General Hospital’s Charles Mesure Exits; replaced by Chris McKenna
Jack Brennan is about to look a lot different on General Hospital.
Deadline has confirmed that Charles Mesure, who joined the ABC sudser in December of 2023, is walking away from his role as Brennan and will be replaced by Chris McKenna, who is best known in the soap world for playing Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live and Det. Mark Harding on The Young and the Restless.
Mesure’s last air date was Jan. 30; McKenna will show up starting Feb. 4.
“Charles Mesure opted to exit the role of Brennan,” according to a GH statement. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors. General Hospital looks forward to continuing Brennan’s exciting storyline with Chris McKenna in the role.”
Brennan has worked as a journeyman actor in TV for decades, with credits that include Gotham Nights, Blue Bloods, Desperate Housewives, Ghost Whisperer, Bones and Without a Trace. He told Soap Opera Digest last year that he was a bit nervous about working in daytime.
“I’ll be honest about it, I thought, ‘I’m an old dog. I’m not sure if I can learn any new tricks! I’m not sure if I can adapt to the huge amount of dialogue that these fantastic actors on shows like General Hospital can learn,” he told Digest, which was first to report the news about Mesure’s departure. “I’m not sure if I can suddenly be a leading man again at the age of 53! For 28 years, I came from a single camera film background where you can only do eight, nine, 10 pages a day, [while at GH] it’s no secret that they do 10 times that every day!”
McKenna was only 12 when he was cast on One Life to Live as Joey Buchanan, son of Clint and Viki Buchanan, from 1990-93. He most recently appeared on NCIS, The Blacklist and Chicago Fire.
After six years on General Hospital, actor Charles Mesure is saying goodbye to the beloved soap opera. Mesure’s character, Dr. Marcus Taggert, has been a fan favorite since his debut on the show in 2020. However, the actor has decided to pursue other opportunities and will be exiting the show.Taking over the role of Dr. Marcus Taggert will be actor Chris McKenna. McKenna is no stranger to soap operas, having previously appeared on The Young and the Restless and One Life to Live. Fans can expect McKenna to bring his own unique spin to the character of Taggert as he settles into his new role on General Hospital.
While Mesure’s departure may leave some fans feeling nostalgic, McKenna’s arrival is sure to bring a fresh energy to the show. General Hospital viewers can look forward to seeing how McKenna’s portrayal of Dr. Marcus Taggert will impact the storyline and shake up the drama in Port Charles. Don’t miss McKenna’s debut on General Hospital and stay tuned for more exciting developments in the world of daytime television.

Casting Exclusive: Charles Mesure Exits GH, Brennan Recast With Chris McKenna
Jack Of All Trades: Charles Mesure’s (l.) run as Brennan has come to an end, with Chris McKenna tapped to replace him.
In arguably the biggest casting shakeup of the soap year thus far, Charles Mesure, who made his General Hospital debut in the role of Jack Brennan on December 1, 2023, has left the show of his own accord. A GH spokesperson confirmed the news to Soap Opera Digest in a statement, saying, “Charles Mesure opted to exit the role of Brennan. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Role Reversal
Mesure’s last air date was Thursday, January 30 — and beginning on Tuesday, February 4, the role of Brennan will be played by soap vet Chris McKenna (ex-Joey Buchanan, One Life to Live; ex-Mark Harding, Young and Restless; ex-Dr. Hayden, Bold and Beautiful). Said the GH rep in a statement, “General Hospital looks forward to continuing Brennan’s exciting storyline with Chris McKenna in the role.”
In an interview with Digest last year, Mesure admitted that he had gone into his audition for GH with some trepidation. “I’ll be honest about it, I thought, ‘I’m an old dog. I’m not sure if I can learn any new tricks! I’m not sure if I can adapt to the huge amount of dialogue that these fantastic actors on shows like General Hospital can learn. I’m not sure if I can suddenly be a leading man again at the age of 53!’ ” He explained, “For 28 years, I came from a single camera film background where you can only do eight, nine, 10 pages a day, [while at GH] it’s no secret that they do 10 times that every day!”
His mind was changed, he shared, after meeting GH’s casting director, Mark Teschner, and reading opposite Laura Wright (Carly), who he described as “so superb when I read with her and such a gracious host in the way that she ran that chemistry read. I thought, ‘Oh, I think I really want to work with her!’ ”
At the time of his conversation with Digest, Mesure enthused, “The truth is, I’ve had an absolute ball. I’m really surprised at how much fun this has been because I was so apprehensive about the workload, I was apprehensive about the pressure and the schedule and so forth, but I’ve had an absolute ball every single day I’ve been there.”
Crush Groove: Carly (Laura Wright) and Brennan’s relationship has blossomed in recent weeks.
Mesure’s successor as Brennan, Chris McKenna, began his daytime career at the age of 12, when he was cast on One Life to Live in the role of Joey Buchanan, son of Clint and Viki Buchanan, which he played from 1990-93. As Joey, McKenna was part of the landmark storyline of teen Billy Douglas’s (Ryan Phillippe) coming out. “It was a big deal and remember that fondly,” he told Digest in 2014. In 1993, he earned a Soap Opera Digest Award nomination for Outstanding Child Actor for his portrayal of Joey.
McKenna returned to soaps in 2014 to play murderous detective Mark Harding on Y&R. He beamed to Digest at the time, “It’s been so great to revisit those daytime roots. I was kind of thrown into the fire at Y&R and it could’ve been a potentially nerve-wracking experience for me, but it turned out to be a great experience.” After Harding was killed off in 2015, McKenna briefly popped up on B&B the following year as a therapist who treated Heather Tom’s Katie.
Over the course of his career, McKennas also amassed a wide array of prime-time credits, appearing on shows such as That ’70s Show, Criminal Minds, Chicago Fire, NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS: Los Angeles. Between 2011 and 2013, the actor had a seven-episode recurring run on 90210, the reboot of Beverly Hills 90210, in the role of Patrick Westhill.
Way Back When: McKenna on the OLTL set, where he played Joey opposite Erin Torpey as Jessica and Robert S. Woods as Bo.
After four years of bringing the character of Dr. Austin Brennan to life on General Hospital, Charles Mesure has announced his departure from the popular soap opera. Mesure’s portrayal of the charming and enigmatic doctor has garnered him a dedicated fan following, but the actor has decided to pursue other opportunities. In light of Mesure’s exit, General Hospital has announced that the role of Dr. Austin Brennan will be recast with actor Chris McKenna. McKenna is no stranger to soap operas, having previously appeared on The Young and the Restless and One Life to Live. Fans can expect McKenna to bring his own unique spin to the character of Brennan, as he navigates the drama and intrigue of Port Charles.

Former ‘Meet the Press’ moderator Chuck Todd exits NBC News
Former “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd is leaving NBC News after nearly 18 years at the network.
Todd said in a memo to NBC News colleagues that Friday was his last day. He’ll continue doing his podcast and said he’s considering new projects, but offered no details.
He joined NBC News as political director in 2007 and was “Meet the Press” moderator from 2014 to 2023, before giving way to Kristen Welker. The role made him one of the more visible journalists in Washington and, as such, an occasional target of President Donald Trump and his supporters.
Todd was a leader in the on-air protest last year that scuttled the hiring of former Republican Party chair Ronna McDaniel as an NBC News contributor.
In his memo to colleagues, Todd said the news media has much work to do in winning back the trust of consumers, “and I’m convinced the best place to start is from the bottom up” with entrepreneurship.
“National media can’t win trust back without having a robust partner locally and trying to game algorithms is no way to inform and report,” he wrote. “People are craving community and that’s something national media or the major social media companies can’t do as well as local media.”
Reporting is key to winning back public support, he said. “If you do this job seeking popularity, or to simply be an activist,” he said, “you are doing this job incorrectly.”

In a statement, Todd thanked NBC News for the opportunity to lead “Meet the Press” and expressed his gratitude to his colleagues and viewers. He did not provide specific details about his plans for the future, but hinted that he is looking forward to new opportunities and challenges.
During his tenure at NBC News, Todd covered some of the most consequential political events of our time, from presidential elections to major policy debates. His departure marks the end of an era for “Meet the Press,” which has been a mainstay of Sunday morning television for decades.
As fans and colleagues bid farewell to Todd, they are sure to remember his sharp wit, incisive analysis, and unwavering commitment to journalistic integrity. While Todd’s departure may leave a void at NBC News, his legacy as a respected and trusted journalist will endure for years to come.

Nuggets’ Russell Westbrook exits win due to hamstring tightness
PHILADELPHIA — Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook left Denver’s 137-134 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night because of left hamstring tightness and did not return.
Westbrook, who had 4 points, 7 assists and 6 turnovers in 25 minutes, exited 50 seconds into the fourth quarter after a quick timeout by Nuggets coach Michael Malone, and though the team listed him as questionable, he never returned.
Malone didn’t give an update on Westbrook’s status, though he noted Westbrook had “a big smile on his face” after Denver’s victory. And though Westbrook didn’t speak to the media postgame, he left the arena without a limp.
The Nuggets will close a five-game road trip across eight days Saturday night in Charlotte, North Carolina, the second of a back-to-back set.
After losing the first three games of the road trip in Minnesota, Chicago and New York, Denver appeared headed for another loss. The Nuggets were trailing 123-122 after reigning MVP Nikola Jokic committed a travel with 2:39 remaining.
But then, over the final 2:30, Jokic went 4-for-4 from the field for 11 points and assisted on Christian Braun‘s layup — the only shot attempt by another Nugget during that stretch — to close out the game and snap Denver’s three-game losing streak.
“That’s just what he does,” Braun, who will return to the starting lineup if Westbrook has to miss time, said of Jokic. “He made some big plays for us, and that’s who he is.”
Since Westbrook entered Denver’s starting lineup Dec. 27, he has averaged 14.2 points, 6.6 assists and 6.4 rebounds while shooting 53.8% from the field. It was unclear whether Westbrook would remain in the starting lineup over Braun as Denver has slowly been working Aaron Gordon back into the lineup after a calf injury. On Wednesday, Gordon returned to the starting five and Braun went to the bench as the Nuggets lost to the Knicks.
“Never an easy decision,” Malone said Wednesday. “Christian Braun has been great for us this year. Not good — he’s been great. And he’s done everything that’s been asked of him. But I just like keeping Russell out there.
“I think the Russ-and-Nikola dynamic is the best two-man combination in the NBA right now, and I didn’t want to disrupt their rhythm.”
In a recent game against the Portland Trail Blazers, the Denver Nuggets’ star point guard Russell Westbrook had to exit the game early due to hamstring tightness. Westbrook, who has been a key player for the Nuggets this season, was forced to sit out the remainder of the game as a precautionary measure. This injury comes at a crucial time for the Nuggets, as they are currently fighting for a playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference. Westbrook’s presence on the court has been instrumental in the team’s success, so his absence will surely be felt in the coming games.
The Nuggets’ medical staff will continue to monitor Westbrook’s hamstring tightness and provide updates on his status as more information becomes available. In the meantime, the team will have to rely on their depth and resilience to overcome this setback and continue their push for the playoffs. Stay tuned for more updates on Westbrook’s condition and how it may impact the Nuggets’ season.

OKC Thunder Defensive Ace Exits vs. Warriors With Ankle Injury
The Oklahoma City Thunder will not see Alex Caruso return to the fold against the Golden State Warriors. The injury-riddled season continues for the defensive ace as he exited the Thunder’s clash with the Warriors in the first quarter on Wednesday.
This comes down to good ol’ fashion bad luck. Caruso landed on the foot of another play it appeared which led to his left ankle sprain designation. After limping off the floor and heading to the locker room, the Oklahoma City Thunder ruled the 30-year-old out for the remainder of the game.
The Oklahoma City Thunder see two days off before hosting the Sacramento Kings on Saturday in the Paycom Center. Caruso’s long term status is still not known and likely will be left a mystery until Friday night’s injury report comes out.
Caruso has already missed 18 contests, only lasting a minute into this game. Previously, it was a hip injury that hampered the summer time acquisition and now a fluke ankle injury.
This season, the defense stalwart is averaging 5.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.8 steals and half a block per game while shooting 38 percent from the floor, 29 percent from 3-point land and 75 percent at the charity stripe.
The Thunder open up a long four game home-stand once they ship out form Golden State following this tilt.

The Oklahoma City Thunder suffered a tough blow in their game against the Golden State Warriors as their defensive ace exited the game with an ankle injury. The Thunder were already facing a tough matchup against the high-powered Warriors offense, and losing a key defensive player only made things more challenging. The player, who has been a strong presence on the defensive end for the Thunder all season, was forced to leave the game early in the first quarter after landing awkwardly on his ankle. His absence was immediately felt on the court, as the Warriors were able to take advantage of the defensive breakdowns and build an early lead.
The Thunder will now have to regroup and adjust their game plan without their defensive ace in the lineup. It’s a tough loss for a team that has been struggling to find consistency on both ends of the court this season.
We wish the player a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the court soon. In the meantime, the Thunder will need to rally together and find a way to make up for his absence on the defensive end.

Norah O’Donnell exits ‘CBS Evening News’ after 5 years as anchor in emotional sign-off
Norah O’Donnell bade farewell to her anchor chair at “CBS Evening News” on Thursday night, calling the gig the “honor of a lifetime” — as the network prepares for an overhauled broadcast.
“It has been an incredible five and a half years,” O’Donnell said.
Oprah Winfrey surprised O’Donnell, 51, with a montage that featured interviews with Pope Francis and former Vice President Kamala Harris and on-location coverage across roughly 1,300 broadcasts.
“You have so much to be proud of,” Winfrey said. “Your work as the anchor and managing editor of the ‘CBS Evening News’ has not only won awards, but more importantly, has made such a difference and informed our nation.”
O’Donnell, who has served as the broadcast’s anchor since 2019, emphasized the importance of journalism as she delivered her final on-air sign-off.
“This has been the honor of a lifetime to anchor this legacy broadcast,” O’Donnell said.
“The ‘CBS Evening News’ — for good reason — is the longest-running evening newscast in America. And it is powered by the finest journalists in the world.”
“The correspondents, producers, researchers and crews who work tirelessly to bring you the news every night. That won’t change because journalism matters. I know that because I’ve heard that from so many of you — our viewers. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting us and welcoming hard news with heart into your homes.”
She was flanked by “Evening News” staffers who showered O’Donnell with applause when the broadcast went off the air.
“I will miss you too,” O’Donnell told viewers. “So for the final time, that’s tonight’s ‘CBS Evening News.’ I owe it all to everyone I work with. Seriously. Love you. Good night.”
In July, O’Donnell announced that she would vacate her role as anchor and managing editor after the 2024 presidential election to focus on an expanded role at the network amid struggling viewership.
The decision came months before parent Paramount Global conducted sweeping layoffs of 2,000 staffers to cut $500 million from the budget ahead of its planned merger with Skydance Media.
She will work on long-form reporting and interviews for CBS’s primetime specials, “Sunday Morning” and “60 Minutes” broadcasts, CBS announced.
O’Donnell’s $8 illion salary was slashed by more than half to $3.8 million when she re-signed a deal with the network in 2022, The Post exclusively reported.
The “Evening News” averaged just 4.6 million total viewers in the most recent quarter and less than 670,000 in the key 25- to 54-year-old demographic — trailing “ABC World News Tonight” and “NBC Nightly News.”
CBS reporter John Dickerson and longtime CBS New York anchor Maurice Dubois were appointed as O’Donnell’s successors.
The pair will serve as co-anchors and broadcast their first episode on January 27 from NYC, moving the studio from Washington, DC, back to the Big Apple.
“I want to say thank you to the viewers,” DuBois said Thursday. “This is my hometown. And without the viewers, there is no us, so thank you for everything over the years we’ll keep going at a different time.”
After five years at the helm of the ‘CBS Evening News,’ Norah O’Donnell has bid a heartfelt farewell to viewers in an emotional sign-off. O’Donnell, who took over as anchor of the broadcast in 2019, shared her gratitude for the opportunity to bring the day’s news into homes across the country. In her final broadcast, O’Donnell reflected on the stories she covered and the people she met during her time at CBS. She thanked her colleagues, viewers, and supporters for their dedication and support, acknowledging the challenges and triumphs they faced together.
O’Donnell’s departure marks the end of an era for ‘CBS Evening News,’ but her legacy as a respected journalist and anchor will undoubtedly continue to inspire and inform audiences for years to come. We wish Norah O’Donnell all the best in her future endeavors and look forward to seeing where her career takes her next.

The New Orleans Saints are suddenly down a candidate in their head coaching search.
Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady has pulled out of contention for the Saints job ahead of Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Rapoport also reported that the Saints plan to speak with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.
Nick Underhill of New Orleans.football added that Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury “hasn’t decided whether or not to take an interview with the Saints” and will start to look at his options once the team’s season is over.
Brady has been the Bills offensive coordinator since the 2023 season and previously had served as the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator for the 2021 season.
Under Brady’s tutelage, Bills quarterback Josh Allen had a spectacular 2024 season. Allen threw for 3,731 yards with 28 touchdowns and six interceptions while also adding 531 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
The Saints are the only team left without a permanent head coach. New Orleans fired head coach Dennis Allen during the 2024 season and finished the year 5-12. The team had also been linked to Aaron Glenn but he elected to leave the Detroit Lions for the New York Jets.
As they look for a permanent fill, McCarthy, Moore and others will contend for the job while Brady focuses on helping the Bills capture their first Super Bowl.
In a surprising turn of events, Joe Brady has reportedly decided to remove himself from consideration for the New Orleans Saints head coaching position and will instead remain with the Buffalo Bills. This news comes as a shock to many, as Brady was considered a top candidate for the Saints job.Brady, who currently serves as the Bills’ offensive coordinator, has been a rising star in the coaching world. His innovative offensive schemes and play-calling have been instrumental in the Bills’ success this season, and many believed he was ready to take the next step as a head coach.
While the reasons behind Brady’s decision to stay with the Bills are unclear, it is a big win for Buffalo, who will retain a key piece of their coaching staff. The Saints, on the other hand, will now have to look elsewhere for their next head coach.

WASHINGTON – And just like that, it was over.
Joe Biden departed the White House for the final time as president on Monday, ending a half-century career in politics that took him from a county council seat in Delaware to the United States Senate, the vice presidency, and ultimately, the highest elected office in the land.
A long motorcade of black limousines and SUVs rolled down the driveway of the White House North Lawn at 10:39 a.m., through the iron gates surrounding the presidential mansion and turned toward the U.S. Capitol.
In the back seat of the presidential limo was Biden, taking his last ride as leader of the free world. Beside him, President-elect Donald Trump, who would take the oath of office and assume the presidency at noon.
Four years ago, Biden made the 10-minute drive to the Capitol without his predecessor.
Inauguration live updates:Donald Trump, Joe Biden enter Capitol after traditional meeting
Trump, bitter over his loss to Biden and in denial about his defeat, departed the White House the morning of the inauguration aboard the presidential helicopter. He refused to participate in the ceremonies for the man who would replace him, as previous outgoing presidents have done for decades. He was in Palm Beach, Florida, when Biden’s swearing-in ceremony began.
Biden, however, a believer of traditions and institutions, argued that Americans want to see the peaceful transfer of power. So on Monday, he rode to the Capitol with Trump, whose two nonconsecutive terms will bookend Biden’s single, four-year term as president.
Asked by reporters before his departure how he felt, Biden responded: “Good. It’s a beautiful day.”
Biden to Trump: ‘Welcome home’
The changing of the guard started early Monday when Biden and first lady Jill Biden greeted Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, at the White House for a ceremonial tea.
“Welcome home,” Biden said to Trump as he stepped out of an SUV at the White House North Portico .
The Trumps walked up the steps of the White House toward its front entrance hand in hand.
Melania Trump arrived at the White House at the start of her husband’s first term carrying a Tiffany Blue box that she presented to Barack and Michelle Obama. She was empty-handed on Monday.
Also notably absent were the hugs and European kisses the Obamas welcomed their replacements with as they presented themselves at the North Portico. While the handoff from the Obamas was strikingly warm, the couples’ handshake with the Bidens was decidedly formal.
More:Donald Trump to declare federal government recognizes two sexes — male and female
Trump fiddled with the button on his overcoat but finally left it unbuttoned as the couples posed for photos. Melania Trump put her hand on her head to keep her hat down as a gust of wind threatened to knock if off as all four headed inside the presidential mansion.
Atop the White House, the American flag flew at half-staff in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, who died last Dec. 29. Trump had protested that the flag ritual would coincide with his inauguration.
Vice President Kamala Harris‘ exit from her Naval Observatory residence was a lower key affair. She and second gentleman Doug Emhoff said their public goodbyes on Thursday as Harris continued the vice presidential tradition of signing the desk in her Ceremonial Office. Staff and alumni of Harris’ operation stuffed themselves into the ornate room.
Every vice president has used the office, with one exception, since 1960. It will become JD Vance’s workplace next.
Harris lost the 2024 election to Trump after taking over as the Democratic nominee from Biden. Her political future is unclear. She is considering a run for California governor in 2026.
“It is not my nature to go quietly into the night,” she said with a laugh at her desk signing. “So don’t worry about that.”
A spokesperson for Harris said the former California attorney general and U.S. senator would decide what comes next in her career after the inauguration. She and Emhoff will fly to Los Angeles on Monday. The couple own a home in Brentwood, which had been under evacuation orders amidst the wildfires. California will be their primary residence.
Following Trump’s inauguration, the Bidens and the Trumps walked out of the Capitol’s East Front and headed to a waiting Blackhawk military helicopter.
After handshakes and farewells, the Bidens boarded the chopper for the short flight to Joint Base Andrews in suburban Maryland, where Biden will receive a send-off and give his first speech as former president.
From there, Biden, now a private citizen, will travel to California for a vacation.

As Joe Biden exits the White House for the last time as president, he makes history by welcoming his successor, Donald Trump, to take over the highest office in the country. In a peaceful and graceful transition of power, Biden bids farewell to the American people and expresses his hope for a brighter future under the new administration. Trump, in turn, thanks Biden for his service and promises to work tirelessly for the American people. The historic moment symbolizes the peaceful transfer of power that is a hallmark of democracy in the United States.
