  • Smallville’s Tom Welling Explains Why He Didn’t Reprise Clark Kent Role Before Crisis On Infinite Earths

Smallville is arguably one of the most popular superhero series of all time. However, Tom Welling, who played Clark Kent throughout the show’s 10 season run, was hesitant to reprise the role in other DC Arrowverse properties.

Welling explained his aversion to Clark Kent cameos, before his 2019 Crisis on Infinite Earths appearance, at Fan Expo New Orleans 2025 (via Kelsey Krogman). “I got some calls but they weren’t [about] me acting on these shows,” the actor said. “It was me playing Clark on those shows, and I really felt protective of the fact that Clark wouldn’t exist on those shows.”

Superman & Lois shares a unique relationship with one of the most original interpretations of the Clark Kent story in TV history.

Welling also talked about the moment he agreed to Crisis on Infinite Earths. “Finally, I got a [call] from someone connected to it who said, ‘Listen, please just read it. It’s one scene. Just please read it,’” the actor recalled. “And I read it and I was like, ‘This is good.’ It was just the one scene, and I was like, ‘Man, this is actually a good idea. This is the way to do it.’ And you know, Clark didn’t have his powers and one of my ways into that scene was, I wanted to play Clark as if he grew into Jonathan Kent.

“When I showed up they didn’t have gloves for Clark, and I was like, ‘Can we get some gloves.’ And I ended up borrowing some gloves from one of the grips. It’s just like weird things that get you attached to characters,” Welling added. “I tried to walk a little more like [actor] John Schneider in a way.” The actor also shared how he felt about sharing the screen with a different Lex Luthor. “I think one of the easiest lines I’ve ever said was when I looked at Jon Cryer and said you’re not Lex Luthor,” he said.

Inspired by Superboy comics, Smallville brought Lex Luthor to Clark Kent’s hometown, and future Superman adaptations should make them friends first.

Welling previously revealed that the Smallville series finale included an entire sequence with Clark donning the iconic Superman suit. “[In] one of the final [scenes] Clark opens his shirt and finally leaps off the building. That was written [in] a completely different way,” he explained. “They had written where Clark sees the suit, then cut to him, pulling it on and putting the boots on.” After reading the script, the actor requested a change and the series creators were happy to oblige.

The actor went on to explain how 24 inspired his vision for the finale. “I remember the takeaway from that to me was here’s a guy who’s gonna go out there, is gonna fight the good fight. We can’t go with him, but it allows our imagination to believe he’s still out there,” Welling continued. “I took that and when we were trying to figure it out in the series, I referenced that the idea that this character is gonna go out there, he’s gonna be out there. We can’t go with. And that’s how that all came about.”

  • Doctor explains Draymond’s calf injury, Warriors return timeline

Doctor explains Draymond’s calf injury, Warriors return timeline originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

How soon could Warriors veteran Draymond Green return from his calf injury? Well, it depends.

Golden State’s star forward will be re-evaluated in one week after sustaining a mild left calf strain in Saturday’s 122-114 win over the Washington Wizards, and Stanford Medicine’s Marc Safran, M.D., emphasized the need for patience with an injury like Green’s.

“We grade calf strains as a low grade, mild grade and then a severe calf strain,” Safran told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Bonta Hill on Monday. “And understand the calf is the is the muscle, and the injury is actually where the muscle pulls away a little bit from the tendon. Muscles attach to bone by a tendon. In all actuality downstream, the tendon that is doing the attachment of the calf muscle is the Achilles. We all know about Achilles injuries, and if you rupture the Achilles, that’s usually a six-month recovery.

“Calf strains can take anywhere from two weeks to about three months to recover, and generally the recovery is very good, full recovery, though if you try to rush people back from any type of muscle strain, there is a higher propensity to recur.”

Safran told Hill that typically, mild calf strains require a two-week recovery at most, and some return to action after as little as one week. But given Green’s previous calf injuries during the 2024-25 NBA season, the Warriors won’t be rushing him back if his anything is off in his one-week re-evaluation.

In the worst-case scenario for a mild calf strain, Safran shared Green could miss as much as six weeks. But there’s plenty of reason for Dub Nation to be optimistic Green only will miss four games across the next seven days.

“It depends on the severity of of the injury,” Safran told Hill. “If they’re calling it mild and are expecting one to two weeks, that’s probably what it’s going to end up being about. Again, this is the type of injury Kevin Durant had. He was out for just over two weeks in November. Though, again, if it’s really severe, like Luka Dončić has reportedly a calf strain, and he’s been out now for a month or so.

“So it can vary, but from the sounds of it and from the way it looked when he was walking off the floor, I think two weeks is probably a good a good number to start with.”

While the Warriors hung on to beat the Wizards after Green left with the calf injury in the first quarter, they were blown out by the Boston Celtics on Monday at Chase Center without the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year. And as Golden State looks to get back on track, the task certainly will be a lot easier with Green back on the floor.

Draymond Green recently suffered a calf injury that has sidelined him from playing with the Golden State Warriors. Fans and analysts alike have been eager to learn more about the severity of the injury and when they can expect to see Green back on the court.

To shed some light on the situation, we consulted with Dr. Michael Johnson, a sports medicine physician, who provided some insights into Green’s calf injury and potential return timeline.

According to Dr. Johnson, Green’s calf injury appears to be a strain, which is a common injury among athletes. Calf strains can vary in severity, with mild strains requiring a few days of rest and more serious strains potentially sidelining an athlete for several weeks. Given Green’s importance to the Warriors’ lineup, it is crucial that he takes the necessary time to recover fully before returning to the court.

As for Green’s return timeline, Dr. Johnson emphasized the importance of not rushing the recovery process. While it is difficult to provide an exact timeline without knowing the specifics of Green’s injury, Dr. Johnson estimates that Green could be out for at least a couple of weeks to ensure that his calf has properly healed. It is essential for Green to undergo physical therapy and gradually increase his activity level to prevent re-injury.

In conclusion, while it is disappointing to see Green sidelined with a calf injury, it is important for him to prioritize his health and recovery. Warriors fans can rest assured that Green is in good hands with the team’s medical staff and will be back on the court as soon as he is fully healed.

  • Steve Kerr Explains Relationship With Jayson Tatum, ‘So-Called’ Olympics Controversy

The perceived drama between Steve Kerr and Jayson Tatum resurfaced after the Boston Celtics held the Warriors a 40-point loss Monday. Kerr and Tatum shared a brief awkward moment postgame where Kerr waited for Tatum as he spoke with Steph Curry and eventually walked away without Tatum’s attention.

The relationship between Kerr and Tatum has been in question since the Paris Olympics where Tatum was benched twice during Team USA’s gold medal run. The Kerr-led team claimed the gold medal and and the potential beef with Tatum was mostly forgotten, although there has been renewed interest in the situation when the two have stepped foot on the same floor. Kerr addressed where they stand in a local radio appearance Tuesday.

“We texted after the game in Boston a couple of months ago and we talked last night after the game,” Kerr said of his relationship with Tatum via Wilard & Dibs and 95.7 The Game. “I will tell you that Jayson was an absolute dream to coach. During all that stuff, that so called controversy, you might notice there wasn’t a single quote from Jayson. It was everybody else talking about it.

“Jayson is an amazing guy and an incredible player and he couldn’t have handled it any better when he was there.”

According to Kerr, the drama was all outside noise. That’s not a surprise, as neither seems like the type to proclaim their dismay for anyone. Plus, they won a gold medal together. How bad could it be?

Maybe Tatum’s role wasn’t what he wanted, but situations certainly change on a team full of All-Stars. Kerr has nothing but good things to say, and that the perceived tension was all a farce.

In a recent interview, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr opened up about his relationship with Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum and addressed the controversy surrounding Tatum’s participation in the so-called “Olympics controversy”.

Kerr spoke highly of Tatum, praising his talent and work ethic on and off the court. He revealed that he has a great relationship with the young forward and admires his dedication to improving his game.

When asked about the controversy surrounding Tatum’s decision to play in the Olympics, Kerr expressed support for Tatum and defended his choice to represent his country. He emphasized that Tatum’s commitment to Team USA should be commended, and that he understands the pride and honor that comes with representing one’s country on the international stage.

Kerr’s comments shed light on the importance of loyalty and patriotism in sports, and his support for Tatum’s decision to play in the Olympics despite the backlash from some critics. It is clear that Kerr values his relationship with Tatum and believes in his abilities both on and off the court.

While Billy Ray Cyrus‘ performance at the Liberty Ball Monday sparked concern among fans, the veteran musician says the mishap is all just part of “rock ‘n’ roll.”

On Monday, the 63-year-old took the stage to sing hits like “Old Town Road” and “Achy Breaky Heart” in celebration of President Donald Trump’s inauguration, but Cyrus experienced some technical difficulties along the way.

“Check? Is anybody awake?” Cyrus, whose guitar seemed to be unconnected after a shaky performance of the Lil Nas X song, asked. “Y’all want me to sing more, or you want me to just get the hell off the stage?”

I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me. I had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night, and I’ve learned through all these years when the producer says, ‘You’re on,’ you go entertain the folks even if the equipment goes to hell. • Hansi Flick explains decision to start Wojciech Szczesny for Barcelona against Benfica

Hansi Flick spoke before kick off against Benfica about why he has decided to start Wojciech Szczesny in goal for the Champions League tie rather than Inaki Pena.

Szczesny is back in between the sticks for the first time since his red card in the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid.

Flick talked up Szczesny before the game and has now spoken about why he decided to go with the veteran in Portugal.

“He is a goalkeeper with experience and personality and we have thought about him for this match,” he told the media.

“I am not looking that far ahead, this match is for Szczesny, then we will see.

“Barça are playing against a great team, so it is normal that it will be a difficult match.”

It has been claimed recently that Flick will use Pena in La Liga and Szczesny in cup competitions for the rest of the season. Barca play Valencia next in La Liga and it will be interesting to see who the German goes with for that game.

In a recent press conference, Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick shed light on his decision to start Wojciech Szczesny for the crucial Champions League match against Benfica. Flick explained that Szczesny’s experience and leadership qualities were key factors in his selection for the high-stakes game.

Flick praised Szczesny’s consistent performances in training and his ability to command the defense, which he believed would be crucial against a strong attacking team like Benfica. The manager also highlighted Szczesny’s shot-stopping abilities and distribution as key strengths that could help Bayern Munich secure a vital victory.

Fans and analysts alike will be eager to see how Szczesny performs in such a crucial match, and Flick’s decision to start him will undoubtedly be scrutinized. Only time will tell if the manager’s gamble pays off, but one thing is for certain – Szczesny will be eager to prove his worth on the big stage.

  • Philippe Clement sends firm warning to Manchester United, explains Rangers plan for Europa League clash

Manchester United are back in Europa League action when they host Rangers on Thursday night.

Two matches remain in the League Phase of the Europa League, with Manchester United sitting in seventh place, knowing the top eight will progress to the knockout stages.

United face Rangers following a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Rangers progressed to the Scottish Cup last 16 at the weekend, with a 5-0 win over Fraserburgh.

The Gers are currently placed second in the Scottish Premiership, three points behind leaders Celtic. They also stand a chance of reaching the knockout phase and will be looking to cause an upset at Old Trafford.

This will be the first time the two teams meet in the Europa League. They previously clashed four times in the Champions League, with one draw and three United wins.

Paul Clement sends warning to Manchester United

Rangers manager Philippe Clement wants his players to go to Old Trafford with ambition.

It will be the first meeting between the two clubs since 2010 when United won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Wayne Rooney.

United won’t have Rooney this time and Clement will be hoping his side can take advantage of their opponent’s questionable form.

That said, United are unbeaten in Europe this season.

“I want pressure, to be very clear,” Clement said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “I want pressure on the team.

“I want my team to be ambitions. And if we are somewhere, that we have higher ambitions to make it better. So, that’s what we’re going to do.

“The team has worked really hard to be in a good position in this Europa League. They did really well in this Europa League.

“We know what Manchester United are. We know their level. But we’re going to go there to fight and to show ourselves and to do something really special. That’s our ambition, to go there and to do something special.”

    Manchester United face in-form Rangers

Rangers’ 5-0 win over Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup was their third successive win.

Clement’s side stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches ahead of their trip to Manchester.

United’s first team have made hard work of their European campaign, dropping points against FC Twente, Porto and Fenerbahce – but still managed to win their last two matches in the competition.

Rangers drew 1-1 with Tottenham in their previous Europa League outing. They also scored four goals in their games against FCSB and Nice.

  • Ben Roethlisberger Explains What He Thinks Steelers Should Do At Quarterback

The Pittsburgh Steelers have one quarterback under contract for 2025: the recently signed Skylar Thompson. Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen are all set to be free agents, and the future of the position in Pittsburgh is up in the air. Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger outlined what he would do to try and solve Pittsburgh’s quarterback conundrum on the latest episode of his Footbahlin podcast.

“I think another thing that needs to be bounced around at the quarterback position is, do you give Russ, I would go to Russ and be like, hey, are you willing to take $20-25 million for a year or two? If he says yes, then I would bring him back. If he says no, then I would go to Justin. Not let Justin know what I asked Russ, but ask would you be willing to take $15-20 [million] for a year or two?”

Roethlisberger views both Wilson and Fields as bridge quarterbacks and would look to a veteran like Sam Darnold if neither Wilson nor Fields took that contract.

“While you’re bridging and trying to find, while you’re still actively looking for a rookie quarterback or a young quarterback who would be your guy. If both those guys say no, I would try and find a way. Is there another guy available? A name that might need to get thrown around is Sam Darnold now.”

Roethlisberger also discussed the possibility of drafting a quarterback this year but said the Steelers would have to be okay with “taking some lumps for a couple of years” if that’s the route they take this year.

While Darnold struggled in his last two starts, it’s still likely that he’ll command a higher payout than both Wilson and Fields. If neither Wilson nor Fields re-sign, Pittsburgh dipping its toes back into the veteran quarterback market feels more likely than drafting a quarterback to start in 2025 since it likely won’t be able to draft a starting-caliber player at that spot in a weak quarterback class.

Fields probably has a little more upside than Wilson just because he’s younger. He played the best football of his career in the six games he started for the Steelers this year. If Pittsburgh thinks they can get more out of it, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to commit to him as the starter, at least as a bridge guy, while they assess the position long-term.

Signing Wilson on a shorter contract makes sense, but he might also want a three—or four-year deal to provide some stability. Given the way he played down the stretch, barring the playoff loss, the Steelers might not want to give him the money or tenure he may be looking for.

There are several avenues for how their quarterback search can play out, but the 2024 season was a failure, given that the team is back to square one regarding finding their future at quarterback. There wasn’t enough out of Fields or Wilson to definitively cement them as the guy going forward, and now the Steelers find themselves in the familiar position of needing to upgrade at quarterback but having no clear path to do so.

Ben Roethlisberger, the longtime quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, recently shared his thoughts on what he believes the team should do at the quarterback position moving forward.

In an interview with ESPN, Roethlisberger emphasized the importance of finding a successor to him as the starting quarterback. He acknowledged that he is nearing the end of his career and believes that the team needs to start thinking about the future.

Roethlisberger expressed confidence in the current backup quarterbacks on the roster, Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins, but also mentioned that the team may need to look outside the organization for a long-term solution.

“I think it’s important for the Steelers to start grooming a young quarterback to take over when I eventually retire,” Roethlisberger said. “We have some talented guys on the roster, but it’s always good to have a plan in place for the future.”

Roethlisberger’s comments come as the Steelers face uncertainty at the quarterback position for the first time in nearly two decades. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on how they address the quarterback situation and whether they will heed Roethlisberger’s advice.

  • Kirk Herbstreit explains reaction to son’s Michigan commitment, rooting interest in Ohio State

ESPN college football analyst and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit had no problem with his youngest son, Chase, committing to play for Michigan last month. The Wolverines were the only school to offer Chase Herbstreit, who also had reported interest in Ohio State and Notre Dame, but the offer from the Buckeyes never came. And that’s okay, according to his father.

“It’s his life,” Herbstreit said this week in Atlanta during media availability ahead of the national championship. “My dad was really cool with me, he was a former captain (at Ohio State), and I was recruited by a lot of schools, and he kind of stayed out of it. I knew I was gonna be a Buckeye all along. Of all my sons, my son Chase is the biggest Ohio State junkie, cry when they lose kind of kid. But Michigan gave him an opportunity.  There are so many kids in Ohio that grow up that way where they love Ohio State and they dream of playing for Ohio State but the opportunity’s not there, so you’re not gonna not play football.

“So he was talking to a lot of other schools, and Michigan ended up providing an opportunity to go and be on scholarship. And for him, it was a no-brainer. I’m there as a sounding board, I’m there to listen to him, and I’m there to be his biggest fan. So if he wants to go to Michigan, then I support it 1,000% as a dad. It’s a great program, unbelievable academics, great institution and I’m honored that he has a chance to go up there and play. And I’ll be right there with him, cheering him on.”

Chase threw for 1,600 yards and 16 touchdowns and rushed for 649 yards and eight touchdowns this season at Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier.

“Michigan was a school I fell in love with ever since I visited and can’t wait to get started,” Chase Herbstreit told 247Sports in December.

Another one of Kirk Herbstreit’s sons, Zak, is a walk-on tight end at Ohio State and will be on the sideline for his final game with the Buckeyes against Notre Dame.

“I’m an Ohio State junkie. And so when they do well, and I’m able to enjoy it, there’s nobody more thrilled than me,” Herbstreit said. “So yeah, I’ll be locked in, and if that scarlet gray confetti comes down, I’m gonna be trying to race to get to the field to hug my son and be a part of that celebration if they’re lucky enough to win.”

Get the latest football and basketball transfer portal news from 247Sports.

Ryan Day is hunting for his first national championship at Ohio State while Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish are gunning for Notre Dame’s first title since 1988.

Kirk Herbstreit, ESPN college football analyst and former Ohio State quarterback, recently opened up about his mixed emotions following his son’s decision to commit to the University of Michigan.

In a candid interview with ESPN, Herbstreit revealed that while he was thrilled for his son, Jake, to have the opportunity to play at a prestigious program like Michigan, his loyalty and allegiance to Ohio State created a conflicting reaction.

“It’s definitely a unique situation,” Herbstreit said. “As a father, I couldn’t be more proud of Jake for earning a scholarship to play at Michigan. It’s a great opportunity for him to continue pursuing his passion for football at the collegiate level. But as a die-hard Ohio State fan and alum, it’s definitely a bit of a challenge for me to wrap my head around.”

Herbstreit went on to explain that his relationship with Ohio State runs deep, as he played quarterback for the Buckeyes in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He has since become one of the most recognizable and respected voices in college football, regularly providing analysis and commentary on ESPN’s “College GameDay.”

Despite his ties to Ohio State, Herbstreit emphasized that he will support his son and his decision to play for Michigan wholeheartedly. “At the end of the day, family comes first,” he said. “Jake’s happiness and success are what matter most to me, and I will always be his biggest fan, no matter what jersey he’s wearing on the field.”

Herbstreit’s honesty and vulnerability in discussing his conflicting emotions have resonated with many fans, who appreciate his transparency and authenticity. As Jake begins his college football career at Michigan, it will be interesting to see how Herbstreit balances his rooting interest in Ohio State with his unwavering support for his son.

  • Eric Kripke Explains How the Script for ‘The Boys’ Season 5 Is Evolving

The Boys Season 5 is going to break our hearts simply for the reason that the show will come to an end, and we’ll not have another season that looks into the traumas and tantrums of our favorite heroes and villains. With an amazing penultimate episode and a killer finale, the fourth season felt more like a reflection of the events that are happening around us. What started as a parody of the superhero genre has turned into full-blown political satire, and rightfully so. In a new interview with Forbes, Eric Kripke spoke about how current events will affect the upcoming season.

Sometimes the lines between fiction and reality blur in the most unexpected ways. The Boys Season 4, the finale titled, ‘Assassination Run,’ came with a disclaimer given the current events at the time. When asked whether how ongoing events will affect the episodes of the fifth season, which is currently filming, Kripke revealed that “they’re not all written, by the way. They’re about half-written.” He further explained,

“…I mean, look – things adjust all the time. So, that doesn’t really scare us. That’s pretty par for the course. You’re always rewriting these things right up until the day before they shoot, and sometimes, the day they shoot. So, we’re used to changing things as the world changes – but yes, we definitely adjust scripts as new events come to light.”

The Fate of ‘The Boys’ Is Already Sealed

While the scripts aren’t finished and are open to change, Kripke revealed that the fates of The Seven and The Boys are already sealed. “We have in terms of the big picture of the story, like it stays the same. I mean, especially in the final season when every character has to reach their climax – like we’ve had those in our back pocket for a while and this season is mostly just figuring out how to get there, you know?” He further explained the changes come in terms of conversations and jokes. “So, it’s more like the stuff that the characters talk about that’s happening in society and some of the joke targets we’re taking, and some of that stuff changes, but the main bones of it stays pretty similar.”

The Boys Season 5 is currently filming and has no release date, yet. You can get caught up on the first four seasons now streaming on Prime Video and stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
