Wolf Man Actor Julia Garner Reveals Her Favourite Bollywood Film, Hint: It Stars Irrfan Khan – Exclusive

Wolf Man, directed by filmmaker Leigh Whannell is about love and loss and bone-chilling horror. The highly anticipated film is set to hit theaters on January 17 in India. Featuring an impressive cast, including Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, Matilda Firth, and Sam Jaeger, the movie tells a harrowing tale of survival after a savage animal attack. In an exclusive chat with Zoom, Garner talked about her role in the film and revealed what her favourite Bollywood movie is.

Julia Garner reveals her favourite Bollywood film

Julia, who is an three-time Emmy Award winner, said that she loves Bollywood movies. Talking about her favourite Hindi film, the actress revealed, “Bollywood films are so beautiful. The first one that comes to my mind, and it’s not a typical Bollywood movie… I re-watched it. It was The Lunchbox. It’s not what you think of a Bollywood movie but it’s such a sweet film.” The Lunchbox starred late Irrfan Khan and Nimrat Kaur. It was directed by Ritesh Batra.

Julia Garner on choosing Wolf Man

Talking about why she chose to work in Wolf Man, Garner stated, “I saw a bit of it…the testing pics from before. It’s already a supernatural story. I really loved the humility of it all. It felt very grounded. It was a very nice counterbalance with the supernatural element. And I do also know what people are saying about if they hate it or not but in the field that we are in, you have to be okay with that. Opinions are not always a bad thing.”

Julia Garner also claimed that she has never picked an easy character. “There is always some crazy challenge. I don’t love it when things are super easy,” said Julia. She added, “I always want to learn something after I do a project. If you don’t learn something after doing a project for three months, then what are you getting out of it? All of them (my characters) are challenging for different things.”

In a recent interview, Wolf Man actor Julia Garner revealed her favourite Bollywood film, and it’s a classic! The talented actress shared that her top pick is none other than “The Lunchbox”, which stars the legendary Irrfan Khan. Garner gushed about the film’s heartfelt story and Khan’s incredible performance, calling it a must-watch for any movie lover. Have you seen “The Lunchbox”? • Christian Bale and Matt Damon Put the Pedal to the Metal in This 92% Rotten Tomatoes Film Zooming Onto a Free Streamer Next Month

Over the last few years, those who love a fast car or a solid biographical racing drama have been in luck. From titles like Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story to Ferrari and the upcoming Joseph Kosinski-helmed F1 movie, it’s a good time to be a racing fan. Soon, audiences will be able to wave the flag and guide in another recent classic that pitted two different vehicle manufacturers against one another. Beginning February 1, Tubi invites viewers to pull up to the platform and stream James Mangold’s 2019 sports biography pic, Ford v Ferrari. Starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale, there’s never been a better time to feel the wind in your hair as the feature lands on the free streaming service.

Based on a true story, Ford v Ferrari follows Carroll Shelby’s (Damon) race against time to build a race car that will compete and win against the highly-revered Italian racing team, Scuderia Ferrari, at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Shelby has been hired by the Ford company to piece together a machine that has the power to take on its Italian rival, but the vehicle can only carry the American company so far as they’ll also need a talented driver behind the wheel. For this, the Ford team turns to Ken Miles (Bale), an English driver who has enough promise to take home the gold. As the clock ticks down towards the race, the pressure spikes for the entire team as they attempt to take on the best of the best at the big event in France.

    ‘Ford v Ferrari’s Pit Crew

Joining the two leading men in this story of hope, sportsmanship, and determination is a lineup that includes Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place), Caitríona Balfe (Outlander), Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama), Ray McKinnon (Knox Goes Away), Tracy Letts (Lady Bird) and Remo Girone (Live by Night). As one might expect, a lot of money needs to be poured into a racing-based movie in order for it to look on point and not cheap. For that, 20th Century Fox shelled out well over $97 million for the film’s production, with its box office earnings easily covering it at $225.5 million. Not just a financial success, but the title was also a favorite with the critics, landing the Certified Fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and nabbing four nominations at the Oscars, crossing the finish line for Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing.

If you enjoyed Mangold’s latest box office favorite, A Complete Unknown, head over to Tubi on February 1 to stream the director’s dip into the sports arena when Ford v. Ferrari crosses the finish line.

  • Broadway biopic and film with Jessica Chastain among Berlinale highlights | Berlin film festival

Richard Linklater’s long-awaited Broadway biopic Blue Moon starring Ethan Hawke and Margaret Qualley, a Mexican love story with Jessica Chastain as a socialite who falls for a émigré ballet dancer, and a British family drama set in Spain featuring Emma Mackey and Fiona Shaw will premiere in competition at next month’s Berlin film festival.

The 75th edition of the Berlinale, Europe’s first major cinema showcase of the year, will open on 13 February with the world premiere of The Light by Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) about the intertwined fates of a Syrian refugee and a middle-class German family.

The British actor Tilda Swinton will pick up an honorary Golden Bear at the opening ceremony for lifetime achievement.

The event’s new director, Tricia Tuttle, an American film journalist and curator who previously ran the BFI London film festival, unveiled the 19 contenders vying for the prestigious Golden and Silver Bear top prizes, to be chosen by a jury led by the US director Todd Haynes.

At a news conference in the German capital, Tuttle said that beyond Berlin’s trademark political fare, there would be “love stories and comedies and offerings of hope and magic and wonder” in the programme of the 11-day event.

In Linklater’s Blue Moon, Hawke plays legendary lyricist Lorenz Hart who is struggling with alcoholism as his former collaborator Richard Rodgers fetes the opening of his smash musical Oklahoma!, in a cast also including Andrew Scott and Bobby Cannavale.

Chastain turns in what organisers called a “blistering” performance as a lovestruck socialite navigating the immigration divide in Michel Franco’s Dreams, their second collaboration after Memory.

Mackey (Sex Education) joins Vicky Krieps and Shaw in an adaptation of Deborah Levy’s acclaimed novel Hot Milk about a mother and daughter grappling with their fragile bond in a holiday beach house.

Previous Golden Bear winner Radu Jude will present Kontinental ‘25 in a Transylvania-set drama exploring the Romanian housing crisis and the rise in nationalism.

The French Oscar winner Marion Cotillard leads Lucile Hadžihalilović’s film-within-a-film The Ice Tower featuring cinema shock master Gaspar Noé playing a director.

Vivian Qu’s Girls on Wire promises to pick up the tradition of Hong Kong action blockbusters with a twist in the tale of a single mother who kills a drug dealer.

Gabriel Mascaro’s The Blue Trail, a thriller set in the near future about elderly Brazilians forced to move to resettlement camps, tells the story of a 77-year-old woman who breaks out and embarks on an adventure in the Amazon.

Ukrainian documentary Timestamp by Kateryna Gornostai offers a searing look at how schools are still functioning in wartime.

Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You features a “ferocious” performance by Rose Byrne as a mother whose child is afflicted with a mysterious illness.

Berlinale fixture Hong Sang-soo of South Korea will unveil What Does That Nature Say To You about a poet getting to know his girlfriend’s family.

The German veteran actor Hanna Schygulla stars in Yunan by the Ukrainian-Syrian director Ameer Fakher Eldin, playing a woman offering solace to a refugee on a remote island.

In the Berlinale Special section outside the main competition, the American director Julia Loktev will show the first part of her five-hour documentary My Undesirable Friends about Russian independent journalists forced into exile after the Ukraine invasion.

Organisers had previously announced that Mickey 17, a sci-fi feature starring Robert Pattinson from Parasite director Bong Joon-ho, would screen out of competition.

And Tom Shoval will premiere A Letter to David, his documentary about the Israeli actor David Cunio, a hostage of Hamas still being held in Gaza.

Last year, the Berlinale ran into controversy after the Palestinian and Israeli directors of documentary No Other Land denounced Israel’s “apartheid” from the awards stage, triggering angry accusations of antisemitism from German politicians.

Asked about a Guardian interview last month in which Tuttle warned that a polarised debate in Germany about Israel’s military action in Gaza was leading some international artists to shun the festival, she said she had been working on “outreach” to reassure film-makers that “the festival is a space for open dialogue”.

The Berlinale, billed as the world’s largest film festival that is open to the public, ranks with Cannes and Venice among the top global events promoting new cinema.

US industry magazine Variety called the programme under Tuttle’s leadership “less niche and more crossover than recent Berlinale lineups” while keeping “the edginess and iconoclastic flare that has symbolised the festival since its inception”.

Last year, the Senegalese-French director Mati Diop’s documentary Dahomey on the first major return of looted treasures from Europe to Africa won the Golden Bear.

This article was amended on 22 January 2025. A previous version said that Hong Sang-soo’s film What Does That Nature Say To You co-starred his longtime collaborator and off-screen partner Kim Min-hee. The festival has corrected its announcement to say that she does not appear in the film.

The Berlin International Film Festival, also known as Berlinale, is set to showcase a wide array of films this year, with one of the highly anticipated highlights being the Broadway biopic starring Jessica Chastain.

Chastain, known for her compelling performances in films such as “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Help,” will take on the role of a Broadway icon in this biopic that delves into the highs and lows of the theater world.

In addition to the Broadway biopic, another standout film at Berlinale will be a gripping drama starring Chastain as a fearless journalist uncovering a political scandal. This film promises to be a powerful and timely exploration of the intersection of politics and media.

With Jessica Chastain’s talent and versatility on full display, audiences can expect to be captivated by her performances in these two films at Berlinale. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting highlights from the prestigious film festival.

Park City • Marlee Matlin shouted, “Oh, wow,” on the red carpet of the Eccles Theatre on Thursday, when she caught sight of Shoshannah Stern, a deaf actor like herself.

Matlin ran over, greeted Stern with a big hug in front of photographers, and compared notes on the shiny black skirts each was wearing.

The movie Stern directed, the documentary “Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore,” kicked off the Eccles screening schedule Thursday at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in Park City.

Matlin, who won her Oscar in 1986 for her first movie, “Children of a Lesser God,” has some recent experience in Park City — having served as a juror in 2023, the first year the festival returned after a two-year break because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Marlee Matlin with director/producer, Shoshannah Stern, on the red carpet for the first screening of the documentary “Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore” at the Eccles Theatre for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, on Thursday, Jan 23, 2025.

Being among jurors who could hear was “a great experience,” Matlin said. “We learned from each other as a result of that experience, how to work together and use interpreters, and how communication is vital — and the importance of closed-captioning.”

After playing many characters — Stern’s documentary, made for PBS’ “American Masters” series, features a montage of many TV and movie roles Matlin played after “Children of a Lesser God” — Matlin said it’s a bit odd to watch a movie where she’s just herself.

“It’s the truth, it’s authentic,” Matlin said through her longtime interpreter, Jack Jason. “There’s absolutely no filter. It’s all truth. And I loved it.”

Stern said, through her interpreter, said that as a deaf actor, she was “lucky enough that [Matlin] has reached her hand out — not just to me, but so many other deaf people. … She has always been generous, and she made sure I was the one who had the honor to be able to tell her story, and I knew that I just had to repay her with the grace that she showed me.”

Thursday’s screenings marked the first of the 11-day festival in Park City and Salt Lake City. Some 87 feature films, plus episodic programming and 57 short films, will screen throughout.

Eugene Hernandez, the festival’s director, told reporters at an informal gathering Wednesday in Park City’s Filmmakers Lodge, that “this year’s films will delight, they will entertain, they will provoke, they will inspire and they will engage. We know each of these films in our festival will spark a conversation.”

Kim Yutani, the festival’s programming director, singled out six triple-threat filmmakers, who have directed, written and are starring in their films: James Sweeney in “Twinless”; Katarina Zhu in “Bunnylovr”; Eva Victor in “Sorry, Baby”; Pasqual Gutierrez in “Serious People”; Grace Glowicki in “Dead Lover”; and Cherien Dabis in “All That’s Left of You.”

“These people are clearly show-offs,” Yutani said. “They are incredibly talented people, and we want you to know their names now and to keep an eye on them.”

[Sundance 2025: List of celebrities expected at the film festival]

One pressing topic Sundance leaders do not want to talk about during these 11 days in Park City: Where the festival will call home starting in 2027.

Last year, Sundance Institute started a process to accept bids to find a new home for the festival when Park City’s contract expires after 2026. Three finalists remain in contention after months of vetting: Boulder, Colorado; Cincinnati; and a Utah bid, centering on Salt Lake City with a few events in Park City. A final decision is expected to be announced sometime this spring.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) The Egyptian Theatre, on Main Street in Park CIty, on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023.

“I know there’s at least one specific burning question that you probably want to ask me,” Hernandez told reporters Wednesday. “I’m going to tell you the answer to that question. The answer is, ‘No, not yet.’”

Amanda Kelso, the institute’s interim CEO, said, “We have a longstanding legacy with Utah, with Park City, and we’re so grateful to be here.”

The festival’s leadership team talked Wednesday about the fires in Los Angeles that have destroyed thousands of homes and businesses, and how they have affected the people organizing and attending Sundance.

“We have filmmakers in our own festival, alumni, members of the industry, community and our Sundance staff who have lost homes or were displaced in the past weeks,” Hernandez said.

He added that before festival screenings, venues will display a QR code that will encourage attendees to donate to aid organizations helping those affected by the fires.

“I love Los Angeles, and my heart weighs really heavy with all the folks who have been impacted,” Kelso said. “Amidst all that, what’s amazing is how we can all come together. Now, it’s almost a moment of healing for us. It’s an opportunity for us to remind ourselves of why it is important for us to be together.”

The first day of the festival kicked off with a bang as film enthusiasts gathered to watch the first screenings of highly anticipated movies. From gripping dramas to heartwarming comedies, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Audiences were captivated by the stunning visuals and powerful performances on display in the opening films, setting the tone for an exciting lineup ahead. Directors and actors took to the stage for Q&A sessions, providing insight into the creative process behind their projects.

In addition to the film screenings, festival-goers were treated to a variety of events and activities throughout the day. From panel discussions with industry experts to live music performances, there was no shortage of entertainment to be found.

As the sun set on Day 1, anticipation was high for the days to come. With a diverse selection of films still to be shown and special guests scheduled to make appearances, the festival promises to be an unforgettable experience for all in attendance. Stay tuned for more updates and highlights from the festival’s exciting lineup.

  • Santa Barbara Film Fest to Host US Premiere of Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon’ 2

Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2, the second installment of Kevin Costner’s ambitious western film series, will have its U.S. premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The film, which had its world premiere last summer at the Venice Film Festival, comes on the heels of Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1, which, in turn, had its world premiere last spring at the Cannes Film Festival. (On the Croisette, Costner discussed Horizon extensively during a live recording of THR’s Awards Chatter podcast.)

On Feb. 7, SBIFF will screen the first film at 2 p.m., right before the second at 6 p.m., at the Arlington Theatre. At the conclusion of the second, Costner — a Santa Barbara local who co-wrote, directed, produced and stars in the film — will participate in a Q&A moderated by SBIFF executive director Roger Durling.

The fest will also screen Beyond the Horizon, a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of the film, on Feb. 13 at 8:20 p.m. It will be followed by a Q&A with Costner and Beyond the Horizon director Mark Gillard, moderated by SBIFF programming director Claudia Puig.

Reportedly, the combined budget for the two Horizon films was $100 million, $38 million of which was fronted by Costner himself. The first grossed a disappointing $38 million worldwide, which threw the release plans for the second installment — and Costner’s hopes for making third and fourth installments — into question.

Exciting news for film buffs in Santa Barbara! The Santa Barbara International Film Festival is set to host the US premiere of Kevin Costner’s new film, ‘Horizon’.

Costner, who also stars in the film, will be in attendance at the festival to introduce the movie and participate in a Q&A session with fans. ‘Horizon’ is a gripping drama that follows a group of oil rig workers as they struggle to survive a catastrophic explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.

Don’t miss your chance to see this highly anticipated film before it hits theaters nationwide. Get your tickets now for the Santa Barbara Film Fest and be among the first to experience ‘Horizon’ on the big screen.

  • Back in Action: Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx star in ‘highly processed’ action film

“The last time we saw Cameron Diaz on screen, it was way back in 2014,” said Benjamin Lee in The Guardian.

“That year saw her lost in the juvenile comedies ‘The Other Woman’ and ‘Sex Tape’, before being horrendously miscast in a dud remake of ‘Annie’; and, not long after, she chose to retire, perhaps feeling as glum over the quality of her films as those of us stuck watching them.” Now, however, she has returned in the Netflix action-comedy “Back in Action”, in which she and Jamie Foxx play a couple who have given up their exciting lives as spies to raise a family in the suburbs – only to be “sucked back in” when their cover is blown.

Get ready for some high-octane excitement because Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx are teaming up for a new action film titled “Back in Action.” This dynamic duo is sure to bring the heat as they take on a dangerous mission that will push them to their limits.

The film promises to be a thrill ride from start to finish, with Diaz and Foxx showcasing their incredible chemistry and impressive action skills. From intense fight scenes to heart-pounding car chases, “Back in Action” is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.

But what sets this film apart from other action movies is its unique twist – the entire story takes place in a highly processed, hyper-realistic world where nothing is as it seems. With mind-bending visuals and unexpected plot twists, “Back in Action” will keep you guessing until the very end.

So buckle up and get ready for the ride of a lifetime with Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx in “Back in Action.” This is one action film you definitely don’t want to miss.
