  • Fantasy Basketball Pickups: Kel’el Ware takes over as starter

It’s finally happening. The Kel’el Ware breakout has arrived. Rostered in just 29% of leagues, Ware should be considered a must-roster player at this point. On Sunday, Ware started the second half of their win over the Spurs and contributed 25 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in 34 minutes. He had slowly taken on a larger role off the bench, and he had a few strong performances prior to that, but starting the second half was a sign that he had earned more responsibility.

On Tuesday, Ware moved into the starting lineup alongside Bam Adebayo in the frontcourt. It was the first start of his career, and he supplied 20 points, 16 rebounds, two blocks and two 3-pointers in 39 minutes. There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Heat, specifically with what they’re going to do with Jimmy Butler. However, Ware has been a beacon of hope during these confusing times in Miami. The Heat still have two more games this week and three games next week.

Here are a few other options to consider streaming:

    PF/C Guerschon Yabusele (16% rostered), Philadelphia 76ers

Joel Embiid’s availability will continue to be one of the biggest question marks in the league, which has opened up a ton of minutes for Yabusele and Andre Drummond, when available. Yabusele came off the bench on Tuesday, but he played more minutes than Drummond and was more productive statistically. The 76ers have two more games this week with a back-to-back on Friday and Saturday, and they start next week with a back-to-back on Tuesday and Wednesday. Even if Embiid returns soon, he will miss at least two of their next four games. He is set to be re-evaluated soon, which should provide more clarity, but until he returns, Yabusele should be worth rostering.

SG/SF Duncan Robinson (14% rostered), Miami Heat

Robinson returned to the starting lineup three games ago and has been very productive. He had seven assists in his first start, and he has scored 43 points and hit 11 triples over their last two games. Robinson hasn’t been a dependable fantasy option this season, but he has the hot hand right now, making him worth considering if you need 3-pointers.

PG/SG Anthony Black (12% rostered), Orlando Magic

Black got the start on Tuesday and continued his productive stretch. This was his sixth straight game scoring in double figures, and he contributed 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and one 3-pointer as a starter against Toronto with Cole Anthony (illness) sidelined. If Anthony remains out against Portland on Thursday, Black should continue to start and turn in strong value.

PG/SG Nick Smith Jr. (9% rostered), Charlotte Hornets

Smith Jr. remains widely available, but he has started their last two games and been productive. He has averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 1.0 steal and 4.0 threes per game as a starter, and with Brandon Miller out indefinitely, Smith Jr.’s starting job should be safe. They have three more games this week and two more four-game weeks after that.

Fantasy basketball managers, it’s time to take notice of rookie center Kel’el Ware. The young big man has officially taken over as the starting center for the Memphis Grizzlies and is making a big impact on both ends of the court.

Ware has been putting up impressive numbers in his new role, averaging double-digit points, rebounds, and blocks in his last few games. He’s showing off his shot-blocking prowess and has been a force on the boards.

If you’re looking to add a big man who can provide you with blocks, rebounds, and efficient scoring, Ware is your guy. He has the potential to be a game-changer for your fantasy team and could help lead you to victory.

Don’t wait too long to scoop up Ware off the waiver wire, as his value is only going to continue to rise as he settles into his starting role. Get ahead of the curve and add him to your roster before it’s too late.

  • NBA Fantasy: DFS lineup picks for Jan. 21

Austin Reaves is fresh off a 38-point win vs. Brooklyn on Friday and gets a favorable matchup vs. Washington tonight.

It’s Tuesday, January 21st. The National Basketball Association (NBA) has five games on the schedule, with a doubleheader on TNT/truTV/Max. The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets tip off at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Barclays Center in the front end of the nationally televised doubleheader, while the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets meet in the second end at 10:00 p.m. ET.

    NBA DFS Core Plays

Tyler Herro (PG, SG – MI)

    • DraftKings: $8,300
    • FanDuel: $7,900

Tyler Herro is averaging 24.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 3.8 3-pointers per game in 11 games this month. In the first meeting with the Trail Blazers on January 11th in Portland, Herro was good for 32 points, five rebounds, five assists, and seven 3-pointers.

Portland has allowed 116.7 points per game to rank 24th in the NBA while allowing teams to hit 47.9% from the field and 37.8% from behind the 3-point line.

    Tyrese Maxey (PG – PHI)

    • DraftKings: $9,900
    • FanDuel: $9,700

Tyrese Maxey has a favorable matchup against the Denver Nuggets, who have an opponent rank of 20th. The point guard is averaging 44.9 fantasy points per game.

Maxey has been a powerhouse scorer, and he is coming off a 37-point showing in 41 minutes at Milwaukee on Sunday. He was 14-of-28 from the field, including six 3-pointers, while adding seven assists and six rebounds with a steal. That’s seven straight games with 28+ points. He has grabbed at least six rebounds in three of the past five, with five or more assists in nine games in January. You get maximum effort with Maxey, and you also get what you pay for.

    Karl-Anthony Towns (C – NYK)

    • DraftKings: $9,700
    • FanDuel: $10,000

Karl-Anthony Towns hits the floor against the Brooklyn Nets with an impressive 52.1 fantasy points per game. He is facing a Nets defense with an opponent rank of 23rd. In eight games this month, he is averaging 28.3 points, 16 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and 2.3 3-pointers per game.

Towns is coming off an off night, though, hitting just five of his 18 attempts from the field, and scoring only 13 points. It was his lowest scoring total since December 21st in New Orleans. In his most recent meeting with the Nets on November 17th, he went for 26 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, and one blocked shot on 10-of-16 shooting. Look for a bounce-back performance tonight.

    NBA DFS Cash Game Targets

Deni Avdija (SF, PF – POR)

    • DraftKings: $6,800
    • FanDuel: $6,900

Deni Avdija has racked up a respectable 30.1 fantasy points per game. He faces a Heat team ranked in the bottom third of the league defensively against opposing frontcourt players.

Avdija has managed back-to-back double-doubles with 17.5 points, 12 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game in the past two outings. He has four double-doubles in the past seven games. At this price point, he is a tremendous value.

Jimmy Butler (SF, PF – MIA)

    • DraftKings: $7,500
    • FanDuel: $7,500

Jimmy Butler has been a bit erratic since his seven-game team-imposed suspension. He had 18 points against the Nuggets on Friday in his return, but he managed just eight points on 3-of-7 shooting with seven assists, three rebounds, and two blocks on Sunday.

Butler has a favorable matchup with the Trail Blazers. He missed the first meeting between these two teams when he was suspended. His salary is super low for his skillset. This value won’t last long.

    Austin Reaves (PG – LAL)

    • DraftKings: $8,000
    • FanDuel: $7,700

The Lakers are hosting the struggling Washington Wizards, and you always want to have a couple of opponents of the Wiz in your lineup, if not a healthy DFS stack. The Wizards are horrific defensively, allowing 122.8 points per game (30th in the NBA) while allowing teams to hit 47.6% from the field and 36.4% from downtown.

Austin Reaves didn’t do so hot last time out against the Clippers, going for 14 points with five turnovers. Before that, in a favorable defensive matchup, Reaves dropped 38 points on the Brooklyn Nets with four 3-pointers.

    NBA DFS GPP Targets

Cole Anthony (PG, SG – ORL)

    • DraftKings: $6,500
    • FanDuel: $6,500

With Jalen Suggs ruled out for another game due to a strained back, Cole Anthony and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope should see bumps in usage. Anthony is coming off a poor 4-of-13 shooting night against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, ending up with just nine points.

However, he had 11+ points in the previous seven outings. He is averaging 15.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.5 3-pointers per game across 10 games in January while averaging just short of 30 minutes.

Mikal Bridges (SG, SF – NYK)

    • DraftKings: $6,200
    • FanDuel: $6,400

Mikal Bridges was good for 26 points on 12-of-17 shooting in just 27 minutes on Monday against the Atlanta Hawks. He also tacked on four assists, one rebound, and a 3-pointer. Bridges has come alive in the past four games, going for at least 23 points in three of those games, while hitting 15 total 3-pointers. If he can replicate those stats, he’s a steal at this price.

Kelly Oubre Jr. (SG, SF – PHI)

    • DraftKings: $6,300
    • FanDuel: $6,800

Kelly Oubre Jr. has been rolling along in January, posting 16.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 3-pointers per game in eight contests. He has gradually improved throughout the season, averaging 12.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game in December and 10.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in November.

Don’t expect this price to last for long, as his role continues to remain constant and his production picks up.

    NBA DFS Value Plays

    Adem Bona (C – PHI)

    • DraftKings: $4,100
    • FanDuel: $4,000

The Philadelphia frontcourt is a problem right now, especially in the middle. Joel Embiid continues to sit with his knee injury, while Andre Drummond (toe) is a question mark to return. In addition, Guerschon Yabusele, a favorite of ours in recent weeks, is uncertain to go due to a knee ailment. Adem Bona and Pete Nance could see meaningful minutes in the frontcourt.

Bona has looked good in his past two games with extended minutes, averaging 11 points and six rebounds per game. He is a perfect 9-for-9 from the field in that span. Across the past four games, he made all 13 of his field-goal attempts.

Dalton Knecht (SG, SF – LAL)

    • DraftKings: $3,900
    • FanDuel: $4,000

Dalton Knecht is occasionally worth a look when the matchup is favorable. Facing Washington on Tuesday night is one of those situations. The Wizards are horrible defensively, and if the game turns into a blowout, Knecht could see a larger-than-usual role.

Even if it is relatively close, Knecht should shake a few for double-digit points and a handful of 3-pointer opportunities. Rostering Knecht will allow you to spend more lettuce up top on high-ticket items.

    Jonas Valančiūnas (C – WAS)

    • DraftKings: $5,000
    • FanDuel: $5,600

Jonas Valančiūnas turned back the clock on Sunday in Sacramento, going for 23 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists, connecting on nine of his 11 attempts from the field in 23 minutes.

If you need a cheap option in the middle, Valančiūnas has been playing fairly well in January, averaging 11.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in just over 19 minutes per game.

Are you ready to dominate in NBA Fantasy Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) on Jan. 21st? Look no further, as we have some lineup picks that will give you the edge over your competition.

Point Guard: Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks) – Doncic is a triple-double threat every time he steps on the court and has a favorable matchup against a weak defensive team.

Shooting Guard: James Harden (Brooklyn Nets) – Harden is a scoring machine and can stuff the stat sheet in multiple categories. He should have a big night against a struggling opponent.

Small Forward: LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers) – James is a consistent performer and always brings his A-game. He should have a solid outing against a middle-of-the-pack defense.

Power Forward: Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks) – The Greek Freak is a dominant force on both ends of the court and should have a big game against a below-average opponent.

Center: Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets) – Jokic is a versatile big man who can score, rebound, and facilitate for his teammates. He should have a strong performance against a team that struggles to defend the paint.

Utilize these lineup picks to build a winning DFS lineup on Jan. 21st and watch your fantasy team climb to the top of the leaderboard. Good luck!

  • Fantasy basketball picks and betting tips for Tuesday

ESPN’s fantasy basketball daily cheat sheet is your pregame destination before you set your lineups for that night’s games. Here you’ll read our best advice for the night, including a selection of players you can stream as well as game-by-game injury reports and player projections.

What you need to know for Tuesday’s games

There are five games on tap for Tuesday and all five feature a team over .500 matching up against a team at least 10 games under .500. Thus, it shouldn’t be surprising that four of the five games feature double-digit spreads.

In that other game — the one between the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors — the 1.5-point spread marks it as the only matchup the books expect to be competitive. The Magic have struggled since Paolo Banchero returned from injury, losing four out of five games with their past three losses coming by an average of 23 points. The Raptors, meanwhile, only have 10 wins on the season, although two of them have come in their past three games (against the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors).

Let’s dig further into all of Tuesday’s action below as we look for fantasy hoops streamers and betting angles of interest.

    Tuesday’s Stream Team

Scoot Henderson, PG, Portland Trail Blazers (available in 34.5% of ESPN leagues): Henderson is currently one of the most added players in the league, and the way he’s playing, he should be universally rostered. Over his past four games (three of them starts), Henderson has averaged 25.3 PPG, 7.8 APG, a 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 3-pointers and 2.3 combined steals and blocks. He has not yet earned a full-time starting role, but the Trail Blazers are deep into rebuilding mode. As the No. 3 pick in last year’s draft, Henderson is clearly considered to be a cornerstone in a future that appears to be beginning right now.

Kel’el Ware, C, Miami Heat (91.3% available): Ware was one of the most impressive rookies at 2024’s Las Vegas Summer League, but started this season very slowly. He’s picking it up in a major way of late, though, almost averaging a double-double with 15.3 PPG and 9.8 RPG over his last four games. He has also averaged 1.3 3-pointers and 1.3 blocked shots during this stretch, even playing more than 30 minutes in two of these games. He could be in for another big-minute effort on Tuesday in a game with blowout potential.

Kelly Oubre Jr., SF/SG, Philadelphia 76ers (49.8% available): Oubre is in this space again, although this might be the last time since he has finally moved above the 50% threshold for being rostered. Still, Oubre is an every-game starter for the 76ers, and with Joel Embiid out, he’s an impact player. Oubre has scored in double digits seven times in his last eight games, averaging 16.9 PPG, 6.8 RPG and 1.6 SPG during that stretch.

    Snellings’ bets for Tuesday

Raptors (+3.5 points) over Magic (-155)

I bought an extra couple of points of spread here, because the Raptors still have just 10 wins. However, looking at both teams, the Raptors are simply playing better right now. They’ve won two out of three (including the big one over the Celtics), showing they are playing competitive ball. The Magic have struggled of late and their three consecutive losses by a total of 69 points should be all the proof you need. But, if you need more, they’re also dealing with major injuries and even though they have Paolo Banchero back, he’s still working off the rust from his long injury layoff.

Jerami Grant (POR) over 11.5 total points (-125)

Even in a down season, Grant is still averaging 14.8 PPG. He managed just seven points in his first game back following a nine-game absence, but bounced back in Sunday’s second game back with 18 points. Grant’s minutes increased from 25 to 30 minutes over those two games, indicating that he is ready to start playing his typical minutes. I’m expecting a more typical scoring performance from him on Tuesday.

Mikal Bridges (NYK) over 15.5 points (-120)

Bridges has really picked up his scoring of late, averaging 22.8 PPG on 54.5 FG% and 55.6 3P% over his past four games. On Tuesday, he’ll be facing his former team — a Brooklyn Nets squad that ranks 25th in the NBA in team defensive rating with 116.9 points allowed per 100 possessions.

Nikola Jokic (DEN) to record a triple-double (+145)

Jokic has averaged a triple-double over his past nine games (28.2 PPG, 15.1 RPG, 11.0 APG), recording six triple-doubles in those nine games. In all three games where he fell short, it was only by either one assist (twice) or one rebound (once). Jokic is just 0.1 APG short of averaging a triple-double for the season. On Tuesday, he’s getting plus-money to accomplish something that is pretty much his daily expectation. That’s a yes from me.

Are you ready for some fantasy basketball action? Here are some picks and betting tips for Tuesday’s games to help you dominate your competition:

    1. Giannis Antetokounmpo – The reigning MVP is always a solid pick, especially against the Orlando Magic who have struggled defensively this season.

    2. Luka Doncic – Doncic has been putting up monster numbers this season and should have a big game against the Golden State Warriors.

    3. Karl-Anthony Towns – Towns is a scoring machine and should have no trouble putting up big numbers against the struggling Sacramento Kings.

    Betting Tips:

    1. Look for teams with high-scoring offenses and weak defenses. These matchups often result in high-scoring games and can provide opportunities for betting on the over.

    2. Pay attention to injury reports. Key players being out can drastically change the outcome of a game and provide value in betting opportunities.

    3. Consider the home-court advantage. Teams playing at home tend to perform better and can be a good bet to cover the spread.

Good luck with your fantasy basketball picks and bets on Tuesday’s games!

  • Fantasy Basketball Power Rankings: Mark Williams Rising

An eventful NBA week saw one big man exponentially outpace his season-long production with a pair of standout performances, as well as a talented point guard take a big leap after being out of the top five altogether a week ago. We also have several other familiar names rounding out the top fantasy performers, so let’s dive in to a breakdown of what led to each of their stellar stretches.

The following players averaged the most fantasy points per game last week (two-game minimum):

    #1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Thunder

    Last Week: 57.4 FP/G Season Rank: 4 (53.9 FP/G)

Despite a missed game due to a wrist injury, Gilgeous-Alexander still shot to the top of the fantasy ranks this week with the help of the 32- and 40-point performances that immediately preceded his absence. SGA then enjoyed a triumphant return Sunday at the expense of the Nets, generating a 27-point, 10-assist double-double that also included four steals. The 2018 first-round pick shot a jaw-dropping 67.3% over the three-game sample as well, and he handed out at least eight dimes while leading OKC to an undefeated mark in the three games he suited up for.

    #2. Mark Williams, Hornets

    Last Week: 57.0 FP/G Season Rank: 73 (32.7 FP/G)

Williams is the name that jumps off the page this week, even though the big man was already enjoying a solid season prior to his recent breakout. The big man offered a glimpse of what was to come when

    #2. Mark Williams, Hornets

    Last Week: 57.0 FP/G Season Rank: 73 (32.7 FP/G)

Williams is the name that jumps off the page this week, even though the big man was already enjoying a solid season prior to his recent breakout. The big man offered a glimpse of what was to come when he turned in a 24-point, 16-rebound double-double a week ago Sunday, but he started the week in even better fashion by going off for a career-high 31 points, and adding 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block, against the Jazz on Wednesday. Williams posted a 19-point, 19-rebound double-double as an encore versus the Bulls on Friday, serving as one of the key figures in Charlotte’s 2-0 week.

    #3. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks

    Last Week: 56.8 FP/G Season Rank: 2 (57.8 FP/G)

Antetokounmpo’s Bucks have now won seven of the last eight games, and the ultra-talented big man played an integral role in Milwaukee’s 4-0 run over the last seven days. Giannis generated three double-doubles and his fifth triple-double of the campaign, and he also topped 30 points in three instances. The Greek Freak certainly has lofty standards, but his averages of 32.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists during the week stand out by any measure.

    #4. Trae Young, Hawks

    Last Week: 56.7 FP/G  Season Rank: 13 (45.4 FP/G)

Young continues to deal with lingering Achilles tendinitis, and he did miss a game this past week with a rib contusion. However, the 2018 first-round pick shined in the two games he did play, which included a season-best 43-point tally against the Suns on Tuesday. He followed that remarkable effort with a 28-point, 11-assist double-double that also included a pair of blocks and steals apiece in a noteworthy overtime victory against the Celtics on Saturday. Jalen Johnson has returned from his shoulder injury, but Young, unsurprisingly, continues to be the linchpin of Atlanta’s attack on the majority of nights.

    #5. Nikola Jokic, Nuggets

    Last Week: 56.3 FP/G  Season Rank: 1 (65.0 FP/G)

What could be considered a “down” week for Jokic might qualify as a career-best stretch for many players. Despite the fact he tumbled from last week’s top spot to No. 5 this week, Jokic still churned out another trio of triple-doubles while helping lead Denver to a 3-0 mark. The Joker’s offensive production (18.0 PPG) was relatively unremarkable by his standards, but he complemented it with 13.3 rebounds, 10.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks across just 29.9 minutes per game.

    This Week’s Preview:

The following players are top fantasy point producers and play at least three games next week with fewer than two matchups against top-10 defenses:

    Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Thunder (53.9 FP/G) – UTA, DAL, @POR

LaMelo Ball, Hornets (48.4 FP/G) – DAL, @MEM, POR, NOP

    Karl-Anthony Towns, Knicks (49.8 FP/G) – ATL, @BKN, SAC

Trae Young, Hawks (45.4 FP/G) – @NYK, DET, TOR, TOR

    Kevin Durant, Suns (44.7 FP/G) – @CLE, @BKN, WAS

In the world of fantasy basketball, one player who has been steadily climbing the power rankings is Mark Williams. The young center for the Duke Blue Devils has been making a name for himself with his impressive performances on the court.

Williams has been a dominant force in the paint, showcasing his shot-blocking ability and rebounding skills. His improved offensive game has also caught the attention of fantasy basketball owners, making him a valuable asset to have on a roster.

As the season progresses, Williams continues to elevate his game and solidify his spot in the power rankings. With his strong performances and potential for growth, it’s no surprise that he is quickly becoming a top fantasy basketball pick.
