  • Cold-weather shelter in Bunnell to once again warm Flagler residents


    The Flagler County Government Services Building in Bunnell.

    The Sheltering Tree in Bunnell will continue to open its doors to Flagler County residents without heat over the next few nights.

    With the National Weather Service predicting overnight temperatures to plummet into the high 30s, low 40s overnight across the area, the county’s designated cold-weather shelter will activate its operations for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings.

    The facility, at 2200 N. State St. in Bunnell, opens at the Rock Transformation Center (formerly Church on the Rock) at 5 p.m. and closes at 8 a.m. the following day. Hot meals and cots are available during shelter hours.

    “We are grateful for our many teams of volunteers,” said Sue Bickings, chairperson of the Sheltering Tree. “It’s a commitment and we’ve already been open 16 nights this season.”



    With the winter season approaching, many Flagler County residents are facing the harsh reality of not having a warm place to stay during cold nights. However, there is hope on the horizon as a cold-weather shelter is set to open in Bunnell once again to provide relief for those in need.
