Georgia finishes sixth in nation after CFP Quarterfinal loss
The final AP Poll of the season is out, and Georgia will finish 2024 ranked No. 6. After claiming the College Football Playoff National Championship last night with a win over Notre Dame, Ohio State comes in atop the rankings according to the 56 voters with the Irish just behind them at No. 2. Semifinalists Texas and Penn State are ranked No. 4 and No. 5 respectively with Oregon, which went unbeaten up until the Playoffs, sandwiched in between at No. 3.
Georgia’s ranking outside the top 5 is a first since 2020, hoisting the National Championship trophy on the final Monday night of the season in 2021 and 2022 before impressively dominating Florida State to finish as the first non-Playoff team in last year’s final AP Poll. Under Kirby Smart’s direction, the Bulldogs have finished outside the top-10 just once – 2016, Smart’s first season in Athens.
It’s now officially the offseason in College Football, which has been the case at Georgia for a few weeks now. UGA saw its season come to an end on January 2nd in New Orleans at the hands of Notre Dame. Gunner Stockton made his first career start in place of an injured Carson Beck, and the Bulldogs just couldn’t quite do enough around him to help. A pair of first half turnovers proved costly as Notre Dame scored its only offensive touchdown of the game when given the short field just before the halftime break. Then, when the Irish returned the opening kickoff for a 98-yard touchdown, Georgia found itself trailing by three scores, 20-3.
Stockton, who enters 2025 as the expected starter for Georgia, finished the game throwing for 234 yards and a 32-yard touchdown completion on 20-of-32 passing. The Bulldogs out-gained Notre Dame, but it was Riley Leonard (15-of-24, 90 passing yards, 1 touchdown, 14 attempts, 90 rushing yards) and the squad from South Bend that advanced to play Penn State in the Orange Bowl.
Since then, Georgia’s roster for next season has shaped up. Guys like Trevor Etienne, Tate Ratledge, Mykel Williams, Jalon Walker and Malaki Starks announced intentions to enter the NFL Draft. Carson Beck, after doing the same prior to the Sugar Bowl, surprisingly entered the transfer portal and decided on Miami as his next destination. He’s one of 12 players from this season’s team to do so.
It hasn’t been all bad news though for the Bulldogs. Georgia did get back the likes of Dillon Bell, Oscar Delp, Daylen Everette and Christen Miller – each of whom announced they would return for their fourth season in Athens. Transfer portal additions have included former five-star Zachariah Branch (USC), a proven SEC pass catcher Noah Thomas (Texas A&M) and an interesting trio of in the secondary (Zion Branch – USC, Jaden Harris – Miami, Adrian Maddox – UAB).
Georgia is considered to be a top-5 team by ESPN, Sporting News and Athlon Sports in each publication’s respective way-too-early preseason rankings for 2025 with a win total over/under set at 9.5 by FanDuel.
The Georgia Bulldogs put up a valiant fight in the College Football Playoff Quarterfinals, but ultimately fell short against their opponents. Despite the tough loss, Georgia finishes the season strong, claiming the sixth spot in the nation. The team showcased their talent and determination throughout the season, earning them a well-deserved spot among the top teams in the country. Congratulations to the Bulldogs on a successful season and we look forward to seeing what they will accomplish next year. Go Dawgs! #GeorgiaFootball #CFPQuarterfinals #TopSixFinish

Alabama finishes 2024 season with lowest Associated Press poll ranking since 2007
Alabama was ranked No. 17 in the final Associated Press football poll published Tuesday after Ohio State’s national championship game win over Notre Dame.
The Tide fell six spots from its previous AP poll ranking of No. 11 before the start of the College Football Playoff. Alabama lost the ReliaQuest Bowl to Michigan last month.
The final ranking is Alabama’s lowest in an AP poll since 2007, when Alabama finished the season unranked.

The Alabama Crimson Tide, a perennial powerhouse in college football, has finished the 2024 season with their lowest Associated Press poll ranking since 2007. After a disappointing season that saw them fall short of their championship aspirations, Alabama ended the season ranked outside of the top 10 for the first time in over a decade.Despite high expectations coming into the season, the Crimson Tide struggled to find their rhythm on both sides of the ball. Their offense sputtered at times, while their defense failed to live up to their usual standards. Injuries to key players also hampered their performance throughout the season.
Head coach Nick Saban, who has led Alabama to numerous national championships, now faces questions about the future of the program. With a talented roster and a track record of success, many fans and analysts are wondering what went wrong this season and how the team can bounce back in the future.
As Alabama looks ahead to the offseason and prepares for the next season, they will need to make adjustments and improvements in order to regain their status as one of college football’s elite teams. Only time will tell if they can rise back to the top of the rankings and compete for another national title.

ESPN analyst and The Pivot Podcast co-host Ryan Clark can brag for days about his list of accomplishments in the sports world.
Clark entered the NFL in 2002 as an undrafted free agent, becoming one of the most decorated and respected safeties of his generation under unfavorable circumstances.
The ESPN First Take guest-host bounced from the New York Giants to the Washington Redskins in his earliest seasons before finally finding a home as a Pittsburgh Steeler. He played eight seasons alongside Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Polamalu — and went through some very challenging times. In 2007, Clark had to get his gall bladder and spleen removed after playing in a road game against the Denver Broncos. Because he has sickle cell trait, Denver’s high altitude caused splenic syndrome and forced him to miss the remainder of the season.
What Clark did upon his return to the NFL is nothing short of a miracle.
Clark went on to become one of the hardest-hitting defensive backs in league history, often referencing his large amount of appearances in the NFL’s “what not to do” video following the introduction of targeting rules in 2018. He won Super Bowl XLIII as a Steeler and was named to the 2011 Pro Bowl squad. He retired from the NFL in 2015 and immediately began an unprecedented run in the media industry as he now appears as a regular NFL analyst on multiple ESPN shows, a co-host on Inside the NFL and has one of the most popular sports podcasts in the world in The Pivot.
Ryan Clark’s Son Gets His Moment
At only 45 years old, it almost seems as if there is nothing that could outdo Clark’s illustrious sports career; however, on Monday night, he’ll have his proudest sports moment: watching his son play for a college football national championship.
Jordan Clark is a graduate transfer defensive back for Notre Dame. He totaled 33 tackles, five passes defended and an interception this season in Notre Dame’s complex rotation. He has made a significant impact during the College Football Playoff, racking up five tackles in the Fighting Irish’s first-round win over Indiana and defending passes in the victories over Georgia and Penn State to advance to the national championship.
Ryan Clark told TMZ Sports watching his son play in the College Football Playoff National Championship will be the biggest football moment in his family’s life.
“For me, it will be a lot of anxiousness, nervousness, for however long that game lasts, but more than anything, pride,” Clark said. “I’m just proud of what he’s able to accomplish.”
Jordan Clark Spent 5 Years At ASU
This season was a major change of pace for the graduate student after spending five years at Arizona State during some tumultuous years.
Jordan signed to the Sun Devils in 2019, joining Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels under head coach Herm Edwards. The younger Clark saw some good times in Tempe, helping ASU to two 8-5 seasons from 2019-2021 and appearing in two bowl games before chaos broke loose.
The defensive back battled through the transfer of his friend Daniels to LSU and the scandal and firing of Edwards in 2022, electing to stay at ASU in 2023 under current head coach Kenny Dillingham. He was an integral part of the Sun Devils’ secondary under Dillingham, doing enough to earn the respect and appreciation of Notre Dame and its head coach Marcus Freeman. He recorded 139 total tackles, 17 passes defended, three interceptions and a pick six in five seasons as a Sun Devil.
Despite leaving Arizona State, the Clark family never stopped showing love to the Sun Devils. Clark went to bat for ASU with ESPN analyst Elle Duncan and two-time college football national champion Cam Newton ahead of the playoffs as the pair made claims that ASU wouldn’t make for a good show in the playoffs. After Arizona State took Texas to two extra periods in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl — the most electric game of the College Football Playoff — Clark quoted the video, praising Dillingham on X.
“Always gonna show love! (Dillingham) just gets it. Did something for my son I can never repay,” Clark tweeted.
Always gonna show @KennyDillingham love! Dude just gets it. Did something for my son I can never repay.
And you already know how I feel about @camskattebo5. https://t.co/joAkYEc7YP
— Ryan Clark (@Realrclark25) January 2, 2025
Clark posted a heartfelt tweet on Monday ahead of the game, reminiscing on a significant moment through his son’s recruitment and recognizing his dedication to the sport. The tweet, which includes a snippet of Clark from a Pivot Podcast episode, talks about his son’s appreciation for ASU and how hard it was to leave, being one of the few schools that took a chance on him.
“He didn’t want to leave ASU because he felt a loyalty to that school because he felt like, ‘They recruited me, when some of these other people didn’t think I was good enough to be recruited,’” Clark said. “And I had to convince him, it’s a testament to what you’ve done, the way you’ve grown, the way you worked, that these schools now want you to go there.”
“You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be you… and that’s enough”
I’ll never forget leaving Penn State after a High School football camp, & Jordan telling me, “I had to be perfect & I wasn’t”. I was sad because that was the level of pressure he felt while working… pic.twitter.com/FJzGmApDl3
— Ryan Clark (@Realrclark25) January 20, 2025
It’s a full circle moment for Clark, who hasn’t been shy about sharing his childhood dream of playing at Notre Dame being fulfilled by his son. Beyond his son wearing the colors he once hoped to don, there is nothing that rivals getting the opportunity to watch his child play on college football’s biggest stage.
“Played in two Super Bowls, won two AFC Championships, won a Super Bowl, never shed a tear. More than anything, I was just relieved it was over,” Clark said. “When I hugged him after the Sugar Bowl … I couldn’t fight back the tears, just to see him so excited and so happy (about) the journey he was going on.”
More Arizona State & Big 12 Analysis
Former Arizona State star, Jayden Daniels, capped off his college football career in style by leading his team to the College Football Playoff National Championship game. Daniels, who was a standout quarterback for the Sun Devils, showcased his talent and leadership on the biggest stage in college football.Despite facing tough competition, Daniels showed poise and determination throughout the playoff run, leading his team to thrilling victories along the way. His performance in the championship game was nothing short of spectacular, as he threw for over 300 yards and several touchdowns, solidifying his place as one of the top quarterbacks in the country.
Although his team ultimately fell short in the championship game, Daniels’ legacy as a top-tier college football player is secure. His time at Arizona State was marked by numerous accolades and accomplishments, and his impact on the program will be felt for years to come.
As he transitions to the next chapter of his football career, whether it be in the NFL or elsewhere, Jayden Daniels will always be remembered as a former Arizona State star who shined bright on the national stage. Congratulations on a remarkable college career, Jayden!

Brown was the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur medalist, firing rounds of 66-68 (134) at Oakland Hills Country Club in Detroit to join Woods and Clampett as the only players to medal at both the U.S. Junior and the U.S. Amateur.

Chiefs’ Travis Kelce finishes 1st in Pro Bowl Games fan voting
Travis Kelce led all players in fan balloting for the 2025 Pro Bowl Games.
The Kansas City Chiefs‘ star tight end finished with 252,200 votes. Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift has significantly increased his popularity.
The NFL uses voting from fans, players and coaches to determine the Pro Bowl Games rosters, with each group’s tally accounting for one-third toward the selections.
The AFC and NFC rosters will be announced Thursday morning.
Kelce, a four-time All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowl pick, has 97 catches for 823 yards and three touchdowns this season. He’s third behind Las Vegas Raiders rookie Brock Bowers (108) and the Arizona Cardinals‘ Trey McBride (101) for most receptions among tight ends.
Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs (250,082 votes) ranked second overall behind Kelce, ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles‘ Saquon Barkley, who is 101 yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record.
Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels (242,352), Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (239,526) and Lions quarterback Jared Goff (225,858) rounded out the top five.
This is the third year of the Pro Bowl Games after the NFL eliminated its full-contact all-star contest and replaced it with weeklong skills competitions and a flag football game.
The games will take place in Central Florida and finish with a 7-on-7 flag football game between the AFC and NFC at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Feb. 2.
Retired Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning will be back as head coaches for the two conferences.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
