  • Jason Day Wears Sweatsuit During Final Round Of Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Jason Day may not hold the title of the best golfer on the planet anymore – it’s been nearly a decade since he was ranked No. 1 in the world – but he has managed to re-brand into the undisputed most-comfortable player on the PGA Tour in recent years.

Day signed an apparel deal with Malbon Golf at the start of 2024, and to say the brand doesn’t exactly fit into the ‘traditional golf’ aesthetic would be an understatement. Malbon is new-age, a mix between lifestyle and sport, and may be best described as ‘relaxed.’

The Aussie and his outfits turned heads throughout his first season out on Tour with the brand and made literal headlines at the 2024 Masters.

Day wore a not-so-subtle vest with ‘Malbon Golf Championship’ written in large letters during the second round of the major championship and later revealed some person of authority at Augusta National asked him to remove it, which he respectfully obliged.

Day and Malbon haven’t slowed down in the ‘fits department since last year’s Masters. In fact, they’ve taken things to an entirely different comfort level, and it was on full display during Sunday’s final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in the form of a full-on sweatsuit.

The relaxed crewneck sweatshirt has become a staple out on Tour among a lot of players, but the sweatpants that even come with a traditional drawstring were certainly eye-catching.

Only the ‘old heads’ will take real issue with Day’s outfit, but the discussion about whether or not it’s ‘appropriate’ is an interesting one given that many, if not most, private golf clubs and even some public golf clubs would tell you and me to change if we came rolling up in sweatpants.

The difference here is you and I aren’t major champions, which gives you a little wiggle room in the apparel department.

Jason Day shocked golf fans at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am by opting to wear a sweatsuit during the final round of the tournament. The usually well-dressed golfer made a bold fashion statement as he braved the chilly weather in his comfortable and casual attire.

While most golfers prefer to stick to traditional golf attire, Day’s choice to wear a sweatsuit on the course raised eyebrows and sparked a debate among fans and commentators. Some applauded his decision to prioritize comfort and practicality, while others criticized him for not adhering to the usual dress code.

Despite the unconventional outfit choice, Day continued to showcase his impressive skills on the course and put up a strong performance in the final round of the tournament. Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no denying that Jason Day’s sweatsuit made a memorable impression at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

  • ATP Montpellier Final PRediction – Auger-Aliassime vs Kovacevic

In what is a fitting final between the two most impressive players at the ATP Montpellier event this week, Felix Auger-Aliassime will take on Aleksandar Kovacevic for the Open Occitanie crown. It should be an entertaining match and, as always, we here at LWOT will be offering our prediction for the final, as well as the WTA action in Singapore and Linz, but who will come out on top?

    ATP Montpellier Final Prediction

    Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Aleksandar Kovacevic

    Head-to-head: Auger-Aliassime 1-0 Kovacevic

This is a match that Auger-Aliassime should win. The Canadian, a force to be reckoned with indoors, has played some excellent tennis this week – beating Arthur Cazaux, Bu Yunchaokete and Jesper de Jong to reach the final, all without dropping a set. He is also significantly more experienced than his opponent, despite being two years younger. Indeed, he will be bidding for his seventh title whilst Kovacevic will be playing in his first final.

That said, Kovacevic will doubtless be full of confidence. The American started his week in the qualifying, beating Robin Bertrand and Pablo Carreno Busta to reach the main draw where he has gone from strength-to-strength. He beat sixth seed David Goffin in the first round, Italy’s Mattia Bellucci in the second, fourth seed Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals and top seed Andrey Rublev in the last four. Goffin is the only man to take a set off him so far this week.

That said, Auger-Aliassime probably represents a step up in the quality of opposition, particularly in these conditions. The second seed’s heavy forehand might also trouble Kovacevic’s single-hander if he can get it firing down-the-line. Kovacevic certainly struggled in their only previous meeting, which Auger-Aliassime won at a canter last year in Cincinnati. This should be a closer contest and may go the distance, but Auger-Aliassime should once again have the edge.

    Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 3

The ATP Montpellier Final is set to be an exciting showdown between two talented young players, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Miomir Kovacevic. Both players have had impressive runs throughout the tournament, and now they will face off in the final for the chance to claim the title.

Auger-Aliassime, the 21-year-old Canadian, has been in great form recently and has shown his potential as a future top player on the ATP Tour. He has a powerful game with a strong serve and forehand, and he has the ability to dictate play from the baseline. Auger-Aliassime will be looking to continue his winning streak and secure his first ATP title of the season.

On the other hand, Kovacevic, the 20-year-old Serbian, has also been in impressive form and has shown that he has the skills to compete at the highest level. He has a solid all-around game with a strong backhand and great court coverage. Kovacevic will be looking to cause an upset and claim his first ATP title of his career.

It’s difficult to predict who will come out on top in this final matchup, as both players have been playing at a high level. However, I believe that Auger-Aliassime’s experience and firepower will give him the edge in this match. I predict that Auger-Aliassime will win the ATP Montpellier Final in a closely contested battle.

Make sure to tune in to watch the final and see which young star will emerge victorious in Montpellier. It’s sure to be a thrilling match that showcases the future of men’s tennis.

Auger-Aliassime reaches 17th final with renewed indoor prowess in Montpellier

Kovacevic stuns Rublev, advances to maiden ATP Tour final

    By Jerome Coombe

Felix Auger-Aliassime is reigniting his indoor form this week at the Open Occitanie in Montpellier, where he is into his second ATP Tour final of 2025.

The second seed delivered a clinical display when under pressure to oust Jesper de Jong 6-4, 7-6(4) on Saturday and reach his first indoor championship match since he won Basel in 2023. Auger-Aliassime recovered from a break deficit in the second set, where he also saved two set points, to move into a 17th career final (6-10) after two hours, two minutes.

“The second set was very tricky, up and down,” said Auger-Aliassime. “I started serving less good and kept him in the match, but in the end I was glad I was able to come back and win in two sets. Not every match is going to be a straight road forward, so to pull it through in straight sets is a great thing.”

After suffering a back injury at the end of last season, which forced him out of the Rolex Paris Masters, Auger-Aliassime has begun the year with a renewed vigour. The 24-year-old won his sixth ATP Tour title at the Adelaide International in January and holds a 9-2 record in 2025 heading into the Montpellier final on Sunday. He is seeking his first multi-title season since he lifted four trophies, all indoors, in 2022.

In Saturday’s semi-final clash with De Jong, Auger-Aliassime held his nerve when it mattered most. The Canadian No. 1 lost his way in an error-strewn second set, where he was broken to love and forced to save two set points, but produced an emphatic response in the tie-break to seal a straight-sets victory.

“[I was] very focused until the very end, until the last ball. I have lost matches like this where you miss the forehand and all of a sudden you’re in a third set,” said Auger-Aliassime, who squandered a two-sets-to-love lead against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round at the Australian Open last month. “So I tried to stay calm and very focused until the end.”

    It All Adds Up

In Sunday’s final, Auger-Aliassime will face qualifier Aleksandar Kovacevic, who stunned top seed and World No. 10 Andrey Rublev 7-5, 6-4 for the biggest win of his career. In a match dominated by baseline exchanges, Kovacevic produced consistent depth from both wings to irritate his opponent en route to reaching his maiden tour-level final.

“It seems like every day we have the same conversation about me playing the best match I ever played,” Kovacevic said in his on-court interview. “My level has definitely been good this week. Andrey is an incredible player, I have been watching him for years. Just stepping on the court with someone like this is a privilege.

“When you’re an underdog, playing a Top 10 opponent like that, you’re a lot more free. You have to go for it against these guys. I’m honoured to be on court with them, but if you don’t show up they’re going to take it, just like they always do.”

With his 95-minute win over Rublev, Kovacevic climbs to No. 75 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, three spots off his career high. The 26-year-old produced a gutsy display throughout his maiden Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting with Rublev, but was particularly fired up in the second set. Kovacevic saved a break point with a big second serve in the ninth game before reeling off four of the last five points on return in the following game to seal victory.

Felix Auger-Aliassime continues to impress on the ATP Tour, reaching his 17th final with a renewed indoor prowess in Montpellier. The young Canadian has been showcasing his talent on the indoor courts, and his recent success in Montpellier proves that he is a force to be reckoned with.

Auger-Aliassime’s run to the final in Montpellier highlights his ability to excel in different playing conditions. His aggressive playing style and powerful serves have been key factors in his success on indoor courts, where he has been able to dictate play and outsmart his opponents.

With this latest final appearance, Auger-Aliassime is proving that he is a rising star in the world of tennis. His determination and skill on the court have earned him the respect of fans and fellow players alike, and he is sure to continue making waves in the ATP Tour.

Stay tuned to see if Felix Auger-Aliassime can clinch the title in Montpellier and further solidify his status as one of the top players on the tour.

  • WTA Linz Final Prediction: Alexandrova vs Yastremska

It’s the championship match at WTA Linz, and last year’s runner-up, Ekaterina Alexandrova, will be looking to go one step further. Still, she has to get past Dayana Yastremska, who has been impressive all week. This one promises to be feisty with several undertones involved, and we at at LWOT offer our prediction for who will emerge victorious.

    WTA Linz Final Prediction

    Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Dayana Yastremska

    Head-to-Head: Alexandrova 2 vs 3 Yastremska

The WTA Linz final features two players who have showcased exceptional form throughout the tournament, setting the stage for a compelling contest.

Yastremska and Alexandrova have faced each other five times, with the Ukrainian holding a slight edge in their rivalry. Their most recent encounter was at the 2022 Libema Open, where Alexandrova emerged victorious in a three-set battle.

In the semifinals at WTA Linz, Alexandrova combined some aggressive baseline play and consistent serving to deliver a dominant performance against Karolina Muchova, securing a 6-0, 6-4 victory. Yastremska, on the other hand, was tactical and repelled everything Clara Tauson threw at her to advance to the final in a straight-sets win.

Given the current form of both players, the final is anticipated to be a closely contested match, with both players having a legitimate shot at clinching the title. Yastremska’s head-to-head advantage and her ability to elevate her game in crucial moments cannot be overlooked, and in my opinion, she has been the best player in Linz.

    Prediction: Yastremska in 3

The WTA Linz final is set to be a thrilling matchup between Ekaterina Alexandrova and Dayana Yastremska. Both players have shown great form throughout the tournament, and it promises to be a close and exciting contest. Alexandrova, the Russian powerhouse, has been in impressive form, showcasing her powerful groundstrokes and aggressive style of play. She has been dominant in her matches, taking down some tough opponents on her way to the final. On the other hand, Yastremska, the young Ukrainian sensation, has also been in fine form, displaying her speed and versatility on the court. She has shown great mental toughness in tight situations and has the ability to dictate play with her aggressive game. It's a tough call to predict the winner of this final, as both players are evenly matched and have the potential to come out on top. However, I believe that Alexandrova's experience and powerful game will give her the edge in this matchup. I predict that she will come out on top in a close and hard-fought battle to claim the WTA Linz title.

  • Yastremska makes first final since 2022; Alexandrova tops Muchova in Linz

No. 5 seed Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine moved into her first WTA singles final in nearly three years with a 6-1, 6-4 semifinal victory over No. 8 seed Clara Tauson of Denmark at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz on Saturday.

Yastremska will face No. 4 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in Sunday’s final at the WTA 500 indoor hard-court event. Alexandrova toppled No. 1 seed Karolina Muchova 6-0, 6-4 in just 1 hour and 13 minutes on Saturday, extending her dominant lead in their head-to-head to 4-1.

Linz: Scores | Draws | Order of play

Looking ahead to Sunday, Yastremska holds a narrow 3-2 head-to-head lead over Alexandrova. They have not squared off since 2022, where Alexandrova defeated Yastremska en route to the ‘s-Hertogenbosch title.

Dayana’s day: In the semifinals, Yastremska needed 1 hour and 48 minutes to notch her second Top 50 win in a row, having already beaten Maria Sakkari in Friday’s quarterfinals. Yastremska now holds a 2-0 record against Tauson.

“The process, and just trying to play ball by ball, that’s what brings me to the final,” Yastremska said afterwards. “Just the fighting spirit and trying to play with fun, with good vibes and good emotions.”

Yastremska will contest her first final since finishing runner-up to Zhang Shuai at another indoor hard-court event, Lyon, in March of 2022. Yastremska is aiming for her first title since triumphing on the clay of Strasbourg in 2019.

In the clash between three-time WTA titlists, Yastremska eased to the one-set lead by breaking Tauson twice in the opener. In the second set, a double fault by Tauson gave Yastremska the critical break for a 4-3 lead.

But the power-hitting clash was far from over as Yastremska had to get through one last test, firing pinpoint groundstrokes as she fended off five break points in a gritty hold for 5-3.

Tauson saved one match point on her own serve, but Yastremska successfully closed out the win one game later, wrapping up the match a perfect 9-for-9 on break points saved. Yastremska slammed 39 winners to Tauson’s 15 in the encounter.

Yastremska slid from No. 33 down to No. 72 in the PIF Rankings this week after losing many of her Australian Open semifinal points from last year, but the Ukrainian is potentially on the verge of bouncing right back up into the Top 50 after her big week in Linz.

Despite Saturday’s result, Tauson is still having a strong season. The Dane is 10-2 on the year, having started 2025 by winning the Auckland title. Tauson is the only player to defeat Madison Keys so far this year, having ousted the newest Grand Slam champion during her Auckland run.

Another Alexandrova final: Alexandrova is into her second straight Linz final, and third overall. The former Top 15 player finished as Linz runner-up in 2018 (lost to Camila Giorgi) and last year (lost to Jelena Ostapenko).

By continuing her head-to-head mastery over 19th-ranked Muchova, Alexandrova has again put herself one win away from her first Linz title. It would be her first title overall since she won her second straight ‘s-Hertogenbosch title in the summer of 2023.

Alexandrova breezed through Saturday’s first set, where she had eight winners to Muchova’s two. The Czech Muchova made things much closer in the second set, but she was never able to break the Alexandrova serve despite garnering four break points.

In the second set, Alexandrova took charge for good by breaking for 4-3 with a forehand crosscourt winner. Alexandrova wrapped up the match with a love hold, earning her first Top 20 win of this season and 31st Top 20 win overall.

“I really love playing indoors, and I think [this] court kind of suits my style of game,” said the now-three-time Linz finalist Alexandrova. “I enjoy my time playing here, so I’m always trying to stay as long as possible, and it’s working.”

Alexandrova eases past top seed Muchova in Linz semifinals

Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska has made her first final since 2022, after a strong performance in the Upper Austria Ladies Linz tournament. Yastremska defeated Czech player Karolina Pliskova in the semi-finals to advance to the championship match.

In another exciting match, Russian player Ekaterina Alexandrova claimed victory over Czech player Karolina Muchova in the semi-finals. Alexandrova’s powerful play and aggressive style helped her secure a spot in the final.

The final showdown between Yastremska and Alexandrova promises to be a thrilling and competitive match. Tennis fans can expect to see some impressive shot-making and intense rallies as these two talented players battle it out for the title in Linz.

  • Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup final: India thrash South Africa to defend title

India have won the Under-19 T20 World Cup after storming to a nine-wicket victory over South Africa in the final.

Having bowled South Africa out for 82, India needed just 11.2 overs to knock off the runs in Kuala Lumpur.

Gongadi Trisha was the standout performer for India, taking 3-15 with the ball before smashing an unbeaten 44 from 33 balls in the chase.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first but were soon in trouble as they slipped to 20-3 in the powerplay and never recovered.

Runs were hard to come by as India’s spinners took hold and, with wickets falling at regular intervals, the Proteas’ progress was slow before they were eventually bowled out from the last ball of the innings.

There were no such problems for India as Trisha quickly put them in control with a flurry of early boundaries.

The 19-year-old already looks a star of the future and ends as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 309 in seven matches, some 133 runs ahead of England’s Davina Perrin in second.

Sanika Chalke was left to hit the winning boundary two balls into the 12th over to start the celebrations for India, who also won the inaugural tournament in 2023.

In a thrilling final match of the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, India showcased their dominance by thrashing South Africa to defend their title. The Indian team put on a stellar performance, both with the bat and ball, to secure a convincing victory.

Batting first, India posted a formidable total, thanks to some brilliant batting from their top order. The openers got off to a flying start and set the tone for the innings, with the middle order also chipping in with valuable contributions. South Africa’s bowlers struggled to contain the Indian batters, as they smashed boundaries all around the park.

In reply, South Africa never really got going, as the Indian bowlers kept the pressure on with some tight bowling and regular breakthroughs. The spinners were particularly impressive, picking up crucial wickets and restricting the scoring rate. In the end, South Africa fell well short of the target, handing India a comprehensive victory.

The win not only sees India retain their title but also highlights the incredible talent and potential of the young players in the team. Congratulations to the Indian team on their impressive performance and well-deserved victory in the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup final.

  • WTA Singapore Final Prediction – Mertens vs Li

The final match at the WTA Singapore Tennis Open is set with the American Ann Li – who hasn’t dropped a set all week – set to take veteran Elise Mertens, who is aiming to win her ninth tour-level title. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our prediction for the final, and the ATP action in Montpellier, but who will come out on top?

    WTA Singapore Final Prediction

    Elise Mertens vs Ann Li

    Head-to-head: first meeting

This final presents an intriguing contrast in styles and experience. Li is enjoying a breakthrough run, showcasing her aggressive baseline game and rising confidence, while the veteran Mertens brings consistency, tactical awareness, and an all-court game that has served her well on the tour, having been a regular presence in the WTA’s top 30 for the majority of her career. Indeed, the Belgian’s ability to neutralize big hitters with her counterpunching style and intelligent shot selection has made her a formidable opponent

Li will look to use her her powerful groundstrokes, as well as fast improving court coverage, to build on the successes she has enjoyed already this week – which has seen beat Daria Saville, Maria Timofeeva, Kimberly Birrell and top seed Anna Kalinskaya (albeit via retirement). Li will likely look to dictate her forehand and flat hitting, but it may not be entirely straightforward for her as Mertens is excellent at absorbing pace and extending rallies, which could test Li’s patience.

Ultimately, given that finals so often are decided by composure under pressure, Mertens’ greater experience might just give her a vital advantage when it matters most. We should still expect a tightly contested match and if Li can maintain her aggression without overhitting, she has a real shot at her biggest win to date. But ultimately, Mertens experience, resilience and problem-solving skills should prove to the difference at the WTA Singapore Tennis Open.
