.C. and Lonnie Quinn providing weather segments.

    Other changes at CBS News include Adrienne Roark and Jennifer Mitchell taking on expanded roles as part of a new leadership structure. Roark will serve as president of editorial and newsgathering for CBS News and Stations, assuming the responsibilities of Ingrid Ciprián-Matthews, who had stepped down as president of CBS News. Roark will lead field and newsroom and newsgathering teams as well as CBS News Radio.

    O’Donnell’s first show as anchor was on July 15, 2019. Previously, she had been co-anchor of CBS This Morning and, before that, the network’s chief White House correspondent.

    At the time she announced her plans to leave, she said, “It’s time to do something different,” she wrote in a memo to staff. “This presidential election will be my seventh as a journalist, and for many of us in this business we tend to look at our careers in terms of these milestone events.”

    She added that she has “made a long-term commitment to CBS News to continue to do the same storytelling and big interviews that have been our hallmark. I will continue to contribute to Evening News and all of our news broadcasts, including 60 Minutes.”

    HOUSTON – For the second year in a row Dr. Martin Luther King Day will start cold! Last year the parade was postponed. As we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s life and legacy, winds will make it feel like the upper 20s and 30s throughout the Parade route. While it is cold Monday morning, parade-goers miss the winter precipitation. We’ll start tracking the threat of snow and ice Monday evening.

    Both long-range models, the American and European, show an area of low pressure east of South Texas bringing a surge of Gulf moisture into that very cold environment. The cold and moisture will lead to hefty and historic snow accumulations across SE Texas.

    Areas from Harris County on the north and east could receive 4 to 6 inches of snow. As you head southeast into Matagorda, snow totals are closer to an inch.

    It is never too late to prep! Bring in your pets, wrap your plants and pipes. Pipes freeze when temperatures fall to the teens. Right now I’m forecasting mid-20s for Houston Tuesday morning. Cover exposed pipes and drain your sprinkler system. There is no harm in winterizing your system.

    BALTIMORE — Some Maryland school districts canceled after-school activities for Thursday as parts of the state anticipate overnight snowfall and continued freezing temperatures.

    The following schools have canceled all after-school and evening activities on Thursday, Jan. 16: 

    • Baltimore County Public Schools 
    • Cecil County Public Schools 
    • Harford County Public Schools 

    Snow showers expected

    Scattered snow showers are expected across the Baltimore area Thursday evening, according to The First Alert Weather Team. 

    Steady snow could result in a light coating on roadways during the evening commute. By Thursday night, temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-20s. 

    Temperatures are expected to reach the low 40s Friday before another blast of Arctic air returns Sunday. 

    Cold weather persists

    The Baltimore region has experienced frigid temperatures on and off over the past few days. Baltimore City was under a Code Blue Cold Alert that started Tuesday, Jan. 14 and continued through Thursday morning. 

    Maryland has reported 12 cold-related deaths so far this winter, according to health officials. Three of the deaths occurred in Baltimore City and two were in Baltimore County. 

    The region experienced its first major snowstorm of the season on January 6. The storm dumped about 3 to 12 inches of snow across Maryland. BWI Airport measured 6.6 inches of snow, the largest amount since January 2022 when 6.8 inches was reported.



    As winter weather approaches, several schools in Maryland have made the decision to cancel evening activities in order to ensure the safety of students and staff.

    With the possibility of snow and ice in the forecast, school administrators are taking precautions to prevent any potential accidents or hazards. Some of the activities that have been cancelled include sports practices, club meetings, and performances.
