Tom Hardy’s 97% Rotten Tomatoes Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi Thriller Finds Immediate Streaming Success on a New Platform

2024 was a relatively quiet year for Tom Hardy until the release of Venom: The Last Dance, the Sony superhero tentpole that grossed over $475 million at the worldwide box office on its way to becoming one of the biggest films of the year. However, long before he ever suited up as Eddie Brock, Hardy starred in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller that will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year, and was just added to a new streamer. Hardy features alongside Charlie Theron and Nicholas Hoult in Mad Max: Fury Road, which was recently removed from Max and added to Netflix along with the 2024 prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Mad Max: Fury Road has wasted no time climbing the Netflix streaming charts, sitting at #4 in the top 10 at the time of writing.

Mad Max: Fury Road was written and directed by George Miller, with Brendan McCarthy and Nick Lathouris also receiving credit for their work as scribes on the film. Miller’s first big breakout came in 1979 when he directed the original Mad Max, the car action thriller starring Mel Gibson in the lead role. Just a few years later, he also helmed the sequel, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, before wrapping up the classic trilogy with Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Before he returned to the Mad Max franchise in 2015 to direct Fury Road, Miller also worked as the director on Happy Feet and Happy Feet Two, the animated films starring Elijah Wood and Robin Williams. In 2022 he also directed Three Thousand Years of Longing, the fairy tale fantasy thriller starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton.

What Else Has Tom Hardy Been in Lately?

Before playing Eddie Brock for the final time in Venom: The Last Dance, Hardy also starred alongside Austin Butler and Jodie Comer in The Bikeriders, the gritty gangster motorcycle drama from writer/director Jeff Nichols. This came the year after reprising his role as Alfie Solomons in the final season of Peaky Blinders, the period crime drama streaming on Netflix. He also played Eddie Brock for the second time in 2021 in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which featured Woody Harrelson as the titular villain.

Mad Max: Fury Road stars Tom Hardy and Charlie Theron and was written and directed by George Miller. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates and watch Mad Max: Fury Road on Netflix.

  • Tyler Buchner finds his place at Notre Dame, as a walk-on receiver

Tyler Buchner finds his place at Notre Dame, as a walk-on receiver

NEW ORLEANS − You didn’t have to look too far or think too hard to see the irony.

When Notre Dame football met the media Monday in advance of the Allstate Sugar Bowl matchup with Georgia on New Year’s Day, Irish players were arranged at round tables of six by position. All the quarterbacks sat together. All the running backs were grouped in a circle. All the wide receivers, and offensive linemen, and right on down the positional line.

From his spot in the back of a downtown hotel ballroom, former Notre Dame quarterback turned transfer quarterback turned walk-on wide receiver Tyler Buchner had a view of the table he might’ve called home, had he stayed at Notre Dame. Right in Buchner’s line of vision was freshman quarterback C.J Carr, so clear that he could’ve looped him a screen pass.

Tyler Buchner, the highly touted quarterback prospect out of San Diego, has found his place at Notre Dame – but not in the role many expected. After arriving on campus as a freshman, Buchner made a surprising switch to wide receiver, opting to walk-on to the team at a position he had never played before.

Despite the initial skepticism surrounding his decision, Buchner quickly began turning heads with his natural athleticism and playmaking ability. His speed, agility, and strong hands quickly caught the attention of coaches and teammates alike, who were impressed by his quick transition to a new position.

While Buchner’s path to Notre Dame may have been unexpected, his determination and work ethic have proven to be a perfect fit for the Fighting Irish program. As he continues to learn and grow as a wide receiver, Buchner has the potential to make a significant impact on the team and contribute in ways that were not originally anticipated.

With his versatility and dedication to his craft, Tyler Buchner is poised to make a name for himself as a walk-on receiver at Notre Dame, showing that sometimes the path less traveled can lead to unexpected success.

  • Novak Djokovic says what he finds ‘incredible’ about Gael Monfils ahead of facing him in the second round in Brisbane

Novak Djokovic says what he finds ‘incredible’ about Gael Monfils ahead of facing him in the second round in Brisbane

Novak Djokovic continues his search for a 100th ATP Tour title with a Brisbane International clash against Gael Monfils.

Djokovic beat Rinky Hijikata in the first round of the Brisbane International, with the former easing past the latter 6-3, 6-3.

The Serbian is also into the second round of the men’s doubles, where Djokovic is paired with Nick Kyrgios on his return from injury.

Home favourite Kyrgios can now afford to focus on that doubles venture, having lost his singles opener to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Djokovic’s doubts on court surprised Kyrgios, but the pair impressed individually and as a team to emerge victorious.

Novak Djokovic praises ‘incredible’ agility of Gael Monfils ahead of Brisbane match

Back to singles, however, and the 24-time Grand Slam champion now meets a familiar foe in Frenchman Monfils.

Discussing what he is expecting from his next opponent, Djokovic said in his latest Brisbane International press conference: “Expecting for the streak to go on, unbeaten streak against Gael.

“We saw each other in the locker room after our matches today, and we had a talk about it. It’s awesome. He’s a year older than me. He’s still going strong.

“He was always one of the best athletes that we have on the tour. Flexibility, agility, speed, you know, strength, it’s just exceptional with him.

“He’s a super guy. We have known each other since the junior days and played many matches against each other. I look forward to it.

“I think he’s preferring these kind of conditions, where the surface is slightly quicker, and so he can get points off his first serve. His first serve can be really a big weapon if he’s feeling good about it, which seems to be the case.

“Last year he beat [Carlos] Alcaraz in Cincinnati, which, in terms of the speed of the surface, is similar to here and is quite quick.

“So if you serve well and go through your service games and put pressure on your opponent, and he moves as well as anybody, really. He’s shown that he’s got incredible agility and huge defence, and so he’s also really crafty on the net.

“So he’s been an all-round player for so many years and great to still be able to play him at this level, as veterans of the game. So it should be fun.”

What is the head-to-head record between Novak Djokovic and Gael Monfils?

Aged 37 and 38 respectively, Djokovic and Monfils have unsurprisingly met in a long list of different events over the years.

The former turned professional back in 2003, a year before the latter, with the pair going on to face each other 19 times.

Remarkably, Djokovic has won all 19 of their meetings so far, the latest of which came in Cincinnati last year.

As per Tennis TV, that round of 16 victory helped ensure the biggest undefeated head-to-head in ATP history.

Monfils did, however, enjoy much better memories of the event this time around, with the ATP Tour number 55 beating Alcaraz and Alexei Popyrin before losing to Holger Rune.

He will now need to produce similar, if not better, levels to bring an end to his miserable Djokovic record in Brisbane.

Bride Finds Dream Wedding Reception Dress at Goodwill for $7.99

A bride found her dream wedding reception dress … for a mere $7.99!

Chiara Gallo was shopping the aisles of her local Goodwill store in Nashville when she came upon an unexpected find: A sheer white beaded Banjul dress — which she tells Newsweek she believes would typically retail between $100-$300.

“It felt like it was meant to be,” she told the outlet, noting that she wasn’t even at the store to find a wedding dress that day.

“My initial reaction when I spotted the dress was pure excitement,” Gallo continued. “I couldn’t believe such a beautiful piece was just sitting there, waiting for me. I immediately pictured myself wearing it at the reception, and I knew it would add a special touch to the day.”

Gallo, who, according to her social media accounts, is a digital content creator, initially posted about the find to her TikTok on Friday, Dec. 20, writing, “Went to goodwill and just got my wedding reception dress $7.99.” As of Monday, Dec. 30, the post has received 4.3 million views.

She posted a follow-up video to the now-viral clip on Saturday, Dec. 21, featuring herself trying the dress on at home and revealing that she will be getting a portion of it tailored.

“Okay guys, so this is how the dress looks,” she says in the video’s voiceover. “I’m bigger chested, so I’m getting it tailored to fit my chest, but the beading is amazing. It fits like a glove on the bottom … And I’m absolutely in love with it.”

“Your dream day doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag,” she told the outlet, adding, “So don’t let a limited budget hold you back from creating something beautiful. Be creative, think outside the box, and definitely check out your local thrift shops. You can make your day as special as you imagine without breaking the bank.”

Commenters on TikTok were in resounding agreement with Gallo’s take.

“Oh this is definitely A FIND,” one person wrote on the initial dress video. Another added, “People hate on goodwill but you can find some good stuff at great prices. It’s a scavenger hunt and I’m all for it.”

I recently had the most incredible stroke of luck while thrift shopping at Goodwill. As a bride-to-be on a budget, I was browsing through the racks when I stumbled upon the most stunning wedding reception dress I had ever seen. And the best part? It was only $7.99!

I couldn’t believe my eyes as I held up the delicate lace and tulle gown, complete with intricate beading and a flattering silhouette. It was as if the dress had been made just for me. Without hesitation, I tried it on and it fit like a dream.

Air pollution impacts marathon times: Brown University study finds

PROVIDENCE — Poor air quality can contribute to slower average finish times for marathon runners, according to a study from researchers at Brown University.

Recently published in Sports Medicine, the analysis conducted by School of Public Health researchers relied on publicly available data from nine major marathons across the United States between 2003 and 2019, including from races in Boston, Los Angeles, and Houston, according to university officials.

Researchers compiled finish times from 1,506,137 male marathon finishers and 1,058,674 female finishers, and combined the information with data from a statistical model showing the amount of fine particulate matter in the air at different points along the routes.

Allan Just, an associate professor of epidemiology and environment and society at the university, created the model.

“This really sophisticated spatial-temporal model of particulate matter allowed us to plot pollution at every mile of every course,” study author Elvira Fleury said in a statement. Fleury led the research while studying as a graduate student at the university. “Without a model like this, it wouldn’t have been possible to look at so many different marathons in different states across different years.”

According to researchers, air pollutant concentration is measured in micrograms per cubic meter of air, or µg/m3.

“Analyzing all finish times, the researchers found that each 1 µg/m3 higher particulate matter on race day was associated with 32-second slower average finish times among men and 25-second slower average finish times among women,” university officials said. “The effects were more pronounced in faster-than-median runners.”

Researchers said air pollution impact on marathon times could be due to “increased blood pressure, constricted blood vessels, reduced lung function, respiratory discomfort or possibly even short-term cognitive issues.” Past research has revealed air pollution is tied to mortality and heart and lung diseases.

Fleury, now a doctoral student at Harvard University, said the effect of air quality on differences in marathon finishing times may appear small, but just a few seconds can have a huge impact on runners working to set records.

“Think of all the effort, time and money that a professional runner like Eliud Kipchoge put into trying to break the world record and run a marathon in less than two hours,” Fleury said. “Runners at that level are thinking about their gear, their nutrition, their training, the course, even the weather. Our results show that those interested in optimizing athletic performance should consider the effect of air pollution, as well.”

Air pollution impacts marathon times: Brown University study finds

A recent study conducted by researchers at Brown University has found that air pollution can have a significant impact on marathon times. The study, which looked at data from over 100 marathons held in major cities around the world, found that runners in cities with higher levels of air pollution tended to have slower race times.

The researchers found that runners in cities with high levels of air pollution were more likely to experience respiratory issues, such as coughing and shortness of breath, which could negatively impact their performance. Additionally, the study found that air pollution can also affect the body’s ability to deliver oxygen to muscles, leading to decreased endurance and slower race times.

These findings highlight the importance of addressing air pollution in urban areas, not only for the health of residents but also for the performance of athletes. As marathon races continue to grow in popularity, it is crucial that steps are taken to reduce air pollution levels and create healthier environments for all individuals.

The researchers hope that their study will raise awareness about the impact of air pollution on athletic performance and encourage policymakers to take action to improve air quality in cities around the world. By prioritizing clean air, we can create a healthier and more sustainable environment for everyone.

  • Chip Kelly finds satisfaction at Ohio State he couldn’t get at UCLA

Chip Kelly finds satisfaction at Ohio State he couldn’t get at UCLA

As Ohio State packs its bags for the trip to Pasadena to play Oregon in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl, offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is making sure he has enough of one particular item.

“I gotta get more sunscreen,” he said as he chuckled a bit. “We haven’t seen the sun in a little while out here in Columbus.”

Kelly will be returning to the sideline he roamed for six years as head coach of the UCLA Bruins, a job that once made him the highest-paid state employee in California, and one he stepped down from last February to take the reins of Ohio State’s offense. While the move — and the timing of it — might have burned bridges with several Angelenos, the significance of playing in the Rose Bowl isn’t lost on him.

“The game itself, and the Rose Bowl itself, it’s such an iconic place to play,” Kelly said. “To be at that 2 o’clock kickoff on the West Coast, and on Jan. 1, it’s special. I’m excited. [It’s] an opportunity to coach in another role as well, I think that’s going to be really special.”

Going from head coach to coordinator voluntarily was something unheard of when Kelly bolted for Columbus just before spring practice was set to begin, but his comments on Saturday morning sounded similar to other high profile college coaches who have called it quits in the NIL era.

Kelly is no longer the chief executive officer that needs to divide his attention between NIL, boosters, administration, recruiting and the transfer portal, he’s now the branch manager that only needs to concern himself with the Xs and O’s.

“It’s been a lot more football and a lot less overall meetings I think that a head coach has to do.” he said. “Sometimes, I think as a head coach, you wear a lot of different hats. Obviously as a coordinator and just coaching the quarterbacks, it’s a little bit different.

“So it’s been fun, really enjoy being back in the meeting room with players on a day-to-day basis. As a head coach, you bounce around to different meeting rooms, but as the coordinator, you’re with the quarterbacks all the time. So I really have enjoyed that aspect of it.”

The feeling is mutual for his starting quarterback, Will Howard, whose upbringing as a Philadelphia Eagles fan coincided with Kelly’s years as their head coach. Occasionally during their meetings, Kelly will pull up film from his time with the Eagles, highlighting key players from Howard’s childhood.

“He’s coached some of the best players that I grew up watching,” Howard said. “And just getting to work with him, and just getting to be on the same page with him about a lot of things, the more that this year has gone on … I feel like we’re in sync right now, pretty damn well.”

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, left, talks with offensive coordinator Chip Kelly before a game against Akron in August.

    (Jason Mowry / Getty Images)

Howard’s veteran presence has invigorated Kelly, who often brings his QB1 into the game-plan meetings. They’re able to bounce ideas for different situations off of each other, and Howard has the experience to give his opinion on situations because he’s been in them before, he’s able to push back on certain calls, explain why he might not agree with them, and give suggestions of his own.

That experience has made Howard invaluable to Kelly.

“I think our relationship has just gotten better and better as the year’s gone on,” Howard said. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with him and working with him. We’ve had a good time with it, and we want to finish this thing the right way.”

Howard isn’t the only quarterback in the Rose Bowl that has ties to Kelly.

A few years before Dillon Gabriel became a Heisman Trophy finalist for the Oregon Ducks, and even before he made a name for himself at Oklahoma, Gabriel almost suited up for Kelly at UCLA.

Kelly had his eye on Gabriel ever since he was at Mililani High in Hawaii, where he set a state record with 9,948 career passing yards. His first two years were spent at Central Florida and when he hit the transfer portal after the 2021 season, Gabriel announced his commitment to the Bruins before ultimately flipping to the Sooners a month later.

None of Gabriel’s success has surprised Kelly. His accuracy, calmness in the pocket and athleticism have made Kelly a longtime admirer of his.

“There’s a poise about him that I think is kind of special for the quarterback position,” Kelly said of Gabriel. “Doesn’t seem to get rattled too much. Really has a true understanding of what they want to get accomplished there, and is also really athletic so that if you take away some of his options from a throw standpoint, he can beat you with his legs. So I think he’s the complete package, and one of the top quarterbacks in the country.”

With the Rose Bowl looming, Kelly reflected on his personal growth over the past year in his role with the Buckeyes, and he maintains that he still carries his experiences as a Bruin with him.

“I think anytime, you’re a product of your environment, so to be able to be around this group, the players and obviously this coaching staff here has to make anybody better,” Kelly said. “So I think the fact that I got a chance to spend some time with this group is truly a special time.

“I had a great time when I was at UCLA, I had a great staff and an unbelievable group of players there too. So I think [I’m] just really fortunate with everybody that I’ve got a chance to be around the last seven years.”

After a disappointing tenure at UCLA, Chip Kelly has found a new sense of satisfaction at Ohio State. The former head coach of the Bruins has been thriving as the offensive coordinator for the Buckeyes, leading one of the most potent offenses in college football.

Kelly’s time at UCLA was filled with challenges and struggles, as he was unable to replicate the success he had at Oregon. However, since joining Ohio State, Kelly has found renewed energy and passion for the game.

Under Kelly’s guidance, the Buckeyes have become a force to be reckoned with on offense, consistently putting up big numbers and dominating their opponents. Kelly’s innovative play-calling and strategic mind have been instrumental in Ohio State’s success this season.

While his time at UCLA may have been a disappointment, Kelly has found a new sense of satisfaction and fulfillment at Ohio State. With the Buckeyes on the rise and Kelly at the helm of their explosive offense, the future looks bright for both the coach and the team.

The documents obtained by the outlet state that Angelina Jolie has been delaying the release of the email conversations he’s requested.

In the wake of these allegations, it was also reported that the duo, who remained married for two years, had been offered to reunite for a new project.

Danny Rossner candidly shared his desire to cast both stars, Pitt and Jolie, in his upcoming flick in a resurfaced interview with New York Post.

During this chat, Danny reflected upon the movie, based on the nonfiction book The Hotel Martinez by Phillip M. Kenny, in which he wanted to cast both the A-listed celebrities.

“There is a love scene … It’s a torrid one, too,” the film producer began by saying. “It’s not salacious but there are very heavy love scenes. [Martinez] had a wife and he had a mistress.”

“Right now, I think, Brad Pitt’s in the $20 million (£15.65 million) to $25 million (£19.5 million) range (per movie) and Angelina Jolie is in the $15 million (£11.7 million) range,” he added.

Moreover, Rossner revealed his offer by saying, “In the 50-percent range above their going rate is what we’re prepared to offer.

According to recent reports, Brad Pitt has allegedly found new ways to make his divorce from Angelina Jolie even messier. Sources close to the couple have revealed that Pitt has been making increasingly bold moves in an attempt to gain leverage in the ongoing custody battle over their six children.

One of the most recent incidents involved Pitt reportedly refusing to allow Jolie access to their children during a scheduled visitation. This move has caused tension between the two and has only added to the already complicated divorce proceedings.

Additionally, Pitt has been making public statements that have been seen as undermining Jolie’s credibility and character. These actions have only fueled the fire of their highly publicized divorce and have made it even more contentious.

It seems that Brad Pitt is not backing down in this divorce battle and is determined to make it as messy as possible. Only time will tell how this will all play out in the end. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Vikings’ Sam Darnold finds Jalen Nailor for 31-yard TD pass

MINNEAPOLIS — After opening a key NFC North matchup in fits and starts, the Minnesota Vikings finally hit paydirt with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Sam Darnold to receiver Jalen Nailor.

Nailor got behind the Green Bay Packers defense in part because the Vikings’ top two receivers, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, ran intermediate routes. It was Nailor’s sixth touchdown reception of the season on a total of 36 receptions.

The play gave the Vikings a 7-3 lead, an advantage they built without targeting Jefferson once. Of Darnold’s first 12 passes, three went toward Nailor, two to Addison and one apiece to T.J. Hockenson, Johnny Mundt, Aaron Jones and C.J. Ham.

It was Darnold’s fifth TD pass of at least 30 air yards this season, and the first allowed by the Packers.

In a thrilling game against the rival Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback Sam Darnold connected with wide receiver Jalen Nailor for a stunning 31-yard touchdown pass. The play showcased Darnold’s precision passing and Nailor’s speed and skill as he maneuvered past defenders to find the end zone. The touchdown gave the Vikings a crucial lead in the game and ignited the crowd with excitement. It’s moments like these that remind us why football is such an exhilarating sport. Let’s hope for more incredible plays like this as the season continues. #SkolVikings

  • Americans are tuning out of political news, AP-NORC poll finds

Americans are tuning out of political news, AP-NORC poll finds

NEW YORK (AP) — As a Democrat who immersed himself in political news during the presidential campaign, Ziad Aunallah has much in common with many Americans since the election. He’s tuned out.

“People are mentally exhausted,” said Aunallah, 45, of San Diego. “Everyone knows what is coming and we are just taking some time off.”

Television ratings — and now a new poll — clearly illustrate the phenomenon. About two-thirds of American adults say they have recently felt the need to limit media consumption about politics and government because of overload, according to the survey from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Smaller percentages of Americans are limiting their intake of news about overseas conflicts, the economy or climate change, the poll says. Politics stand out.

Election news on CNN and MSNBC was taking up too much of Sam Gude’s time before the election, said the 47-year-old electrician from Lincoln, Nebraska. “The last thing I want to watch right now is the interregnum,” said Gude, a Democrat and no fan of President-elect Donald Trump.

Poll finds more Democrats than Republicans stepping away from news

The poll, conducted in early December, found that about 7 in 10 Democrats say they are stepping back from political news. The percentage isn’t as high for Republicans, who have reason to celebrate Trump’s victory. Still, about 6 in 10 Republicans say they’ve felt the need to take some time off too, and the share for independents is similar.

The differences are far starker for the TV networks that have been consumed by political news.

After election night through Dec. 13, the prime-time viewership of MSNBC was an average of 620,000, down 54% from the pre-election audience this year, the Nielsen company said. For the same time comparison, CNN’s average of 405,000 viewers was down 45%.

At Fox News Channel, a favorite news network for Trump fans, the post-election average of 2.68 million viewers is up 13%, Nielsen said. Since the election, 72% of the people watching one of those three cable networks in the evening were watching Fox News, compared to 53% prior to election day.

A post-election slump for fans of the losing candidate is not a new trend for networks that have become heavily identified for a partisan audience. MSNBC had similar issues after Trump was elected in 2016. Same for Fox in 2020, although that was complicated by anger: many of its viewers were outraged then by the network’s crucial election night call of Arizona for the Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden, and sought alternatives.

MSNBC had its own anger issues after several “Morning Joe” viewers became upset that hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski visited Trump shortly after his victory last month. Yet while the show’s ratings are down 35% since Election Day, that’s a smaller drop than the network’s prime-time ratings.

CNN points out that while it has been suffering in the television ratings, its streaming and digital ratings have been consistent.

Will political interest rebound when Trump takes office?

MSNBC can take some solace in history. In previous years, network ratings bounce back when the depression after an election loss lifts. When a new administration takes office, people who oppose it are frequently looking for a gathering place.

“I’ll be tuning back in once the clown show starts,” Aunallah said. “You have no choice. Whether or not you want to hear it, it’s happening. If you care about your country, you have no choice but to pay attention.”

But the ride may not be smooth. MSNBC’s slide is steeper than it was in 2016; and there’s some question about whether Trump opponents will want to be as engaged as they were during his first term. People are also unplugging from cable television in rates that are only getting more rapid, although MSNBC believes it has bucked this trend eating away at audiences before.

The poll indicates that Americans want less talk about politics from public figures in general. After an election season where endorsements from celebrities like Taylor Swift made headlines, the survey found that Americans are more likely to disapprove than approve of celebrities, large companies and professional athletes speaking out about politics.

Still, Gude is among those discovering other ways to get news to which he does want to pay attention, including on YouTube.

MSNBC is also in the middle of some corporate upheaval that raises questions about potential changes. Parent company Comcast announced last month that the cable network is among some properties that will spin off into a new company, which will give MSNBC new corporate leadership and cut its ties to NBC News.

Advice for networks who want to see the viewers return

Some of the Americans who have turned away from political news lately also had some advice for getting them engaged again.

Gude said, for example, that MSNBC will always have a hard-core audience of Trump haters. But if the network wants to expand its audience, “then you have to talk about issues, and you have to stop talking about Trump.”

Kathleen Kendrick, a 36-year-old sales rep from Grand Junction, Colorado, who’s a registered independent voter, said she hears plenty of people loudly spouting off about their political opinions on the job. She wants more depth when she watches the news. Much of what she sees is one-sided and shallow, she said.

“You get a story but only part of a story,” Kendrick said. “It would be nice if you could get both sides, and more research.”

Aunallah, similarly, is looking for more depth and variety. He’s not interested “in watching the angry man on the corner yelling at me anymore,” he said.

“It’s kind of their own fault that I’m not watching,” he said. “I felt they spent all this time talking about the election. They made it so much of their focus that when the main event ends, why would people want to keep watching?”

The poll of 1,251  adults was conducted Dec. 5-9, 2024, using a sample drawn from NORC’s probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. population. The margin of sampling error for adults overall is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

According to a recent AP-NORC poll, Americans are increasingly tuning out of political news. With the constant stream of divisive and sensationalized headlines dominating the media landscape, many Americans are feeling overwhelmed and disillusioned by the state of politics.

The poll found that only 30% of Americans say they follow political news closely, a significant drop from previous years. This trend is particularly pronounced among younger generations, with only 18% of adults under 30 reporting that they closely follow political news.

The reasons for this disengagement are varied, with many citing feelings of frustration, fatigue, and a lack of trust in the media. The constant barrage of negative news and partisan bickering has left many feeling disheartened and disconnected from the political process.

As the 2022 midterm elections approach, this trend of disengagement poses a challenge for political leaders and news organizations looking to engage and inform the public. It’s clear that a new approach is needed to re-engage Americans and restore trust in the political system.
