  • Neymar, Antony, Philippe Coutinho and many big signings that failed despite the big money they were paid – Telegraph

Following the conclusion of Brazilian star Neymar’s contract with Saudi champions Al Hilal, the renowned media outlet Goal has ranked the worst moves in football history…

Money makes the football world go round, but big spending doesn’t always guarantee success.

In the modern era, clubs are more willing than ever to spend money to achieve trophies.

However, time and time again, high-quality players have failed to meet their high transfer fees.

It’s not always their fault, of course. Sometimes, it’s simply a matter of being transferred to the wrong club, with the wrong manager at the wrong time.

Whatever the reasons, many of the biggest transfers of all time have resulted in huge mistakes, listed below.

    19. James Rodríguez: Monaco – Real Madrid (2014)

Real Madrid paid €80 million for James Rodríguez after a stellar performance at the 2014 World Cup. After a good season, his career at Madrid declined and he was sent on loan to Bayern Munich, ultimately leaving without any profit for the club.

    18. Zlatan Ibrahimović: Inter – Barcelona (2009)

Barcelona spent €69.5 million and Samuel Eto’o to bring in Zlatan Ibrahimović. His relationship with manager Pep Guardiola was strained, and he left after a short and problematic season.

    17. Neymar: Barcelona – Paris Saint-Germain (2017)

Neymar became the most expensive player in history when PSG paid €222 million for him. Despite some excellent performances, he never achieved the expected success and left for Saudi Arabia in 2023 after many injuries and a difficult period.

    16. Kepa Arrizabalaga: Athletic Bilbao-Chelsea (2018)

Kepa, the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, was transferred for 80 million euros, but failed to justify the sums paid.

After a few poor seasons, he is now on loan at Bournemouth.

    15. Harry Maguire: Leicester City – Man Utd (2019)

Manchester United paid €80 million for Maguire, but he did not justify this investment, making numerous mistakes and being constantly criticized by fans.

    14. Romelu Lukaku: Everton – Man Utd (2017)

Lukaku was signed for €75 million, but although he started well, he struggled during his second season and left after a problematic spell at Manchester United.

    13. Alvaro Morata: Real Madrid – Chelsea (2017)

Chelsea paid €60 million for Morata, but he only had a few brilliant spells, performing poorly throughout his time in London.

    12. Antoine Griezmann: Atletico Madrid – Barcelona (2019)

Barcelona paid 120 million euros for Griezmann, but he had a short and unsuccessful spell at the Catalans, and then returned to Atletico Madrid.

    11. Jack Grealish: Aston Villa – Manchester City (2021)

Grealish was signed for €100 million but failed to break through as expected, contributing less than expected during his first season.

    10. Randal Kolo Muani: Eintracht Frankfurt – PSG (2023)

PSG paid €80 million for Kolo Muani, but he has had a poor spell at the club, scoring just 6 goals in Ligue 1.

    9. Nicolas Pépé: Lille – Arsenal (2019)

Arsenal paid €79 million for Pépé, but he had a short successful spell and was sent out on loan, culminating in a free transfer to Trabzonspor.

    8. Joao Félix: Benfica – Atletico Madrid (2019)

Atletico Madrid paid 126 million euros for Félix, but he did not justify this amount and after several loans, he moved to Chelsea and Barcelona.

    7. Paul Pogba: Juventus – Man Utd (2016)

Pogba was transferred for 105 million euros, but after an unsuccessful period and many fluctuations, he returned to Juventus in 2022.

    6. Romelu Lukaku: Inter – Chelsea (2021)

Chelsea paid €119 million for Lukaku, but he had a poor season and was eventually loaned out to Inter and Roma.

    5. Antony: Ajax – Manchester United (2022)

Manchester United spent 82 million euros on Antony, but he failed to show the expected performance, becoming an example of failed investments.

    4. Neymar: PSG – Al Hilal (2023)

PSG sold Neymar for 90 million euros, considering him a major failure after a long period of injuries and other problems.

    3. Philippe Coutinho: Liverpool – Barcelona (2018)

Barcelona paid €120 million for Coutinho, but he failed to show his worth, being loaned out and then leaving for €20 million.

    2. Eden Hazard: Chelsea – Real Madrid (2019)

Hazard was signed for €100 million, but he had a long injury-plagued spell and failed to adapt to Real Madrid’s style.

    1. Ousmane Dembélé: Borussia Dortmund – Barcelona (2017)

Barcelona spent 105 million euros on Dembélé after losing Neymar, but he had many physical problems and failed to justify the investment, moving to PSG.

    /Telegraph/

In the world of football, big money signings often come with high expectations. However, not every big money signing lives up to the hype. Neymar, Antony, Philippe Coutinho and many other high profile players have failed to meet expectations despite the hefty price tags attached to their transfers.

Neymar, once hailed as one of the brightest talents in the game, has struggled to find consistent form since his move to Paris Saint-Germain. Despite his undeniable talent, the Brazilian forward has been plagued by injuries and off-field controversies, leading many to question whether he was worth the record-breaking fee PSG paid to sign him.

Antony, another Brazilian starlet, was tipped for greatness when he made the move to Ajax from Sao Paulo. However, the winger has failed to make a significant impact in the Eredivisie, leading some to question whether he has what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

Philippe Coutinho, once considered one of the best midfielders in the world, has also struggled to justify the huge transfer fees paid for his services. After a disappointing spell at Barcelona, the Brazilian playmaker has failed to recapture his best form at Bayern Munich and Aston Villa, leaving many to wonder if his best days are behind him.

These players are just a few examples of big money signings that have failed to deliver on their potential. While football is a fickle game and success is never guaranteed, the pressure of living up to a big price tag can often be a burden too heavy to bear.

  • Common IT Outsourcing Mistakes to Avoid: Lessons Learned from Failed Partnerships

Common IT Outsourcing Mistakes to Avoid: Lessons Learned from Failed Partnerships

Outsourcing has become a popular strategy for many businesses looking to cut costs, improve efficiency, and gain access to specialized skills and expertise. However, despite its many benefits, outsourcing can also come with its fair share of challenges and pitfalls. One of the biggest mistakes that companies make when outsourcing IT services is not carefully vetting and selecting the right partner.

When it comes to IT outsourcing, choosing the wrong partner can lead to a host of problems, including missed deadlines, budget overruns, and subpar quality of work. To help you avoid these common pitfalls, we’ve compiled a list of lessons learned from failed IT outsourcing partnerships:

    1. Failing to clearly define your expectations: One of the biggest mistakes that companies make when outsourcing IT services is not clearly defining their expectations and requirements upfront. Before entering into a partnership with an outsourcing provider, it’s important to clearly outline your project goals, timelines, budget constraints, and key performance indicators. Failing to do so can lead to misunderstandings, scope creep, and ultimately, project failure.

    2. Neglecting to conduct thorough due diligence: Another common mistake that companies make when outsourcing IT services is failing to conduct thorough due diligence on potential partners. Before entering into a partnership with an outsourcing provider, it’s important to thoroughly vet their credentials, experience, and track record. This includes checking references, reviewing case studies, and conducting interviews with key team members.

    3. Overlooking cultural fit: Cultural fit is a critical factor in the success of any outsourcing partnership. When outsourcing IT services, it’s important to ensure that the outsourcing provider’s values, work ethic, and communication style align with your own company culture. Failing to consider cultural fit can lead to miscommunication, conflicts, and ultimately, project failure.

    4. Not establishing clear communication channels: Effective communication is key to the success of any outsourcing partnership. When outsourcing IT services, it’s important to establish clear communication channels and protocols for sharing information, feedback, and updates. Failing to do so can lead to misunderstandings, delays, and ultimately, project failure.

    5. Ignoring red flags: Finally, one of the biggest mistakes that companies make when outsourcing IT services is ignoring red flags. If you notice any warning signs during the due diligence process, such as a lack of transparency, poor communication, or a history of missed deadlines, it’s important to address these issues head-on. Ignoring red flags can lead to costly mistakes and project failure.

In conclusion, outsourcing IT services can be a highly effective strategy for many businesses, but it’s important to approach it with caution and due diligence. By avoiding these common mistakes and learning from failed partnerships, you can increase the chances of success and reap the many benefits that outsourcing has to offer.

  • HGTV star Christina Haack admits to rushing into romance after 3 failed marriages

HGTV star Christina Haack is not thrilled with her situation: all three of her marriages have ended in divorce.

In an emotional conversation between the reality star and her first ex-husband, Tarek El Moussa, Haack admitted that since the couple’s own split, she had been doing “stupid things” to alleviate her pain, like entering into relationships prematurely.

“I feel like I try to hide and act like I’m not affected but then I just do more stupid things to try to make myself feel better,” Haack told El Moussa, per People, in the season premiere of their new show, “The Flip Off,” which also stars El Moussa’s second wife, Heather Rae El Moussa.

“I just keep doing it and getting into things too fast that I know aren’t right.”

Haack and El Moussa officially divorced in 2018, after separating in 2016. The couple were plagued with several issues throughout their marriage, including El Moussa’s cancer. Less than a year after their initial separation, Haack started dating TV presenter Ant Anstead, whom she would later marry, welcome a child with and then separate from in 2020.

Anstead, who is now dating actress Renée Zellweger, accused Haack during the divorce of exploiting the couple’s son online. Their divorce was finalized in 2021. She married her third husband, realtor Josh Hall, in 2021 after a monthslong engagement, although they split in July 2024, which she said was welcome news to her children.

“The kids literally asked me to leave,” Haack said of her daughter Taylor, 14, and son Brayden, 9, whom she shares with El Moussa. “They told me he’s not nice to me. Why would I stick around?”

“I never wanted to get divorced,” she told the camera during the episode. “I’m the only person in my family to ever get a divorce. So I just felt like it’s safe to be back in a relationship, but ultimately, that was not safe either.”

Haack recently shared that Hall was taking her to court, uninterested in mediation, in what has turned into contentious proceedings.

Hall was expected to star in the show alongside Haack and her ex, but left the project after their split. Haack told Fox News Digital that working alongside him would have been difficult for a plethora of reasons. “I think on camera — some people are very comfortable on camera, some aren’t,” she explained. “And that’s totally understandable. [Josh] wasn’t super comfortable on camera. I think he’s too hard on himself, too much in his head.”

“And then also, he doesn’t have a lot of experience in flipping houses,” she continued, which is the premise of the show. “So if you combine the two, it’s kind of a recipe for disaster.”

Ultimately, Haack has found herself another relationship, now dating businessman Christopher Larocca, per the outlet. The couple has been together for a few months.

New episodes of the reality show air on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

On August 5, HGTV star Christina Haack took to Instagram to open up about her recent whirlwind romance and admitted that she may have rushed into it too quickly. Haack, who was previously married three times, shared that she has learned a lot from her past relationships and is now taking the time to focus on herself.

In her post, Haack wrote, “I know I rushed into a relationship too soon, as I tend to do. I had never been single in my life and I needed to learn how to be alone. I am grateful for the lessons I’ve learned and the growth I’ve experienced.”

Haack’s honesty and vulnerability were met with an outpouring of support from her fans, many of whom praised her for being open about her struggles and for taking the time to prioritize her own well-being.

It’s not easy to admit when we make mistakes, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. But Haack’s willingness to share her story serves as a powerful reminder that it’s okay to take things slow, to focus on yourself, and to learn from past relationships before jumping into something new.

As Haack continues on her journey of self-discovery, we can only hope that she finds the happiness and fulfillment she deserves.

  • Democrats who helped to pass the Laken Riley Act failed their first test of the second Trump era

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump signed the Laken Riley Act into law. The legislation expands the federal government’s mandatory detention rules for unauthorized immigrants to include theft-related crimes, like shoplifting, and grants state attorneys general the right to sue the federal government over what they deem as insufficient immigration enforcement.

The bill, named after a Georgia woman killed by an undocumented immigrant, tracks with Trump’s tendency to politicize murders and has been used by right-wingers to engender racist anger toward immigrants, as I wrote last year.

The bill received bipartisan support in the House and Senate, despite civil rights groups and various Democratic lawmakers highlighting its risks of increasing racial profiling and suspending due process for people accused of crimes. Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., for example, voted against the bill, telling MSNBC’s Chris Hayes the law means “people are going to be targeted because they’re brown.”

Given how Trump’s immigration officials already appear to be engaging in disturbing profiling — and ensnaring legal U.S. residents in their anti-immigrant round-ups — that seems like a fair prediction.

In a speech to the House last week, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., (who also voted against the bill) spoke out about its potential risks to due process. “In the wake of tragedy, we are seeing a fundamental erosion of our civil rights,” she said. “In this bill, if a person is so much as accused of a crime — if someone wants to point a finger and accuse someone of shoplifting — they would be rounded up and put into a private detention camp and sent out for deportation without a day in court.”

And New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, another Democrat who opposed the bill, offered a personal anecdote to MSNBC host Chris Hayes to suggest that those who supported the bill — including fellow Democrats — have made a decision that will tar their legacies.

    He said:

I had a nonpolitical person in the Capitol who’s never came up to me and talked about politics, but he looked at me and said Democrats are going to rue the day when they allowed something like that bill we just passed, that allows — literally — Dreamers to be indefinitely detained. Or a child who steals a candy bar. He said this is going to come back in history to really, really haunt those people that supported this bill.

    Watch the clip here:

Indeed, Democrats who supported this bill seem to have acquiesced to conservatives’ fear-mongering for the sake of political expediency, and in the process they may have subjected many of their constituents to racial profiling.

Because Republicans now control the Senate, the House of Representatives and the White House, they didn’t need Democratic votes to pass this bill. Democrats could have collectively denounced the bill and advocated for the bipartisan bill they negotiated earlier, which sought to address problems with U.S. immigration laws without seemingly opening the door to the vilification and abuse of immigrants.

But in what was arguably the first test of congressional Democrats’ willingness to confront the conservative movement’s dubious politicking, I think it’s fair to say they failed.

The passing of the Laken Riley Act was a significant victory for Democrats, as it aimed to protect vulnerable communities from discrimination and ensure equal rights for all. However, their first test in the second Trump era has shown that some Democrats who supported the act may have failed to live up to its principles.

Despite their promises to uphold the values of equality and justice, some Democrats have shown a lack of courage and conviction in standing up to the Trump administration’s attempts to roll back progress on civil rights. Whether it be through their silence on key issues or their willingness to compromise on important legislation, these Democrats have not fully lived up to the promises they made when passing the Laken Riley Act.

It is crucial for Democrats to remain steadfast in their commitment to protecting the rights of all Americans, especially in the face of a hostile administration that seeks to undermine these rights at every turn. The first test of the second Trump era has shown that some Democrats may need to reevaluate their priorities and find the courage to stand up for what is right, no matter the political cost.

As we move forward in this new era, it is essential for Democrats to remember the values that they claim to uphold and to hold themselves accountable for their actions. The Laken Riley Act was a step in the right direction, but it will take more than just words to ensure that all Americans are treated with dignity and respect. Let this be a wake-up call for Democrats to do better and to fight harder for the rights of all.

  • Google: Hackers Tried (and Failed) to Use Gemini AI to Breach Accounts

Google has uncovered dozens of state-sponsored hacking groups trying to use its Gemini AI for nefarious schemes, including creating malware.

So far, none of the activity has led to any groundbreaking cyber threats. “While AI can be a useful tool for threat actors, it is not yet the game-changer it is sometimes portrayed to be,” the company wrote in a blog post on Wednesday.

Google’s investigation found that state-sponsored hackers from Iran, North Korea, China, and Russia have all been using Gemini for tasks such as translating content, refining phishing attacks, and computer coding.

Google traced the activity to more than 10 Iranian-hacking groups, 20 Chinese government groups, and nine North Korean hacking groups. “Iranian APT (advanced persistent threat) actors were the heaviest users of Gemini, using it for a wide range of purposes, including research on defense organizations, vulnerability research, and creating content for campaigns,” it says.

However, Google says the hackers have only been making “productivity gains” by using Gemini, rather than direct computer hacking. “At present, they primarily use AI for research, troubleshooting code, and creating and localizing content,” the company wrote.

For example, Gemini was able to help the state-sponsored hackers with tasks such as creating content, explaining hard-to-understand concepts, or generating basic computer code. But the chatbot’s safeguards thwarted the state-sponsored groups when it came to more complex tasks, including account hijacking or trying to jailbreak Gemini.

“Some malicious actors unsuccessfully attempted to prompt Gemini for guidance on abusing Google products, such as advanced phishing techniques for Gmail, assistance coding a Chrome infostealer, and methods to bypass Google’s account creation verification methods,” the company’s report adds. “These attempts were unsuccessful. Gemini did not produce malware or other content that could plausibly be used in a successful malicious campaign.”

Still, Google found that Gemini could allow “threat actors to move faster and at higher volume.” For example, an Iranian-based propaganda operation tapped Gemini to localize their content with better translation. Meanwhile, North Korean-linked hackers used the chatbot to help them draft cover letters and ask about jobs on LinkedIn—possibly to help them obtain remote IT worker positions at US companies, a problem federal investigators are trying to stop.

    Recommended by Our Editors

“The [North Korean] group also used Gemini for information about overseas employee exchanges. Many of the topics would be common for anyone researching and applying for jobs,” Google says.

The company’s report aligns with findings from rival OpenAI. A year ago, it also spotted numerous state-sponsored hackers trying to use ChatGPT for malicious purposes. But OpenAI’s investigation found the groups were merely using the chatbot as a productivity tool that amounted to “limited, incremental capabilities for malicious cybersecurity tasks,” rather than anything revolutionary.

To stop such abuse, Google says it’s designing its AI systems with robust security measures, which it constantly tests. “We investigate abuse of our products, services, users and platforms, including malicious cyber activities by government-backed threat actors, and work with law enforcement when appropriate,” the company says. This includes disrupting suspected malicious activity, a sign that Google has been trying to boot the hackers from using its services.

  • AI weapon detection system at Antioch High School failed to detect gun in Nashville shooting

An artificial intelligence-powered weapon detection system failed to pick up the handgun a 17-year-old Nashville, Tennessee, student used in a school shooting Wednesday that killed a 16-year-old girl, officials said.

The software, called Omnilert, failed to detect the gun because of where cameras were in Antioch High School, Metro Nashville Public Schools spokesperson Sean Braisted said at a news conference Thursday afternoon.

But the system was activated by police brandishing their weapons during the response to the shooting, Braisted said.

Omnilert connects to the school’s existing network of cameras and uses AI technology to detect weapons, he said, but “in this instance, based on the shooter’s location in proximity to the cameras, it wasn’t close enough to get an accurate read and to activate that alarm.”

“The location of the shooter and the firearm meant that the weapon was not visible,” said Omnilert CEO Dave Fraser in an email. “This is not a case of the firearm not being recognized by the system.”

Metro Nashville Public Schools Director Adrienne Battle said, “There is not one system that is 100% going to capture everything that a person may have on them.”

Omnilert works by turning security cameras “into life-saving tools, protecting lives while reducing the operational, legal, and social costs of gun violence,” its website says. It helps detect firearms and then triggers immediate alerts.

“These are designed to capture things that are on camera, and so we wanted to have a system that worked on multiple cameras throughout the network. It does work, but it’s not going to work in every instance, in every spot, based on where that weapon might be visible,” Braisted said. “So that’s why we have additional safety and security protocols.”

In addition to Omnilert, the school uses AI systems at the front door, it has security vestibules, and it uses school resource officers.

“It all works together as a system, but one system alone is not going to keep people safe,” Braisted said. “And there’s also just the general public concerns around how a 17-year-old has a weapon.

“I mean, these are questions that are beyond the scope of Metro Schools but need to be addressed by the broader community,” he said. “But we are doing what we can as a district to install and equip our schools with the safety protocols and resources that we can use to be safe.”

The missed detection offers a lesson in the shortcomings of high-tech security solutions — and the risk of relying on them, experts said.

“This highlights the challenges school districts face,” said Donald Maye, head of operations at IPVM, a surveillance technology research company that investigates weapon-detection systems.

“They’ll make these announcements that they’ve invested millions on a solution and then there are still many cases that can occur where the system is not going to be a factor in preventing violence,” Maye said.

Amy Klinger, director of programs for the nonprofit Educator’s School Safety Network, said the most effective safeguards against violence are based on building trust among students, teachers and administrators to share early signs of potential threats — like erratic behavior or troubling social media posts.

“In the vast majority of cases there is something of concern — behaviors, disclosures, conversations, warning signs — that if someone is paying attention you could pick up on,” Klinger said. “If you combine that with technology, great. But you can’t replace it with technology.”

Some have questioned why the school did not use metal detectors. Battle told reporters Thursday that research has shown there are pros and cons to using the detectors.

“There are lots of unintended consequences, mainly when you think about the types of learning environments we want for our students. I mean, the first person we want our students to interact with are their principals and their teachers and their fellow students,” she said.

A motive in the shooting is unclear. Nashville Police Chief John Drake said authorities are looking into “some materials on the internet” believed to be from the shooter, who was identified as Solomon Henderson. He shot and killed himself after the attack.

Authorities said Henderson was an active student. They said he took the school bus before he later opened fire in the cafeteria, killing Josselin Corea Escalante. Another student was wounded when he was grazed in the arm.

Recently, there was a tragic shooting at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee where a student was injured. The school had implemented an AI weapon detection system to help prevent such incidents, but unfortunately, it failed to detect the gun in this instance.

This failure highlights the limitations of relying solely on technology to keep students safe. While AI can be a valuable tool in enhancing security measures, it is not foolproof and should not be seen as a substitute for proper training, vigilance, and proactive measures.

It is crucial for schools to have a comprehensive approach to safety that includes regular drills, mental health support for students, and a strong relationship with law enforcement. While technology can play a role in this, it is important to remember that it is just one piece of the puzzle.

Our thoughts are with the victim of the shooting and their loved ones, and we hope that this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ongoing efforts to improve school safety.

  • Lawsuit says ex-Yankee Rivera failed to protect abused girl

NEW YORK — New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera and his wife are accused in a lawsuit of failing to protect a young girl who was sexually abused by an older child during a summer camp trip sponsored by their church.

In a lawsuit filed this month, lawyers for the girl allege that the Hall of Fame pitcher and his wife, Clara Rivera, a pastor at the Refuge of Hope Church, flew from New York to Florida to investigate after the girl’s mother expressed concerns about her daughter’s safety during the 2018 trip.

But rather than take action, the couple “isolated and intimidated” the victim into remaining “silent about her negative experiences,” including the abuse, the lawsuit says.

Joseph A. Ruta, an attorney for the Riveras, said in a statement that any allegations that they “knew about or failed to act on reports of child abuse are completely false.” He said the couple only learned of the allegations in 2022 after receiving a letter from an attorney requesting a financial settlement.

“The Riveras are known throughout New York for their charitable work and especially for their commitment to serving underprivileged children,” Ruta said. “It’s unfortunate they are being targeted by false allegations.”

The lawsuit doesn’t name the accuser, but it says she was born in 2007, which would have made her 10 or 11 years old in 2018.

That summer, according to the complaint, Clara Rivera persuaded a congregant to allow her daughter to attend a camp at the Ignite Life Center, a church in Gainesville, Florida.

While staying in an unsupervised dorm room, the girl was repeatedly sexually abused by an older female camper, according to the suit. In a police report filed in 2022, the girl said there were 15 instances of inappropriate touching over a two-week period, both in her bunk and a shower.

Though the girl did not report the abuse, her mother grew worried about her safety after the two spoke on the phone call, the complaint states. The mother then outlined her concerns to Clara Rivera, who agreed to investigate, according to the suit.

During that trip, the couple “received information that should have given them concern,” the lawsuit says, but they chose instead to remain silent to “avoid the potential scandal of child sexual abuse in its programs.” The suit doesn’t specifically state what the Riveras were told by the girl or her mother.

The girl later returned to New York and continued her active participation in the church. But later that summer, during a barbecue for congregants at the Riveras’ home in Rye, New York, she was again abused by the same person, the complaint states.

“They failed to mitigate the risks, and upon learning that she had been a victim, took no steps to protect her or get criminal justice,” the attorney who filed the lawsuit, Adam Horowitz, told The Associated Press by phone. “They continued to expose her again to the same risk at her home.”

In 2021, the girl was again sexually assaulted, this time by a male youth leader at Refuge of Hope, according to the lawsuit. The abuse in that case was discovered by the girl’s mother, who found months of electronic communications between the two, the lawsuit contends.

Afterward, the girl and her mother filed police reports in New York and Florida regarding the abuse in 2018 and 2021. Horowitz said he didn’t believe that criminal charges were brought in any of the cases. The lawsuit was filed against the Refuge of Hope church, not against the Riveras themselves.

Prosecutors in New York and Florida didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment about whether they looked into the allegations.

A lawyer for Ignite Life Center did not respond to an inquiry. The church recently settled lawsuits brought by three people — also represented by Horowitz — who said they were abused as teenagers by a volunteer at Ignite Life Center. Two others affiliated with the church have been charged with lewd and lascivious battery against minors.

In a shocking new development, a lawsuit has been filed against former New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera, alleging that he failed to protect a young girl from abuse.

The lawsuit claims that Rivera was made aware of the abuse the girl was suffering at the hands of a family member, but did nothing to intervene or protect her. The girl, who was a close family friend of Rivera, reportedly confided in him about the abuse, but he allegedly ignored her cries for help.

This lawsuit is a damning indictment of Rivera, who is not only a baseball legend but also a role model to many. It raises serious questions about his moral character and his willingness to stand up for what is right.

As the case unfolds, it will be interesting to see how Rivera responds to these allegations and whether he will be held accountable for his inaction. In the meantime, this lawsuit serves as a stark reminder that even the most revered public figures can fail to protect those who need it most.

  • Trump failed to deliver ‘Day 1’ promise to grant clemency to Ross Ulbricht, founder of Silk Road

President Trump did not pardon or commute the prison sentence of Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the anonymous marketplace website Silk Road, despite his promise on the campaign trail to free him on “day one.”

Ulbricht was convicted because his website, which was founded in 2011 and used cryptocurrency for payments, was used to sell illegal drugs, even though he did not sell any of the illicit substances himself.

After being sworn into office on Monday, Trump issued several executive actions, including efforts to reduce immigration, designating cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, a move to resume federal executions and pardoning or commuting sentences to time served of people convicted in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

But Trump’s first day back in the White House came to an end with Ulbricht still behind bars without a pardon or commutation from the president, who pledged to do so last spring.

TRUMP VOWS TO COMMUTE PRISON SENTENCE OF SILK ROAD FOUNDER ROSS ULBRICHT

In May, Trump delivered a speech at the Libertarian National Convention to a hostile crowd of boos in an attempt to win over Libertarian voters. Libertarians believe government investigators overreached in their case against Silk Road and generally oppose the War on Drugs.

While the attendees were not favorable to Trump for most of the event, they did give a big cheer when he said he would commute Ulbricht’s sentence to time served, as the crowd chanted “Free Ross” in the hopes that the then-presidential candidate would take action if elected to allow the Silk Road founder to return home to his family after more than a decade behind bars.

“If you vote for me, on day one I will commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, to a sentence of time served. He’s already served 11 years. We’re going to get him home,” Trump told the crowd of Libertarians, many of whom were holding signs that read “Free Ross.”

Ulbricht reacted to Trump’s comments the following day on the social media platform X.

“Last night, Donald Trump pledged to commute my sentence on day 1, if reelected,” he wrote. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. After 11 years in prison, it is hard to express how I feel at this moment. It is thanks to your undying support that I may get a second chance.”

Last month, Ulbricht wrote: “For my last monthly resolution of 2024, I intend to study every day and to get up to speed as much as I can as I prepare for freedom.”

Trump later reiterated his promise to commute Ulbricht’s life sentence at a bitcoin conference, which he received loud cheers for.

Despite Trump failing to deliver on his promise to free Ulbricht on his first day back in office, the president reportedly may still grant him clemency as early as Tuesday.

“Pres. Trump’s staff just confirmed to me Ross’s pardon will be issued late tonight or tomorrow morning,” Libertarian Party chair Angela McArdle wrote Monday night on X.

Elon Musk, who serves in the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency in the Trump administration, also said Ulbricht would be released soon.

“Ross will be freed,” Musk wrote on X.

Many Libertarians have said they supported Trump in November’s election, citing, in part, his commitment to free Ulbricht.

During his first term, Trump considered intervening to release Ulbricht before ultimately deciding against a pardon.

Ulbricht, now 40, operated the website from 2011 until his arrest in 2013. He was sentenced two years later to life in prison.

“I was trying to help us move toward a freer and more equitable world,” Ulbricht said from prison in 2021. “We all know the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and now here I am. I’m in hell.”

“Trump is done signing EOs and pardons for the night,” 2024 Libertarian presidential candidate Chase Oliver wrote on X. “Hopefully, we will see a #FREEROSSULBRICHT commutation in the morning.”

On his first day in office, former President Donald Trump made a promise to grant clemency to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the infamous dark web marketplace Silk Road. However, as Trump’s term came to an end, it became clear that this promise had not been fulfilled.

Ulbricht was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in 2015 for his role in creating and operating Silk Road, a website that facilitated the sale of illegal drugs and other illicit goods. Despite pleas from supporters and advocates for his release, Trump did not grant him clemency before leaving office.

Many were disappointed by Trump’s failure to follow through on this promise, as they believed that Ulbricht had already served enough time for his crimes. The lack of action on this issue has left Ulbricht’s fate uncertain, and his supporters continue to call for his release.

As the debate over Ulbricht’s case continues, it serves as a reminder of the complexities of the criminal justice system and the importance of holding elected officials accountable for their promises.

  • FAA requires mishap investigation for failed New Glenn landing

Updated Jan. 19 with Blue Origin comments.

WASHINGTON — While Blue Origin considers the first flight of its New Glenn rocket a success, the company will have to complete a mishap investigation before its next launch.

New Glenn lifted off on its inaugural launch, called NG-1, Jan. 16 from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The second stage reached orbit, although the first stage failed to make a landing on a ship in the Atlantic Ocean as planned.

The payload for the NG-1 mission was Blue Ring Pathfinder, a technology demonstrator for the company’s planned Blue Ring orbital transfer vehicle. The payload remained attached to the upper stage, testing communications, power and other systems.

The company says those tests were successful. “Our Blue Ring Pathfinder hit all our mission objectives within the planned six-hour journey after being inserted into the desired orbit by New Glenn with an apogee of 19,300 km and a perigee of 2,400 km at a 30-degree inclination,” Dave Limp, Blue Origin’s chief executive, said in a social media post Jan. 17.

Limp added that the upper stage “nailed insertion with a less than 1% deviation from our exact orbital injection target.” Data from the U.S. Space Force’s Space-Track.org service show the upper stage in an orbit of 2,426 by 19,251 kilometers at an inclination of 29.99 degrees.

Blue Origin has not released any other details about the mission beyond Limp’s post since a press release shortly after the launch. That includes no information about the fate of the first stage, which was headed towards a landing on the company’s landing platform ship, Jacklyn, after stage separation. Telemetry from the first stage, as displayed on the launch webcast, froze at about T+7:55, around the scheduled end of a three-engine reentry burn. The stage was at an altitude of 25,672 meters and traveling at 6,896 kilometers per hour at that point.

The failed landing attempt will require the company to perform a mishap investigation. “The FAA is aware an anomaly occurred during the Blue Origin NG-1 mission that launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, on Jan. 16,” the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement, referring to the booster landing failure. “The FAA is requiring Blue Origin to perform a mishap investigation.”

Blue Origin will lead the mishap investigation, standard procedure for such reviews, with involvement by the FAA. The agency must approve the final report and any corrective actions before allowing launches to resume.

It’s unclear if that investigation will affect the schedule for upcoming launches of New Glenn. Limp said in a statement immediately after the launch that the company was planning its next launch for the spring, but did not provide a more specific schedule or identify the payload for that launch.

“We’re working closely with the FAA and submitted our initial findings within 24 hours. Our goal is to fly New Glenn again this spring,” the company said in a Jan. 19 statement to SpaceNews. The company added that it considered the launch a success because reaching orbit was the “lone objective” and that landing the booster would have been a “bonus.”

Last fall, though, the company considered a booster landing a key objective. “For this first launch, I have two primary objectives: get to orbit and land the booster,” Jarrett Jones, senior vice president for New Glenn at Blue Origin, said at a conference in September. Demonstrating the ability to land the booster, he said then, was “super-critical” to rapidly increasing New Glenn’s launch rate.

Despite the missed landing, the company won praise for reaching orbit on its first attempt. “Today’s New Glenn test flight from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station marks a pivotal moment in heavy-lift reusable launch vehicle development,” said Clay Mowry, chief executive of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and a former Blue Origin executive, in a Jan. 16 statement. “As the newest heavy-lift rocket, New Glenn is introducing competition to the launch market, helping accelerate the growing space economy by reducing costs, expanding access to space and helping return us to the moon and on to Mars.

“It’s great to see Blue making solid progress toward offering competition to SpaceX and providing customers with additional reusable vehicles capable of carrying large payloads into space,” said Dale Skran, chief operating officer and senior vice president of the National Space Society, a space advocacy group.

However, some have privately criticized the company for choosing to place the upper stage into a high transfer orbit that does not comply with orbital debris mitigation guidelines. While that orbit avoids highly populated regions of low Earth orbit and medium Earth orbit, a breakup could create debris that migrates into those orbits.

However, Blue Origin said that its choice of that final orbit for the upper stage does comply with debris mitigation requirements. “Our second stage is in a compliant disposal orbit and meets the requirements for inerting and safing the stage so it doesn’t become a debris risk,” the company told SpaceNews.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that it will be conducting a thorough investigation into the failed landing of Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket. The incident occurred during a test flight last week, where the rocket was unable to land successfully after its launch.

The FAA has stated that it will be working closely with Blue Origin to determine the cause of the mishap and to ensure that proper safety protocols are in place for future launches. The investigation will focus on factors such as the rocket’s guidance system, engine performance, and weather conditions at the time of the landing attempt.

Blue Origin has expressed its full cooperation with the FAA’s investigation and has assured the public that it is committed to addressing any issues that may have contributed to the failed landing. The company is dedicated to the safety of its crew and passengers, and will take all necessary steps to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

As more information becomes available, the FAA will provide updates on the status of the investigation and any potential changes to Blue Origin’s launch procedures. The agency remains committed to ensuring the safety and reliability of commercial spaceflight operations, and will take all necessary measures to prevent future mishaps.

  • Netizens think Coldplay’s Mumbai concert fell flat as fans failed to match Chris Martin’s energy: ‘Quieter than library’ | Trending News

British rock band Coldplay—comprising lead singer Chris Martin, bassist Guy Berryman, guitarist Jonny Buckland, and drummer Will Champion—recently kicked off their highly anticipated India concert at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

When the ticket bookings opened for the event, it saw a frenzy, with over 10 to 12 lakh people queueing up online. Ticket reselling rates were through the roof, with some offering it for as high as Rs 1.5 lakh, for a ticket that costs Ra 12,000.

However, the scenes from the concert told a different story. As many concertgoers shared videos from the event, social media users were quick to point out that the audience’s energy did not match the electrifying atmosphere for which Coldplay concerts are famous.

Despite the band’s phenomenal performance, fans online expressed disappointment over the audience’s lack of enthusiasm and engagement as they failed to sing along with Martin. One of the viral videos shows the band performing one of their most popular songs, Hymn for the Weekend, the music video of which was shot in Mumbai and also starred Sonam Kapoor Ahuja.

Sharing the video, an Instagram user wrote, “a really cold play.”

    Watch here:

“Nahh man… WHAT IS THIS???? The crowd is quieter than a library,” an X user wrote.

The video quickly gained traction, with social media users claiming several attended the concert only for Instagram reels and pictures. “More than half of them are just there for Insta reels & pics,” a user wrote. “That’s what happens when you price out the real fans only for some “influencers” to get in,” another user commented.

“But how can you not know Hymn for the weekend.. was literally shot in the streets of Mumbai,” a third user said. “I see that the amount of people recording the concert is quite less than usual because others are busy looking up the lyrics,” another user said.

Coldplay returned to India after a long wait of nine years with performances at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on January 18, 19, and 21. The band will then perform in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The highly anticipated Coldplay concert in Mumbai may have left some fans disappointed as netizens took to social media to express their thoughts on the lackluster energy in the crowd. Many concert-goers noted that lead singer Chris Martin’s high energy and enthusiasm did not seem to be reciprocated by the audience, with some even describing the atmosphere as “quieter than a library.”

Despite the band’s electrifying performance and hit songs that had the crowd singing along, it seems that the energy level in the audience did not quite match up to what was expected. Some fans took to Twitter to share their observations, with one user commenting, “Chris Martin was on fire, but the crowd was just not feeling it. Disappointing.”

While Coldplay’s Mumbai concert was a highly anticipated event, it seems that some fans may have left feeling underwhelmed by the lack of energy in the crowd. However, there were still plenty of fans who thoroughly enjoyed the concert and praised the band’s performance. Ultimately, it seems that opinions on the event were divided, with some feeling let down by the subdued atmosphere while others were swept away by Coldplay’s music and stage presence.
