Disaster Recovery Best Practices: Lessons Learned from Real-Life Events
Disasters can strike at any moment, whether it be a natural disaster like a hurricane or earthquake, or a man-made disaster like a cyberattack or data breach. In the face of such events, having a solid disaster recovery plan in place is crucial to ensuring that your organization can quickly recover and resume operations. To help you better prepare for potential disasters, we’ve compiled a list of disaster recovery best practices learned from real-life events:
1. Conduct a risk assessment: Before you can create an effective disaster recovery plan, you must first understand the risks your organization faces. Conduct a thorough risk assessment to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities, and prioritize them based on their likelihood and impact on your business.
2. Develop a comprehensive disaster recovery plan: Once you have identified the risks, it’s time to create a detailed disaster recovery plan. This plan should outline the steps to take in the event of a disaster, including data backup and recovery procedures, communication protocols, and roles and responsibilities of team members.
3. Regularly test your plan: Having a disaster recovery plan is not enough – you must also regularly test it to ensure that it works as intended. Conduct tabletop exercises and simulations to identify any gaps or weaknesses in your plan and make necessary adjustments.
4. Backup your data regularly: Data is one of the most valuable assets of any organization, so it’s important to regularly backup your data to prevent data loss in the event of a disaster. Consider using cloud-based backup solutions for added security and accessibility.
5. Secure your data: In addition to backing up your data, it’s also important to secure it from potential threats. Implement encryption, access controls, and other security measures to protect your data from unauthorized access or theft.
6. Establish a communication plan: Effective communication is key during a disaster recovery situation. Establish a communication plan that outlines how you will keep employees, customers, and stakeholders informed during a crisis.
7. Consider business continuity: While disaster recovery focuses on recovering from a disaster, business continuity planning focuses on maintaining essential business functions during and after a disaster. Consider integrating business continuity planning into your disaster recovery plan for a more comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness.
In conclusion, disasters can have a devastating impact on businesses, but with a solid disaster recovery plan in place, you can mitigate the effects and recover quickly. By following these best practices learned from real-life events, you can better prepare your organization for any potential disaster that may come your way.

Disaster Recovery Best Practices: How to Protect Your Business from Unexpected Events
Disasters can strike at any time, and it’s important for businesses to have a plan in place to ensure their survival in the event of unexpected events. Whether it’s a natural disaster like a hurricane or earthquake, or a man-made disaster like a cyber attack or data breach, having a disaster recovery plan in place is crucial to protecting your business and minimizing downtime. Here are some best practices for disaster recovery to help your business prepare for the unexpected:
1. Identify potential risks: The first step in creating a disaster recovery plan is to identify potential risks that could impact your business. This includes natural disasters, such as floods, fires, and hurricanes, as well as man-made disasters like cyber attacks and data breaches. By understanding the potential risks your business faces, you can better prepare for them and mitigate their impact.
2. Create a disaster recovery plan: Once you have identified potential risks, it’s important to create a detailed disaster recovery plan that outlines how your business will respond in the event of a disaster. This plan should include procedures for backing up data, restoring systems and equipment, and communicating with employees and customers during a crisis.
3. Backup your data: One of the most important aspects of disaster recovery is backing up your data regularly. This ensures that you can quickly recover your information in the event of a disaster. Consider using cloud-based backup solutions to store your data offsite, so it’s not affected by on-premises disasters.
4. Test your plan regularly: It’s not enough to simply have a disaster recovery plan in place – you also need to test it regularly to ensure it will work when you need it most. Conducting regular disaster recovery drills can help identify any weaknesses in your plan and make necessary adjustments to improve its effectiveness.
5. Train your employees: Your employees are a crucial part of your disaster recovery plan, so it’s important to ensure they are well-trained in emergency procedures and know what to do in the event of a disaster. Provide regular training sessions to educate your staff on how to respond to different types of disasters and make sure they know their role in the recovery process.
6. Review and update your plan: As your business grows and changes, so too should your disaster recovery plan. Regularly review and update your plan to reflect any changes in your business operations, technology, or potential risks. This will ensure that your plan remains effective and up-to-date in the face of evolving threats.
By following these best practices for disaster recovery, you can protect your business from unexpected events and minimize the impact of disasters on your operations. With a well-thought-out plan in place, you can ensure the survival and continuity of your business in the face of any crisis.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has come a long way since its early days of no-weight-classes brawls. Back in 1993, when Art Jimmerson famously walked into the octagon wearing one boxing glove, nobody could have predicted the global phenomenon it would become.
Now, in 2025, the UFC is heading into an action-packed February with four killer events that will keep fight fans glued to their screens. Here, we have compiled a list of UFC events for February 2025, and they are phenomenal!

UFC Fight Night: Adesanya vs. Imavov
Let’s kick things off with UFC Saudi Arabia on February 1st, where Israel Adesanya is making his first non-title fight appearance in six years. The former middleweight champ, known for his matrix-like striking and anime-inspired walkouts, faces Nassourdine Imavov.
After dropping his belt to Sean Strickland and then losing to Dricus Du Plessis, Adesanya’s probably hoping the third time’s the charm. The card also features the UFC middleweight debut of Michael “Venom” Page against Shara Magomedov, which should be a striking fan’s dream come true.
Main Card:
Israel Adesanya vs. Nassourdine Imavov Middleweight Shara Magomedov vs. Michael ‘Venom’ Page Middleweight Sergei Pavlovich vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik Heavyweight Said Nurmagomedov vs. Vinicius Oliveira Bantamweight Fares Ziam vs. Mike Davis Lightweight Prelims:
Muhammad Naimov vs. Kaan Ofli Featherweight Shamil Gaziev vs. Thomas Petersen Heavyweight Terrance McKinney vs. Damir Hadzovic Lightweight Jasmine Jasudavicius vs. Mayra Bueno Silva Women’s flyweight Bogdan Grad vs. Lucas Alexander Featherweight Hamdy Abdelwahab vs. Jamal Pogues Heavyweight UFC 312: Du Plessis vs. Strickland 2
Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis are running it back at UFC 312 in Sydney on February 9th. Their first fight was a nail-biter that ended in a split decision, with ‘Stillknocks’ taking the belt. The trash talk between these two has been wild – no surprise there if fans know anything about Strickland!
Reigning champion Zhang Weili is also defending her strawweight title against submission specialist Tatiana Suarez on the co-main event of the same card.
Main Card:
Dricus du Plessis vs. Sean Strickland Middleweight (title fight) Zhang Weili vs. Tatiana Suarez Strawweight (title fight) Justin Tafa vs. Tallison Teixeira Heavyweight Jimmy Crute vs. Rodolfo Bellato Light Heavyweight Jake Matthews vs. Francisco Prado Welterweight Prelims:
Jack Jenkins vs. Gabriel Santos Featherweight Tom Nolan vs. Viacheslav Borshchev Lightweight Wang Cong vs. Bruna Brasil Women’s flyweight Colby Thicknesse vs. Aleksandre Topuria Bantamweight Early Prelims:
Jonathan Micallef vs. Kevin Jousset Welterweight Quillan Salkilld vs. Anshul Jubli Lightweight Hyunsung Park vs. Nyamjargal Tumendemberel Flyweight UFC Fight Night 251
The action moves to Las Vegas on February 15th for UFC Vegas 102 (Fight Night 251), where Jared “The Killa Gorilla” Cannonier faces Gregory Rodrigues. There was a time when Cannonier used to fight at heavyweight. Now, he is looking lean and mean at middleweight, trying to climb to a title shot.
Calvin Kattar, who once absorbed nearly 500 strikes in a single fight against Max Holloway, returns in the co-main event against Youssef Zalal. He will be looking to end his 3- fight losing streak.
Main Card:
Jared Cannonier vs. Gregory Rodrigues Middleweight Calvin Kattar vs. Youssef Zalal Featherweight Edmen Shahbazyan vs. Dylan Budka Middleweight Ismael Bonfim vs. Nazim Sadykhov Lightweight Rodolfo Vieira vs. Andre Petroski Middleweight Connor Matthews vs. Jose Delgado Featherweight Prelims:

The month wraps up in Seattle on February 22nd with a banger between Henry Cejudo and Song Yadong. ‘Triple C’, the only person to simultaneously hold Olympic gold and two UFC belts, is trying to bounce back from two losses.
And speaking of comebacks, Dominick Cruz is fighting Rob Font in the co-main. Cruz, who once dominated the bantamweight division is feeling the effects of ‘father time.’ This may very well be his last fight in the Octagon.
Main Card:
Henry Cejudo vs. Song Yadong Bantamweight Rob Font vs. Dominick Cruz Bantamweight Brendan Allen vs. Anthony Hernandez Middleweight Jean Silva vs. Melsik Baghdasaryan Featherweight Curtis Blaydes vs. Rizvan Kuniev Heavyweight Edson Barboza vs. Steve Garcia Featherweight Prelims:
Ion Cutelaba vs. Ibo Aslan Light Heavyweight Adam Fugitt vs. Billy Ray Goff Welterweight Ketlen Vieira vs. Macy Chiasson Women’s Bantamweight Ricky Simon vs. Javid Basharat Bantamweight Mansur Abdul-Malik vs. Nick Klein Middleweight Modestas Bukauskas vs. Raffael Cerqueira Light Heavyweight Conclusion
The UFC’s February schedule shows how far the sport has evolved. Gone are the days of tournament-style events and fighters competing multiple times in one night. Now fans have got Olympic medalists, technical strikers, and well-rounded athletes competing in state-of-the-art venues across the globe.
Saudi Arabia hosting a UFC event would have seemed impossible back when John McCain called the sport “human cockfighting.” The times sure have changed, and February 2025 is shaping up to be another milestone month in the UFC’s ever-growing legacy!

Rory McIlroy — Scaling back number of events may aid PGA Tour
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — After an early-morning cross-country flight following his TGL debut in Florida on Monday night, Rory McIlroy arrived at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Tuesday ahead of the PGA Tour’s second signature event of the season.
McIlroy has yet to play stateside this year, but the talk surrounding him Tuesday wasn’t about the state of his game but rather about the state of golf as an entertainment product.
“When we’re growing up dreaming of [being] professional golfers and trying to get the best out of ourselves, the last thing on our mind is being an entertainer,” McIlroy said. “I really like the way golf is, and I think a lot of other people do, too, but I still understand the critiques of how the entertainment product could get better.”
McIlroy acknowledged that the splintering of the game — between PGA Tour events, TGL, LIV (which kicks off its season in Saudi Arabia next week) and the recent rise in popularity for content creator-driven YouTube golf — also might be leading to an oversaturation of the game. TV ratings for PGA Tour events, for example, have seen drops this season.
“I think there’s space for all of this,” McIlroy said. “But I can see when the golf consumer might get a little fatigued.”
In response to concern about other forms of the sport taking away from the PGA Tour, McIlroy said he believes the tour’s product already has been diminished in recent years and that the number of events on the schedule has not helped.
“I think 47 or 50 tournaments a year is definitely too many,” he said. “To scale it back and have a little more scarcity, like the NFL, might not be a bad thing.”
The four-time major winner said Tuesday he likely will play fewer events this season while meeting the minimum requirements to maintain membership on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour. The world No. 3 played in 27 events last year; he said Tuesday he expects to play around 22 events this year. McIlroy’s TGL team, Boston Common, also has four regular-season matches remaining.
McIlroy said TGL’s audience has skewed younger, which would accomplish its goal of appealing to that demographic with a “bite-sized” version of the sport. But he remained adamant that competitiveness, above all else, will be the main factor for creating an entertaining product in golf overall.
“We’re professional golfers, we want to go out there and shoot the best score possible that we can and try to beat each other,” McIlroy said. “Hopefully people find that entertaining, and if not, then I don’t know what to tell them.”
With the advent of LIV, however, that competitiveness in the game has suffered due to the exits from the PGA Tour of players such as Jon Rahm, Cameron Smith and Bryson DeChambeau. And while McIlroy argued Tuesday that the PGA Tour is where most of the best players in the world still remain, he noted the fastest way to improve the entertainment product is to have tournaments featuring all of the best players in the world outside of the four major championships.
“I think in this day and age, you know, it’s become a hobby to bash golf and where golf is and is it entertaining? Is it not entertaining?” McIlroy said. “I came out on the wrong side of it last year, but I would say the last round of the U.S. Open (when he was outdueled by DeChambeau) was pretty entertaining last year, and that was pure competitive golf. I think the more we can get to scenarios like that, the better.”
Even while speaking Tuesday, McIlroy appeared to be grappling with the issue at the crux of what has plagued the sport in recent years — the push and pull between golf’s staunch tradition and its apparent need to evolve.
“I don’t think we should try to dumb down golf to appeal to more people. Golf is golf at the end of the day,” he said. “It’s been this way for hundreds of years. There’s a lot of things about golf that are very different than other sports, but I think that’s what makes it unique.”
Rory McIlroy, one of the top golfers in the world, has recently announced his decision to scale back the number of events he plays on the PGA Tour. This decision has sparked a debate among fans and analysts about whether this move could actually benefit the tour.McIlroy, who is known for his aggressive playing style and intense schedule, has stated that he wants to focus on quality over quantity when it comes to his tournament schedule. By playing in fewer events, he believes he can better maintain his physical and mental health, as well as improve his performance in the events he does play in.
Some argue that McIlroy’s decision could actually benefit the PGA Tour as a whole. By reducing the number of events he plays in, McIlroy may be able to bring more attention and excitement to the tournaments he does participate in. This could lead to increased viewership, ticket sales, and sponsorships for those events, ultimately benefiting the tour as a whole.
On the other hand, some worry that McIlroy’s absence from certain events could hurt the overall competitiveness and star power of the tour. Without one of the top players in the world at every event, some fear that fans may lose interest in those tournaments and the tour as a whole.
Ultimately, only time will tell whether McIlroy’s decision to scale back his number of events will have a positive or negative impact on the PGA Tour. But one thing is certain: his presence and performance on the tour will continue to be a major factor in shaping the future of professional golf.

X Games rookie Frank Jobin won gold, followed by Nate Haust with silver, and Benny Milam with bronze in men’s snowboard street style at X Games Aspen on Jan. 25, 2025.
Skyler Stark-Ragsdale/The Aspen TimesBold youth or veteran experience? Rookies led the charge during the final two days of X Games Aspen.
Men’s snowboard big air
Japan’s Hiroto Ogiwara set the tone in men’s snowboard big air on Friday night, landing the first ever 2340 — six and a half spins — in competition and winning the event. A rookie, the 19-year-old won his first ever gold on his debut. Japan’s Taiga Hasegawa, 19, took home silver, bringing his medal count to three, and New Zealand rookie Rocco Jamieson, 18, took bronze, also bringing home his first X Games medal.
Men’s snowboard knuckle huck
Later Friday night, China’s Wang Ziyang, 21, won knuckle huck with the competition’s first ever triple frontflip. The rookie began the rotation before the lip of the knuckle, tapping the tip and tail of his snowboard as he completed the first flip, before continuing the axis for two more. Switzerland’s Patrick Hofmann, 23, won silver and California’s Dusty Henricksen, 21, took home the bronze, bringing his X Games medal count to five.
Snowboard street style
Women’s snowboard rookies swept street style in the event debut on Saturday afternoon. Montana’s Iris Pham, 20, won the event. Finland rookie Telma Sarkipaju, 19, won silver, and Minnesota’s Jaylen Hanson, 18, won bronze. All three athletes earned their first X games medals.
Rookies struck again in the men’s snowboard street style following the women’s competition Saturday. Canada’s Frank Jobin, 26, took gold at his first ever X Games, followed by Massachusetts’ Nate Haust, 32, and Minnesota’s Benny Milam, 26. Each athlete won their first X Games medal.
Men’s ski big air
Saturday night’s big air saw the highest spinning night in the history of X Games, with a group of 20-year-olds, mostly rookies, taking the podium. Italian rookie Miro Tabanelli landed the first ever 2340, matching the bar Ogiwara set in snowboard big air the previous night with six and a half spins. New Zealand rookie Luca Harrington followed Friday’s slopestyle gold with a big air silver, landing a 2160, six spins. And Austria’s Matej Svancer landed a switch tailbutter 2160, flexing the tails of his skis off the lip of the jump as he spun six times, starting backwards and ending backwards.
Veteran Alex Hall started the night with a zero spin, starting backwards off of the jump and landing backwards with no spins, perhaps in protest of the “spin to win” mindset the event is developing. The judges however, did not reward him for his commentary. Troy Podmilsak, who won gold in 2024 and just missed the podium on a 2360 attempt this year, said tricks this big are not necessarily fun.
“I’m absolutely terrified. I do not want to be doing these tricks,” he told the X Games press.
