  • Woodson: ‘Not right’ what Indiana men’s basketball fans are doing to struggling Galloway

As Trey Galloway missed another shot — his fourth in the first six minutes of Indiana men’s basketball’s 94-69 loss to Illinois on Jan. 14 — Hoosier fans booed the fifth-year senior and one-time crowd favorite.

When Galloway left the floor two seconds later, fans cheered. And when Galloway’s face appeared on the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall big screen during a timeout, fans booed once more.

As an Indiana captain, Galloway is perhaps more exposed to blame and external scrutiny. Indiana head coach Mike Woodson is notoriously difficult on his captains — but he thinks fans have gone too far.

“It’s just not right that fans are doing what they’re doing to him,” Woodson said on his radio show Monday. “Because I think he’s working his butt off. He plays hard. He tries to do the right things. He doesn’t always get it right — I get that — but I love him to death. His teammates love him.”

Galloway used to receive the loudest ovations from fans during pregame introductions of the Hoosiers’ starting five. He’s started 12 games this season but has transitioned back to a bench role for Indiana’s past three games amid a rough patch magnified in the Hoosiers’ loss to Illinois.

The Culver, Indiana, native has played in each of Indiana’s 21 games, but he’s averaging 7.4 fewer minutes per game this season than last. His production has dropped from 10.6 points and 4.6 assists per game in 2023-24 to just 7.1 points and 4.1 assists per contest this year.

Galloway has shot at a better clip from distance, hitting 35% of his triples after making only 26% last season, but his overall performance from the field has fallen from 46.6% to 41%.

Part of the reason for Galloway’s struggles stems from the knee injury he suffered at the end of the 2023-24 season. He underwent offseason knee surgery and didn’t participate in summer workouts, which he noted after Indiana’s 82-69 win over USC on Jan. 8 led to what he implied was a lack of chemistry early in the season.

Woodson said Jan. 21 that Galloway’s surgery will likely take over one year to fully recover from. The injury itself occurred late in the Hoosiers’ regular season, as Galloway played only seven minutes before exiting in pain during a 65-64 victory over Michigan State on March 10. Galloway didn’t play in the Big Ten Tournament the week after Indiana topped the Spartans.

Galloway faced questions in the lead-up to the season about his health. He didn’t start practicing until late September and didn’t reach full levels of participation until the second week of October.

Due to his focus on recovery during the offseason and subsequent lack of time on task with his teammates, Galloway’s been behind the 8 ball throughout the campaign. Still, Woodson holds his veteran leader in high regards.

“Listen, I love everything about Trey Galloway. I’ve always loved Trey Galloway,” Woodson said on his radio show. “Since I’ve had him, he’s been probably one of the hardest working young men that I’ve coached.”

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Galloway has battled highs and lows on the court this season. He’s scored in double figures eight times, headlined by an 18-point outburst Nov. 29 against Providence College, but he’s been held scoreless three times and recorded one or fewer field goals in five games.

Indiana has experienced a similarly rocky season. As losers of four of their last five games, the Hoosiers are 14-7 overall and 5-5 in the Big Ten entering their 8 p.m. tipoff Friday against Purdue at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana.

For Galloway, Friday’s tipoff marks the last time he’ll play Indiana’s biggest rival on the road. If his first 21 games are any indication, Galloway will blend moments of brilliance with intermittent frustration.

Hoosier fans may lose hope. Woodson never will.

“I know when I put him out there, he’s going to work his butt off and play hard for us,” Woodson said. “He makes mistakes just like all players make mistakes, but some of those mistakes, you have to live with them. I’ll go to war with Trey all day long every day.”

Indiana men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson spoke out against the treatment of struggling player Jordan Galloway by fans, calling it “not right.” Galloway, who has been struggling on the court in recent games, has faced criticism and negativity from fans, which Woodson believes is unjustified.

In a post-game press conference, Woodson expressed his disappointment in the fans’ behavior towards Galloway, stating that the young player is working hard and doing his best to contribute to the team. Woodson emphasized the importance of supporting players through their struggles and not adding unnecessary pressure or negativity.

Woodson also called on fans to remember that these are student-athletes who are still developing and learning, and that criticism should be constructive and respectful. He urged fans to show empathy and understanding towards Galloway and all players, acknowledging that everyone has ups and downs in their performances.

As the head coach of the Indiana men’s basketball team, Woodson’s words carry weight and serve as a reminder to fans to support their team in a positive and respectful manner. Let’s rally behind Galloway and the rest of the team as they work through challenges and strive for success on the court. #GoHoosiers

  • ‘Is she scared?’ – Angel Reese declines $200k as fans suggest she fears embarrassment in contest but star could still land winner’s cheque

Who says no to a $200,000 basketball challenge?

Well, Angel Reese, after the WNBA star and four others players choose to decline Unrivaled’s upcoming tournament.

    2

Angel Reese is playing for Rose Basketball in Unrivaled

Details for the 1-on-1 contest have been officially revealed by the league and it will begin on February 10 and feature 30 WNBA players.

Unrivaled is the breakaway off-season women’s basketball league featuring 36 WNBA stars in a nine-week long event.

The league attracted players due its competitive compensation, which includes an average salary of $222,000, and the fact it is played in the US, meaning players do not have to travel overseas in their off-season, which used to be the norm.

In an attempt to popularize the league even further and attract more viewers, Unrivaled organizers announced a 1-on-1 competition that will be nationally televised.

However, that list of players excludes five current Unrivaled stars: Brittney Griner, Sabrina Ionescu, Reese, Stefanie Dolson, and Courtney Vandersloot.

The single elimination contest sees a stunning prize pool of $350,000, with co-founders Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier participating and stars like Alyssa Thomas also involved.

The format sees the 30 players put into four groups of eight, with two byes in two groups. Players will be drawn against each other in a single elimination until there is one woman left.

$200k will be handed to the winner of the challenge, $50,000 will be handed to the runner-up and $25,000 will be given to the semi-finalists.

Alex Bazzell, the president of Unrivaled, was excited about the upcoming challenge, but made sure he got approval from co-founder Stewart first, who jumped at the idea.

“Listen, you talk about brand risk… I’m like, ‘Well, let me just go straight to Stewie and see what she thinks,’” Bazzell told SB.

Angel Reese is one of Unrivaled's stars but won't be playing in the 1-on-1 contest

    2

Angel Reese is one of Unrivaled’s stars but won’t be playing in the 1-on-1 contest

How Unrivaled’s 1-on-1 touranment will work

On Feb. 10, a single-elimination first round will begin that is made up of 14 1-on-1 games.

The following day, Feb. 11, will feature 12 single-elimination games — all of Monday’s winners.

Then, on Feb. 14, the four remaining players will compete in the semi-finals (also following a single-elimination format) as well as a best-of-three Finals.

Games will be played to 11 points, or 10 minutes — whichever occurs first.

There will be an 11-second shot clock, and games will follow traditional scoring rules, with a two-point shot counting as two points, and a three-point shot counting as three points.

“She’s like, ‘No, I want to play. I’m tired of people debating like I’m not the best player.’”

Such an exciting challenge begs the question why stars like Reese are not playing, but Bazell clarified that there is a clause in their contracts that lets them opt out from the contest.

Something that has disappointed fans on social media.

“So no BG, Sloot, Sab, Angel…Why?” one fan posted in reply to the announcement.

“No point without Reese,” another fan said not hiding their disappointment.

Some fans suggested she does not want to participate in case she loses early and gets criticised, saying on x: “Is she scared of getting dumped out in round one?”

Angel Reese gets emotional as she reflects on Coach T-Spoon and claims she was the only person who ‘understood her’

Nevertheless the contest will go on and the groups of players have already been chosen, interestingly fans will decide the players’ seedings in order to form the first-round match-ups.

For players eliminated and not playing, there is also an incentive to want your teammate to do well, as the tournament winner will see their teammates awarded $10,000.

This was done on purpose Bazell says, “To keep team camaraderie.”

“Inevitably you want to root them on — not just for personal reasons, but also there’s an incentive for you if your teammate wins the ultimate cash prize.”

Katie Lou Samuelson, who plays for the Indiana Fever and Phantom, says the prize money is the biggest motivator for players.

“We’re all competitive. It’s a great opportunity,” Samuelson said. “There’s a great prize fund at the end of it. Everyone’s gonna play as hard as they can.”

Fans will be waiting to see the results of this ground breaking 1-on-1 tournament when it begins on February 10.

Angel Reese, the rising star in the world of competitive contests, has recently declined a $200,000 offer to participate in an upcoming competition. Fans and spectators alike have been left wondering: is she scared?

Some have speculated that Reese may be afraid of embarrassment or failure in the high-stakes contest. After all, the pressure to perform at such a level can be intense, and the fear of falling short of expectations is a common concern for many athletes and competitors.

However, others have pointed out that Reese may simply have her sights set on a bigger prize. While turning down $200,000 may seem like a risky move, the potential for a larger payout as the winner of the contest could be a major motivating factor for Reese.

Ultimately, only time will tell whether Reese’s decision will pay off. But one thing is for sure: this talented competitor is not one to back down from a challenge. Stay tuned to see if Reese’s gamble will pay off in the end.

  • Reese Witherspoon Says Famous British Actress ‘Doesn’t Like’ Her Anymore: Evidence From Fans Reveals Kate Winslet as Her Former Friend | Kate Winslet, Reese Witherspoon | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

Reese Witherspoon has made headlines by revealing that a famous British actress will no longer talk to her and we’ve found evidence from a fan site in 2007 that identifies that actress as Kate Winslet.

The Oscar-winning actress opened up about the falling out in a new interview alongside her You’re Cordially Invited co-star Will Ferrell.

Reese asked Will, “Have you ever had this moment where you gave a speech and then like three years later, you’re like, ‘Why did I do that? Why did I do that?’”

“I have one. It literally haunts me,” Reese began.

Keep reading to find out more…

“So this friend of mine, who I didn’t really know that well but she was a very serious, proper actress, she asked me to give her an award. But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her,” Reese said. “The tone was British and elegant and classy. And I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?!’ I’m still embarrassed about it.”

“We’re not friends anymore. I’m not even kidding — we’re not friends anymore,” Reese added. “I think she doesn’t like me anymore. I thought it was so funny and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad. Yeah. Not even kidding, she doesn’t talk to me anymore. Oh well.”

Well, we tracked down the transcript of the speech and she gave it while honoring Kate Winslet at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards in November 2007.

Reese and Kate were seemingly friendly already as they were seen greeting each other at the 2007 Golden Globe Awards in January 2007.

Reese Witherspoon and Kate Winslet in 2007

So, what did Reese say in that speech? The transcript was posted on a fan site back in 2007.

“I always wanted to be a European movie star, wear giant sunglasses, elaborate neck scarves, smoke hand-rolled cigarettes, and have savoir faire and gravitas,” Reese said. “Imagine my good fortune when Kate Winslet moved into my neighborhood, rang my door bell and said, (insert British accent here) ‘Dahling, Sam is off shooting, and I believe our children are the same age. Could they possibly have a play date and oh, by the way, it’s almost 9 o’clock and I’ve had nothing to do drink, do you have any wine?’”

Reese said that she admires Kate‘s “fearlessness. When I saw her in Iris and she took off all her clothes and jumped into that lake, I thought, ‘Wow, I bet that lake is really cold.’ And then I thought, ‘Wow, There’s an actor without fear.’”

Reese Witherspoon and Kate Winslet at BAFTA event in 2007

Reese teased that she couldn’t tell her personal stories about Kate because “they’re all too bawdy or tawdry or drunken to tell.”

While the exact quote isn’t available, the fan site noted that among the “too embarrassing” stories were “the time they contemplated laser hair removal and… or that time on the freeway when they pulled over and.. or that really funny thing that happened when they were both in their underwear.”

The laser hair removal comment gave Kate‘s identity away.

While it doesn’t sound like Reese and Kate ever reconciled their friendship, based on the new comments, they did reunite many years later.

Witherspoon and Winslet have been friends for years, often seen supporting each other at various events and award shows. However, recent interactions between the two have been noticeably absent, leading fans to believe that there may have been some falling out between the two actresses.

Fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment at the rumored rift between Witherspoon and Winslet, with many expressing their hope that the two will be able to reconcile their differences.

  • As Dragon Age Fans Fear the Death of the Series, One Former BioWare Developer Offers Words of Reassurance: ‘Dragon Age Isn’t Dead Because It’s Yours Now’

Following layoffs at BioWare that saw the exit of many key developers of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, one former writer on the series has moved to reassure fans by saying: “DA isn’t dead because it’s yours now.”

This week, EA restructured BioWare to focus on Mass Effect 5 only. Some who worked on Dragon Age: The Veilguard were moved to projects at other EA studios (Game Developer reported that John Epler, Veilguard’s creative director, was sent to work on Full Circle’s upcoming skateboarding game Skate). Others, however, revealed they were laid off and were now seeking work.

The decision followed EA’s announcement that Dragon Age: The Veilguard had underperformed on its expectations for the long-awaited action RPG. EA said Dragon Age “engaged” 1.5 million players during its recent financial quarter, which was down nearly 50% from the company’s projections.

Notably, EA did not say the 1.5 million number was unit sales (Dragon Age: The Veilguard was also available as a part of EA’s Play Pro subscription service). Additionally, it’s not clear whether EA is counting a free trial of the game that was available through the cheaper EA Play subscription in the 1.5 million number either.

Either way, EA’s announcement, its restructure of BioWare, and confirmation of layoffs have combined to create the sense within the Dragon Age fandom that the series is pretty much dead. There is no DLC planned for The Veilguard, and BioWare’s work on the game came to an end last week with what sounded like its last major update.

But Dragon Age: The Veilguard senior writer Sheryl Chee, who was moved from BioWare to work on Iron Man at Motive, took to social media to offer words of hope.

“I’m now with Motive,” Chee began. “It’s been a hard two years seeing my team get chipped away and having to still keep going. But I’m still employed, so there’s that.”

Then, in response to a fan who lamented the death of Dragon Age, Chee replied to say the series now belongs to the fans who will keep it alive with their own contributions.

“So a cool French woman dropped a cool quote from Camus on me today: ‘In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.’ (I mean, who does resistance like the French, right?) We’re going through it right now. It’s a lot, everywhere…

“But DA isn’t dead. There’s fic. There’s art. There’s the connections we made through the games and because of the games. Technically EA/BioWare owns the IP but you can’t own an idea, no matter how much they want to.

“DA isn’t dead because it’s yours now.”

Then: “So someone just reposted my thing saying they’ll write a giant AU and that’s what I’m talking about. If DA has inspired you to do something, if it sparks that Invincible summer, then it’s done it’s job, and it has been my greatest honor to have been a part of that.”

Dragon Age began life with 2010’s Dragon Age: Origins, which was followed up just a year later by Dragon Age 2. Dragon Age: Inquisition released three years later, in 2014. But it took a decade for the latest sequel, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, to come out.

In September, former Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah, who left BioWare in 2020, revealed that Dragon Age Inquisition had sold over 12 million copies, and “massively” oversold EA’s internal projections for the game.

EA has yet to outright say Dragon Age is dead, but it’s hard to see a new game in the series any time soon, if ever, given what’s happened to BioWare itself and the full focus on Mass Effect 5. As for Mass Effect, EA said a “core team” at BioWare is developing the next Mass Effect game under the leadership of veterans from the original trilogy, including Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts, Parrish Ley, and others. “While we’re not sharing numbers, the studio has the right number of people in the right roles to work on Mass Effect at this stage of development,” EA told IGN.

As Dragon Age Fans Fear the Death of the Series, One Former BioWare Developer Offers Words of Reassurance: ‘Dragon Age Isn’t Dead Because It’s Yours Now’

In recent years, Dragon Age fans have expressed growing concerns about the future of the beloved RPG series. With BioWare’s focus shifting to other projects and the lack of concrete updates on the next installment, many feared that Dragon Age may be on the brink of death.

However, one former BioWare developer has stepped forward to offer words of reassurance to anxious fans. In a recent interview, the developer, who worked on previous Dragon Age titles, emphasized that the series is far from dead.

“Dragon Age isn’t dead because it’s yours now,” the developer stated. “The beauty of a series like Dragon Age is that it belongs to the fans just as much as it does to the developers. Your love and passion for the world and characters are what keep it alive.”

The developer went on to urge fans to continue supporting the series, whether through fan art, fan fiction, or simply by spreading the word about the games. They also hinted at exciting developments on the horizon for Dragon Age, assuring fans that there is still plenty to look forward to.

So, for all the Dragon Age fans out there feeling anxious about the future of the series, take heart. Dragon Age isn’t dead – it’s simply evolving, with the help of its dedicated fanbase. As long as fans continue to show their love and support for the series, there’s no limit to where the world of Thedas can go.

  • Randy Travis Announces “Special” New Single “Horses in Heaven,” Shares a Preview with Fans

Country legend Randy Travis will release a new single titled “Horses in Heaven” tomorrow (January 31). The track comes just eight months after he released his AI-assisted comeback single “Where That Came From” last May.

Yesterday (January 29), Travis took to social media to share the big news. In a lengthy post, he explained how special the new song is to him and expressed his joy at being able to release new music after suffering a stroke that prevented him from singing or speaking.

“When I began my recovery almost 12 years ago many things changed but one thing stayed the same: my desire to share new music and create new memories,” he wrote in the post. “I’m grateful to have the opportunity to continue doing that thanks to family, friends, fans, and God’s grace,” he added.

“After my last release, I told you there would be more where that came from and I’m excited to jump back in the saddle and release a brand new recording, ‘Horses in Heaven,’” Travis shared. “I still remember the first time I stepped into those stirrups as a little boy, and my horses have been family to me ever since,” he added.

“This song is a special one and I can’t wait for all of you to hear it,” Travis wrote before concluding the post by urging fans to pre-save the song ahead of its release.

How Randy Travis and His Team Harness AI to Create New Music

Randy Travis suffered a major stroke in 2013. Fortunately, he survived the ordeal but it left him with aphasia which stole his ability to speak and sing. However, it didn’t take his desire to create music for the generations of country music fans who want to hear his silky baritone. More than a decade after everyone thought his career was over, technology allowed Travis to sing once again, kind of.

When Travis and his team created “Where That Came From” last year, they combined an AI model based on his vocal track from the song “1982” while James DuPre provided the vocal track for the new song. Kyle Lehning, Travis’ longtime producer, collaborator, and friend combined the new vocal track with the AI model to build the new single. “Horses in Heaven” was likely created by a similar process.

  • ‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Makes Narrow Final Jeopardy Miss: Fans React

It all came down to a single syllable on Jeopardy!‘s Tournament of Champions quarterfinal on Thursday (January 30).

The episode featured Tennessee political organizer Will Stewart, Ohio-based systems administrator Ryan Manton, and Washington software engineer Mehal Shah competing for a coveted spot in the semifinals, and they all came to play.

Things got off to a solid enough start for Shah, who nabbed the first Daily Double and correctly identified hummingbirds as the answer to the clue, “These avians can rotate their wings to generate lift while flapping both up & down, enabling them to hover in the air.” He had a couple of incorrect answers but still led the pack at the halfway mark with $4,200 to Manton’s $4,000 and Stewart’s $2,200.

Then, the second round saw Stewart and Manton soar past Shah to nearly double his score each. Manton nabbed both Daily Doubles and got both right. (In the category “Communication,” he correctly named Estonian as the answer to, “The Baltic-Finnic languages include Finnish & this national language spoken due south across the Viro Strait,” and doubled his $7,400. Then in the category “Authors,” he knew that Babbitt was the character described as, “Sinclair Lewis created this guy, a symbol of materials conformity; Matthew Broderick played him on stage in 2024.” For the latter, though, he only wagered $100.)

Heading into Final Jeopardy, Will Stewart and Ryan Manton were neck and neck with $14,900 and $14,400 respectively, with Mehal Shah trailing behind with $7,400. The latter was still very much in it, though, so Final Jeopardy was clutch, especially given the closeness of the two highest scores — a miscalculated wager could change the dynamics entirely.

In the category “Latin Phrases,” the Final Jeopardy clue was: “After Camillagate, a fire at Windsor Castle & marriage problems in her family, Queen Elizabeth II dubbed 1992 this.” The answer, of course, is annus horribilus, and only Shah seemed to know it… but there was a big problem. He misspelled his answer by writing, “What is an Annus Horriblis?” and because the typo also removed a syllable from the answer, it was counted as wrong.

Shah had wagered $7,001, which meant if he’d just gotten the other “i” in there, he would’ve won. Alas, Manton (who incorrectly guessed “What is annum no grata”) wagered small and lost just $501, leaving him with $13,899 and a ticket to the semifinals because Stewart’s incorrect answer (“What is anno terribilis”) was much more costly at a loss of $14,900 and a total score of $900.

After the episode, Stewart took to Reddit to lament his Final Jeopardy results, writing, “My high school Latin teacher liked my Facebook post about my appearance on this episode. I’ve already mentally composed a heartfelt apology for letting him down.”

Meanwhile, fans on the same thread pointed to the rule book to assure other viewers that the decision to mark Shah’s answer wrong — despite him clearly knowing the answer — was the right move on the producers’ part. Referencing the official rule that while incorrect spelling doesn’t invalidate an answer, it still needs to be “phonetically correct and not add or subtract any extraneous sounds or syllables,” one commenter wrote, “Leaving out the middle ‘i’ in ‘horribilis’ drops a syllable. The show was correct to rule against Mehal’s response.”

Another added, “Ugh, one of those ‘tough but ultimately fair’ rulings for the FJ response…. I think the debate over this clue is more if it should have been in this ToC or Masters instead.” The user went on to say, though, “Will definitely deserves kudos for leading before FJ, and Mehal was this close to a come from behind win. All three players definitely made it a close game!”

The recent episode of Jeopardy! had fans on the edge of their seats as reigning champion, Sarah, narrowly missed the final Jeopardy question. After a close game throughout the entire episode, Sarah found herself in the lead going into the final round.

The final Jeopardy category was American History, a topic Sarah had studied extensively. With only a few seconds left on the clock, she confidently wrote down her answer. However, when the results were revealed, it was clear that Sarah’s response was incorrect, costing her the game.

Fans took to social media to express their shock and disappointment at Sarah’s narrow miss. Some praised her for her impressive performance throughout the episode, while others couldn’t believe she had missed such a crucial question.

Despite the loss, Sarah remained gracious and thanked her competitors for a tough match. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to compete on such a prestigious game show and vowed to continue studying and improving for future appearances.

Jeopardy! fans will surely be eagerly awaiting Sarah’s next appearance on the show, hoping to see her redeem herself and continue her winning streak.
