Fact or Fiction: Domantas Sabonis is The Biggest Snub of the 2025 NBA All-Star Game
Each week during the 2024-25 NBA season, we will take a deeper dive into some of the league’s biggest storylines in an attempt to determine whether trends are based more in fact or fiction moving forward.
Fact or Fiction: Domantas Sabonis is The Biggest Snub
What is a snub? A snub is a guy that can’t get no love from … the voting panel for the NBA All-Star Game.
Maybe a handful of you understood that joke. But it is true. I did not envy the voters this season. The league is as rich with talent as it has ever been. Someone was bound to get snubbed. Multiple players.
The NBA on Thursday announced its All-Star reserves (selected by the coaches), completing the 24-player field for this year’s All-Star Game in San Francisco, so long as (fingers crossed) nobody gets injured between now and Feb. 16. Here are the rosters (* = starter):
And sure enough: There are some snubs. But remember:
Again, we know the rule:
If you’re telling me who got snubbed, who shouldn’t be an All-Star?
— Vincent Goodwill (@VinceGoodwill) January 30, 2025
When we are determining The Biggest Snub, we have to kick someone out. Sorry, James Harden.
Hear me out. (But a disclaimer first: Games played matter, so apologies to Paolo Banchero, Luka Dončić, Joel Embiid, Ja Morant and Franz Wagner, among others who did not play enough to earn consideration.)
The Biggest Snub has to come from the West. There are too many good players in the conference. Herro would not have sniffed a selection on a .500 team from the West. He should not have even made it over Trae Young in the Eastern Conference, but if we are looking for the most talented non-All-Star this season — The Biggest Snub — he is in the West. He did not fail to make an All-Star team over Tyler Herro.
He failed to make one over Harden, who is having a great season for a Los Angeles Clippers team that has exceeded expectations. He also may not be the most valuable member of his own team. Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac are, at the very least, as impactful, as is a healthy Kawhi Leonard. The Clippers are in sixth place because of a defense that is ranked second in the NBA despite the presence of Harden; not because of a bottom-10 offense.
(Stefan Milic/Yahoo Sports Illustration) Harden’s raw numbers — 21.7 points, 8.4 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game — are impressive, though he is shooting 40% from the field and below league average from 3 (35.2%). His 203 turnovers lead the NBA.
I do not like making a case against anyone, but these are the rules, and it is a good one against Harden.
Now for the reveal: This year’s The Biggest Snub is not LaMelo Ball or Devin Booker or Tyrese Maxey. It is Domantas Sabonis, spawn of Arvydas, King of The Nail.
It was between him and Kyrie Irving.
-
Sabonis: 20.9 PTS (61/48/77), 14.5 REB, 6.6 AST (3.1 TO), 0.6 STL, 0.4 BLK; 68.0 TS%, 24.1 PER
-
Irving: 24.2 PTS (48/42/90), 4.9 AST (2.3 TO), 4.6 REB, 1.2 STL, 0.3 BLK; 60.0 TS%, 19.8 PER
-
Harden: 21.7 PTS (40/35/89), 8.4 AST (4.6 TO), 5.8 REB, 1.5 STL, 0.6 BLK; 57.3 TS%, 19.1 PER
Would you look at that? Sabonis is the most efficient scorer of the three, leads the NBA in rebounding and averages more assists per game than Irving (with a higher assist-to-turnover ratio than Harden).
Here is who has averaged a 21-14-6 in NBA history: Wilt Chamberlain. That is it.
What else do you really have to say? Sabonis has also played more than both of them this season. And when he is on the court, the Kings are 14.9 points per 100 meaningful possessions better, according to Cleaning the Glass — the league’s fourth-best on/off rating among players who have logged at least 1,000 minutes, trailing only Jokić, Wembanyama and Chris Paul (who has played more than three-quarters of his minutes with Wemby).
Sacramento has the equivalent of a top-five offense when Sabonis is on the floor and a bottom-two offense when he is on the bench, and the team’s offensive rating has settled into seventh in the league.
By contrast the Mavericks are 3.8 points per 100 possessions better when Irving is on the floor, and the Clippers are 4.8 points per 100 possessions better when Harden is on the court. Add those on/off ratings together, and you are still searching for as much impact as Sabonis.
I am not here to say Sabonis’ game is the most compelling for an All-Star audience, but who wants to see another Harden step-back 3 when Sabonis is converting his triples at the league’s second-best clip? Plus, he will pass and rebound better than anyone. He won’t steal the show, but he belongs in it. What are we doing here? The answer is obvious.
Determination: Fact. Domantas Sabonis is The Biggest Snub of the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.
Fact or Fiction: Domantas Sabonis is The Biggest Snub of the 2025 NBA All-Star GameWith the rosters for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game recently announced, many fans and analysts were quick to point out one glaring omission – Domantas Sabonis. The Indiana Pacers forward has been putting up impressive numbers all season long, averaging a double-double and showcasing his versatility on both ends of the court.
Sabonis has been a key player for the Pacers, leading the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists. His ability to score in the paint, crash the boards, and facilitate for his teammates has made him a standout player in the league. Despite his stellar performance, Sabonis was left off the All-Star roster, leading many to believe that he was the biggest snub of the game.
So, is it a fact or fiction that Domantas Sabonis is the biggest snub of the 2025 NBA All-Star Game? While it’s certainly a subjective topic, the numbers don’t lie – Sabonis has been playing at an All-Star level this season. His absence from the roster is a tough pill to swallow for Pacers fans and Sabonis supporters alike, but ultimately, the decision lies in the hands of the coaches and fans who vote for the All-Star reserves.
Whether you believe Sabonis was snubbed or not, one thing is for certain – he will continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the NBA and will use this perceived snub as motivation to elevate his game even further.

It Takes Two Dev’s Split Fiction Gets Trailer With Dune And Alice In Wonderland-Inspired Levels
A new trailer for the next EA Originals game, Split Fiction, has gone live and shows off more of the Hazelight-developed game in action. Narrated by game director Josef Fares, the gameplay trailer shows off two levels–one set in a sci-fi world, the other in a fantasy land–and how players will use unique co-op gameplay elements in each one to progress. For the sci-fi level, there are anti-gravity sections and bike chases to look forward to, while the fantasy level features shape-shifting gameplay mechanics.
The other big feature shown off in the Split Fiction video are Side Stories, optional one-off adventures that are hidden throughout the game’s levels. Discovering one and exploring it will transport players to even more worlds influenced by sci-fi and fantasy fiction, with some of the levels including outer space, an Alice in Wonderland-themed world, and a stage that looks heavily influenced by the recent Dune movies.
Developed by the studio behind the critically acclaimed It Takes Two, Split Fiction was first revealed at The Game Awards last year. A mandatory two-player game, Split Fiction lets you play as two would-be writers: Mio and Zoe. After the pair sign up to participate in a new publishing program, they find themselves transported to virtual recreations of their stories by a shady tech company and have to work together to escape before they lose their memories.
Split Fiction is set to launch for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on March 6, 2025, and preorders are now live for it. The great thing about the game is that it comes with a cross-play Friend Pass, allowing one user to invite a friend to join them even if they haven’t purchased Split Fiction.
Thanks to its cross-play design, it also doesn’t matter which of the three applicable platforms your pal is on either, as you’ll both be able to team up for a jaunt across futuristic and magical lands. 2025 has quite a few exciting co-op games on the horizon, and if you’re interested in seeing what else is coming out in this genre throughout the year, you can check out GameSpot’s list of the most-anticipated co-op games of the year.
Exciting news for fans of the popular co-op game It Takes Two! The developers at Hazelight Studios have just released a new trailer for their upcoming split fiction DLC, featuring levels inspired by Dune and Alice in Wonderland. In this new DLC, players will be able to take on the roles of characters from these iconic stories as they navigate through beautifully crafted levels that pay homage to the worlds of Dune and Alice in Wonderland. The trailer showcases stunning visuals, creative gameplay mechanics, and a glimpse into the captivating story that awaits players in this exciting new expansion. Split Fiction gameplay looks like a co-op dream for Xbox
- Hazelight Studios has dropped a fresh gameplay trailer for Split Fiction
- It’s a co-op action-adventure game heading to Xbox Series X|S
- Release date: March 6, 2025
Split Fiction is a world-hopping co-op action-adventure game chronicling the adventures of Mio and Zoe, two writers who get trapped in their own stories after being hooked up to a machine designed to steal their ideas. In order to escape, the pair must work together to escape the sci-fi and fantasy worlds they’ve created by using an array of abilities and gameplay mechanics.I was interested in Split Fiction as soon as it was announced at The Game Awards 2024, as the action-packed co-op gameplay looked like an awesome opportunity for some additional game time with my son. This latest gameplay trailer only draws me in further, as Hazelight gives us a look at two levels: a sci-fi world created by Mio and a fantasy world made by Zoe.
There are tons of platforming sections throughout both levels along with boss fights. In the sci-world, the players take on a robot while riding motorcycles, while in the fantasy world, the players can transform into animals.
We also get a look at some other parts of the game, which show the players floating around in space, riding sandfish across a desert, waterskiing, and more. It just looks like a thrill ride, and the perfect excuse to sit back on a Sunday afternoon and explore two very different gameplay styles with the little dude.
I’ll definitely be jumping in for some Split Fiction fun in March, but how about you? Will you be making some time between upcoming Game Pass games like Avowed and Atomfall for a co-op adventure in Hazelight’s latest? Drop a comment below and let us know!

Split Fiction – Guide to Preorder Bonuses
Split Fiction is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on March 6. A co-op sci-fi game from Hazelight Studios, the makers of It Takes Two, Split Fiction is available to preorder now (see it at Amazon) for $49.99. And just like Hazelight’s previous games, anyone who buys it gets a free Friend’s Pass that lets a friend play the whole game with you in co-op for free.
Split Fiction – Where to Buy It
PS5
Xbox Series X|S
PC
Unlike so many game releases these days, Split Fiction is only available in a standard edition. There are no pricier versions offering digital trinkets to tempt you. However, there is one retailer-exclusive preorder bonus to sway your preorder decision, about which more below.
Split Fiction Preorder Bonus
While there are no universal preorder bonuses for Split Fiction, there is a retailer-exclusive one:
How Does Split Fiction’s Friend’s Pass Work?
The main unique thing about Split Fiction is that you must play it in co-op mode. There’s no single-player option. So you can play it in couch co-op split-screen mode on a single display, or you can play it via online co-op, with just a single copy of the game. This even works cross-platform, meaning you can play it with a friend even if they’re using a different console or PC platform than you are.
To play with a friend online, just have your friend download “Split Fiction – Friend’s Pass” from the digital marketplace of their choice after the game comes out, on March 6. This version is free, and it lets your buddy play the game with you at no additional cost after you send them an invite. Hazelight did a similar thing for for its previous games It Takes Two and A Way Out. The only caveat is that your non-paying friend can’t play it without pairing up with someone who has purchased the game.
What Is Split Fiction?
Split Fiction is a co-op-only two-player action adventure game about a pair of writers – one who writes sci-fi and one who writes fantasy – who get sucked into their fictional worlds. The two players have to work together to fight enemies and solve puzzles in levels that spring from science fiction and fantasy respectively. So in one level you might find yourselves riding Tron-style motorcycles and navigating gravity plates, while in another you’ll shape-shift into fantasy characters in an enchanted forest.
Levels also contain portals to “side stories,” which are basically minigames you can play, like riding on a Dune-like “sand fish” as it swims through the desert, or water skiing behind a drone flying across the sea.

A recently released streaming series presents a fictionalized interpretation of events in mid-19th century Utah. While historical fiction can be illuminating, this drama is dangerously misleading.
Brigham Young, a revered prophet and courageous pioneer, is, by any historical standard, egregiously mischaracterized as a villainous, violent fanatic. Other individuals and groups are also depicted in ways that reinforce stereotypes that are both inaccurate and harmful.
As to the Mountain Meadows Massacre, which the series inaccurately portrays as reflective of a whole faith group, the Church has long acknowledged and condemned this horrific tragedy. It has also taken significant steps to uncover and share the full truth of what happened and promote healing.
The problem with such deceptive, graphic and sensationalized storytelling is that it not only obscures reality and hinders genuine understanding but can foster animosity, hate and even violence. This is particularly troubling today when peacemakers are needed more than ever. At a time when so many responsible leaders are condemning the division and hostility that dominate so much of our public discourse, we echo the plea of President Russell M. Nelson: “The Savior’s message is clear: His true disciples build, lift, encourage, persuade, and inspire—no matter how difficult the situation. True disciples of Jesus Christ are peacemakers. … Peacemaking is a choice. … I urge you to choose to be a peacemaker, now and always.”
This sentiment, shared across many traditions, is resonating around the world today. It is the prophetic message of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—a message of peace that all the modern prophets have shared, including Brigham Young.
Historical fiction is a popular genre that allows readers to explore different time periods and learn about the past in an engaging way. However, there are times when historical fiction can do harm by perpetuating harmful stereotypes or inaccuracies about certain groups of people. One way that historical fiction can do harm is by perpetuating stereotypes about marginalized communities. For example, if a book portrays a certain group of people in a one-dimensional or negative light, it can reinforce harmful stereotypes and contribute to discrimination and prejudice in real life.
Another way that historical fiction can do harm is by spreading inaccuracies about historical events or figures. When authors take creative liberties with the facts, it can distort the truth and mislead readers about what actually happened in the past. This can perpetuate misinformation and prevent readers from gaining a true understanding of history.
It’s important for authors of historical fiction to do thorough research and approach their subject matter with sensitivity and respect. By being mindful of the potential harm that their work can cause, authors can create engaging and educational stories that accurately reflect the past without perpetuating harmful stereotypes or inaccuracies.

#Split #Fiction #Playstation, the crew motorfest ps5 upgradeFact or Fiction: This is Donovan Mitchell’s moment
Each week during the 2024-25 NBA season, we will take a deeper dive into some of the league’s biggest storylines in an attempt to determine whether trends are based more in fact or fiction moving forward.
[Last time on Fact or Fiction: There should be a trade market for Zion Williamson]
Fact or Fiction: This is Donovan Mitchell’s moment
If given the time you could probably name the nine-man list of 10-time NBA All-Stars who have never won a championship: James Harden, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Karl Malone and Elgin Baylor. Even the handful of nine-time All-Stars who haven’t won a title are familiar: Paul George, Russell Westbrook, Dominique Wilkins, George Gervin and Lenny Wilkens.
Members of this fraternity are guaranteed of the Hall of Fame, but it is a club to which no one seeks membership, for it means they failed to reach the pinnacle of their profession. It is what separates Malone from Dirk Nowitzki, Paul from Isiah Thomas, Anthony from Paul Pierce. Bragging rights are forever.
We can debate who in the NBA right now will become a 10-time All-Star, though this seems like a pretty good standard: Of the 42 retired players who earned six All-Star bids by age 28, 25 of them finished their careers with double-digit appearances. The vast majority of the others had careers cut short by injuries.
The newest entrants into the list of 28-year-old, six-time All-Stars will be Jayson Tatum and Donovan Mitchell, a pair of surefire selections whose teams are vying for Eastern Conference supremacy. Tatum won his ring last season. He is certified. And Mitchell has his best chance of winning a title this season.
How good of a shot do Mitchell’s Cavaliers have to win it all? Of the eight previous teams to start a season 34-5, as Cleveland has, six won the title. The two other teams had previously banked a title.

Cleveland’s net rating is among the best ever and second this season only to the Oklahoma City Thunder — whom the Cavs face Thursday night — another team on a historic pace. No team that has started so hot as the Cavaliers — with a net rating as high as theirs — has failed to reach the NBA Finals. It cannot be understated how good they have been.
Do we think the Cavaliers will improve on this in subsequent seasons? Or is this their moment?
While we view Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his Thunder as a superstar and a team on the rise, we do not think of Cleveland in the same vein. Mitchell is an established star. He is who he is — great, though not someone who we consider to be the traditional anchor of a historic team. Previous players to lead their teams to 34-5 starts included all-timers Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving and Steph Curry.
Of course, we said the same of Tatum last season, and he delivered.
One other player led his team to a 34-5 start: Chauncey Billups. Mitchell already has as many All-Star selections as Billups logged in his entire career, but their situations are not so different. Granted, defense was Detroit’s calling card, and offense is Cleveland’s trademark, but they are both smaller-market teams with ensemble casts, led by a guard who has peaked as a fringe MVP candidate. Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen vs. Billups, Richard Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace is a war.
Point is: It can be done. Donovan Mitchell absolutely can win the championship.
And how many times are we going to say that in his career?
Mitchell is not a serious MVP candidate, at least not in the eyes of sportsbooks and voters. He is sacrificing for the greater good of the team, and his production — his lowest-scoring output since his rookie season — reflects that. Gone are the days when the best player on the best team is automatically an MVP candidate of consequence. Tatum, for example, finished sixth in the MVP voting last season.
Of the 21 teams in history that have won 65 games in a season, 15 won the title, and yet only the Chicago Bulls of the 1990s and the Golden State Warriors of the 2010s won 65 games on multiple occasions. That these Cavaliers are not. Tatum’s Celtics — Cleveland’s biggest threat in the East — are learning this now.
Windows close quickly in the NBA, especially for players outside the pantheon — players like Mitchell. Mobley’s next contract pushes Cleveland closer to the luxury tax next season, and who knows how chemistry carries from one season to the next? We were not even sure Mitchell wanted to stay in Cleveland as recently as eight months ago. Things change. And fast. Mitchell’s 2021-22 Utah Jazz won at a 56-win pace, lost in the first round of the playoffs and were dissolved by the end of the next season.
You have to seize these opportunities when they come. And this is Mitchell’s moment. I think we can all agree he is more Nique than MJ, hitting a second-round playoff ceiling through his first seven seasons.
And how often do you know this is your best chance as it is happening?
When Iverson was a 25-year-old MVP for the 2000-01 Philadelphia 76ers, did he think, This will be the only time I sniff an NBA Finals? Did Barkley, as a 29-year-old MVP in his first season on the Phoenix Suns, think they would never return to the title series? How could Harden have known as a 28-year-old MVP that his 2017-18 Houston Rockets would represent his last best shot a ring? In the moment you think you are invincible. In the moment you never see the end coming. But it comes for us all, faster in the NBA.
But with Mitchell we can see it as clear as day. In all likelihood, these Cavaliers will never be so good as they are now, and Mitchell may never be as good — or as sacrificial — as he is now. The intersection is Mitchell’s moment. His moment to seize his championship — his moment to secure bragging rights over every one of the ringless Hall of Famers who will one day attend Mitchell’s induction into Springfield.
