  • Joan Jett, Patti LaBelle, The Revivalists slated to perform at Jazz Fest • The Tulane Hullabaloo

2025 marks 55 years of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, which kicks off on Apr. 24. This year’s Jazz Fest boasts an impressive lineup of big-name artists and local musicians who properly honor the festival’s legacy.

Those who enjoy indie rock will be excited to hear that Cage the Elephant is returning to Jazz Fest’s lineup since their performance in 2018. Known for songs like “Cigarette Daydreams” and “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked,” Cage the Elephant has won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album twice, and it is no wonder why. The band stands out amongst others in the genre because of the members’ sheer creativity, evident in not just their lyrics and musicality, but in their “wildly cathartic performances” that are nothing short of eccentric.

    Zoe Gellert

This year’s lineup includes many other rock bands, including Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band and Cheap Trick, but possibly the most exciting act will be Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Joan Jett is regarded as the “Queen of Rock n’ Roll,” and she and the Blackhearts, her backup band, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. It goes without saying that Jett will be one of the most — if not the most — anticipated acts at this year’s Jazz Fest and will be a must-see for attendees.

While the festival boasts many names in rock, Jazz Fest 2025 also features many artists of other genres, such as country and folk, which includes Kacey Musgraves. Known for songs like “Butterflies” and “Rainbow,” Kacey Musgraves’s commitment to social justice in her music is evident, tackling themes like LGBTQ+ acceptance that adds a liberal element to her work that is uncommon in the country genre. If her performance at Jazz Fest is anything like her set at Austin City Limits in 2019, her set will be a powerful exhibition of her excellent live vocals and engagement with the crowd.

Another big artist coming to Jazz Fest this year is Laufey. Pronounced “lāy-vāy,” Laufey is an Icelandic-Chinese singer whose goal is “to bring jazz and classical music to [her] generation.” It may seem a lofty aspiration to make jazz and classical music exciting to Gen Z, but Laufey has more than succeeded in her goal, garnering 7.7 million followers on TikTok with popular songs like “From the Start” and “Valentine.” Her music has the soft, melodic quality of a Studio Ghibli soundtrack, and her approach to jazz and classical music adds a 21st-century spin on the genres, making her a unique act to see at this year’s Jazz Fest.

While these big-name artists will entice audiences, it would not be Jazz Fest without paying homage to New Orleans culture and local musicians. First on the list of New Orleans-based artists is The Revivalists, an alternative rock band best known for their song “Wish I Knew You.” The band is deeply connected to the city of New Orleans as when they started out, “[they] were watching New Orleans rebuild after Katrina, and fight to keep the city’s spirit alive.” The band’s name comes directly from this deep connection to the city and the idea that art can revive, honoring New Orleans’s history and resiliency through their music.

This year’s lineup also includes some of New Orleans’s greatest, including Trombone Shorty, Big Freedia and Patti LaBelle. None of these artists are strangers to performing, with Big Freedia being credited with helping to popularize the New Orleans hip-hop subgenre, bounce music, and Patti LaBelle being regarded as the “Godmother of Soul.” Trombone Shorty is also an influential artist, especially at Jazz Fest, as he has been closing the festival for over a decade. These artists are instrumental to New Orleans’s music culture today, and whether you have seen them before or not, they will all be worth a watch.

Spanning two weekends, Jazz Fest’s 2025 lineup is talent-packed and will be sure to excite any concert fan, regardless of music taste. For those interested, check out the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival website for tickets and set times, and have a happy Jazz Fest!

Exciting news for music lovers in New Orleans! The lineup for this year’s Jazz Fest at the Tulane Hullabaloo has just been announced, and it’s sure to be a can’t-miss event. Rock icon Joan Jett, legendary soul singer Patti LaBelle, and the popular indie rock band The Revivalists are all slated to perform at the festival.

Joan Jett, known for hits like “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “Bad Reputation,” is sure to bring her high-energy performance to the stage. Patti LaBelle, with her powerhouse voice and timeless classics like “Lady Marmalade” and “On My Own,” is sure to dazzle the crowd. And The Revivalists, with their unique blend of rock, soul, and funk, are sure to get everyone dancing.

So mark your calendars for the Jazz Fest at the Tulane Hullabaloo and get ready for a weekend of incredible music from some of the biggest names in the industry. Tickets are sure to sell out fast, so be sure to grab yours before it’s too late. See you there!

    Article Views: 363

Austin Psych Fest 2025 brings another slate of indie rock icons, experimental rock and tripped-out sounds, from shoegaze to psychedelic rock and cumbia, to the big South Austin backyard at The Far Out Lounge.

The event has always taken an expansive interpretation of psychedelia, exploring the outer edges of the musical spectrum that continue to be informed and inspired by 1960s sonic experimentation, and a penchant for loud guitars and plenty of reverb. This year’s lineup is no different. Friday night is topped off with post-rock titans Explosions in the Sky, and Godspeed! You Black Emperor, two artists who have conjured up wildly emotive and ethereal music, without any words, a testament to the sheer power of music. Heavy psych rockers Black Mountain and Kadavar round out Day One, with Austin experimentalists Octopus Project and more.

Saturday night brings electronic psych explorers Darkside, indie icon Kim Gordon fresh off her recent Grammy nomination, the cosmic grooves of electro-rock outfit STRFKR, art rock auteur Geordie Greep plus Wombo, Sasami, and more on Day Two.

Day Three brings it all together with ’90s guitar rock icons Dinosaur Jr playing their landmark album Without A Sound, co-headlining with beloved indie rock trio Yo La Tengo, joined by Peruvian cumbia legends Los Mirlos, viral UK alt-rockers BÔA, Seattle quartet La Luz, luminary Dean Wareham of Galaxie 500 playing tracks from the band’s legendary discography, and more incredible tunes from Mystery Lights, Holy Wave, and more, with additional acts for the weekend to be announced.

Tickets are on sale now! Three-day passes and single-day tickets are available along with a limited number of Early Bird options here.

Like Levitation before it, Austin Psych Fest has announced a throwback-heavy – in the best way! – lineup for 2025. Alongside homegrown post-rock quartet Explosions in the Sky, Nineties alt-rock luminaries Kim Gordon, Dinosaur Jr., and Yo La Tengo play the Far Out Lounge April 25-27.

EITS wraps Day One of the not-just-psychedelic music festival following sets by fellow genre innovators Godspeed You! Black Emperor, plus Black Mountain, Kadavar, the Octopus Project, Blackwater Holylight, Federale, and Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter.

Gordon, now a Grammy nominee for her post-Sonic Youth trap turn, plays Saturday alongside Darkside, STRFKR, Geordie Greep, Sasami, Corridor, Wombo, Dummy, Alex Maas (of Psych Fest founders the Black Angels), Color Green, and Windows.

Dinosaur Jr. and Yo La Tengo close the festival Sunday evening. Unlike the noise trio’s hits-only set at South by Southwest 2024, J, Lou, and Murph are slated to perform Dino’s 1994 album Without a Sound in its entirety at Psych Fest. Viral Nineties band Boa, plus Los Mirlos, La Luz, Dean Wareham (playing Galaxie 500 songs), the Mystery Lights, King Hannah, Holy Wave, and Garrett T. Capps & NASA Country round out the bill, with more artists to be announced.

3-day and single day passes to Austin Psych Fest 2025 are on sale now.

Get ready to experience a mind-blowing lineup at the Austin Psych Fest 2025: Far Out fest, happening from April 25-27. Kim Gordon, the iconic bassist and vocalist of Sonic Youth, will bring her unique blend of art rock and punk to the stage, promising a dynamic and energetic performance.

Dinosaur Jr., the influential alternative rock band known for their loud and melodic sound, will surely deliver a set filled with anthemic tunes and guitar riffs. And last but not least, Yo La Tengo, the indie rock veterans known for their eclectic and experimental sound, will showcase their genre-defying music and captivating stage presence.

  • Why are we so excited for the second annual Minnesota Yacht Club music fest?

“Too Sweet” hitmaker Hozier, slated for opening night, remains as hot as out-of-the-fryer mini-donuts, and the demand to see him hasn’t diminished. Green Day, the festival closer, is one of the all-time great live bands, and its hyperkinetic frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is invariably extra-amped (if that’s even possible for him) when he takes the stage in the Twin Cities, hometown for his wife, Adrienne, whom he met here. Even though Billie and the boys rocked Minneapolis stadiums last year and in 2021, we’re always glad to see Green Day.

Fall Out Boy, not so much. Especially since these Day 2 headliners will have played the metro area in four of the past five years, including the last three consecutively.

The MYC 2025 undercards suggest that not all these artists are “warm-up” acts. Opening day on July 18 is particularly compelling with soulful rockers Alabama Shakes, quirky but cult-loved Father John Misty and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sheryl Crow, an inspiring and underappreciated concertizer — all she wants to do is have some fun.

The middle day — easily the least engrossing lineup — boasts a couple of winners on its undercard in Gen X alt-rockers Weezer, who are as comfortable as an old sweater, and Minnesota’s own Cory Wong, who always puts on a spirited, entertaining show of instrumental jazz-funk.

The final day, the Green Day day, features a delectable mix of top-notch melodic rock bands Semisonic and Beach Bunny, along with party bands 311 and Sublime as well as Garbage, the magnificent modern rockers from Madison, Wis., whose singer Shirley Manson always remembers that they played their first concert ever in Minneapolis at the 7th Street Entry in 1995.

Overall, we’re pretty thrilled about this lineup. OK, there are a few slots where we’re we might go sit by the banks of the Mississippi River for a break and an overpriced beer. But it looks like the Twin Cities have finally landed a bona fide destination summer music festival just like Austin City Limits in Texas and Outside Lands in San Francisco. We’re not massive like Coachella or Lollapalooza. That’s fine. We don’t have the space for it.

Are you ready to set sail on a musical adventure like no other? The second annual Minnesota Yacht Club music fest is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited!

Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success, with top-notch performances from both local and national artists, breathtaking views of the lake, and an atmosphere that can only be described as electric. This year promises to be even bigger and better, with an incredible lineup of musicians, food vendors, and activities for all ages.

Whether you’re a music lover, a foodie, or just looking for a fun day out on the water, the Minnesota Yacht Club music fest has something for everyone. So grab your tickets, pack your sunscreen, and get ready to dance the day away with us on the lake. We can’t wait to see you there! #MYCmusicfest #sailintosummer

  • Everything you need to know about the annual Pirate Fest

TAMPA, Fla. — The 2025 Gasparilla Pirate Fest is almost here, and thousands of pirates are ready to invade Hillsborough Bay.

Grab your beads, costumes and eye patches, and get ready for the annual Gasparilla parades.

Be sure to bundle up because we’ll be dealing with some extra chilly weather this year. Tampa City leaders and its law enforcement partners also pledged additional resources to keep the community safe during festivities.

The parades will affect parking and traffic, so here’s everything you need to know about the fest.

The 2025 Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa Gasparilla Pirate Fest kicks off on Saturday, January 25.

    Gasparilla Invasion: 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

This year, the Jose Gasparilla II will set sail from the south of Hillsborough Bay and continue north to the Seddon Channel (the area between Davis Island & Harbour Island) before docking at the Tampa Convention Center.

The annual reenactment of Tampa’s historic invasion of the Gasparilla Flotilla

The Gasparilla Flotilla, led by Jose Gasparilla and the swashbuckling YMKG pirates, will dock at the Tampa Convention Center, where they’ve commanded Mayor Jane Castor to surrender the key to the city to the Captain of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla.

With the key to the city in hand, the Krewe celebrates their victory in a Parade of Pirates down Bayshore Boulevard.

Parking: Parking will be available at the Tampa Convention Center and throughout downtown. City-run garages will have a special event parking rate paid upon entry. Officials recommend attendees arrive early as parking will fill up quickly for the event.

    Tickets: Free to the public

Weather: ABC Action News meteorologist Greg Dee said the coldest morning of the week still looks to be Saturday as Tampa falls into the mid-30s and upper 20s (another freeze) return north of the Bay. We’ll be a little milder Saturday with highs in the low 60s and plenty of sun. If you’re going to the Gasparilla Pirate Invasion, be sure to layer up. In the sun you may feel ok but in the shade and the late afternoon and evening, it will feel cold.

    Gasparilla Parade: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

To celebrate their capture of Tampa, the Captain and his Krewe share their wealth—glittering beads, treasures and doubloons—with a lively, enthusiastic crowd all along the 4.5-mile parade route.

Tampa’s original buccaneers make their way down historic Bayshore Boulevard and into downtown Tampa amidst colorful costumes and festive music. The Gasparilla Parade of the Pirates will boast around 140 units of floats, Krewes, marching bands and the infamous YMKG pirates.

The parade begins at Bay to Bay and Bayshore Boulevard. It continues along Bayshore Boulevard to Brorein Street, turns east on Brorein Street, then north on Ashley Drive. The parade ends at Cass Street and Ashley Drive.

Tickets: Free to the public. Reserved seating is available here.

    Gasparilla Pirate Fest

The 2025 Pirate Fest will feature stages along the Riverwalk in downtown Tampa, with live entertainment pre and post-parade in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park (Ashley and Twiggs), and MacDill Park (Ashley and Whiting).

  • Railbird Fest Throws Fans for a Loop with 2025 Headliners

The annual Railbird Festival in Lexington, Kentucky just announced its 2025 lineup for May 31st to June 1st, and it includes an excellent crop of top-of-the-line independent country and roots artists.

This includes Cody Jinks, Sierra Ferrell, Wyatt Flores, Blackberry Smoke, The Castellows, Ole 60, and many more. Railbird organizers have also clearly been doing their homework, and booked some overlooked, and under-the-radar bands worthy of the opportunity, namely Saving Country Music Songwriter of the Year Jesse Welles, as well as one of Austin’s greatest bands, Rattlesnake Milk.

These artists and bands are what you would expect from the C3 Presents Railbird Fest, which since the beginning has focused more on independent country artists as opposed to mainstream names. But it’s the headliners Railbird has announced that have return patrons chirping, and wondering how they fit with the festival’s undercard.

Lainey Wilson isn’t too far out of left field. After all, for a mainstream country artist, she still has a more traditional sound, and has been featured at independent country festivals before. Believe it or not, you could even see a universe where Shaboozey could be a unique change of pace for the fest, especially if he features some of his more rootsy material (which he’s also apparently wanting to lean more into).

But Bailey Zimmerman, and especially Jelly Roll feel almost like poison pills for a lineup that primarily focuses on non country radio-supported artists. Zimmerman is like the TEMU version of Morgan Wallen, and we’re about a year past people being tired of the overexposure and constant ram rodding of Jelly Roll down our throats.

As one commenter on Facebook said, “That’s one way to make sure the fest isn’t oversold! Went from a nice alt country/ rock fest to mainstream country….ruined the whole thing you had going!”

But as another points out, “Look past the headlines yall, Red Clay Strays, Ole 60, Noeline Hoffman, Treaty Oak Revival just to name a few up and comers on this list that are so good and genuine to their music. Give them a listen if unfamiliar, that’s why I’m going.”

In some ways, you feel sorry for Railbird and other independent-oriented country music festivals. Even as independent artists and bands continue to surge, the amount of top headliners for a major festival is somewhat thin. With Zach Bryan saying he’s not going to tour much in 2025, Billy Strings and Tyler Childers focusing more on their own headliner shows, and Cody Jinks and the Turnpike Troubadours coming back down to reality a little bit, there’s not many names to choose from.

But a strong case could be made you’d fare better putting performers like Sierra Ferrell and The Red Clay Strays at the very top of your poster as opposed to overpaying for Jelly Roll. Along with Charley Crockett, 2025 feels like the year these performers graduate to legitimate headliners, and The Red Clay Strays already have.

Railbird has some incredible names playing the festival in 2025, offering both a ton of top-line independent country entertainment, along with plenty of things to discover. It’s just a shame Jelly Roll, Shaboozey, and Bailey Zimmerman will distract from how good this lineup actually is. Most independent country fans would rather listen to a straight up hip-hop artists than pop country’s poorer versions of one.

The presale is now up at railbirdfest.com .

Railbird Fest, the popular music festival held annually in Lexington, Kentucky, has just announced its headliners for the 2025 edition – and fans are in for a surprise. The festival, known for its diverse lineup of indie, rock, and Americana acts, has thrown fans for a loop with its eclectic mix of headliners.

Leading the pack is legendary rock band The Rolling Stones, who will be making their first-ever appearance at Railbird Fest. Fans can expect a high-energy set filled with classic hits and electrifying performances from Mick Jagger and company.

Joining The Rolling Stones on the lineup is pop sensation Billie Eilish, who will bring her unique blend of dark, moody pop to the festival stage. Known for her captivating live performances and haunting vocals, Eilish is sure to be a highlight of the weekend.

Rounding out the headliners is country superstar Miranda Lambert, who will bring her powerhouse vocals and heartfelt lyrics to the Railbird Fest stage. Fans can expect a mix of hit songs and fan favorites from the Grammy-winning artist.
