The first season of Dune: Prophecy set up many mysteries, but one of the biggest questions fans had all season was what exactly was going on with Desmond Hart. Played by Travis Fimmel, the former Imperial soldier with mysterious powers was one of the most intriguing new characters introduced to the franchise. However, fans were largely kept in the dark about his origins and where he picked up the ability to burn people alive from the inside out.
In the back half of the season, the creators started giving the audience some answerswhile still holding back more mysteries for the recently announced season two. In episode five, they revealed the truth of Desmond’s parentage, and the finale finally gave at least some answers as to the origins of his powers. While the forces who gave him his abilities remain a mystery for now, fans at least know that they’re not quite as mystical as they seemed at first.
Dune: Prophecy’s Fear Virus
After nearly a whole season spent looking for answers in the wake of Mother Kasha’s death in the premiere, the Sisterhood finally made progress in uncovering the truth in episode five. The consciousness of former Reverend Mother Raquella—using young acolyte Sister Lila’s body as a vessel—discovered that what killed Kasha is actually a virus that preys on a person’s fear response, overwhelming their system and killing them from the inside. The Sisters began to understand how the virus worked, but not how it could be triggered at will.

Dune: Prophecy: The Season 1 Ending For Each Major Character
Here’s where every major character in Dune: Prophecy stands at the end of Season 1.
They discovered more clues in the finale, theorizing that Desmond could somehow be triggering a reaction that was already lying dormant inside them, using fear as a catalyst. Armed with this knowledge, Sister and Suk doctor Nazir (Karima McAdams) willingly infected herself and attempted to control the virus using her Truthsayer training. This ultimately fails, as the virus seemed to react stronger the harder Nazir fights, and ultimately overwhelmed her defenses.
Through this gruesome affair, Tula surmised that the virus might not be biological at all, but rather some kind of small-scale thinking machine technology. She posited that Desmond may have had this technology implanted inside him, making him into a sort of living weapon, which would mean he’s as much a victim of outside forces as those he killed. If that’s the case, it means the Sisterhood has a much bigger enemy on their hands than Desmond Hart.
Desmond Hart the Weapon
In the Dune: Prophecy season finale, Tula heads to Salusa Secundus to try and confront Desmond, revealing that she’s his mother and offering to help try and remove the weapon from him. It all comes to a head when an injured Desmond catches up to Valya, Ynez, and Keiran as they try to make their escape, triggering the virus in Valya. By facing her fear rather than fighting it, Valya survives the ordeal and is treated to a vision of Desmond’s memory as a bonus.

Shows To Watch If You Like Dune: Prophecy
While fans wait for Dune: Prophecy’s next season, these shows should scratch the itch for political intrigue in fantastical worlds.
The memory puts the audience in Desmond’s point of view as a thinking machine pulls out one of his eyes, implanting several small glowing devices in his optic nerve before sticking the whole thing back in, as a shadowy figure watches from a distance. This all but confirms that his “powers” aren’t really powers at all, but technology implanted in him by as-yet unknown forces. The memory also ties into the vision that frightened the acolytes in episode four, revealing that the piercing blue eyes looming out of the darkness were actually the bright lights of the thinking machine.
Whether Desmond had this technology implanted in him willingly remains to be seen, but so far it seems like he’s always been in control of them, despite the heavy physical toll it takes to use them. It also remains to be seen just who is behind this whole scheme. Valya was unable to make out any details in her vision, and Desmond’s memory seemed like it had some holes. Before her death, Sister Nazir had a vision of “the monster of Arrakis,” and it seems like she saw something other than just a garden-variety Sandworm.
Now knowing the source of his power, Valya moved to kill Desmond but was stopped by Tula, who tried to get through to him and got arrested for her trouble. Hopefully, season two will reveal whether she’s able to cut through his resentment and fanaticism and convince him to join forces to fight their unknown common enemy, or if Desmond is fully aware of what’s been done to him and willing to carry it out. There will be plenty to ponder whenever Dune: Prophecy returns, but for now, fans at least have a few answers to tide them over until the next round of mysteries begins.

The final quarterfinal game of the 2024-25 College Football Playoff had been postponed after an armed man killed 14 people and injured 30 early Wednesday morning after driving a pickup truck through a large crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
The game was pushed from New Year’s Day on Wednesday to Thursday to ensure public safety amid the unfolding incident.
“All agree it’s in the best interest of everybody and public safety that we postpone the game,” said Sugar Bowl committee CEO Jeff Hundley on Wednesday.
The game, set to feature the CFP’s No. 2 seed Georgia taking on the No. 7 seed Notre Dame, was scheduled for 8:45 p.m. ET on Wednesday but will now be played at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday.
Bowl game schedule:Breaking down the Sugar Bowl and Gator Bowl matchups on Jan. 2
Bourbon Street attack: What we know
The attack occurred around 3:15 a.m. ET Wednesday morning, according to responders. The driver, later identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, opened fire on police officers in the area.
The gunman was fatally shot by police not long afterwards. The FBI and federal law officials noted that the driver had an ISIS flag, potential IEDs, and multiple weapons in his vehicle.
Sugar Bowl security and safety measures
There should be no issue with security at the game, according to Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy.
In an interview with CNN, Cassidy claimed that he was “extremely confident” the Sugar Bowl would still be played. In the wake of the attacks, additional security will likely be provided at the stadium.
“The standard operating procedure for a big game like the Sugar Bowl, for a Saints game, for the Super Bowl is to go through the building, make sure there’s nothing there that’s wrong, and then to lock it down,” Cassidy said. “The Sugar Bowl, the Superdome has been locked down. There is going to be no problem there.”
Will this affect the CFP schedule moving forward?
It appears the schedule for the College Football Playoff will not be changed. The semifinal matchups are still slated for Thursday, January 9 and Friday, January 10.
CFP News:Arizona State-Texas classic Peach Bowl shows College Football Playoff’s potential to be great
The Sugar Bowl, originally scheduled to take place on January 1st, was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the Notre Dame football program. The outbreak resulted in a significant number of players and staff testing positive for the virus, leading to concerns about the safety and well-being of everyone involved. As a result, the College Football Playoff committee made the decision to postpone the game to a later date to allow for proper testing, contact tracing, and quarantine measures to be implemented. This decision was made in the best interest of the health and safety of all individuals associated with the game, and to prevent the potential spread of the virus to other teams or personnel.
The new date for the Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and Georgia has not yet been announced, but it is expected to take place once the outbreak has been contained and it is safe to resume play. In the meantime, both teams are continuing to follow strict health and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of their players, coaches, and staff members.
We will continue to provide updates on the rescheduling of the Sugar Bowl as more information becomes available. Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging time.

Rosalind Eleazar, Charlie Hamblett, and Catherine Ayers, Missing You
Netflix[Warning: The following contains spoilers for the series finale of Netflix’s Missing You. Read at your own risk!]
When it comes to mysteries with epic twists and unexpected turns, Harlan Coben is the reigning king. There’s a reason so many of his books have been adapted into Netflix series: They keep us on the edge of our seats.
That’s especially true of 2025’s new entry, Missing You. The five-part series is based on Coben’s 2014 book of the same name. However, instead of taking place in New York, the action moves across the pond to the U.K., where Detective Inspector Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar) is determined to learn what really happened to her father Clint (Sir Lenny Henry) — who was murdered — once and for all. At the same time, she enters the world of online dating, only to stumble across the profile of her ex-fiancé Josh (Ashley Walters), who completely ghosted her 11 years earlier. Unsurprisingly, the two threads are linked in ways she could never have predicted.
If that isn’t enough to hook you, Kat is also tracking down a missing man whose disappearance may have more to do with her ex than she knows.
While each of the five episodes contains some twisty moment or jaw-dropping cliffhanger, the finale does an excellent job of wrapping everything up. Here are the biggest moments that conclude another excellent Coben series.
More on Netflix:
Coming Face-to-Face
After searching for Josh all season long, Kat finally comes face-to-face with her ex in the closing moments of Episode 4. The finale picks up from there, and it’s instantly clear that these two still have chemistry 11 years later. Since Josh’s sudden disappearance, he’s married, been widowed, and had a child, who started Josh’s Facebook profile, believing him to be lonely.
Josh explains to Kat that he never started the dating profile and that it is someone else using his photo. Something in the back of Kat’s mind has to click, but she’s too overwhelmed by emotions and runs away, leaving Josh alone by the water.
A Frantic Search
While Kat is busy dealing with her emotions, Dana (Lisa Faulkner) desperately tries to escape the farm where she is being held against her will. She remembers a telephone in the main house and doubles back to call for help.
There, Dana tries to call her son, Brendon (Oscar Kennedy), to warn him of the kidnappers coming his way. Before she can call the police or anyone who can actually help, one of the goons spots her and rips the phone from the wall. Dana accidentally hits him in the stomach with an axe, leaving her to free the other prisoners from the barn.
Titus Kidnaps the Wrong Person
Convinced that Dana is working with Kat, Titus (Steve Pemberton) decides his best course of action is to kidnap Kat’s son when he spots him outside Kat’s apartment. Although everyone should know by now not to approach strange vans, Titus tricks Brendan into coming to the van, where he and his sidekick promptly shove him in the back and start beating him up. Kat finally returns home to hear Brendan’s screams, and although she can’t stop Titus from driving off, she manages to get the plate and involve her colleagues back at the station.
A Fiery End
Titus isn’t the type to let a grudge go, so he immediately uses Brendan to threaten Dana back at the farm. As Dana and the other prisoners try to run away, she stops cold, hearing that the man is standing over her son. Dana returns to the fiery farm Titus has ordered to burn, knowing the police are on the way. He doesn’t know that Kat is already there, and she also approaches with a gun in hopes of saving Brendan.
Titus shoots Brendan in the leg, but thankfully that’s as far as it gets. Kat arrives just in time to save mother and son in a tense shootout that leaves Titus dead on the ground.

Calligan Grants Kat’s Wish
With Dana and Brendan safe, Kat returns her attention to her father’s case, especially when Calligan (James Nesbitt) tracks down her dad’s secret lover, Parker (Cyril Nri). Kat goes to Parker’s address expecting a woman, only to discover there is much more to her father than she previously realized. Parker is happy to see Kat and fills in some blanks but is unable to provide any further details about the night he died.
A Romantic Rekindling
Now that Kat knows more about her father and she’s been able to return to work, it seems she’s also ready to repair her personal life. When Josh calls her, they work it out and get back together in a happy montage that shows them all coupled up. Although Kat doesn’t know the whole truth, life is good, and it seems like she can almost be OK with that going forward. Almost.
The Fingerprint
Despite Stagger (Richard Armitage) trying to block the second fingerprint from Kat’s dad’s murder scene from going to the lab, he misses Charlie’s (Charlie Hamblett) second request for an ID. In the closing moments, it finally comes through, and he calls Kat as Josh freshens up in the bathroom.
Turns out the fingerprint was a match for some guy who got in a barfight in Scotland. Kat’s Spidey sense immediately realizes the shocking, world-turning-upside-down, Harlan-Coben-twisty truth: It was Josh who killed her father, and he’s been hiding it from her ever since.
Everyone Was Protecting Kat
Ashley Walters, Missing You
Vishal Sharma/NetflixKat is devastated, naturally, but the truth is more complicated than she realizes. In a flashback, we see that on the night Kat’s father was murdered, Aqua (Mary Malone) saw him with Parker. Clint then tracked Aqua down to the apartment and threatened her for fear she’d tell his family. He didn’t want Kat to know he had a secret relationship and wasn’t ready to confront his sexual identity.
In the flashback, it looked like Aqua could smooth things over, but then Kat called her and Clint saw her name on the caller ID. He raged out at Aqua, and Josh arrived, trying to break up the fight. In a confusing moment with a knife, Josh accidentally stabbed Clint, and Calligan rushed in, having suspected something was off with Clint during their earlier phone call.
The trio couldn’t save Clint’s life, and in honor of the man’s final wishes, Calligan covered up the crime scene to protect Josh and Aqua. As Kat grieved over the loss of her dad, Josh was unable to live with the truth that he killed her father — even if it was accidental — so he packed up and left.
Be Careful What You Wish For
Now that Kat knows the complete truth, she realizes everyone around her was trying to protect her and follow her father’s final wishes. In the closing moments, she sits on the bed beside Josh, processing everything she’s learned. Forgiveness seems impossible, but Josh is also the love of her life. And so she makes the first, tiniest move toward a potential reconciliation and touches her pinky finger to Josh’s before the closing credits roll.

#Netflixs #Missing #Explained #Happened #Harlan #Cobens #ThrillerSquid Game Season 2 Ending Explained: Who Died, What’s Next for Season 2, and More
This article contains major character or plot details.
The bloody competition of Squid Game has taken just about everything from its protagonist, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) — other than his life. During his first foray into the competition, his mother (Kim Young-ok) died . In order for Gi-hun to win the game in Season 1, his friend Cho Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo) had to die. Yet it isn’t until the final scene of Squid Game Season 2 that we see Gi-hun at his absolute lowest. He closes out Episode 7 wailing on the ground, looking into the lifeless eyes of his best friend, Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), who’s just been murdered by Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). To make matters even worse, Gi-hun has no idea that Front Man is actually Young-il, the player who Gi-hun thought was one of his closest allies in the new game.
“The end of Season 2 is going to make people more curious about how Gi-hun will do in the game now that this traumatic event has happened to him,” Lee Jung-jae tells Tudum. “After what’s happened to his friend, can he still maintain his objective of saving the other people in the game?”
And Lee Jung-jae, along with co-star Lee Byung-hun and Squid Game creator, director, and writer Hwang Dong-hyuk, are ready to answer those burning questions — along with many more. Keep reading for the inside scoop on Season 2’s biggest mysteries, from what’s going on with that pink guard to that mid-credits scene.
Who is Player 001?
In Season 1, Gi-hun learns his ally Player 001 — aka Oh Il-nam (Oh Young-su) — isn’t at all who he said he was. Il-nam was never a down-on-his-luck old man desperate for fortune — he was always the wealthy business scion behind Squid Game.
And little does Gi-hun know, there’s a similar subterfuge at play in Season 2. Once Gi-hun decides to reenter the game, Front Man also chooses to play. He takes over the Player 001 mantle and slips into the persona of “Young-il.” Lee Byung-hun, who plays Front Man, tells Tudum that his character enters the game to deal with some essential ideological differences between himself and Gi-hun. Front Man is “someone who believes that there is absolutely no hope for the world or humanity,” he says, while Gi-hun hopes for the best in society.
“It’s almost as if they’re betting against each other,” Lee Byung-hun continues. “The Front Man is asking questions like, ‘Do you really think you’re going to be able to end the game? Do you really think there’s hope in people? Do you think the world’s going to change?’ ”
Lee Byung-hun says the two characters’ conflict is the heart of Season 2.
What is the Front Man’s backstory?
Although Front Man is using a false identity, Young-il’s personality is heavily influenced by his own life. Before he was the Front Man, he was In-ho, a police officer who loved his wife. But she died of acute cirrhosis years before Season 1.
In the first four episodes of Season 2, we get some insight into her death. As Front Man tells Gi-hun under the guise of his Young-il persona, his wife’s cirrhosis eventually became so bad that she needed a liver transplant. While figuring out her treatment, Front Man and his wife also learned she was pregnant. Although doctors recommended terminating the pregnancy, she was determined to give birth, no matter the danger. The couple struggled to find a liver donor as her condition worsened. Desperate, Front Man borrowed as much money as he could and eventually accepted a loan from the wrong person. Front Man’s superiors saw the cash as a bribe and fired him despite his years of loyal dedication to his work.
A conversation between Jun-ho and his mother — who is Front Man’s stepmother — further explains the family’s history. Years before Front Man’s wife’s diagnosis, he gave Jun-ho his kidney. Therefore, when his wife became ill, Front Man couldn’t sell his own kidney to pay for her treatment. The entire family was also going through a difficult financial time, so Jun-ho and his mother couldn’t help with the bills. In the ensuing years, Front Man has avoided his family, as well as his wife’s grave.
These details helped Lee Byung-hun portray Front Man. When preparing for Season 2, he had many conversations with Hwang. “I would ask questions like, ‘Why does he act this way? Why does he say these things? And to what degree do I want to express the complexity of the character?’ ” he explains.
“Having to give different nuances to each of these three aspects was the most challenging — as well as the most fun — for me as an actor,” Lee Byung-hun says about juggling the identities of Front Man, In-ho, and Young-il.
What happens with No-eul?
In Episodes 1 and 2, we meet No-eul (Park Gyu-young), a mysterious woman who seems like the perfect candidate to play Squid Game. But, as the end of Episode 2 shockingly reveals, No-eul isn’t a player. She’s a pink guard and an expert sniper.
Season 2 gives us a few details about No-eul’s past. She’s a North Korean defector who left her family — including her daughter — behind. “[No-eul] has no other purpose in life than to reunite with her child,” Park says. “[She’s] harboring the kind of indescribable agony that cannot be expressed in words.”
Although No-eul may seem like nothing more than a mercenary, Park says she’s quite the opposite. “No-eul begins working at the game with the mission of letting hopeless people pass on peacefully without pain. She’s someone who can’t go on living but must do so,” the actor explains. “She joins the game with the idea of lifting others’ pain and giving peace to those suffering just like her.”
What happens with Jun-ho on the boat?
Early in Season 2, Gi-hun teams up with detective Jun-ho in an attempt to destroy Squid Game. They plan on staying in touch via a tracker that Gi-hun embeds in a fake tooth, but they lose track of each other when Gi-hun is taken back to the arena. (The problem is, they hadn’t planned on security discovering the tracker and disposing of it, and yet that’s exactly what happens.) The tracker is eventually found — not on the island, but mixed in with a pile of fishing bait. (Apparently, someone handed a fisherman a bag of leftover worms, which was hiding the tracker.)
But Jun-ho doesn’t give up, and he and the people he’s hired continue the search from their boat. While Jun-ho assumes he’s surrounded by friends (or at least loyal hired hands), the finale reveals something nefarious is afoot on the vessel — and the problem starts at the helm. In the middle of the night, one of the men on the boat finds the captain messing with a drone that was being used to search for the island. Once the man starts asking questions, Captain Park stabs him and throws him overboard. The captain then pretends nothing happened and blames the commotion on the waves.
The twists and turns of Squid Game clearly aren’t limited to the competition. You can expect the series to unravel more secrets around this story when Season 3 debuts next year.
Why does Jung-bae die?
The Squid Game Season 2 finale escalates to an armed rebellion between Gi-hun and some of his allied players and the people running Squid Game. Gi-hun’s best friend, Jung-bae — among many other players — winds up as collateral damage, because Gi-hun doesn’t know that Young-il is actually Front Man. At the start of the rebellion, the players think they have a good chance of emerging victorious — believing that they just might be able to seize control of the Squid Game arena.
But the game is not designed for the players to win, and Front Man makes sure the rebellion fails. Once he splits off from the group, he kills two of the rebels and fakes Young-il’s death. He then switches his radio to the guard frequency and tells his team to finish quashing the rebellion. They do. By the time Gi-hun and Jung-bae surrender, Front Man has discarded his Player 001 tracksuit in favor of his usual black cloak and mask.
Front Man takes this opportunity to prove to Gi-hun that his “little hero games” were ultimately empty. He shoots Jung-bae, killing him. This way, he can finally teach Gi-hun that there really is no hope in the world. Knowing that Gi-hun will have to live with that lesson is far more appealing to Front Man than simply killing Gi-hun. Death is too easy a way out.
“Audiences are definitely going to be shocked and very sad to see Jung-bae go,” Hwang says. The Squid Game creator sees Jung-bae as someone with the same optimism and warm heart that Gi-hun once possessed but has since lost. “He’s also the only person within the games that Gi-hun can trust and completely rely on.”
Hwang thought Jung-bae’s devastating loss would be the perfect place to end Season 2. Lee Jung-jae believes Jung-bae’s death will fundamentally change Squid Game’s formerly hopeful protagonist.
“How much pain can someone endure in order to achieve their goal?” Lee Jung-jae asks. “Would that determination he had in the beginning still be intact? Would he still have that feeling inside of him? Because now his best friend is dead.”
Does Gi-hun know about Front Man’s betrayal?
Gi-hun’s deadly season-ending meeting with Front Man is also his most honest conversation with his friend Young-il. However, Lee Jung-jae says, “I don’t think Gi-hun knows the truth yet.” He’s incapable of realizing Front Man’s villainous switcheroo because he’s too busy “blaming himself for everything that happened.”
Hwang doesn’t exactly categorize Front Man’s actions as a true “betrayal.” “Because that was his intention and plan all along,” the writer says. “That moment is really the climax of Season 2. The Front Man starts off the season with his mask off, but then returns to himself and ends with his mask back on.”
What’s next for Gi-hun in Squid Game Season 3?
The final moments of Squid Game Season 2 leave Gi-hun in the darkest place yet. His allies and friends have been murdered in the rebellion. His dream of overthrowing the guards seems to be dead as well. “And now, his best friend’s gone,” Lee Jung-jae says. “He’s been ripped of everything. He’s lost all he’s got.”
Director Hwang says this is an integral moment for Gi-hun. “You realize that Gi-hun’s attempts to put an end to the game have failed — in two ways,” he explains. First, he wasn’t able to persuade his fellow players to stop Squid Game through voting. Then, Gi-hun “failed at trying to use physical power and strength to go up against those that were hosting the game.”
But the Squid Game creator is excited for audiences to find out where this “state of deep despair” pushes Gi-hun. “Is he still going to believe that he will be able to persuade others and leave together or put an end to the game?” Hwang asks. “Or will he give in and become a completely different person? Someone just like the Front Man, who thinks, ‘What can I change?’ ”
These questions set up the story for Season 3, which Hwang calls the “second chapter of Gi-hun and Front Man’s showdown.”
What does the Squid Game Season 2 mid-credits scene mean?
Gi-hun’s tragic goodbye to Jung-bae isn’t the last you see of Squid Game in Season 2. In between the credits, we get a surprise glimpse at what’s ahead in the series, including a look at three players walking, Young-hee’s always terrifying face, a mysterious boy doll, and the glow of a green light turning on.
