  • Ted DiBiase Explains Why Million Dollar Title Was “A Real Pain In The A**” To Travel With

Ted DiBiase has shared his thoughts on the iconic Million Dollar title.

WWE Hall of Famer and ex-wrestler Ted DiBiase has opened up on his thoughts on the Million Dollar championship. Popular for his unique gimmick back in his time and the iconic championship belt, DiBiase claims it was a real “pain in the a**” to travel with.

Speaking on his podcast, Everybody’s Got a Pod, DiBiase discussed the challenges of traveling with the belt.

“It was a real pain in the ass. I mean — and again, they took a Halliburton briefcase and gutted it, put foam padding in it, and basically made it look like a ring box. And the belt fit right down — when it was folded, it fit right in that Halliburton briefcase. And I had to take that thing everywhere I went.

I remember one night, I think we were in Boston. And we went somewhere after the show and had a few drinks and everything. I don’t know what got into me about, ‘Oh my gosh, where’s the belt? Where’s the belt?’ You know, we went back to whoever I rode over there with when it wasn’t there. And you know, come to find out, I put it in the referee’s trunk.”

The veteran further explained the troubles he faced with customs when crossing borders.

I was always afraid I was gonna [lose it.] I had to carry that thing with me anytime we went across the border. And we’d go back and forth to Canada a little bit, but anywhere we went where I was going through customs, I had to show them something that [had] it’s estimated value. And that’s what it was, 40 grand.”

Ted DiBiase Shares Why The Million Dollar Title Was So Valuable

In the same podcast, DiBiase opened up further on why the championship is so valuable. While the belt had almost 700 fake diamonds embedded in it, it also had real diamonds.

“All the stones in the belt, they’re not all diamonds. Most of those stones in the face of the belt, they’re what you call cubic zirconium. When I heard that, I asked my wife, ‘What the hell is that?’ And she goes, ‘That means they’re almost a diamond but not quite.’ I don’t know how you can be almost and not — anyway. So each one of those stones, I guess, was worth about 50 bucks. There were 700 of them in the face of the belt.

And I think — I’ve already told this to a lot of people. But if you looked on the back of the belt, where nobody ever saw the back of the belt. But at the back of the belt at the top on the back was — there were three little [things] and I said, ‘What are those?’ They told me, they said, ‘Ted, those are real diamonds.’ ‘Why? Nobody’s gonna see them.’ ‘Well, if anybody ever asks you are the diamonds in the belt real, you could say yes and you won’t be lying.’”

Inactive from WWE for some time, DiBiase was last involved in an NXT storyline between Cameron Grimes and LA Knight. He also appeared backstage at Raw is XXX.

Wrestling legend Ted DiBiase recently sat down for an interview and revealed why his famous Million Dollar Championship title was more of a burden than a blessing during his time in the WWE.

According to DiBiase, the elaborate and heavy title belt, which was adorned with diamonds and gold, was not only a status symbol but also a real pain in the you-know-what to travel with. He explained that the sheer weight of the belt made it difficult to lug around from city to city, especially when flying or driving long distances.

“It was a beautiful title, don’t get me wrong, but it was a real pain in the ass to travel with,” DiBiase admitted. “I had to be careful not to lose it or damage it, and it was incredibly heavy to carry around all the time.”

Despite the challenges of traveling with the Million Dollar Championship, DiBiase fondly remembers his time as the “Million Dollar Man” and the impact the title had on his wrestling career. He even joked that he had to hire a personal assistant just to help him transport the title from one location to another.

In the end, DiBiase’s Million Dollar Championship may have been a headache to travel with, but it will always hold a special place in wrestling history as one of the most iconic and extravagant title belts of all time.

  • Brock Anderson Explains Why He Turned Down AEW Contract Renewal

Brock Anderson recently revealed that he turned down a potential AEW contract extension, due in part to the amount of guaranteed dates being too low.

Anderson debuted in AEW in June 2021 and wrestled sporadically for the company. His last AEW match was on the August 12th, 2023, episode of AEW Collision. He confirmed his departure from the company in October 2023.

During a recent appearance on K & S WrestleFest, the former AEW talent revealed that about two years into his contract, he knew he wasn’t on the path that he wanted to be on in AEW. (H/t POST Wrestling for the transcription)

“About two years in probably,” said Anderson of his realization. “Hindsight’s 20/20. It was like a brand new company. They’d only done a handful of TVs before COVID, and then they went into COVID. So, in one sense, it was the best place for me to be because it’s not like I could be out on the indies. They weren’t running. So, at least I was there and when I was there, Cody (Rhodes) was there and we were in Jacksonville at the Daily’s Place right next to the Jaguars stadium. During the day, like, TV days, they would have all the young guys out there and we would roll around and… some of the boys watching and they’re like, ‘Hey, that was good. This was bad.’

“So in that respect, it was good, and like I said, it was a newish company and we’re in the middle of a global pandemic. We didn’t know if we were gonna develop a training center or any of that because it’s early so you’re just like, alright, we’re just gonna keep doing this and see what happens and surely, God, maybe getting a training center or see how they do — bring us along, and then, once we got out of the pandemic, we were rocking and rolling, hitting towns every week and it was just TVs, and that school never came.”

    Brock Anderson Wanted Repetitions

Anderson went on to note that AEW wanted to extend his deal, but it was not enough, as he wanted more guaranteed dates.

“So, after just doing those five-minute Universal (Orlando) matches, you can’t really get better doing that. It’s too short of a time. You don’t learn how to wrestle,” Anderson said. “So, after about a year and a half — it’s great, I love everybody there, I appreciate the opportunity they gave me; Tony (Khan) and everybody. It’s just, where I was, I needed to be somewhere where I could actually get repetitions and learn the business.

“So, they sent me another — they wanted to redo the current deal I was on. It was not enough so I was like, ‘Maybe we just don’t do this and maybe we just go our separate ways,’ and I think it was the best decision I made, because if I just stay there and worked the five, six times a year that I was guaranteed, I would never have the mentor I got sitting to my left (C.W. Anderson), and all the knowledge I’ve soaked up in that short amount of time.”

  • Damon Wayans Explains Why He Did ‘SNL’ Sketch Stunt That Got Him Fired

Damon Wayans said in a recent episode of the “SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night” docuseries that he sabotaged his stint on “Saturday Night Live” in frustration over the sketch roles he was being offered. (Watch the video below.)

The matter came to a boil when Wayans went rogue during a sketch called “Mr. Monopoly” in 1986. Wayans played his cop character as an effeminate gay cliche, which was not what was rehearsed.

“I snapped. I just did not care. I purposefully did that because I wanted [Lorne Michaels] to fire me,” he said, per Deadline on Thursday.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Griffin Dunne, who appeared in the skit, said of the off-script stunt, “I thought it was weird, but people still laughed.”

Michaels said he canned him midseason because “it had to be done,” EW noted.

Before his unauthorized improv, Wayans said in the doc he was warned by “SNL” great Eddie Murphy that as a Black man he would be pigeonholed into certain characters, so he’d better write his own, Deadline reported.

But his attempts were rejected and he was given parts that would embarrass him in front of his mother, he said.

The hard feelings didn’t last forever. Wayans was invited back to do standup in the 1985-86 season finale and returned as a guest host in 1995.

“Lorne is a very forgiving man and I think he just wanted to let me know that he believed in me,” Wayans added, per the Independent.

Wayans of course went on to star in the groundbreaking sketch series “In Living Color.” He now has a new sitcom on CBS called “Poppa’s House.”

Sign up for Peacock to stream NBCU shows.

Damon Wayans has finally opened up about the controversial stunt he pulled during his time on Saturday Night Live that ultimately led to his firing from the show. In a recent interview, the comedian explained the reasoning behind his decision to go off-script and improvise during a sketch, which ultimately crossed the line and resulted in his dismissal.

Wayans revealed that he felt constrained by the limitations of the show and wanted to push boundaries and take risks in his comedy. He saw the opportunity to break free from the constraints of the script and deliver something unexpected and memorable to the audience. While he acknowledged that his actions were reckless and ultimately led to his firing, Wayans stood by his decision to take a chance and make a statement with his performance.

Despite the consequences of his actions, Wayans remains unapologetic for his decision and views it as a learning experience that helped shape his comedic style and approach to his work. He expressed gratitude for his time on SNL and the opportunities it provided him, but ultimately felt that he needed to take a stand and assert his creative freedom.

While the incident may have cost Wayans his job on SNL, it also solidified his reputation as a bold and daring comedian willing to take risks and challenge the status quo in pursuit of his craft. Ultimately, Wayans’ decision to push boundaries and defy expectations may have been controversial, but it also cemented his place as a groundbreaking and influential figure in the world of comedy.

  • Tom Pestock (Baron Corbin) Explains Why He Was Upset After A Writer Said, ‘We Need Bodies For Jacob Fatu’

Tom Pestock (Baron Corbin) was utilized in a variety of ways during his 12-year run in WWE, filling a role from the top of the card to the bottom of the card.

Pestock often put over top guys who were on their way or already established as world championship talent.

Adam Cole And Costco Guys (Big Boom! AJ And Big Justice) Bring The Boom To AEW Collision: Homecoming

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Pestock recalled a conversation with a writer who used a term that he was not thrilled with.

“I almost lost it one time. I was so angry, and I don’t get angry that easy over stuff like this. I try not to let people control my emotions. I was sitting with the head writer of SmackDown, and it still makes my blood boil because it doesn’t pertain just to me, but I was like, ‘Do we have any ideas? What are you thinking creatively?’ He’s like, ‘We have Jacob [Fatu] up and running. We’re going to need bodies for him.’ We’re not bodies. Nobody on this roster is just a body. That was so frustrating to hear. It doesn’t pertain to me, but this is what you think of? I’ve been here 12 years and I’m a body for somebody else? If you want to say something like that, go, ‘We think you’d be great to help build Jacob. You’d make him look like a monster.’ Let’s go. ‘We’re going to need bodies.’ He’s referring to the bottom half of our roster. It’s so disrespectful to say that about people who go out there and put their life on the line every night. Careers can be ended in an instant. Look at Big E. One suplex wrong and he may never wrestle again. It can end like that. You can end up a quadriplegic; all of these things can happen. It’s your livelihood and how you put food on the table.

“I’m grateful to have a long career that I don’t have to worry about that. If you’re three years in and just a body and disregarded as not even a human being, in a sense, come on. It takes everybody. Guys who are there to be extras are just as important as talent. Without those guys, we don’t have major superstars. You need guys that can do that and do it well. That’s harder sometimes than being the top guy when everything is fed to you, and you’re given every opportunity, and you’re built on this pedestal. When you’re the dude clawing at the bottom trying to get there, it’s way harder to be down there and survive and be happy and successful than to be ‘this is our guy and everything funnels to him.’ That’s easy to be up there. The only hard part is the amount of time it takes. When you’re put on a pedestal, it’s much easier than being a guy fighting for those two or three minutes. To refer to them as bodies….I said something and he was like, ‘I didn’t think of how I said it that way.’”

Pestock never faced Fatu in WWE.

Elsewhere during the interview, Pestock explained why Baron Corbin is dead. You can find his full comments by clicking here.

Tom Pestock, better known as WWE superstar Baron Corbin, recently opened up about a situation that left him feeling upset and disrespected. In a recent interview, Pestock revealed that he was approached by a writer who told him, “We need bodies for Jacob Fatu.”

The comment caught Pestock off guard and left him feeling frustrated. He explained that being referred to as just a “body” for another wrestler made him feel like he was being reduced to nothing more than a prop in someone else’s story.

Pestock emphasized that he takes pride in his work and always strives to deliver the best performance possible in the ring. Being treated as expendable and replaceable was a blow to his morale and passion for the sport.

While Pestock understands that wrestling is a collaborative effort and that each wrestler plays a role in elevating their opponent, he believes that every wrestler should be respected and valued for their contributions to the industry.

In response to the incident, Pestock made it clear that he will not tolerate being treated as just a “body” and that he expects to be treated with the same level of respect and professionalism as any other wrestler.

Fans have rallied behind Pestock, showing their support and appreciation for his dedication to his craft. Pestock’s willingness to speak out against injustices in the industry has only further endeared him to his fans and solidified his reputation as a true professional in the world of professional wrestling.

  • Nets legend Vince Carter explains how franchise set him up for HOF

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets have had some great players come through the franchise since even before the team moved from New Jersey to Brooklyn. The organization was able to do something special for one of its former players by retiring Vince Carter’s number during Saturday’s game against the Miami Heat and he explained how his time with the team set him up to be a Hall-of-Famer.

“A lot of it goes to Jason Kidd. And I’ve got to give L-Frank (former head coach Lawrence Frank) some love, too. But I think, like I said after that – after that lob, him knowing that I was willing to do whatever; after the game-winner in Toronto off the handoff – if he didn’t know, he learned that I was not afraid of the moment,” Carter said. Carter made it a point during his press conference to give credit to those who helped him along the way, including Kidd, one of the greatest point guards that the game of basketball has ever seen.

“I wasn’t afraid to fail. And when I did, I wanted more. I wanted the opportunity again,” Carter continued. “I just felt comfortable in the moment and I was not afraid of those moments. And then it got worse because of a guy named Jason Kidd who wasn’t afraid of any pass in the game. He didn’t care about a turnover because he probably had – well, there’s no probably – had more assist and turnovers. And we started to work together and I started to understand, we were just starting to figure out he’s on a fast break if i can’t catch up, guess who’s wheeling around for the deep 3? And it was a weapon. And it’s used today now, but it was used in yesteryears as well.”

Carter and Kidd were teammates on two different teams: the Nets from 2004 to 2008 and the Dallas Mavericks during 2011-12 season. In the four seasons that Carter and Kidd played together in New Jersey, the franchise went to the playoffs in three out of those four seasons and they were able to make it to the second round of the playoffs thanks to how well the two played together.

The 2011-12 season, the year after the Mavericks won the NBA championship, Dallas saw a team with Carter and Kidd make it back to the playoffs before losing in the first round as the Mavericks were aging out of the players that had gotten them so far the year before. Throughout all of that, Carter doesn’t forget to pay respect to those who helped him along the way, including Kidd.

Nets legend Vince Carter explains how franchise set him up for Hall of Fame

In a recent interview, Vince Carter, known for his high-flying dunks and electrifying performances during his time with the New Jersey Nets, reflected on how the franchise played a crucial role in setting him up for a Hall of Fame career.

Carter, who was recently inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, credited the Nets organization for providing him with the platform and support to showcase his talents and elevate his game to new heights.

“They believed in me from the moment I arrived in New Jersey and they gave me the opportunity to showcase my skills and grow as a player,” Carter said. “The coaching staff, my teammates, and the fans all played a crucial role in my development and success with the Nets.”

During his time with the Nets, Carter became a fan favorite and established himself as one of the most dynamic and versatile players in the league. He was a key contributor to the team’s success and helped lead them to multiple playoff appearances.

“I will always be grateful to the Nets organization for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to compete at the highest level,” Carter added. “They helped shape me into the player and person I am today, and I am honored to have represented such a storied franchise.”

As Carter continues to bask in the glory of his Hall of Fame induction, he remains grateful for the role the Nets played in helping him achieve this remarkable milestone in his career. The bond between Carter and the Nets will forever be cherished, as both parties played an integral role in each other’s success.

  • “The reason why…” – Maresca explains why he keeps bringing up player in press conferences

“The reason why…” – Maresca explains why he keeps bringing up player in press conferences

“The reason why…” – Maresca explains why he keeps bringing up player in press conferences

As always when you have a big game on Sky Sports, there was an in depth chat with the managers released on the day of the game, and we’ve now got this week’s edition.

One of the most interesting parts of Enzo Maresca’s chat with Patrick Davidson was his discussion about Noni Madueke. Madueke has been the figurehead of Maresca’s man management in his time at Chelsea.

He’s been very kind and complimentary, but also happy to criticise him publicly, leave him out of the team for tactical reasons, and even punish him for poor training performances.

But the Italian coach never goes overboard, and is always careful to make sure there’s at least as much carrot as stick on offer.

You can see Maresca talking about his winger in the clip embedded here:

“The reason why I spoke many times about Noni, is because I consider him a top player. And the only thing I want from top players is the best from them. And this is the reason why many I times I mention Noni,” Maresca explained when asked why the England winger was such a common topic in his press conferences.

“But also in terms of numbers, I think he scored already 6 goals in the Premier League, he did many different assists. So in terms of numbers he’s doing fantastic. I think it’s just his second [full] Premier League season. He’s 22, very young, so he can only improve. But he need to do the right things.”

Madueke needed more than ever today

Noni Madueke smiles in training. (Photo by Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC)Noni Madueke smiles in training. (Photo by Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC)

Noni Madueke smiles in training. (Photo by Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC)

We need Madueke to step up again today. For all their quality, Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho aren’t delivering the goals and assists that the former PSV man has, and today we need his clinical edge in front of goal if we’re to win any points off Man City.

The reason why Maresca keeps bringing up players in press conferences

As a coach, Maresca knows the importance of individual players in a team’s success. By highlighting specific players in press conferences, he is not only recognizing their hard work and dedication but also motivating them to continue performing at their best. Maresca understands that players thrive on positive reinforcement and public acknowledgment, which is why he consistently praises their efforts in front of the media. This not only boosts the players’ confidence but also fosters a strong sense of camaraderie within the team. So the next time you hear Maresca singling out a player in a press conference, remember that it’s all part of his strategy to keep his team motivated and united.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch explains how a near-death experience in South Africa changed the way he looks at life

    CNN
     —

Benedict Cumberbatch has played a superhero involved in some precarious situations, but it turns out the actor has also experienced an actual life-threatening situation in his past.

In an interview with Variety published this week, the “Doctor Strange” star revealed that in 2004, he was with friends in South Africa while shooting the BBC miniseries “To the Ends of the Earth,” when they were robbed and abducted by six men after their tire blew out on the side of a road. Eventually, Cumberbatch and his friends were tied up and made to sit execution-style before the men finally fled.

“It gave me a sense of time, but not necessarily a good one,” Cumberbatch said of the experience. “It made me impatient to live a life less ordinary, and I’m still dealing with that impatience.”

He also explained how the harrowing encounter spurred him to try extreme things to get his adrenaline up.

“The near-death stuff turbo-fueled all that,” he said. “It made me go, ‘Oh, right, yeah, I could die at any moment.’ I was throwing myself out of planes, taking all sorts of risks.”

“But apart from my parents, I didn’t have any real dependents at that point. Now that’s changed, and that sobers you,” he added, in reference to his wife and three sons. “I’ve looked over the edge; it’s made me comfortable with what lies beneath it. And I’ve accepted that that’s the end of all our stories.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Cumberbatch reflected on his abilities as an actor, and responded to his Marvel Cinematic Universe cohort Tom Holland crediting him with learning how to cry on command, obliquely referencing some of his past traumatic experiences.

“There is that method, but it’s a mistake to think you can force it. That’s a dead end,” he said of the technique touted by Holland, which involves breathing through the diaphragm while manipulating the muscles used to laugh. “You have to really put your mind somewhere so you can respond to the moment. And that can mean drawing from your own life story or just your imagination.”

“It’s harder when you’re very young. I’m 48, so I’ve lived a bit of life,” Cumberbatch added. “I’ve experienced loss, I’ve experienced pain, I’ve experienced some of the very worst, as well as the best.”

Benedict Cumberbatch has always been known for his talent on screen, but in a recent interview, he opened up about a life-changing event that happened to him while filming in South Africa. The actor shared how a near-death experience during a hiking trip in the wilderness completely shifted his perspective on life.

Cumberbatch described the harrowing incident, explaining how he and a small group of friends had decided to explore a remote area of the South African landscape. However, their adventure took a dangerous turn when they got lost and ran out of supplies. As night fell and temperatures dropped, the group found themselves in a life-threatening situation.

“It was a moment of sheer panic and fear,” Cumberbatch recalled. “We were completely lost, with no way of contacting help. It was a stark reminder of how fragile life can be.”

Fortunately, after a night of uncertainty and fear, the group was eventually rescued by local authorities. But the experience left a profound impact on Cumberbatch, prompting him to reevaluate his priorities and outlook on life.

“I realized how precious every moment is, and how easily it can all be taken away,” he said. “It made me appreciate the simple joys of life and the importance of cherishing every moment with loved ones.”

Since then, Cumberbatch has made a conscious effort to live in the present and focus on what truly matters to him. The near-death experience in South Africa served as a wake-up call for the actor, inspiring him to approach life with a newfound sense of gratitude and mindfulness.

As fans of Cumberbatch, we can all learn from his story and remember to appreciate the small moments in life that bring us joy. Benedict Cumberbatch’s near-death experience may have been terrifying, but it ultimately taught him a valuable lesson about the fragility of life and the importance of living each day to the fullest.

Recently, Camila Cabello performed to a nearly empty arena in Atlanta, leaving many fans and critics wondering what went wrong. However, an insider close to the situation has shed some light on why this may have happened.

According to the insider, there were several factors at play that led to the low turnout at the concert. One major reason was the lack of promotion for the event. The concert was not widely advertised, and many fans may not have even been aware that Camila Cabello was performing in Atlanta.

  • Cal Fire explains strategies for fighting fires near the U.S.-Mexico border

CBS 8 spoke with Cal Fire San Diego on how crews battle fires that happen on the Mexico side of the U.S.-Mexico border.

SAN DIEGO — South of the U.S.-Mexico border, Tijuana saw a blanket of thick smoke Tuesday. With Tijuana just miles from San Diego, CBS 8 spoke to Cal Fire Capt. Robert Johnson about their response when it comes to fires near the border.

“We work with firefighters in Mexico,” Johnson said. “We actually have liaisons that communicate regularly between the firefighters in Mexico, and there have been multiple circumstances that our firefighters have went into Mexico to assist on fires as well.”

Johnson emphasized that each situation is assessed individually, and the response depends on where the fire is located and the direction it’s moving.

“If it is determined to be in Mexico, there are different types of responses we can send,” Johnson said. “Sometimes we’ll send a single engine just as a smoke check, to go investigate to kind of [get] a more accurate location of where the fire is, how close to the U.S. border it is and if it’s going to be a threat.”

Cal Fire has several tools to monitor and respond to fires, including the use of cameras. The cameras can help crews keep a close eye on fires throughout the state and into Mexico.

“We utilize cameras that are through Alert California and their partnership with Alert California and UCSD,” Johnson said.

Artificial Intelligence technology can also help crews spot potential fires.

“The AI technology is able to detect anomalies as they’re scanning,” Johnson said. “They are continually rotating and looking for anomalies. In the event it locates an anomaly, it will mark that, and someone can review it to review if that is smoke.”

Johnson recommends community members sign up for Alert San Diego and the Genasys Protect application.

Cal Fire, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, recently shared insights into their strategies for fighting fires near the U.S.-Mexico border. With the region facing unique challenges due to the rugged terrain and proximity to international boundaries, Cal Fire has developed specialized tactics to effectively combat wildfires in this area.

One of the key strategies employed by Cal Fire is collaboration with Mexican firefighting agencies. By working together and sharing resources, both countries can better respond to and contain fires that cross the border. This partnership allows for a coordinated and efficient approach to firefighting efforts, ensuring that fires are contained quickly and effectively.

In addition to international collaboration, Cal Fire also emphasizes the importance of community outreach and education. By educating residents about fire prevention and preparedness, they can help reduce the risk of wildfires and ensure that communities are better equipped to respond in the event of a fire. This proactive approach is crucial in the fight against wildfires near the border.

Furthermore, Cal Fire utilizes advanced technology and aerial resources to aid in firefighting efforts. Drones, helicopters, and other aircraft are deployed to provide real-time information and support to firefighters on the ground. This technology allows for more accurate mapping of fires and helps to guide strategic decision-making during firefighting operations.

Overall, Cal Fire’s strategies for fighting fires near the U.S.-Mexico border highlight the importance of collaboration, education, and innovation in wildfire management. By employing these tactics, Cal Fire is better equipped to protect communities and natural resources in this challenging region.
