A large crowd of people packed the Embarcadero for the annual fireworks show at the stroke of midnight.
The fireworks was launched from a barge stationed between the Ferry Building and the Bay Bridge.
It’s a 15-minute display that the producer said is a special show just for the City by the Bay.
At lunchtime, the California Hornblower steam boat was already making it’s New Year’s Eve lunch run. It will be cruising just before midnight as well.
Outside Chase Center at midday, some people had their own 2025 countdown for what organizers called a celebration for those who don’t plan on staying up until midnight.
Later Tuesday night, a large crowd gathered as they were waiting to watch the show. It also meant business along the Embarcadero were selling all kinds of sparkly New Year’s Eve.
“I’m selling balloons, lights, teddy bears for the girls for the people in love so they can enter the new year with a good partner and love,” said street vendor Omar Gonzalez.
“We’re really excited for the new year-it seems there’s more movement downtown and we’re hoping it’s looking up,” said Jacob Paronyan, General manager of Boulevard Restaurant.
For those who got a window seat at Boulevard, they had a great view of those fireworks at midnight.
“What we love about this place in San Francisco. It is San Francisco and San Francisco is on its way back and we’re looking forward to a great 2025,” said Jeff Stack of San Francisco.
From San Francisco to San Jose, the Bay Area is gearing up to kick off 2025 with a bang. Terry McSweeney and Jocelyn Moran report.

Coloradans are preparing to ring in 2025 with firework displays from the Front Range to the western slope. We compiled a list of events happening around the state.
Aspen fireworks
Aspen Mountain will host a firework display at 8 p.m.
Breckenridge fireworks
Breckenridge Ski Resort will be hosting a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. from the base of Peak 9. This will be the first time the resort has hosted a fireworks show on New Year’s Eve in over five years. In 2019, the town council of Breckenridge passed an indefinite ban on fireworks to align with safe environmental practices. The council members later decided to lift the ban to bolster support for local businesses.
Colorado Springs fireworks
Colorado Springs might have the most unique and oldest New Year’s Eve fireworks tradition in the state. For the last century, a group of mountaineers with the AdAmAn Club have hiked up Pikes Peak on New Year’s Eve to set off fireworks from the summit at midnight. The display is visible for a host of surrounding towns — like Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs — to enjoy.
Reverend David Hunting, a longtime member of the club, said the fireworks this year are extra special. Earlier this year, 25-year-old Luke Stark, a newer member of the club, was tragically killed in a car accident. So this year, his younger sister, Rachel Stark, is leading the hike of 31 people to the summit, along with their father, Lance Stark.
“This is the very first time that the AdAmAn Club has posthumously honored a person like this for this year’s hike,” said Hunting.
Copper Mountain fireworks
A fireworks show will take place at Center Village at Copper Mountain Ski Resort at 10 p.m. The show is free for spectators.
Denver fireworks
Denver will host two fireworks shows this New Year’s Eve.
One will be at Civic Center Park and the other at 16th Street Mall. Each location will feature a pair of fireworks shows: one at 9 p.m. and the second at midnight. Each of the shows will last about 10 minutes.
According to organizers, while the fireworks can be viewed from most areas around the city, admission is free for those who want to view the show up close. Spectators can view the show from the Mile High Tree at Civic Center Park or the Skyline Skating Rink on 16th Street Mall.
The organizers said that the shows will go on regardless of inclement weather, like rain or snow. Neither are in the forecast.
“Fireworks look really pretty with snow in the background,” said Sharon Alton, one of the event organizers.
According to Alton, the only reason the shows would be postponed would be due to high winds, which are unlikely tonight.
A fireworks show will happen at Powderhorn Mountain Resort after the sun goes down, around 6 p.m., though the start time is subject to change. The show is free to spectators. According to organizers, the show will end with one big explosion, or as one spokesperson from Powerhorn described it, “a firework that looks like a ball of fire flying through the air.”
Grand Lake fireworks
Grand Lake will host a fireworks show at midnight. Organizers said the show can be seen over the icy lake.
Keystone fireworks
Keystone Resort will host one of the earliest fireworks shows this year. The show is set to begin at 7 p.m.
Ouray fireworks
Fireworks will begin in Ouray at midnight from the Horseshoe curve on U.S. Route 550. According to organizers, the fireworks show will be visible from almost anywhere in town.
Telluride fireworks
Fireworks in Telluride can be seen from the Mountain Village core. They are expected to start after the city’s New Year’s Eve parade, which starts at 6:30 p.m.

Final preparations are underway for tonight’s show, which will feature synchronized lighting, fireworks, and drones to help ring in the new year. Just a few minutes before midnight starting around 10:52 p.m., 500 synchronized drones will light up the sky to help count down to the new year.
Show organizers say the city and the FAA have given the go-ahead for tonight’s show at the Space Needle.
Show organizers also shared that onlookers will be kept at a safe distance from where the drones take off and land, and there’s also a large buffer zone to keep drones from straying too far if they happen to get off track.
“The Space Needle has a massive exclusion area around our building for our show, and we have for all 30 years,” Randy Cote, chief marketing officer at the Space Needle, said. “The closest the public can be to where the drones take off and land from is more than a Space Needle’s length away.”
“Drones are driven by GPS so it’s very important to have GPS communication between the drones and our operating software,” Ian Gilfillan with Pyro Spectaculars Inc., the company that produces the show, said. “The drones themselves are protected from the audience, and the audience from the drones by what we call geofencing, and that fencing is electronic places where if a drone were to get to that point, then the drone reacts to it and will retreat from it. If it goes too far, then it will shut the drone off.”
Festivities at the Space Needle kick off at 8 p.m. with live music performances followed by a light show every half hour starting at 10 p.m.
The drone show starts about eight minutes to midnight leading into the fireworks, which wraps up at about 12:10 a.m.

When many visitors to Las Vegas think of fireworks displays on New Year’s Eve, their attention turns to the nine-minute show on the Strip as the clock strikes midnight to ring in another year.
That display, in its 20th year, is a choreographed effort between nine resorts that takes planning from 71 pyrotechnicians.
However, it won’t be the only celebratory fireworks show in the Resort Corridor tonight.
The Plaza in downtown will blast fireworks from its rooftop for an eighth consecutive year, adding a punch to the party at the Fremont Street Experience.
It is the only downtown property planning for fireworks — a tradition the property embraces, said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza. The display complements everything happening downtown on New Year’s Eve, he said.
“We love fireworks. We love adding just another layer of entertainment and fun to downtown, and on New Year’s Eve, it’s a spectacle that every other major city has, every other major party has, and we wanted to join the fun in downtown Las Vegas,” Jossel said. “Downtown is fun; people come here to party, to drink, to have a good time, and fireworks go so well with that.”
Jossel decided to add a New Year’s Eve fireworks show in 2017 because the Plaza is such an iconic and visible landmark within downtown Las Vegas, so even people who live or stay outside of the area can enjoy the bright lights, he said. The resort also has a fireworks display on the Fourth of July.
The Plaza’s fireworks have become so popular that it began a series of Friday night fireworks shows during the summer in 2023. Jossel said that strategy was inspired by Disneyland, which in the summer has a pyrotechnic display daily before the amusement park closes.
Thousands of guests are expected tonight because the pyrotechnics are “synonymous with celebration … celebrating life and having fun,” Jossel said.
It takes about six to eight weeks to plan the eight-minute fireworks show for New Year’s Eve, Jossel said. The resort partners with Utah-based Lantis Fireworks and spends about $50,000, he said.
Though Jossel explained that it’s a “pretty big production” that includes securing permits, getting cleared by the fire department and preparing security, the past seven years have given them plenty of experience.
And, he stressed, “it’s a process, but it’s something that we love to do.”
Some of the best places to watch the show are on Main Street in front of the Plaza’s Carousel Bar and underneath the glass dome in Oscar’s Steakhouse, Jossel said. Jossel additionally said the heated Plaza Pool and nearby Symphony Park were also good viewing spots.
Those who are downtown but not interested in the Fremont Street Experience festivities can gather on Main Street to view the fireworks show.
But you’ll need to get to those spots early, Jossel added.
Seeing the excited faces of visitors every time the hotel puts on a fireworks show makes Jossel “want to do it again and again and again.”
The shows have become so popular that Jossel is bringing back the “Friday Fireworks” shows starting in May.
“Yes, we’re the only ones downtown doing it and yes, everyone downtown benefits from it, but that’s what’s great about it. It’s for the downtown, it’s for the community and it just adds another dimension of fun,” Jossel said. “If you’ve ever seen a Plaza fireworks show, it’s unlike any other, so come down and check it out.”
Andrew Simon, CEO of the Fremont Street Experience, said the area had “put on over 35 events, which was a record number of events for downtown Las Vegas.”
This year, they’re ringing in 2025 with the “Time of Your Life Festival 2025.”
“For New Year’s Eve, we said we have to do something bigger and better than ever,” Simon said. “We are the official party for the city of Las Vegas. We invite everybody to attend and we’re so excited at the Time of Your Life New Year’s Eve party at Fremont Street.”
Starting at 7 p.m., seven different artists will be performing at various stages under the Fremont Street Experience’s canopy, including rapper Flo Rida and country singer-songwriter Dylan Marlowe, to name a few. Mayor Shelley Berkley will participate in the countdown to a new year.
Visitors can purchase tickets for $50 to go inside the Fremont Street Experience for the New Year’s Eve party.

Aside from Millie Bobby Brown having her last day as Eleven on the set of Stranger Things Season 5 in 2024, the actress also had a big year on the personal front by getting married to Jake Bongiovi in the spring. With a new year on the horizon, Brown took the time to share some videos from her 2024, and there’s a lot of BTS about her wedding festivities.
In a reel on Instagram, Millie Bobby Brown wrote “the year of mrs. bongiovi” with a load of clips from her 2024. The actress looks like she had an absolute blast living life in her 20th year on Earth, but her sneak peeks into her wedding activities are major highlights. For example, take a look at this unique (and very vintage-looking) wedding dress it looks like she tried on ahead of saying “I do.”
Brown and her man celebrated three years as a couple just a couple of months before reportedly making their union official in a private ceremony on May 27, 2024. Per this video, it looks like there was a lot involved when it comes to becoming Mrs. Bongiovi, and why not! For example, considering Brown is wearing white below, it looks like perhaps she had a fun karaoke night (maybe during her bachelorette party?) as well.
Along with that, we also noticed a moment in the montage where Brown and her partner let a pair of doves free while on some sort of boat or yacht this year as well. It wasn’t while they were wearing their wedding attire, so it was likely a completely different event for the couple.
A lot of thought seems to have gone into these two making their marriage official over the past year. Perhaps the most jawdropping of all the clips is seeing the couple on their wedding day gazing upon their own personal firework show. How magical is that?
They reportedly got married in Italy, so we imagine the couple made a whole romantic vacation out of the occasion and these videos give us more details about it.
