Moise Kean’s acrobatic volley and Albert Gudmundsson against his old club gave Fiorentina a morale-boosting victory over Patrick Vieira’s Genoa.
The Viola ended their crisis with a 2-1 victory away to Lazio, but Yacine Adli was sent off in that game and therefore suspended along with coach Raffaele Palladino. Danilo Cataldi, new signing Pablo Mari and Edoardo Bove were out of action, but Albert Gudmundsson faced his former club. Genoa missed Mattia Bani, Alessandro Zanoli, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Honest Ahanor and continued to freeze out Mario Balotelli.
See how it unfolded on the Liveblog.
There was controversy in the opening minutes, as Dodo went down when Morten Frendrup fell with a handful of his jersey, but following a VAR On-Field Review, the referee awarded the foul against the Fiorentina man.
The Viola did break the deadlock with a spectacular finish from Kean, as Rolando Mandragora stood up a free kick and the striker waited for it to drop over his shoulder, scoring with an acrobatic flick off the outside of the right boot as he twirled from 10 yards.
Gudmundsson was facing his former club and added a second goal, his splendid first touch with the inside of the right boot on a Robin Gosens roll across setting it up to fire in with his left, aided by a slight deflection.
Maxwell Cornet should’ve got one back for Genoa when sent through by Morten Thorsby, but ballooned over with the left foot as David De Gea came rushing out.
The second half was delayed by an injury to one of the assistant referees, who was replaced by fourth official Santoro.

(Photo by Gabriele Maltinti/Getty Images) Genoa got back into the game, as Koni De Winter was allowed a free header from six yards on the Aaron Martin corner kick.
Just as the visitors were pouring forward, they risked conceding at the other end, Johan Vasquez clearing the Dodo header off the line after Nicola Leali flapped at a Gosens cross.
Genoa almost scored a replica of their first goal, as De Winter had another free header on Martin’s corner, but this time De Gea managed to make the desperate one-handed reaction save to secure the Fiorentina victory.

In a thrilling Serie A match between Fiorentina and Genoa, Moise Kean’s acrobatic goal proved to be the difference as Fiorentina emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Genoa. The match started off with both teams looking to assert their dominance, but it was Fiorentina who struck first with a goal from Dusan Vlahovic in the 26th minute. Genoa fought back and equalized just before halftime through a goal from Gianluca Scamacca.
As the second half progressed, both teams pushed for the winning goal, but it was Kean who stole the show with a spectacular acrobatic finish in the 78th minute. The young forward showcased his incredible athleticism and skill as he leaped into the air to meet a cross and volleyed the ball past the Genoa goalkeeper.
Vieira’s side tried to find an equalizer in the closing stages of the match, but Fiorentina’s defense held firm to secure all three points. The victory moves Fiorentina up the Serie A table, while Genoa will be left disappointed with the result.
Overall, it was a thrilling match that showcased the talent and excitement of Serie A football. Kean’s magic was the difference-maker, and Fiorentina will be hoping for more of the same in their upcoming matches.

#Serie #Fiorentina #Genoa #Acrobatic #Kean #magic #sinks #VieiraGud and Beltran next to Kean. Fiorentina with the quality formula. And with the Champions League in their sights
Florence, 2 February 2025 – It is a mistake to trust and above all to underestimate Genoa. It is a mistake to let yourself be carried away and involved by the flash of the market that in these hours could improve the quality (and ambitions) of the Fiorentina.
So the Viola Sunday will be lived on a double pitch, a double track between business in progress and – indeed – the result to be achieved against Genoa to follow up on the coup at Lazio’s home seven days ago, to restart the prospect of the Champions area and live with a little less apprehension the one-two against Inter that will take place between next Thursday and Monday.
Yes, Genoa. A tough team, very different (since Vieira has been leading it) compared to the fragile one faced in the first leg, but that said, Palladino (in the stands to serve the disqualification round) does not give himself excuses and wants to win. Period. Hence the choice to get the best and the most from that offensive axis invented in Rome and to focus strongly on the attacking trio composed of Kean with the support of the ideas and class of Gud and above all Beltran.
It is with these players – waiting (and we return to the other field) for the solutions that the market will bring – that Fiorentina has the opportunity to climb the rankings of a season that can give satisfaction. The tactical transformation against Lazio (a basic module, the 4-2-3-1, remodeled and remodelable in real time, even minute by minute) is in fact the solution that Palladino intends to re-present with Genoa. Then… then, we will see because the difference will be made by the grafts of the business of these hours.
Kean, Gud and Beltran, but not only them. Here Fiorentina-Genoa will be the occasion to measure once again the great (and decisive) versatility of Folorunsho. First winger, then mezzala, then connecting midfielder and today – thanks to the absences of Adli and Cataldi – almost certainly a midfielder suited to closing down, covering and counter-attacking.
Fiorentina-Genoa as a starter for the restart towards the Champions League and with the enthusiasm that Commisso also wanted to relaunch in his contact from the United States. Because the standings continue to say this, keeping the finish line more than alive of the Europa League but also giving a glimpse of the Champions League.
Beating Genoa would mean having seen a mature and concrete team again, different from the one that struggled in six games in a row that yielded just two points. Palladino has everyone’s trust. But especially that of Commisso. Palladino wants to run and dream. Florence and Fiorentina know this.
Fiorentina fans have plenty to be excited about as their team continues to strengthen with the addition of young talents Gud and Beltran next to the experienced Kean. The trio forms a powerful attacking force that has the potential to take the Serie A by storm. With a blend of youth and experience, Fiorentina’s quality formula is proving to be a winning combination on the pitch. Gud and Beltran bring creativity and flair, while Kean adds a lethal finishing touch to the team’s attacking play.
As Fiorentina sets their sights on Champions League qualification, fans can look forward to seeing their team compete against Europe’s elite. With a talented squad and a winning mentality, the Viola are ready to take on the biggest clubs in the continent and make a name for themselves on the grand stage.
So, keep an eye on Fiorentina this season as they aim to achieve their goals with Gud and Beltran leading the charge alongside Kean. It’s going to be an exciting journey for the Viola as they push for success in both Serie A and the Champions League.

Fantastic Fiorentina keep pace with Serie A’s top four after downing Genoa
Fiorentina ended a three-game winless run at Stadio Artemio Franchi with a 2-1 win against Genoa in Serie A, a result which extends their remarkable unbeaten run in home meetings with their opponents to 27 matches.
The hosts started strongly and had a penalty shout inside the early stages – Morten Frendrup’s tug on Dodo’s shirt was enough for the VAR to send the on-field referee to the monitor, but he defied common precedent and stuck with his original decision.
La Viola were not disappointed for long though, as Moise Kean produced a wonderful, distinctive flick towards goal that found its way into the net on nine minutes.
Connecting with Rolando Mandragora’s free-kick, the striker netted his 13th league goal this season to stay very much in the Golden Boot race, with only one player having managed more in SA this term.
On the half-hour mark, Fiorentina doubled their lead through ex-Genoa player Albert Gudmundsson, whose shot deflected in after he connected with Robin Gosens’ cross.
The visitors really ought to have pulled one back before half-time though, as Maxwel Cornet could only curl over the bar from such a promising position after being fed through by Morten Thorsby.
Just 10 minutes into the second half, Genoa pulled a goal back through Koni De Winter, as he headed home Aaron Martin’s corner.
The visitors pushed for a swift second as the pendulum started to swing in their favour, but Fabio Miretti’s strike from the edge of the box flew just past the near post.
Despite being pegged back, Fiorentina were still dangerous on the counter as Gosens bombed forward again and unleashed a great cross to find Dodo, whose header was blocked on the line by Johan Vasquez.
Down the other end, De Winter almost netted his brace after connecting with another corner, but this time his header was pushed away by David de Gea.
Genoa’s late push for an equaliser was ultimately not enough, as they fell to just a second defeat in six league places, keeping them in 12th place in the table while Fiorentina rise into the top-five, just a point adrift of Juventus in fourth having played a game fewer.
Key match statsOpta by StatsPerform Flashscore Man of the Match: Robin Gosens (Fiorentina)
Fiorentina continued their impressive run in Serie A with a convincing 3-0 victory over Genoa, keeping pace with the league’s top four teams. The Viola put on a dominant display from start to finish, with goals from Dusan Vlahovic, Gaetano Castrovilli, and Nikola Milenkovic securing the win. The team’s attacking prowess was on full display, as they created numerous chances and capitalized on their opportunities.
Fiorentina’s strong defensive performance also played a key role in the victory, as they limited Genoa’s scoring opportunities and kept a clean sheet.
With this win, Fiorentina now sit comfortably in fifth place in the Serie A standings, just behind the top four teams. Their impressive form and consistent performances have made them a serious contender for a spot in Europe next season.
Fans of the Viola will be thrilled with their team’s performance and will be eagerly anticipating their next match as they continue their push for a top-four finish. Fantastic Fiorentina indeed!

Preview: Lazio vs. Fiorentina – prediction, team news, lineups
Sports Mole previews Sunday’s Serie A clash between Lazio and Fiorentina, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
After back-to-back wins kept them fourth in Serie A and ensured progress in Europe, Lazio will host faltering Fiorentina on Sunday.
The Biancocelesti swept past Hellas Verona before slaying 10-man opponents to stay top of the Europa League, but their Tuscan counterparts still await a first win of 2025.

Their knockout place already confirmed with two rounds remaining, Europa League leaders Lazio welcomed Real Sociedad to Stadio Olimpico on Thursday evening, when direct entry to the last 16 was safely secured.
Mario Gila‘s early goal had put the Rome club on course for victory before their Basque visitors were reduced to 10 men, and further strikes from captain Mattia Zaccagni and top scorer Taty Castellanos wrapped up a 3-1 win.
Still unbeaten in continental competition, the Biancocelesti top the standings by three points, meaning they can afford to take their foot off the gas in next week’s league-phase finale, away to Braga.
A few days earlier, Lazio had put three past Verona at Stadio Bentegodi, with Zaccagni finding the net against his old club, so they can now target their first consecutive Serie A wins since November.
Marco Baroni‘s men had been on the fringes of title contention until suffering a dip last month – most notably losing the Derby della Capitale to arch-rivals Roma – and they have taken just one point from their last three league games at the Olimpico.
Nonetheless, they are still very much in the mix for Champions League qualification, while a meeting with Inter Milan awaits in February’s Coppa Italia quarter-finals.
With no losses and six wins from their last eight home games against Fiorentina, precedent also suggests that they can prevail again this weekend.

However, the visitors will have other plans, as after a 2-1 win in September’s reverse fixture, Fiorentina could finally do the double over Lazio for the first time since 2013.
Recent results indicate they face an uphill struggle, as head coach Raffaele Palladino has seen his team’s form nosedive over the past few weeks.
Although star striker Moise Kean gave Fiorentina the lead against 10-man Torino last time out, they failed to hold on and end a worrying winless streak – despite playing for nearly an hour with one extra player.
Following a disappointing 1-1 home draw, the Tuscan club have won none of their last six league games, equalling their worst such streak since late 2020.
The Viola’s mid-season slump has also featured defeat to rock-bottom Monza, plus a three-goal beating by Napoli, leaving them sixth in Serie A – now six points adrift of Lazio.
Already out of the Coppa Italia, and with the Conference League on hiatus, they must now try to turn things around in Italy’s top flight, but a tough test awaits on Sunday.

Lazio may make a handful of changes to the team that started against Real Sociedad, with Ivan Provedel set to replace cup goalkeeper Christos Mandas.
Samuel Gigot and Luca Pellegrini will both return from suspension, and the latter could fill in at left-back if assist specialist Nuno Tavares fails to recover from a knee injury.
Manuel Lazzari, Patric and Matias Vecino are still sidelined by muscular problems, but new signing Arijon Ibrahimovic should start on the bench.
Taty Castellanos and Boulaye Dia – the latter of whom has scored in his last two league games and has previously netted a hat-trick against Fiorentina – usually join forces up front, while Moise Kean leads the Viola’s attack.
Kean is just one goal shy of equalling his best-ever league tally of 13, for Paris Saint-Germain in 2020-21; incidentally, nine of his dozen Serie A strikes so far have come during the first half.
Fiorentina’s only fitness concerns are Andrea Colpani (ankle) and Danilo Cataldi (thigh). If the latter cannot start, then Amir Richardson, Rolando Mandragora and recent arrival Michael Folorunsho – a boyhood Lazio fan – will compete to partner Yacine Adli in midfield.
Italy Under-21s right-back Michael Kayode has just joined Brentford on loan, but Dodo is Raffaele Palladino’s first choice in any case.
Lazio possible starting lineup:
Provedel; Marusic, Romagnoli, Gila, Pellegrini; Rovella, Guendouzi; Isaksen, Dia, Zaccagni; CastellanosFiorentina possible starting lineup:
De Gea; Dodo, Pongracic, Ranieri, Gosens; Adli, Mandragora; Gudmundsson, Folorunsho, Sottil; Kean
We say: Lazio 2-1 Fiorentina
As well as being imperious in Europe, Lazio have lost just once as hosts all season, so an off-colour Fiorentina team are unlikely to defeat them.
The Biancocelesti have also scored the most goals during the last 15 minutes in Serie A – 13 so far – meaning they will fight right through to the final whistle.

#Preview #Lazio #Fiorentina #prediction #team #news #lineupsWhy McKennie will play instead of Cambiaso in Juventus vs Fiorentina contest
Weston McKennie is once again expected to start at left-back as Juventus take on Fiorentina on Sunday evening at the Allianz Stadium.
The American has been showcasing his exceptional versatility by playing almost everywhere on the pitch this season. The 26-year-old is originally a central midfielder who operates as a box-to-box player, but he also featured as an attacking midfielder, a winger, a centre-forward (when Dusan Vlahovic was absent against Milan), a right-back, and most recently a left-back.
The former Schalke was first deployed on the left side of the defense due to an emergency that saw all natural options missing through injuries (Juan Cabal, Andrea Cambiaso and Jonas Rouhi), while Danilo had to cover elsewhere.
Nevertheless, McKennie managed to excel in this role, proving to be a natural fit thanks to his defensively sound displays and ability to support the attacks with his overlaps.
But with Cambiaso returning to the fold, Motta was expected to welcome back his beloved player with open arms, trusting him with an immediate starting spot. But on the contrary, all sources are reporting that McKennie will be the one starting on the left side against Fiorentina, with Cambiaso’s name nowhere to be seen in the expected starting lineup.
So what’s behind Motta’s curious decision?
According to IlBianconero, Cambiaso isn’t suffering from any physical issues and is fully fit to play. However, the Juventus manager has decided to make the choice for technical reasons, as he’s interested in seeing more of McKennie at left-back, as this could emerge as a long-term solution.
If the Texan continues to shine in this role, perhaps Juventus won’t need a new full-back in January, so Cristiano Giuntoli and Co. can instead focus on their quest to sign a central defender, and potentially a new striker.
There has been much speculation surrounding who will start in midfield for Juventus in their upcoming match against Fiorentina, with many fans debating whether Weston McKennie or Rodrigo Bentancur will get the nod over veteran playmaker Juan Cuadrado. However, it is becoming increasingly likely that McKennie will get the start ahead of Cuadrado for this crucial Serie A clash. One of the main reasons why McKennie is expected to start over Cuadrado is his impressive form in recent matches. The American midfielder has been in fine form for Juventus, showcasing his ability to break up play, drive forward with the ball, and contribute to the team’s attacking play. McKennie’s energy and physicality in midfield could prove to be vital against Fiorentina, who boast a strong midfield themselves.
Another reason why McKennie may be favored over Cuadrado is his versatility. McKennie is capable of playing in a number of different positions in midfield, allowing him to adapt to different tactical setups and provide more options for Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri. Cuadrado, on the other hand, is more of a traditional playmaker and may struggle to keep up with Fiorentina’s high press.
Lastly, McKennie’s work rate and defensive contributions could be crucial in helping Juventus secure a vital victory against Fiorentina. His ability to track back, win duels, and provide cover for the defense could prove to be invaluable in a match where every point is crucial in the title race.
Overall, while Cuadrado is a seasoned veteran with immense quality, it seems that McKennie’s recent form, versatility, and work rate make him the more likely candidate to start in midfield for Juventus against Fiorentina. Fans will have to wait and see if Allegri ultimately chooses McKennie over Cuadrado, but all signs point to the American midfielder getting the nod in this important contest.
