  • Blues finally green light big-name exit as transfer conditions are set in stone

AC Milan are confident they can bring Chelsea misfit Joao Felix to the Italian giants before the transfer window shuts, TEAMtalk can reveal.

The Portugal international swapped Atletico Madrid for Chelsea last summer for a fee in the region of £45.5 million (€53m, $59m) but he has struggled for game time thus far.

Felix, who had a loan spell with the Blues in the second half of the 2022/23 season, has made 20 appearances in all competitions this term but he has just three Premier League starts to his name.

Head coach Enzo Maresca admitted it is “difficult” to hand regular minutes to the 25-year-old, particularly when Cole Palmer has been the club’s standout attacker.

TEAMtalk previously revealed that Milan wanted to complete a deal for the former Barcelona loanee, with head coach Sergio Conceicao a ‘big admirer’ of his talents.

Now, our sources state the Serie A team believe they can get this move over the line, with Chelsea giving a loan move the green light. We understand that a buy option is not out of the question and Felix himself is pushing for a San Siro transfer.

Furthermore, Chelsea are evaluating all loan options, so it is not set in stone that Milan seal the deal with this one.

DON’T MISS: Fabrizio Romano gives two Chelsea exits Here we Go confirmation as FOUR departures hurtle closer

Maresca admits to ‘difficult’ Felix situation

With Nicolas Jackson leading Chelsea’s attack and Palmer often behind him, that has made it difficult for the versatile Felix and Christopher Nkunku to get much of a look in.

Both have been linked with a Stamford Bridge exit, something Maresca has not ruled out.

“The only thing I’ve said since the start of this season is that it’s difficult to play him with so many attacking players. In my idea it means that if Joao plays, it means Cole [Palmer] doesn’t play. Or, if Joao [Felix] plays he has to play with Cole together, but it depends on the game,” he said last month.

“For me it’s quite easy, we have three players but they are more or less similar; Cole, Joao and Christopher Nkunku. Joao played some games, Christopher also played and they both started against Ipswich and Southampton they played, Leicester they played.

“Some games they can both play together, but not every game because every game is a bit different.”

Chelsea transfer roundup: Garnacho latest, Man City ace targeted

All eyes are on whether or not Alejandro Garnacho will leave Manchester United before the transfer window shuts at 11pm on Monday.

The Chelsea-linked winger is said to be interested in a Blues move but there are a number of reasons why that may not happen.

Chelsea are reportedly plotting a last-ditch move for Manchester City star Nico O’Reilly, after giving up on United’s Kobbie Mainoo.

The 19-year-old would be a cheaper option, as would Saint-Etienne midfielder Mathis Amougou.

Finally, Tottenham are trying to gazump Chelsea in the race to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi – who is into the last 18 months of his contract.

Who has been Chelsea’s biggest flop of the Todd Boehly era?

After weeks of speculation and negotiations, Blues have finally given the green light for a big-name exit as transfer conditions have been set in stone. The player in question has been the subject of intense interest from several top clubs, but it seems that a deal is finally in the works.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting news of this transfer, and now it seems that their wishes will soon be granted. The player’s departure is sure to have a significant impact on the team, but with the transfer conditions now firmly established, it looks like the move is all but certain.

Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting transfer saga unfolds.

  • Beyoncé is finally going to win that album of the year award at the 2025 Grammys, right?

    CNN
     —

Bey-lieve it or not: The 2025 album of the year category might be the most high stakes Grammys race in years.

    But let’s back up.

The category has a little something for everyone this year – from the pink-drenched newcomer Chappell Roan’s velvety vocals in her debut album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” to André 3000’s flute-centric “New Blue Sun.”

“It’s a phenomenal slate of nominees. It’s jam packed. I think it can hold its own with any year in history in terms of the albums that are going up against each other,” Rolling Stone senior writer, critic and author Rob Sheffield told CNN. “It’s an all-time slate of classic albums all happening at the same time.”

But Beyoncé’s genre-bending smash “Cowboy Carter” in particular is the one album out of the versatile crop of nominees that seems to hold the highest stakes – not for the artist herself, but for the Grammys.

The Recording Academy has consistently overlooked Beyoncé in this specific category, with the singer losing four times for her albums “Renaissance” (2023), “Lemonade” (2017), “Beyoncé” (2015) and “I Am… Sasha Fierce (2010).

For the most part, Beyoncé has remained unfazed. She even referred to her unsuccessful bids in the category on the “Cowboy Carter” song “Sweet Honey Buckin,” singing in part that she takes the losses “on the chin.”

While Beyoncé has seemingly accepted her losses with a gracious smile, each time showing the utmost respect for the winner, her husband Jay-Z – and her millions of supporters known as the Beyhive – have been more vocal, calling out the Recording Academy, the group behind the Grammys, for overlooking an artist that is widely considered to be one of the most influential of our time.

“She knows she’s an artist who knows that the art itself is the legacy,” Sheffield said. “I think she cares about making these genius records one after another… But there’s a sense that for this particular Grammy category to matter, Beyoncé has to win it.”

Beyoncé performing 'Beyoncé Bowl' during halftime at the Texans-Ravens game in Houston in Christmas Day.

The album of the year category is regarded as the top prize of the Grammys, akin to the esteemed best picture category at the Oscars. It’s part of what’s become known as “the big four” categories, which includes best new artist, record of the year and song of the year.

Despite the losses for album of the year, Beyoncé has won more Grammys than any other artist in history, earning 32 statues from a whopping 99 nominations.

Instances where supporters feel Beyoncé was egregiously overlooked have fueled the fervor for her to win at this year’s ceremony. Sheffield points to Beyoncé’s loss to Beck’s “Morning Phase” in 2015 as a moment that “seemed like the biggest upset in Grammy history at that point.” Ever since then, he said, the Grammy’s album of the year race has always been about whether Beyoncé is winning the category.

“Everything else has become a sideshow,” Sheffield added.

Adele’s win of the prestigious award for her album “21” at the 2017 Grammys further fanned the flames of agitation. Adele made certain to acknowledge the significance of “Lemonade” during her acceptance speech.

“I can’t possibly accept this award,” she tearfully said, addressing Beyoncé directly. “I love you and I always have and I always will.”

In many ways, “Lemonade” got the last laugh. The album sits atop many “best of” lists, including claiming the No. 1 spot on Rolling Stone’s “250 greatest albums of the 21st century so far” list, published earlier this month. Lauded for its cultural resonance and visual storytelling, it’s widely considered the Beyoncé album for the ages.

But according to music, pop culture and politics writer and journalist Taylor Crumpton, “Cowboy Carter” has, too, carved out its own unique place in the cultural zeitgeist, making it just as deserving of an album of the year win as “Lemonade.”

“I think they both changed culture,” Crumpton told CNN. “I think ‘Lemonade’ opened up an opportunity for us to talk about Black feminism in pop culture, and I think ‘Cowboy Carter’ opened up an opportunity for us to talk about the hidden history – and the often erased history – of Black Americans in Western history in the United States.”

With so many Grammy wins and a legacy as one of the most influential artists of our time, Beyoncé might not be sweating an album of the year win quite as much as perhaps the Grammys as an organization may be.

Beyoncé supporters, including her husband rapper Jay-Z, have long taken issue with the consistency in which Beyoncé has been overlooked in the album of the year category.

Jay-Z at the 2023 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

While accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award during the 2024 ceremony, Jay-Z called out the Recording Academy after Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” album lost album of the year to Harry Styles’ “Harry’s House” in 2023.

The Recording Academy has also faced criticism for failing to equally recognize women and artists of color, along with alienating rap and hip-hop performers in key categories, over the years. The group in 2020 announced changes they’re implementing to address that.

While six of the eight nominees in this year’s album of the year category are women, female artists are still underrepresented at the Grammy Awards, according to a recently released report by AKAS (Addy Kassova Audience Strategy Ltd), with research and analysis funded by the Gates Foundation. In the last eight years, only 1 in 5 nominations and wins have gone to women, the report read.

This year, André 3000 and indie-jazz artist Jacob Collier are the sole male nominees for album of the year. Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short ‘n Sweet,” Charli XCX’s dancefloor-centric “Brat” and Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft” are also nominated.

“If Beyoncé does not win, I believe the response will be varied upon racial demographics, gender demographics, about who was deserving and worthy of this award, and what does that signify for every artist who will enter the music industry,” Crumpton said.

Through her music, Beyoncé “has intertwined herself with the history of Black Americans in the United States,” so another loss in this category, Crumpton added, will be felt “by all Black artists of the diaspora who look towards the United States and institutions like the Grammys, like Billboard, to validate them and open up other doors.”

The Grammys will be handed out Sunday from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. It will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

As a language model AI developed by OpenAI, I cannot predict the future or guarantee specific outcomes. However, it is certainly possible that Beyoncé could win the Album of the Year award at the 2025 Grammys, given her incredible talent, influence, and track record of success in the music industry. Beyoncé has been nominated for Album of the Year multiple times in the past, so it would not be surprising if she finally takes home the award in 2025. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and see what the future holds for Queen Bey! #Beyoncé #2025Grammys #AlbumOfTheYear

  • I Finally Watched A Real Pain, And I Think Jesse Eisenberg’s Performance Is Being Overlooked

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission.

Jesse Eisenberg in A Real Pain.

I really wanted to see A Real Pain, a film one of my colleagues said was somehow the saddest and funniest movie of 2024. I had screening invites, and the movie showed in my town for several weeks, so I had no excuse. My delay changed upon discovering I could watch the dramedy with my Hulu subscription. And while I thoroughly enjoyed (both laughed and cried) watching two estranged cousins reconnect on a journey through Poland to see where their recently deceased grandmother grew up, there’s one thing that’s bothered me since.

I don’t think Jesse Eisenberg is getting enough love for his work in the film. Yeah, he received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay, but I feel like his performance is being largely overshadowed by Kieran Culkin’s highly decorated role. I guess what I’m saying is that I really need to talk this out…

Will Sharpe looking down, Kieran Culkin with tears in his eyes and Jesse Eisenberg standing with his hand on his shoulder.

Don’t Get Me Wrong, Kieran Culkin’s Performance Is A Tour De Force

Before I get started, I think Kieran Culkin winning a Golden Globe and being nominated for an Oscar (as well as numerous other awards) for his portrayal of the outspoken and free-spirited Benji Kaplan in A Real Pain is warranted. The performance, which some would argue is the film’s lead, is an absolute tour de force that reminds me so much of several of my own family members and friends.

Electric, dynamic, charismatic, and pained are some of the words that came to mind when I was watching the movie on Hulu a few weeks ago, and I am still blown away by just how captivating of a performance the Succession alum was able to pull off. I constantly found myself being amazed by Culkin’s great comedic timing in one scene and then incredible rawness and depth in the next. It was honestly one of the realest things I’ve seen in a movie in a very long time.

It’s Just That Jesse Eisenberg’s Performance Isn’t Getting Talked About Nearly Enough

Like The Big Lebowski, Tombstone, and Jurassic Park before it, A Real Pain is one of those movies where the audience ends up loving a side character more than the main, for better or worse. And I honestly think that this is leading to Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal of the more reserved and emotionally restrained David Kaplan not being talked about nearly enough.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say Eisenberg was snubbed in the Best Actor category at the Academy Awards, but his highly personal performance is simply overshadowed by the chaotic and scene-stealing showing by Culkin throughout the movie. His writing and directing are receiving praise, but it’s a bummer that Eisenberg’s actual acting in the movie is somewhat being treated as an afterthought.

If Anything, I Thought David Kaplan Was The Most Relatable Character In A Real Pain

There were times throughout when I really connected with Benji and his lack of social graces and inability to simply let things go, but for the most part, I thought David was the most relatable character in the entire movie. David always felt like he was on the verge of a full-blown panic attack, except for a few brief moments when he would finally allow himself to relax and enjoy what life was throwing at him, and I often feel like I’m bouncing back and forth on the same path.

Eisenberg’s ability to play a character who is willing to sacrifice so much of himself to please those around him and keep the peace (to the detriment of his own mental health) while also contemplating his own past, present, and future, is something to behold. It’s taxing, that’s for sure, but the balance and realness found in his performance is something I haven’t been able to stop thinking about in the days and weeks since the credits rolled.

And The Scene Where He Breaks Down At Dinner Is Some Of Eisenberg’s Best Stuff

I could go on and on about the richness and magic of the biggest scenes here, but the moment that sticks out the most to me is the group dinner. Shortly before the one-hour mark, Benji goes on another of his outspoken outbursts and becomes confrontational with their tour group before storming off. With his cousin out of the picture, David opens up about their complicated relationship, his own mental health, and not wanting to be a burden on anyone.

The camera is primarily focused on Eisenberg throughout this extensive scene, and it’s just pure magic. Up there with his character’s rant at the opening of The Social Network, the talented actor goes on a spiel, saying things like “I know that my pain is unexceptional so I don’t feel the need to like burden everybody with it,” when talking about not sharing too much with others,” and “I love him, I hate him, I want to kill him, and I want to be him” when discussing his cousin.

It’s magnificent, but also maddening because we won’t get to hear that speech in a clip played during the Best Actor nominees at the Oscars in March.

But At Least He’s Getting Some Recognition For His A Real Pain Screenplay

Jesse Eisenberg made his directorial debut with 2022’s When You Finish Saving The World, but it was A Real Pain that put him in the category of great actors who became directors. Though the multi-talented star didn’t receive a Best Actor nod at the Oscars, and is left out in the cold in the Best Director category (along with the snubbed Edward Berger), he’s at least getting some recognition for his screenwriting capabilities.

A Real Pain is up for one of the biggest races of the night, but it’s also one of the upcoming award show’s most competitive categories. Anora (Sean Baker), The Brutalist (Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold), September 5 (Moritz Binder and Tim Fehlbaum; co-written with Alex David), and The Substance (Coralie Fargeat) also have a rightful claim when it comes to Best Original Screenplay, but I would love for Eisenberg’s personal and relatable story to win it.

All in all, I think Jesse Eisenberg is being seriously overlooked and overshadowed when it comes to his role in A Real Pain. Hopefully, the Academy Awards will put some respect on his name by awarding him the Best Original Screenplay Oscar when the ceremony airs in early March.

I Finally Watched A Real Pain, And I Think Jesse Eisenberg’s Performance Is Being Overlooked

I recently had the chance to watch the film A Real Pain, starring Jesse Eisenberg, and I have to say, I was blown away by his performance. Eisenberg has always been known for his incredible acting chops, but in this film, he truly shines.

A Real Pain follows the story of a man who is struggling with chronic pain and the toll it takes on his life. Eisenberg plays the lead role with such raw emotion and vulnerability that it’s hard not to be moved by his performance. He perfectly captures the physical and emotional anguish that his character is experiencing, and it’s impossible not to empathize with him.

Despite his incredible work in the film, I feel like Eisenberg’s performance is not getting the recognition it deserves. While the film itself may not be a blockbuster hit, his portrayal of the main character is truly outstanding and deserving of awards recognition.

If you’re a fan of Eisenberg’s work or just enjoy powerful performances, I highly recommend checking out A Real Pain. It’s a film that will stay with you long after the credits roll, and Jesse Eisenberg’s performance is definitely one to remember.

  • Solo Leveling Season 2 Finally Reveals Jin-Woo’s New Rank

    Summary

    • Jin-Woo re-evaluates his rank and becomes an S-Rank Hunter, Korea’s tenth.
    • His power level surpasses other Korean S-Rank Hunters like Baek Yoonho.
    • Jin-Woo is approached by wealthy Guilds, which could potentially disrupt the balance of power.

Season 2 of Solo Leveling started off with action-packed episodes, something that the entire fandom was hoping to see. We saw Jin-Woo defeating the Ice Elf Boss inside an A-Rank Dungeon while also substantially expanding his Shadow Army. The premiere episodes made it pretty clear that Sung Jin-Woo has come a long way in terms of strength.

Jin-Woo has been using The System to level up at an incredible pace, and he now has access to some of the most powerful weapons. Also, let’s not forget that our protagonist has more than one A-Rank soldier in his Shadow Army. He started off as an E-Rank Hunter, but thanks to the powers bestowed upon him by the Architect, Jin-Woo has now become one of the strongest Hunters in Korea.

How Does Solo Leveling: Ragnarök Compare to the Original Manhwa?

2024 was a busy year for Solo Leveling, as the anime, documentary, and sequel manhwa were released. How does Ragnarök compare to the original manhwa?

Sung Jin-Woo Decides To Re-Evaluate His Rank

    He’s Officially An S-Rank Hunter

More often than not, Rank re-evaluation doesn’t change anything for Hunters in Solo Leveling. Mostly, these Hunters end up paying a hefty fee for the re-assessment only to end up disappointed after getting the same rank.

Of course, there are some rare instances of reawakening, but that usually happens with a Hunter in the midst of a battle. In such cases, the Hunter Association takes action on its own end and sends some agents to re-evaluate the Hunter. This happened with Jin-Woo after he returned unscathed from the Double Dungeon. Jin-Woo was re-assessed by the Hunter Association, but since he didn’t use The System at the time, he was still E-Rank.

This happens every so often. Delusional Hunters who are unhappy with life come here looking for a second chance – Agent at the Hunter Association HQ.

When Jin-Woo appeared for retesting, some agents thought that he was just another “Delusional Hunter” who would end up wasting his money. The agent also realized that Jin-Woo was retested after his return from the Double Dungeon, and it was nothing but a false alarm.

However, the agent is shocked to see the Error message when Jin-Woo puts his hand on the machine. At first, the agent thought it was some technical glitch, but she soon learned that their machine was incapable of measuring Jin-Woo’s mana levels, which further means that Jin-Woo is now an S-Rank Hunter. The last time something like that happened was with Cha Hae-In, who was the ninth S-Rank Hunter to come out of Korea. It means that Sung Jin-Woo is Korea’s tenth S-Rank Hunter.

Jin-Woo’s Power Level Compared To Other S-Rank Hunter

Jin-Woo is the tenth S-Rank Hunter to come out of Korea, but there’s no official way of knowing how he compares to other S-Rank Hunters. Since the mana machine shows an error message when evaluating an S-Rank Hunter, there’s no way of comparing the mana levels of S-Ranks. However, S-Rank Hunters can very well sense each other’s power level. In the first episode of Season 2, Jin-Woo realizes that he’s on the same level as Baek Yoonho, Korea’s weakest S-Rank Hunter. That being said, Jin-Woo levels up after the Red Gate Arc, so he’s now much stronger than Baek Yoonho.

Solo Leveling: Every Human Sung Jin-woo Has Killed In The Anime (So Far)

In the Solo Leveling anime, Jin-Woo sometimes has no choice but to kill humans to level up.

Similarly, in the fourth episode, Jin-Woo senses Go Gunhee’s power level and confirms that, at that particular moment, they are almost equal in power. Despite his old age, Go Gunhee is still possibly the strongest Hunter in Korea. If Jin-Woo is “almost” equal to Go Gunhee, then he’s already stronger than other Korean S-Rank Hunters.

The S-Rank Status Opens A Lot Of Doors For Jin-Woo

He’s Being Approached By Some Of The Wealthiest Guilds

Before the re-evaluation, very few people knew about Jin-Woo’s true potential. However, the much-awaited re-evaluation makes Jin-Woo’s new rank go public, so it shouldn’t be surprising that he is being approached by some immensely wealthy Guilds. A Hunter being evaluated as an S-Rank isn’t a usual occurrence, so obviously, the news about Jin-Woo spreads like wildfire. In fact, Choi Jong-In, the Guild Master Hunters Guild (Korea’s largest Guild), was already enquiring about the Hunter who “took down the Red Gate.” And, well, he only had to walk a few steps to find the guy. Choi Jong-In instantly senses Jin-Woo’s mana level and extends his hand for friendship. However, Jin-Woo turns him down by saying that he’s in a hurry. So, you could say that Jin-Woo has already rejected the offer from Korea’s wealthiest Guild.

At the same time, Baek Yoonho, Guild Master of the White Tiger Guild, ran all the way to find Jin-Woo in the building. Baek already made it pretty clear that he wants to recruit Jin-Woo. But now that Jin-Woo is officially an S-Rank, Baek is growing more desperate to bag the Hunter for his Guild. There are five big Guilds in Korea, so it’s obvious that the three remaining Guilds will also approach Jin-Woo and try to recruit him. However, Jin-Woo joining one of the five Guilds could throw things out of balance.

These five behemoths are barely maintaining balance. But as soon as you join any of them, that balance will be shattered – Go Gunhee to Sung Jin-Woo.

As Go Gunhee mentioned in the episode, the five major Guilds are “barely maintaining balance,” and that balance will shatter if Jin-Woo joins one of these Guilds. In short, one of these Guilds can control the entire country if it comes out on the top. To prevent that from happening, Go Gunhee offers Jin-Woo the opportunity to join the Korean Hunters Association. Hunters Association can become powerful enough to keep a check on these Guilds if Jin-Woo joins them. But, as expected, Jin-Woo also rejects Go Gunhee’s offer. At first, Go Gunhee wonders if he’s rejecting the offer because of money, but there’s something else going on in Jin-Woo’s mind. Apparently, the Hunters Association doesn’t take part in Dungeon Raids, and Jin-Woo needs to fight monsters to level up.

Jin-Woo is getting all the unwanted attention right now, and it isn’t going to stop anytime soon. Right now, the world sees Jin-Woo as Korea’s tenth S-Rank Hunter, but it won’t take long for Jin-Woo to become the world’s strongest. When that happens, our beloved protagonist will get offers from Guilds outside of Korea as well.

  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure is finally out on Nintendo Switch and PC

Hello Kitty Island Adventure was first released as an Apple Arcade exclusive — arguably one of the only worthwhile exclusives the service has ever offered. The open-world Hello Kitty-themed life sim was well received upon its release in July 2023, but the game’s potential for competing with other great life sims was stunted by the contract. Now, a year and a half later, Hello Kitty Island Adventure finally comes to Nintendo Switch and Windows PC, with more console releases planned for the rest of 2025. And while the game screams Switch — it’s clearly designed in the style of Animal Crossing: New Horizons — some lingering mobile-only quirks might make it a tough sell for people who aren’t already invested in the Sanrio universe.

When it comes to Sanrio fanservice, though, this game is absolutely, downright, 100% delightful. You can’t compete with the joy that comes with delivering gifts on behalf of My Melody or going bug-hunting with Keroppi. There are Gudetama lazing about all over the world, and you get rewards for photographing a lot of them. I got my review code for this game the week of the U.S. presidential inauguration, and playing it almost felt like the salve New Horizons was during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic — a feeling that makes me excited to check out the multiplayer mode, too.

A character from Hello Kitty Island Adventure stands in a kitchen, proudly holding up a fruit tart on a plate. Hello Kitty is to their left, and another character with an ice cream cone on their head is standing to the right

    Image: Sunblink

But the more time I spent with Hello Kitty Island Adventure, the more annoyed I became with the game’s poor explanations of crucial gameplay mechanics — particularly the mechanics that start to become more relevant as you get further into the game. The game’s sense of time is the biggest problem: It has in-game days, which are mostly inconsequential, as well as mechanics that rely on the passage of time in real life. So, when Hello Kitty tells you to “come back tomorrow” to learn another cake recipe, it’s initially unclear whether that’s an in-game tomorrow or a real-time tomorrow. Items respawn depending on how much real time has passed; you can only give your friends three gifts per real day. In that sense, the game’s days feel like they’re there for visual interest alone — a bit of a disappointing departure from the cozy life sim genre.

Other departures are refreshing, like the lack of a traditional currency. Instead, you swap less valuable items, or a combination of them, for more valuable items — and it’s nice to not have to grind toward a massive savings in order to hit cruising altitude with the game. Friendships are similarly simple: It’s easy to level up your relationships at first, and each character’s preferences are denoted with tags rather than forcing you to use trial and error or keep a guide up on your browser while you play. You won’t run out of energy in Hello Kitty Island Adventure either — a core mechanic of life sims that can feel exhausting, no pun intended, and sometimes like a force-fed replacement for difficulty.

The main “grind” of Hello Kitty Island Adventure has to do with that element of time: waiting for a real-life day to pass so you can level your friendships up more, collect more items you need, unlock more daily quests, and so on. As such, I’ve found myself time traveling a lot — something Polygon service writer Ana Diaz, who played the game via Apple Arcade, told me was always possible. The fact that the game doesn’t break or punish you for save-scumming is a boon for console and PC players, because I envision them treating this game more like an Animal Crossing, with long spurts of obsessive play, than a Spiritfarer or Cozy Grove, with shorter play sessions each day to complete daily quests.

Characters from Hello Kitty Island Adventure standing on a dock by some water. One of them has a fishing pole and has just caught a fish that they’re reeling in. The other characters are looking on; one of them is a bird sitting at an open-air shop counter with fishing supplies.

    Image: Sunblink

Ultimately, it feels like Hello Kitty Island Adventure hasn’t quite married its mobile-first design with its newfound foray to PC and consoles. Some controls feel clunky with a joystick, like the tool selection wheel, and the mechanics designed to keep you coming back feel shoehorned into what has potential to be a nearly perfect game for a handheld console.

All concessions aside, though, this game sold me on Hello Kitty — a franchise I’ve always found cute but never really connected with the way others seemed to — and I think parts of it, like the fishing mechanic and the minigames, would be an excellent entry to the genre of cozy games. In my first five hours or so of gameplay, I thought that’d be the angle of my review, that this game can train you up for the less forgiving titles in the genre. But as it is right now, it feels more like a really good Hello Kitty game than a really good life sim. I’m excited to see how the game changes as updates emerge, and whether its mobile version starts to differ from the console version more over time — and even though I’m done writing this review, I certainly am not done galavanting around the island, giving gifts to my favorite Sanrio characters.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure will be released Jan. 30 on Nintendo Switch and Windows PC. (It had previously been released for iOS, Mac, and Apple TV on July 28, 2023.) • The FTC Take Action, Is Time Finally Up For John Deere On Right To Repair?

Over the last decade we have brought you frequent reports not from the coolest of hackerspaces or the most bleeding edge of engineering in California or China, but from the rolling prairies of the American Midwest. Those endless fields of cropland waving in the breeze have been the theatre for an unlikely battle over right to repair, the result of which should affect us all. The case of FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION, STATE OF ILLINOIS, and STATE OF MINNESOTA, v. DEERE & COMPANY  relates to the machinery manufacturer’s use of DRM to restrict the repair of its products, and holds the promise to end the practice once and for all.

This is being written in Europe, where were an average person asked to name a brand that says “America”, they might reach for the familiar; perhaps Disney, McDonalds, or Coca-Cola. These are the flag-bearers of American culture for outsiders, but it’s fair to say that none of them can claim to have built the country. The green and yellow Deere tractors on the other hand represent the current face of a company with nearly two hundred years of farming history, which by virtue of producing some of the first mass-produced plows, had perhaps the greatest individual role in shaping modern American agriculture and thus indirectly the country itself. To say that Deere is woven into the culture of rural America is something of an understatement, agricultural brands like Deere have an enviable customer base, the most loyal of any industry.

Thus while those green and yellow tractors are far from the only case of DRM protected repairability, they have become the symbolic poster child for the issue as a whole. It’s important to understand then how far-reaching it is beyond the concerns of us technology and open-source enthusiasts, and into something much more fundamental.

The text of the lawsuit itself can be readily downloaded as a PDF, and from our non-lawyerly pass it seems that at its heart lies the manufacturer’s monopolistic practices by restricting access to software diagnostic and repair tools, rather than the use of DRM itself. Thus should the suit not go Deere’s way, as we read it it wouldn’t undermine the DMCA or the use of DRM, but it would lessen the attractiveness of DRM to a manufacturer by removing their ability to restrict repairers whether they use DRM or not. This would propagate out beyond the farm, and have a consequent effect on the repairability of much more than tractors.

This lawsuit is the latest of many targeting the same issue, and despite having the FTC behind it we’re not certain of its chances of success in the current climate. We hope that decades of these practices causing a modern Deere to be worth considerably less than an old one will inflict enough damage on the brand for its competitors to take note. There was a time when buying a Deere such as the one your scribe piloted over the fields of Oxfordshire years ago was the “Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM” of agricultural machinery, while now there’s a seed of doubt as to whether a minor breakdown could cause a lost harvest. That’s not an enviable position for any brand to find itself in, especially by its own hand.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has taken action against John Deere in a case that could have far-reaching implications for the right to repair movement. For years, John Deere has faced criticism for its restrictive repair policies, which have made it difficult for farmers and independent mechanics to fix their own equipment.

Now, the FTC is stepping in to investigate whether John Deere’s practices violate antitrust laws. This could be a major turning point in the battle for right to repair, as a ruling against John Deere could set a precedent for other manufacturers to follow.

Farmers and advocates for the right to repair are hopeful that this action by the FTC will finally put an end to John Deere’s anti-competitive practices. If successful, it could open the door for a more open and competitive repair market, giving consumers more choice and control over their own equipment.

Stay tuned for updates as this case unfolds, as the outcome could have a major impact on the future of the right to repair movement. Is time finally up for John Deere? Only time will tell.

  • Monster Hunter Wilds director is proud of his horrible, oily giant octopus son that belches flame and writhes in the muck, says it’s a technical challenge he’s ‘finally getting to attempt’

Yuya Tokuda, director of the upcoming slay-a-thon Monster Hunter Wilds, is very proud of the terrifying Oilwell Basin and the critters within it. The basin itself is styled as a ‘what if we made the deep ocean on land and then set it all on fire’ zone. For context, it’s home to that horrible “affront to god” fans were yelping about last year.

It’s also home to—spoilers, obviously—the apex creature Nu Udra, which is sort of what you’d get if you made a squid on land and then set it all on fire. In an interview and reveal with IGN, the top beastie of the Oilwell Basin is revealed to be an enormous squidlike monstrosity dubbed The Black Flame.

Monster Hunter Wilds Director Proud of His Horrible, Oily Giant Octopus Son

In a recent interview, the director of the highly anticipated game Monster Hunter Wilds shared his excitement about a new creature he’s been working on – a massive, writhing octopus that belches flames and oozes with oily muck.

“I am so proud of my horrible, oily giant octopus son,” the director exclaimed with a grin. “It’s a technical challenge that I’ve been wanting to attempt for a long time, and I’m finally getting the chance to bring this twisted creature to life in the game.”

The director went on to explain that creating such a complex and unique monster presented a number of challenges, from designing its intricate movements to ensuring its flames were realistically rendered. But he expressed confidence in his team’s abilities to bring this monstrous creation to life in a way that will both terrify and thrill players.

Fans of the Monster Hunter series are eagerly anticipating the release of Wilds, and the addition of this nightmarish giant octopus is sure to add a new level of excitement to the game. Stay tuned for more updates on this monstrous creature and the challenges it presents for the director and his team.

  • ‘Elsbeth’ Finally Reveals What Happened in Chicago in ‘Most Emotional Scene We’ve Ever Done’ — What to Expect

The truth comes out in Elsbeth‘s midseason premiere. Following the major cliffhanger in December that revealed the legal scandal that made Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) flee Chicago at the start of the series, the midseason premiere will tell the whole story. There’s a heavy-hitting moment that showrunner Jonathan Tolins says is the “most emotional scene we’ve ever done.”

Elsbeth returns with Eric McCormack as guest star on Thursday, January 30 on CBS. In the episode, titled “Unalive and Well,” a young man is found dead in his car, and Elsbeth visits the holistic wellness center he’d just left. She begins to suspect its charismatic founder, Tom Murphey (McCormack), but she also gets some unexpected TLC after a tough few days at work. See an exclusive clip of the Will & Grace star in the video above. Tom and Elsbeth’s vibes couldn’t be more different, making for some great comedy.

Tom’s wellness center helps Elsbeth more than she expected. She arrived to investigate a murder, but she’ll leave having investigated her feelings more deeply. As revealed in the December midseason finale, Elsbeth was roped into a high-profile divorce case in Chicago during which documents that would’ve helped a struggling woman were hidden. The Van Ness divorce scandal was leaked to the press with the help of Judge Crawford (Michael Emerson, Preston’s husband) as part of their ongoing bitter feud.

The scandal has shocked Elsbeth’s work colleagues, who are now questioning the morals of a woman known among the bureau for her morality.

“She checks into the wellness center partly to get away from the scandal because it just gives her a chance to not be in people’s faces at the precinct,” Tolins tells TV Insider about Elsbeth‘s return. “And also, she ends up paired with a journey partner, played by Marcia Debonis, who is one of my favorite actresses, and who is so open and emotionally available that she becomes the perfect person for Elsbeth to talk to and unburden herself and really reveal what happened in Chicago. I think people are going to really like that.”

Marcia Debonis as Sheryl and Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni in Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 9, ‘Unalive and Well’ (Michael Parmelee / CBS)

Expect emotions to run deep in a scene by a campfire at the retreat. “Carrie and Marcia have a scene by a campfire. It’s beautifully written by Leah Nanako Winkler and directed by Nancy Hower, and it is one of the most emotional scenes we’ve ever done, if not the most emotional scene we’ve ever done. It is so beautiful. I can’t wait for people to see it,” says Tolins.

What makes it pack such a punch? “Well, we get to hear the pain and the anger that Elsbeth had about what happened in Chicago,” Tolins reveals, “which is the reason she left her whole life, she left the law and decided to move to New York and take this job working with the police.”

He’s also eager for viewers to see McCormack as the celebrity health nut who will bring the laughs while taking his job very, very seriously. McCormack’s Tom “exploits his power over people with his charm and his seductive qualities, but he’s not a conman,” Tolins reveals. “He does have gifts, but he is also very protective of what he’s built.”

Tolins notes that one specific practice at the center was based on real-life. “The plot involves this ceremony using a secretion from a frog that is actually a real thing,” he explains. “If you look it up, there are these centers where people do — it’s called the combo ceremony. It seems like we made it up. We didn’t make it up. It’s a bizarre thing that gives the episode an air of mystery and sort of other worldliness that is kind of cool.”

Elsbeth, Season 2 Midseason Premiere, Thursday, January 30, 10/9c, CBS

In the latest episode of “Elsbeth,” fans were left on the edge of their seats as the beloved character finally reveals what happened in Chicago. According to the show’s creators, this will be the most emotional scene they have ever done, so viewers should prepare for a rollercoaster of emotions.

In this highly anticipated moment, Elsbeth will open up about the traumatic events that took place in Chicago and how they have shaped her life ever since. Viewers can expect raw and powerful performances from the talented cast as they delve into the depths of Elsbeth’s past and her struggles to come to terms with it.

As fans eagerly await this emotional revelation, they can also look forward to seeing how Elsbeth’s story will continue to unfold and how it will impact her relationships with those around her. This episode promises to be a turning point for the character and will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on viewers.

So grab your tissues and get ready to experience the most emotional scene in “Elsbeth” history. You won’t want to miss a minute of this powerful and heart-wrenching episode.

  • Rhode Peptide Lip Shape Liner is Finally Available to Shop

For years, we’ve known Hailey Bieber’s go-to lip combination involves swiping on a lip liner, smudging it out, and then layering on a glossy lip balm. So it was no surprise that when she launched her beauty brand Rhode, it included a lip balm—the Peptide Lip Treatment—which has since won Cosmo beauty awards and the hearts of everyone on our feeds. The one piece of this puzzle we’ve been missing is the lip liner… until now. Bieber’s been teasing a lip liner in a unique shape for months, and we finally have it: Rhode Peptide Lip Shape, which is officially available to shop now today. (!)

Shop the Rhode Peptide Lip Shape here

    Rhode Peptide Lip Shape

The Peptide Lip Shape isn’t a lip liner though, per se. It’s meant to be a contour for your lips to add definition and color while also making your lips look and feel more plump and hydrated. The formula actually features peptides, the go-to ingredient in Rhode’s lip balm, to help soften, moisturize, and smooth lips over time. This leads to a much creamier, buildable liner that glides on easily and can be buffed out with the built-in silicone smudger on the other end.

In 11 shades ranging from light pinks and mauves to taupes and mid-tone browns to dark ebony tones, you can opt for a subtle contoured effect or a full-on ombré lip moment. In the promotional images, Bieber modeled one of her go-to shades—Press, a warm pink—while musician Tate McRae wore Balance, a caramel brown (which Bieber also says she swears by as a daily contour shade).

Try gliding the Peptide Lip Shape around the outline of your lips (you don’t have to be too precise or precious with it, according to Bieber, which is the beauty of this soft formula), then blend out the edges with the smudger. Feel free to overline your lips a lil to add some volume, or follow your natural lip line. Then, dab on a lip balm for some shine and extra hydration.

The Peptide Lip Shape is available starting January 30 at 12 p.m. EST, and if you’re thinking about picking one (or, idk, five) up, do it quick. Like most Rhode launches, this one will probably sell pretty fast. You can grab one for $24, or snag this Peptide Lip Shape Set and choose four shades for $92.
