Stephen Fry recalls feeling ‘afraid’ after suffering fall

Stephen Fry became “afraid” of making basic movements after he fell from a stage in 2023.
The 67-year-old actor battled chronic pain after he fell at The O2 in London, and Stephen has admitted that it changed his entire approach to life for a period of time.
Stephen – who is now off medication and pain free – told BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme: “You almost call it a friend and say ‘It’s OK, I know why you’re there’ and you’re not a failure on the part of evolution, or God, or whatever you want to call nature.”
The veteran actor discussed his health troubles with Professor Irene Tracey, the vice-chancellor of the University of Oxford, who has dedicated her career to exploring the treatment of pain.
He asked her: “Are we wrong to believe that it’s rather British to think that pain is something that should be endured?”
Stephen also observed that people sometimes believe “we should suffer if we have this injury, that it is the natural course”.
The actor suffered his fall in September 2023, and he subsequently acknowledged that he was “very fortunate” to still be able to walk.
Stephen said on ‘Good Morning Britain’: “It was pretty nasty. I broke my leg in two places, my pelvis in four places and a bunch of ribs, so it was really quite serious.
“I was giving this lecture. When I finished I took my bow and walked off stage not knowing that the bulk of the stage I was walking on had a six foot drop onto concrete. It was grim.
“The orthopedic surgeon made it clear that he was dealing with people who had had a fall from lesser heights, who might not walk again.
“The two things that you don’t want to hit are your skull or your spine. And I was very fortunate that I didn’t, so there was no suggestion of either cognitive impairment.”

In a recent interview, Stephen Fry opened up about his experience of feeling ‘afraid’ after suffering a fall. The beloved actor and comedian revealed that the incident left him shaken and fearful of the potential consequences.

Fry recounted how the fall occurred unexpectedly and how he struggled to come to terms with the physical and emotional aftermath. He admitted that the incident made him acutely aware of his vulnerability and mortality, leading to feelings of fear and uncertainty.

Despite the scare, Fry highlighted the importance of seeking help and support during difficult times. He urged others to prioritize their mental and physical well-being and to reach out for assistance when needed.

Fry’s candid confession serves as a powerful reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of taking care of oneself. His honesty and vulnerability in sharing his experience are sure to resonate with many who have faced similar challenges.

Ultimately, Fry’s story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the strength that can be found in facing our fears head-on. His words serve as a source of inspiration and encouragement for anyone navigating their own struggles.

  • Gut Feeling: Predictions for Cowboys-Eagles

    Gut Feeling: Predictions for Cowboys-Eagles

The Cowboys are one of the NFL’s hottest teams right now, winning four of the last five games. The Eagles have also won four out of five, but it’s more like 10 out of 11 considering they lost for the first time on Sunday to break a 10-game winning streak.

The big question mark for the Eagles is the health of QB Jalen Hurts. Will they have to turn to their backup Kenny Pickett? The Cowboys know that feeling, considering Cooper Rush will make his eighth start of the season. He’s 9-4 overall as a starter but 0-2 against the Eagles.

The Cowboys are 7-8 and need two wins to close out the season to earn a winning record for Mike McCarthy, who is still coaching for a new contract. Has he already done enough?

Here’s how the staff writers see Sunday’s game going as they make their final predictions:

Patrik: Ah, Grinch SZN feels spectacular, doesn’t it? With nothing to play for other than being the villain and spoiling playoff odds and seeding for their final few opponents, the Cowboys went out and did exactly what I hoped they would against the Bucs. Now come the Eagles, and they need this win to help their odds of taking the No. 1 seed in the playoffs and then likely resting their starters in the finale but, no sir, I am not here for that or a sweep. Much like last week, there’s little that works in favor of the Cowboys heading into this matchup and some will likely predict a sweep on Sunday afternoon. I could see why.

But given how the defense has gone full Thanos over the past month or so and in how CeeDee Lamb’s gutsiness is helping Cooper Rush and the offense to heat up, plus the offensive line protecting well, this feels like one the Cowboys really want to take from the Eagles. And given Micah Parsons’ recent, ahem, colorful comments about the rival near his hometown of Harrisburg, count me in for yet another massive upset and a smile from me that’ll rival John McClane’s (Die Hard is a Christmas movie, by the way). Happy new year, you Philthy animals. 27-20, Cowboys

Tommy: The Cowboys losing CeeDee Lamb for this game is an absolute gut punch. He has 59 more receptions and 712 more yards than Dallas’ next leading receiver this season, with a good chunk of that coming while playing with one good shoulder. Pair that with an Eagles defense that has playmakers everywhere and held the Cowboys to six points in their first meeting this season, and things are starting to look gloomy in this game. Dallas’ path to victory is making this a defensive game, something Micah Parsons predicted earlier this week.

With Philadelphia trending towards playing without Jalen Hurts, getting pressure on Kenny Pickett and trying to force him into some mistakes would be the ideal situation for the Cowboys. That’s all well and good, but the Eagles also have Saquon Barkley, who can nullify all of that as he chases Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record. I think the Eagles will be a bit too much to handle in this game. Eagles 24, Cowboys 10

Nick: My gut tells me this is going to be an odd game. I think the weather is going to be a big factor in this. I have a feeling at halftime, people in the press box will be complaining over the type of game we’re watching because it might not be the most entertaining game of all time. Then again, that happened in Washington when the game was 3-3 at the break. It turned out to be one of the wildest rollercoaster rides of the season. So I’m guessing it’ll be something like that – a slow start, especially if it’s Pickett vs. Rush.

The Eagles will try to feed Barkley all day, which isn’t a terrible strategy regardless who is the quarterback. I think the Cowboys defense will continue to play well. But because the Cowboys seem to be holding the white flag – maybe they’re not waving it yet – but they’re holding it, and the Eagles are fighting to win the division and a first-round bye, I see Philly holding on to a win. It’ll be a weird game, but I’ll pick the Eagles 19-14.

Kyle Youmans: The win against Tampa Bay last week proved many things, including that this Cowboys team will fight down to the final whistle in 2024. This team will fight for this game despite their playoff hopes being deleted, and they’ll relish the chance to play spoiler.

However, in this NFC East rivalry, only one team truly has something tangible to play for. That’s the Philadelphia Eagles, fighting for playoff seeding and momentum going into the NFC Playoffs. After the Cowboys lose another All-Pro (CeeDee Lamb) for the final two games, I think they lose the game as well. Especially against one of the best teams in football. It pains me to say it, Eagles 31-21

Mickey Spagnola: Until about 3 p.m. on Thursday, thought the Cowboys might have a good chance of taking down what was predictably going to be the Jalen Hurts-less Eagles. After all, they now are going to start their backup quarterback, too, one with far less starting experience than Cowboys backup Cooper Rush. But then came the sobering revelation CeeDee Lamb will be out for the final two games, allowing his painfully sprained A.C. joint to rest and start some serious rehab. Compounding his absence is no. 3 receiver Jalen Tolbert trying to play through the compound dislocation of the lefthand pinky finger, likely trying to play with that finger and his ring finger next door wrapped together. And if that were not enough, even though Philly will be starting backup QB Kenny Pickett, Cowboys starting backup cornerback Amani Oruwariye has been listed as “out” for Sunday’s game, and with Trevon Diggs and Josh Butler already on IR, the Cowboys will be playing with only two of their considered top five corners. Not a good deal when facing Eagles receivers such as A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Heaven help the Cowboys.

As the highly anticipated matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles approaches, many fans are wondering who will come out on top. While both teams have had their ups and downs this season, there’s one thing that could potentially sway the outcome in one team’s favor: gut feeling.

Here are a few predictions based on gut feelings for the upcoming Cowboys-Eagles game:

    1. The Cowboys will come out strong in the first half, taking an early lead and showing off their offensive prowess. However, the Eagles will make a comeback in the second half, thanks to their resilient defense and explosive playmakers.

    2. Both teams will struggle with turnovers, with each team giving up the ball at crucial moments in the game. The team that can capitalize on these turnovers and turn them into points will ultimately come out victorious.

    3. The game will come down to a last-minute field goal, with the outcome hanging in the balance until the very end. The pressure will be on the kickers to come through in the clutch and secure the win for their team.

While these predictions are purely based on gut feelings, one thing is for sure: this Cowboys-Eagles matchup is sure to be an exciting and intense game that fans won’t want to miss. So, grab your jerseys, settle in on the couch, and get ready for some nail-biting football action between two fierce rivals.

In today’s increasingly digital world, cybersecurity is more important than ever. As an MSP, it’s crucial to offer robust cybersecurity solutions to your clients to protect their sensitive data and systems from cyber threats. However, selling cybersecurity services can be a daunting task, especially if you’re not a natural salesperson.

But fear not – there is a secret formula for closing cybersecurity deals without feeling slimy. By simplifying your sales approach and focusing on the value that cybersecurity services can provide to your clients, you can effectively communicate the importance of investing in cybersecurity solutions.

Here are some key tips for simplifying cybersecurity sales for MSPs:

    1. Understand your client’s needs: Before pitching cybersecurity services to a client, take the time to understand their unique cybersecurity needs and concerns. Tailor your sales pitch to address these specific pain points and demonstrate how your solutions can help mitigate their risks.

    2. Focus on the value proposition: Instead of bombarding your clients with technical jargon and complex cybersecurity terms, highlight the tangible benefits of investing in cybersecurity services. Emphasize how these solutions can protect their business, improve their compliance posture, and enhance their overall security posture.

    3. Offer a comprehensive solution: When selling cybersecurity services, it’s important to offer a comprehensive solution that addresses all aspects of cybersecurity, from network security to endpoint protection to data encryption. By providing a holistic approach to cybersecurity, you can show your clients that you are committed to protecting their business from all angles.

    4. Build trust and credibility: In the cybersecurity industry, trust is key. Build trust with your clients by demonstrating your expertise and knowledge in cybersecurity, showcasing your track record of successful cybersecurity implementations, and providing references from satisfied clients.

    5. Follow up and stay engaged: Closing a cybersecurity deal can take time, so don’t be discouraged if a client doesn’t immediately sign on the dotted line. Follow up regularly, stay engaged with your clients, and continue to educate them on the importance of cybersecurity. By demonstrating your commitment to their security needs, you can increase your chances of closing the deal.

By following these tips and focusing on the value proposition of cybersecurity services, you can simplify the sales process and close cybersecurity deals without feeling slimy. Remember, cybersecurity is a critical investment for any business, and by offering robust cybersecurity solutions, you can help your clients protect their valuable assets and stay ahead of cyber threats.
