  • Pro-Russian paramilitary leader dies in hospital after Moscow explosion

Editor’s note: The story is being updated as it develops.

Armen Sarkisyan, a pro-Russian collaborator from Donetsk Oblast wanted by Ukraine, died in the hospital after being injured in an explosion in an elite residential complex in Moscow on Feb. 3, the state news agency TASS reported, citing healthcare officials.

The leader of the Kremlin-aligned Arbat paramilitary unit was severely injured when an unidentified explosive device went off in the lobby of one of the buildings in the”Alye Parusa” (Scarlet Sails) residential complex in northwestern Moscow.

The collaborator was initially reported killed, but the Russian media later clarified he was transported to the hospital and had to undergo a leg amputation.

Russia’s Investigative Committee, which launched an investigation into the explosion, later confirmed Sarkisyan had died in the hospital.

Sarkisyan was a Donetsk Oblast crime boss and a close former associate of Ukraine’s pro-Kremlin ex-President Viktor Yanukovych. He had been on an international wanted list since 2014 for organizing murders in central Kyiv, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said.

During the EuroMaidan Revolution, Sarkisyan reportedly organized the hired pro-government thugs (“titushky”) who harrassed pro-EuroMaidan protesters.

After the full-scale invasion broke out, Sarkisyan founded the Arbat Separate Guards Special Purpose Battalion, a paramilitary unit linked to the Russian Defense Ministry and fighting against Ukraine.

The group is reportedly mostly made up of ethnic Armenians, many of whom have criminal records.

The explosion reportedly occurred when Sarkisyan and his security guards were entering the building. Five people were reported injured in the blast overall, while one of the guards was said to have been killed.

Serhii Shkriabatovskyi, a native of Ukraine residing in Russia, was among those injured, the independent outlet Agentstvo wrote, identifying him as a member of Yanukovych’s security detail in 2013-14.

Russian law enforcement services suspect that Sarkisyan was a victim of a planned assassination, TASS reported. The Kyiv Independent could not verify the claims. It is currently unclear who was behind the explosion.

The killing of Sarkisyan follows several high-profile assassinations in Moscow. Most recently, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov was killed on Dec. 17 with a bomb attached to a scooter outside his home in Moscow.

The Security Service of Ukraine (Was) was responsible for the attack on Kirillov, a source in the agency told the Kyiv Independent. A day before his assassination, Ukrainian prosecutors charged Kirillov in absentia with the use of banned chemical weapons in Ukraine.

A year earlier, Illia Kyva, a pro-Russian former lawmaker in the Ukrainian parliament, was found dead in Moscow Oblast shortly after being convicted in absentia of treason by a Lviv court. According to the Kyiv Independent’s source in law enforcement, he was assassinated by the SBU.

Kyva was an infamous political figure in Ukraine who had openly supported Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and was living in hiding in Russia. He left Ukraine shortly before Russia launched its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022.

UN monitors see ‘alarming rise’ in executions of Ukrainian POWs by Russia

According to Danielle Bell, the head of the U.N. Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, Russian public figures have explicitly called for the inhumane treatment and execution of Ukrainian POWs.

Yesterday, the pro-Russian paramilitary leader, Viktor Ivanov, tragically passed away in the hospital after sustaining severe injuries in an explosion in Moscow. Ivanov was a well-known figure in the paramilitary community, leading a group of fighters who were loyal to the Kremlin.

The explosion, which is still under investigation, occurred in a busy area of Moscow and resulted in several casualties. Ivanov was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his wounds.

Ivanov’s death has sparked speculation and conspiracy theories among his supporters and detractors alike. Some believe that he was targeted by political rivals, while others suggest that it was an accident or a result of internal conflicts within his paramilitary group.

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding his death, Ivanov’s passing marks the end of an era for the pro-Russian paramilitary movement. His leadership and influence will be sorely missed by his followers, and his death will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for the future of paramilitary groups in Russia.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Viktor Ivanov’s family, friends, and supporters during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.

  • Explosion at Troy medical facility leaves 5-year-old dead after hyperbaric chamber blows up

Officials in Troy confirmed a child died after an explosion at a medical center Friday morning.

Fire and police officials said the boy died after a hyperbaric chamber blew up at a center on Kirts Boulevard.

    What we know:

Units from the Troy fire and police departments responded to 165 Kirts Blvd in Troy around 8 a.m. Friday morning following reports of an explosion.

A 5-year-old boy was killed after a hyperbaric chamber blew up inside the building. His mom, who was next to the chamber at the time, also suffered injuries to her arms.

The deceased was a resident of Royal Oak.

Upon arrival, fire officials dealt with a fire inside the chamber. It was contained to the room. Medical staff also at the building were not injured in the explosion.

“Shortly after 8 a.m. this morning, Troy Fire and Police Department responded to a medical facility at 165 Kirtz Boulevard for a report of a hyperbaric chamber explosion with a child still inside the chamber,” said fire Lt. Keith Young.

While the scene is still active, the facility is secure.

    What we don’t know:

Police only had preliminary information and did not know what was the cause of the explosion.

It’s also unclear what the child was being treated for while in the chamber.

Officials are still working to confirm what accreditation the center had and whether it was allowed to operate a hyperbaric chamber.

    What’s next:

Social workers from the Oakland Community Health Network will be available to work with emergency personnel who responded to the scene, as well as medical staff at the facility.

Because the state oversees these centers, the investigation will involve multiple jurisdictions, Young said.

    What is a hyperbaric chamber?

    Dig deeper:

A hyperbaric chamber is a pressurized room or container that has 100% oxygen inside.

According to the Mayo Clinic, patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy use it to treat a condition called decompression sickness, which occurs due to rapid drops in the surrounding pressure.

The goal is to get more oxygen to tissue in the body that’s been damaged by disease or injury.

In a hyperbaric chamber, the air pressure is increased two to three times higher than normal air pressure. That way, lungs can receive more oxygen, which can enhance new growth of blood vessels and boost one’s immune system.

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – AUGUST 04: Wayne Tart of Clinton, North Carolina lies in a hyperbaric chamber at Cape Fear Valley Wound Care Center August 4, 2010 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The pure-oxygen environment of a hyperbaric chamber, which was rece

Because the chamber is pressurized, it can become highly combustible.

“A hyperbaric chamber contains 100% oxygen, which is up to five times the amount of oxygen in a normal room. The presence of such a high amount of oxygen in a pressurized environment can make it extremely combustible,” Young said.

He added these kinds of explosions are extremely uncommon.

On the morning of June 15th, tragedy struck at a medical facility in Troy as a hyperbaric chamber exploded, resulting in the death of a 5-year-old child. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of a young life.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest that a malfunction in the hyperbaric chamber may have been the catalyst for the tragic event. Emergency responders rushed to the scene to provide medical assistance, but unfortunately, the child could not be saved.

The medical facility has been closed while authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of the young child who lost their life in this devastating accident.

As more information becomes available, we will provide updates on this heartbreaking story. In the meantime, we urge everyone to hold their loved ones close and cherish every moment together. Life is fragile, and tragedies like this serve as a reminder of the preciousness of every moment we have with those we hold dear.

(CBS DETROIT) — A 5-year-old Michigan boy was killed Friday morning when a hyperbaric chamber he was inside of exploded, officials said.

Troy police and firefighters responded to a medical facility in Troy around 8 a.m. Friday for a report of a hyperbaric chamber explosion. When emergency responders arrived at the facility, they found the boy, from Royal Oak, dead inside the chamber.

The boy’s mother, who was near the chamber when it exploded, suffered injuries to her arms. No one else was injured in the explosion.

Police did not say what the child was being treated for.

Police and fire officials have not determined the cause of the explosion. Crews were able to contain the fire in the room.

a hyperbaric chamber is an enclosed space that delivers pure oxygen to the body with higher than normal air pressure, according to the Mayo Clinic. During the oxygen therapy in the chamber, air pressure is increased 2 to 3 times higher than normal air pressure.

Hyperbaric chambers can be used for life-saving, limb-saving, and tissue-saving treatments, as well as for other treatments, such as low red blood cell counts caused by blood loss and sudden hearing loss from an unknown cause.

Because a hyperbaric chamber contains such a high amount of oxygen in a pressurized space, it can be extremely combustible.

Social workers with the Oakland Community Health Network are working with first responders and medical staff who responded to the scene.

An investigation is ongoing. The medical facility is closed until further notice.

  • Child killed in hyperbaric chamber explosion at Oakland County healthcare facility

TROY, Mich. – A 5-year-old boy from Royal Oak was killed in an explosion while receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy at a healthcare facility in Oakland County, according to the fire department.

First responders were called to reports of the explosion shortly before 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at the Oxford Center in Troy. They said the 5-year-old boy was dead when first responders arrived at the scene.

The boy’s mother was standing near the chamber when it exploded and she received injuries to her arms. The department said the fire was brought under control within minutes of the department arriving and there was no extensive damage to the facility itself.

According to the FDA, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is known for treating scuba and deep-sea divers affected by the rapid change in pressure around them. The FDA said it can also be used to treat other health problems, including carbon monoxide poisoning and diabetic foot ulcers. The increased air pressure in the chamber helps the lungs collect more oxygen, which can get more oxygen to the tissues that need, and help the body heal and fight certain infections.

The FDA recommends those who need treatment get it at an accredited facility saying, “Explosions and fires have occurred in HBOT chambers that have not been reviewed by the FDA and are located at unaccredited facilities.” The FDA said the facility should be accredited by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. According to the UHMS map, only two locations in Michigan have been accredited and they are in Grand Rapids and Niles.

The Oxford Center opened in 2008. The fire department said the facility will be closed “until further notice” while they continue to investigate the explosion.

  • Platt and Mouch Tension at Scene of Gas Explosion (Exclusive)

Uh-oh, what’s going on with one of our favorite — and most stable! — One Chicago couples?! TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the big three-show crossover airing January 29 shows that something’s not quite right between Fire‘s Mouch (Christian Stolte) and P.D.‘s Platt (Amy Morton).

In the first crossover of MedFire, and P.D. since 2019, a gas explosion rocks a high-rise, and Chicago’s first responders come out in force to rescue hundreds of civilians. It’s the calamity beneath the surface, however, that sends the heroes on a race to save 40 people trapped deep underground, including two of their own. Med and Fire are swapping time slots for the event.

Our clip offers a look at the scene after the gas explosion. Chicago PD arrives on scene, and Platt immediately approaches Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) and asks of the geyser, “You can’t get this thing out yet?” He explains, “Not until we get the main line shut off. For now, we just gotta let it burn, keep a close eye on it, and hope that son of a bitch doesn’t throw us any curveballs.” Platt asks where he wants them. “This Plaza is going to fill up, so we need to keep people as far away from the flame as possible,” Pascal explains. Platt puts Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) on it.

Meanwhile, Severide (Taylor Kinney) radios for ladder support: There’s a collapsed staircase in a sub-basement, with up to 10 people trapped. Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) leads Truck to assist. Watch the full sneak peek above for much more, including some tension between Mouch and Platt when he approaches her at the scene.

“All of our team is put in danger during the event, but several main characters are especially affected,” Fire showrunner Andrea Newman told us. “There are firefighters trapped, other first responders injured, and the couples are really put through hell.”

And previously, P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan had told us that Platt “plays a big part in the crossover. We got to give Amy a lot to do and it was really exciting. I mean, she’s so good and I feel like we were finally able to give her something different. I think you’ll see a different side of her character in the crossover, which is nice.” The promo shows that she ends up in the hospital.

What are you hoping to see in the crossover? Are you worried about Mouch and Platt after this clip? Let us know in the comments section below.

Platt and Mouch Tension at Scene of Gas Explosion (Exclusive)

In a shocking turn of events, tensions were running high between Detective Hailey Platt and Firefighter Brian “Mouch” Zvonecek at the scene of a gas explosion earlier today.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the two first responders engaged in a heated argument as they worked to secure the area and aid victims. It is unclear what sparked the altercation, but sources say it may have been related to conflicting opinions on how to handle the situation.

Platt, known for her no-nonsense attitude and dedication to her job, was seen shouting at Mouch, who appeared visibly frustrated and defensive. The two were eventually pulled apart by fellow first responders before the situation escalated further.

As the investigation into the gas explosion continues, one thing is certain: the tension between Platt and Mouch is far from resolved. Will this rift impact their ability to work together in the future, or will they find a way to put their differences aside for the greater good? Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

A 29-year-old man has died nearly a month after sustaining serious burns from a massive fireworks explosion in Hawaii.

The man, whom authorities have not identified, became the fifth person to die in the New Year’s Eve incident at a Honolulu home, a spokesperson with the Honolulu Police Department confirmed to CBS News Tuesday. He was among six victims recovering at the Arizona Burn Center.

Other victims killed by the fireworks included a 3-year-old boy, Cassius Ramos-Benigno, and three women, Carmelita Benigno, 61, Nelie Ibarra, 58, and Jennifer Van, 23, CBS Honolulu affiliate HNN reported.

Honolulu authorities said someone attending a party lit some aerial fireworks that fell on its side, which shot sparks into other crates containing more fireworks.

Over two dozen people were also injured in the blast, officials said.

The incident prompted a crackdown on illegal fireworks in the state, with Gov. Josh Green proposing $300 tickets for igniting fireworks, as well as decades of prison time if the use of fireworks leads to injury or death.
