Mathys Tel transfer: Bayern Munich forward on his way to England to seal Tottenham move | Football News
Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel has landed in England ahead of a proposed move to Tottenham.
Tel’s agent has posted an image on Instagram of the Bayern Munich teenager aboard a private plane heading for London, and the 19-year-old has landed at Farnborough Airport.
Sky Sports News understands the structure of the deal is still being negotiated between the clubs.
Bayern are understood to prefer a permanent deal or a loan which includes an obligation to buy.
Tel turned down the chance to sign for Tottenham earlier this week after the clubs had agreed a £50m deal.
But in a massive U-turn, Tel has changed his mind after a long conversation with Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou on how he will be used.
Tel has been in demand this window with Manchester United and Arsenal also showing interest in the France U21 international.
‘Tel has changed his mind – his plane is heading to London!’
SSN reporter Michael Bridge:
“We say never say never on Deadline Day but Tel has done a U-turn and has said ‘yes’ to Tottenham. Incredible news.
“There are reports there are no obligations or options to buy but what we do know – and there is a picture of Tel and his agent on a plane – the plane looks like it is going to London and not Manchester.
“Huge news. Tel has changed his mind…”
Analysis: Why Tel is in demand
Sky Sports’ Nick Wright:
Tel has been a peripheral figure for Bayern Munich this season, playing only 344 minutes across their Bundesliga and Champions League campaigns without scoring. But at 19, he remains a thrilling talent with plenty to offer and plenty of room for improvement.
He demonstrated his immense potential last season, contributing nine goals and six assists across the Bundesliga and Champions League, despite mostly featuring as a substitute, and averaging an eye-catching 1.15 goal involvements per 90 minutes.
Context is important, of course. Many of those substitute appearances came at points in games where Bayern were already several goals up. But his talent is not in doubt. It is what convinced Bayern to pay roughly £23m to land him at the age of only 17 in 2022.
Tel is quick, strong in the air and, crucially, an accomplished finisher. His versatility is another asset.
As shown in the graphic above, Tel’s minutes at Bayern have been split across different positions. He has played the highest share of minutes on the left, where he is able to cut in on his right foot. But he is also adept with his left foot and has been used on the right, as a central striker, and even in midfield.
He would have to adapt to new surroundings in the Premier League, of course. Hitting the ground running would be a challenge mid-season. But it is easy to understand the interest, even if he would not come cheaply to any side looking to sign him permanently.

Tennessee Football loses assistant coach to Nebraska
A much-discussed rumor has come true this Monday morning as Mike Ekeler has opted to go back to Nebraska. Tennessee’s outside linebackers and special teams coach will become Matt Rhule’s special teams coach in Lincoln.
Ekeler is originally from Nebraska and has family in the state. He previously coached at Nebraska from 2008 through 2010. He started his coaching career at the high school level in Nebraska back in 1999.
Ekeler was a part of Josh Heupel’s initial staff at Tennessee, coming to Knoxville with him in 2021. He’s best known for his Red Bull obsession, crazy-early morning marathon runs and unmatched energy on the sideline. Ekeler was alway good for a sound bite too, describing his ideal punt returner as a “fart in a skillet.”
Tennessee has replaced assistant coaches in each of Heupel’s seasons in Knoxville — Kodi Burns, Alex Golesh, Brian Jean-Mary, Jerry Mack and now Ekeler. Defensive coordinator Tim Banks was working on an expiring contract with Ekeler this season, but Banks received a new deal. Tennessee still has to come to an agreement with secondary coach Willie Martinez.
Expect analyst Levorn Harbin, better known as Coach Chop, to get consideration for the outside linebacker role.
In a surprising turn of events, Tennessee Football has lost one of its key assistant coaches to Nebraska. The departure of [Assistant Coach’s Name] comes as a blow to the Volunteers as they prepare for the upcoming season.[Assistant Coach’s Name] has been a valuable member of the Tennessee coaching staff, bringing his expertise and passion to the team. His departure leaves a void that will undoubtedly be felt by both the players and coaching staff.
Nebraska’s gain is Tennessee’s loss, as [Assistant Coach’s Name] will bring his talents to a new program. The Volunteers will have to quickly regroup and find a suitable replacement to fill the void left by his departure.
As fans of Tennessee Football, we wish [Assistant Coach’s Name] all the best in his new role at Nebraska. We will miss his contributions to the team and hope that the Volunteers can find a way to continue their success without him.

#Tennessee #Football #loses #assistant #coach #NebraskaMike Ekeler hired by Nebraska, leaves Tennessee football staff
Tennessee special teams coordinator/outside linebackers coach Mike Ekeler is leaving for Nebraska after four seasons on Josh Heupel’s staff, a source close to the situation told Knox News on Monday. The source requested anonymity because Ekeler has not indicated his plans publicly.
Ekeler, who is from David City, Nebraska, coached for the Cornhuskers in 2008-10.
He will be Nebraska’s special teams coordinator and replace Ed Foley, who was not retained after the 2024 season.
Ekeler has been one of the best special teams coordinators in college football.
In 2024, Tennessee led the SEC in punt return average for the third time in Ekeler’s four seasons. The Vols gained 1,298 punt return yards and allowed only 128 punt return yards during his tenure.

Under Ekeler’s watch, Boo Carter was also an SEC All-Freshman performer as a punt returner, and Josh Turbyville was an All-SEC third-team selection as a kickoff specialist.
Max Gilbert made 20 of 26 field goals in his first season as the primary placekicker. Punter Jackson Ross averaged a career-high 43.9 yards per punt.
Here are Josh Heupel assistants who left Tennessee
Heupel has enjoyed relative stability on his coaching staff. Ekeler is only the fifth assistant that Heupel has lost in four seasons at Tennessee, and none were fired.
After the 2021 season, UT wide receivers coach Kodi Burns left for the same position with the New Orleans Saints.
After the 2022 season, UT offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Alex Golesh left to become the head coach at South Florida. In December, he hired Burns as his new co-offensive coordinator and assistant head coach at USF.
After the 2023 season, UT running backs coach Jerry Mack took the same position with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is now the head coach at Kennesaw State.
Also after the 2023 season, linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary left to become Michigan’s defensive run game coordinator and linebackers coach.

This move marks a homecoming for Ekeler, who played linebacker for Nebraska from 1991 to 1994.
During his time with Tennessee, Ekeler made a significant impact on the team, helping to improve their special teams unit and mentoring the inside linebackers. His departure is sure to be felt by the Vols, but Nebraska fans are excited to welcome back one of their own.
As Ekeler embarks on this new chapter in his coaching career, we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors with the Cornhuskers.

#Tennessee #Special #Teams #Coordinator #Mike #Ekeler #Joining #Nebraska #FootballNico Gonzalez: Man City hopeful of completing Deadline Day signing of Porto midfielder | Football News
Manchester City are hopeful of concluding a Deadline Day deal for Porto midfielder Nico Gonzalez.
Talks were understood to be ongoing between the clubs on Monday over the transfer fee.
Sky Sports News previously reported City, who lost 5-1 to Arsenal on Sunday, do not want to meet the midfielder’s £50m release clause.
Gonzalez has been included in the Porto squad to face Rio Ave on Monday night.
Man City have already spent £130m in this transfer window, bringing in Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.
City have been exploring their options in the market for a new No 6 with former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, one of a number of midfielders they have been looking into.
However, Gonzalez could now be on his way to the Etihad Stadium as City look to continue their January spending spree.
The 23-year-old joined Barcelona’s academy in 2013 and made 27 appearances for the club before joining Porto in a deal worth €8.5m in 2023.
One element to negations is the fact Barcelona would be due 40 per cent of any fee received by Porto for the midfielder.
The Portuguese side also have the option to purchase an additional 20 at any point, reducing Barca’s cut on a possible transfer to 20 per cent.
Merson: City panicking badly on Gonzalez
Sky Sports’ Paul Merson on Deadline Day:
“I’ve not seen this lad play so don’t know too much about him. But they need players in midfield. A lot of people say it’s not just Rodri. It is just Rodri.
“Rodri sees danger, Rodri is disciplined, Rodri stays in the centre, he gets forward and sits back and protects the backline as well, and he passes the ball through the line very quickly.
“I like Mateo Kovacic, but he will go over and dribble with the ball and people end up all out of position. He and Bernardo Silva get just ruined in the last 30 minutes at Arsenal.
“If you take away the 30 minutes and first 20, City were very good at Arsenal. It was a good away performance. But that takes away the first 20 minutes when they could have been out of the game, and the last 30 minutes – so it’s not much in between that.
“The issue is that Gonzalez comes in for £50m, as soon as Rodri’s fit, that’s it. I don’t think he plays. Unless you play them together and I don’t think you need to.
“This is the problem with wages and buying players, you forget that by the start of next season, this guy is sitting on the bench with big money. You then look at James McAtee with a brilliant young future and they will have to sell him for the fair play rules. It’s a knock-on effect. If they buy Gonzalez, they must be panicking badly to get into the top four.”
Sky Sports’ Tim Sherwood on Deadline Day:
“You can’t compare the Portuguese league with the Premier League. It’s a risk, especially in January.
“What exactly are City signing Gonzalez for? Unless you’re going to bring in someone who is better than what you’ve got and will beat Real Madrid in a Champions League play-off game, other than that they’ve got nothing else to play for.
“They can’t beat Real Madrid with the midfield they had yesterday. They have to find something different to that. But are they ever going to find someone good enough to do that in this transfer market? Absolutely not.
“Douglas Luiz would be the no-risk one because he knows the Premier League, but it looks like that is not going to get done. When everyone’s fit, Gonzalez isn’t going to play and they will ship him out again.”
Or is it a perfect fit for Man City?
European football expert Kevin Hatchard on Sky Sports News:
“It’s an absolute fit, he could do a really good job for them. Pep Guardiola has been an admirer of him for some time, City have been as well.
“He’s been linked with a move to City since he was a youth player so he’s a really interesting figure who has matured at Porto. He has made some forward steps there and could be a really good player.”
Statman Dave speaking on Sky Sports News:
“He fits in perfectly. He came in through the Barcelona youth academy and is tall. He does remind me a little bit of Rodri, there’s a likeness there in terms of his size and his command of the ball.
“Yes, there’s a lot of work to do with him but you think of getting another body in defensive midfield – City need that right now. We saw how bad their rest defence was against Arsenal. How many times were they caught three-on-two?
“He’s a player that can come in, play football the Guardiola way and evolve. You look at City’s window – two centre-backs, one of the best attackers in Europe in Omar Marmoush and a defensive midfielder.”
‘Negotiations tricky in City’s pursuit of Gonzalez’
Sky Sports News’ Ben Ransom at Man City’s training ground:
“He’s a player Man City really like.
“Midfield has been a problem for City this season in the absence of the injured Rodri, so Gonzalez fits the bill. He’s a player City have scouted extensively.
“Gonzalez’s dad, Fran, who was a player for Deportivo, has worked in City’s academy and City, when Nico was 14 and 16 tried to sign him twice.
“He has now impressed at Porto in the 18 months since his move from Barcelona.
“It’s the move from Barca that actually makes this move tricky because negotiations are revolving over the fee. The player has a £50m release clause and as it stands Porto want that paid in full.
“That’s due in part because Barcelona have a 40 per cent sell-on clause, so that would be quite a chunk on any potential fee.
“There’s also a second element to this deal where Porto can buy half of that fee from Barca for €6m. So, essentially, they can reduce that outlay to €18m IF City pay the full release clause.
“However, City are playing hardball. They don’t want to meet that valuation as things stand.
“This deal is a bit of a wait-and-see. One source has told me that if City do not meet the release clause the deal would be off and that would be their transfer window over.
“But this is transfer deadline day and we know money talks. The two clubs are talking so there could still be some movement.”

Manchester City are reportedly hopeful of completing a Deadline Day signing of Porto midfielder Nico Gonzalez. The 20-year-old Argentine has been on the radar of the Premier League champions for some time now, and it appears that a deal could be in the works.Gonzalez has impressed with his performances for Porto this season, showcasing his technical ability and composure on the ball. His potential has caught the eye of City’s scouts, who see him as a long-term prospect for the club.
With just hours left in the transfer window, City are working hard to finalize a deal for Gonzalez. The midfielder’s representatives are said to be in talks with the club, and there is optimism that an agreement can be reached before the deadline passes.
If the deal goes through, Gonzalez would provide City with additional depth in midfield and give manager Pep Guardiola more options in the middle of the park. His arrival would be a welcome boost for the team as they look to defend their Premier League title and compete for silverware on multiple fronts.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing transfer saga as Deadline Day unfolds. City fans will be hoping that Gonzalez arrives at the Etihad Stadium to bolster their squad for the rest of the season.

Rose Bowl, Home of UCLA Football, Hosts Free Concert for L.A. Emergency Responders
Nearly a month ago, the iconic Rose Bowl, home of UCLA football, was in danger of destruction when an evacuation order was issued during the early stage of the Los Angeles wildfires.
On Saturday, it recognized the first responders who heroically sought to tame those fires, as several artists in the music industry put on a free concert for those individuals who worked tirelessly to protect Los Angeles. Family members were also invited.
Saturday’s concert, titled “A Concert for All First Responders,” was headlined by country star Jelly Roll and also included performances from Lainey Wilson, Nate Smith, Marshmallow, Public Enemy and Shinedown.
It welcomed an audience of almost 16,000, represented by the LAPD, California Professional Fire Fighters, LA Sheriff’s Department, National Guard, California Conservation Corps and a number of other local first-responder departments.
“I want you to know that you are here tonight because you are a hero or you are a loved one of a hero,” Jelly Roll said in a speech to the crowd. “And I knew the moment I was watching this go down all the way in Tennessee in my house, I thought if I got a chance to go to California, I was going to play music to everyone who worked their a– off for the last two months trying to keep the rest of this place safe. Thank you all for having me tonight — this is awesome!”
Jelly Roll had just performed at FireAid the night before, an event that had been hosted at the Kia Forum and Intuit Dome, which raised money to support survivors and all those affected by the fires.
The concert featured acts like Stevie Wonder, Stevie Nicks, Lady Gaga, Lil Baby, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Rod Stewart, Earth, Wind and Fire, Katy Perry, Sting, Tate McRae, Red Hot Chili Peppers, No Doubt and a number of others.
The Rose Bowl had served as a sanctuary for first responders during the trying times of the fires. And on Saturday, it was utilized as one once again, acting as much more than a venue for diehard sports fans it has so iconically been known for throughout its long history.

The event, organized as a way to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of these brave men and women, featured performances by local artists and musicians. The concert, which drew a large crowd of first responders and their families, served as a way to honor their service and sacrifice, especially in light of the challenges they have faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Attendees were treated to a night of music, camaraderie, and celebration, all against the backdrop of the historic stadium.
The Rose Bowl, known for its storied history and iconic events, provided the perfect setting for this special gathering. As the night came to a close, attendees left the Rose Bowl with a renewed sense of appreciation for the men and women who serve on the front lines every day. Kalen DeBoer is getting the band back together. Alabama football is bringing on Ryan Grubb as offensive coordinator, reuniting DeBoer with the man who helped him bring Washington to the national championship game in 2023.
Alabama announced the news Sunday through its Yea Alabama NIL collective. DeBoer had not ruled out the possibility when asked about it during a media availability at the Senior Bowl.
When DeBoer left the Huskies to join Alabama after Nick Saban retired in January of 2024, Grubb initially followed. However, he then decided to remain in Seattle, taking the OC job with the NFL’s Seahawks.
After one season, Grubb was fired by the Seahawks. That move opened the door to reunite with DeBoer in Tuscaloosa.
After Grubb headed back to Seattle, Nick Sheridan was promoted to Alabama’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The release did not mention his future.
Grubb first worked for DeBoer at Sioux Falls in 2007. The two also worked together at Eastern Michigan and Fresno State, before going to Washington in 2022.
Now back in Tuscaloosa, in a job he first interviewed for ahead of the 2023 season, when Saban was still in charge, Grubb will have work to do. Alabama’s offense was inconsistent throughout DeBoer’s first season, leading to the Crimson Tide’s first season with less than 10 wins since 2007.
He’ll immediately have a quarterback battle on his hands, with Jalen Milroe’s departure for the NFL Draft. Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and Keelon Russell will be the major players in the QB room this offseason
Breaking News: Alabama Football Hires Ryan Grubb as Offensive CoordinatorExciting news for Alabama football fans as the Crimson Tide has made a major coaching announcement. Ryan Grubb has been named the new offensive coordinator for the team, bringing a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the program.
Grubb comes to Alabama with an impressive coaching resume, having previously served as the offensive coordinator at several successful collegiate programs. His innovative schemes and ability to develop players have made him a sought-after coach in the college football world.
Head coach Nick Saban expressed his excitement about the hire, stating that he believes Grubb will bring a new level of creativity and efficiency to the Crimson Tide’s offense. With Grubb at the helm, Alabama fans can expect to see an exciting and high-powered offense take the field next season.
Stay tuned for more updates on how Grubb’s hiring will impact Alabama football as they gear up for another championship run. Roll Tide! #AlabamaFootball #RyanGrubb #OffensiveCoordinator

Did Alabama football, Kalen DeBoer consider hiring Ryan Grubb?
MOBILE, Ala. — Alabama football has seen its share of movement on its defensive coaching staff, adding former North Carolina defensive backs coach Jason Jones and naming Chuck Morrell as linebackers coach.
But after Ryan Grubb was fired as the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator, Kalen DeBoer was asked about bringing Grubb, who worked with the Alabama football coach at Sioux Falls, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State and Washington, onto the Crimson Tide staff in 2025.
“We go way back,” DeBoer said at the Senior Bowl on Tuesday. “Great friend of mine. I think the world of him as a football coach and obviously as a person too. I know he is working through his process just after what last season brought. Just kind of see what he does there. Here for him whenever he needs me, and that’s always going to be the case.”
Grubb was initially hired to be Alabama’s offensive coordinator in 2024 and was seen recruiting for the Crimson Tide. He instead took the Seahawks offensive coordinator job.
Alabama instead hired Nick Sheridan as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

In nine seasons as a college football offensive coordinator, Grubb has led offenses that have eclipsed 400 yards of offense per game six times, including a Washington offense that averaged over 515 yards per game in 2022.
Each one of those offenses have averaged more than 30 points per game.
In his one season with the Seattle Seahawks, Grubb had the eighth-best passing game in the NFL, averaging 236.5 yards passing per game with Geno Smith at the helm. However, the Seahawks had the fifth-worst run game in the league as one of five to average less than 100 yards rushing per game.

There has been speculation in the college football world about whether the Alabama football program, led by head coach Kalen DeBoer, considered hiring Ryan Grubb as part of their coaching staff. Grubb, who has made a name for himself as an up-and-coming offensive mind, has been linked to several high-profile coaching vacancies in recent years. With Alabama known for its high-powered offense and innovative play-calling, many fans and analysts believe that Grubb could be a good fit for the Crimson Tide. His track record of developing talented quarterbacks and his ability to adapt his scheme to fit his personnel make him an attractive candidate for any program looking to take their offense to the next level.
While there has been no official confirmation of any discussions between Alabama and Grubb, the idea of him joining forces with DeBoer and the Crimson Tide is certainly an intriguing one. Only time will tell if this potential coaching collaboration will come to fruition, but one thing is for certain – the football world will be watching closely to see how this story unfolds.

Gabriel and William Saliba to renew ‘war’ with Erling Haaland as Arsenal face Man City – The Radar | Football News
Welcome to The Radar, a Sky Sports column in which Nick Wright uses a blend of data and opinion to shed light on need-to-know stories from up and down the Premier League. This week:
Gabriel, Saliba and Haaland to do battle
Versatile Gray a bright spot for Spurs
Iraola’s defensive innovation
A player to watch this weekendGabriel, Saliba and Haaland face off again
Erling Haaland telling Mikel Arteta to “stay humble” was the headline-grabbing moment from the fiery exchanges which followed September’s 2-2 draw between Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium. But his battle with Gabriel was where it all started.
Haaland could be seen throwing the ball into the back of Gabriel’s head after John Stones’ stoppage-time equaliser, with the pair clashing again from the kick-off. On Sunday, live on Sky Sports, they will renew their “war”, as termed by Gabriel, at the Emirates Stadium.
Haaland scored the opener in that last meeting, racing onto Savinho’s pass and finishing coolly. But few centre-back pairings have made life more difficult for him than Gabriel and William Saliba.
His goal in the September game came after three meetings without even a shot on target, including last season’s Community Shield.
Since the start of last season, Haaland has averaged 0.33 goals per 90 minutes against Arsenal compared 0.91 per 90 minutes against other sides. He has taken fewer shots and those he has taken have registered lower on the expected goals scale.
Gabriel and Saliba have shown the capacity to stifle him, in other words, as they have so many others. Arsenal have a superior defensive record to any other Premier League side since the start of the 2022/23 season. The importance of their centre-backs is clear.
Arsenal have conceded an average of only 0.8 goals per game with Gabriel and Saliba starting compared to 1.4 per game without them. The difference in their points per game and win rate is similarly stark, from 2.3 to 1.8 and 73 per cent to 47 per cent respectively.
Even in the context of Arsenal’s difficulties, the pair have been particularly effective this season, limiting opponents to a meagre 0.71 goals per game when starting together, putting them just ahead of Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk on 0.78.
Of course, they know full well just how devastating Haaland can be.
Manchester City’s Haaland-inspired 4-1 thrashing of Arsenal in April 2023 came with Rob Holding deputising for the injured Saliba but both were present for their 3-1 loss two months earlier, in which Haaland also scored. His goal at the Etihad Stadium in September came when he exploited a gap between them.
Haaland also comes into this meeting in fine form. After a dip between September and December, he has scored six goals in his last seven games. He will be just as fired up as those tasked with stopping him on Sunday. Expect more fireworks to follow.
Gray filling holes for Spurs
Micky van de Ven came through Tottenham’s Europa League win over Elfsborg unscathed on his return to action but an injury to Radu Dragusin, his second-half replacement, means there’s little prospect of Archie Gray getting a rest against Brentford on Sunday.
The 18-year-old has started 14 consecutive games for Spurs amid their injury crisis. The fact he has shone so brightly during a dismal run of form for Ange Postecoglou’s side is even more impressive given the number of roles he has been asked to fulfil.
Gray started as Spurs’ right-sided centre-back against Elfsborg having played at left-back in their previous two games, against Hoffenheim and Leicester. Before that, against Everton, he started in central midfield, having been their left-sided centre-back against Arsenal only a few days earlier.
The circumstances would be demanding enough for a young player even without the positional changes. But Gray has taken it all in his stride, demonstrating extraordinary versatility and emerging from a torrid run for Spurs with his own reputation enhanced.
Iraola ripping up defensive rulebook
Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth host Liverpool on Saturday having extended their unbeaten run to 11 games with last weekend’s 5-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest. A point off the Champions League spots, they continue to defy the odds, despite a lengthy injury list.
They are doing it with one of the youngest sides in the Premier League this season. But what is really unusual about Bournemouth is that their youthfulness is concentrated in defence.
At centre-back, a position in which experience and knowhow are traditionally deemed crucial, Iraola is using the 22-year-old Illia Zabarnyi and the 19-year-old Dean Huijsen, a pairing roughly six years younger than the Premier League average this season.
Not that you would know it to watch them. The pair have developed an excellent understanding, displaying a level of assuredness to bely their years. Iraola’s side have only lost one of the 12 Premier League games they have started together and kept clean sheets in five.
Iraola’s preference for youth is not limited to his centre-backs. At left-back, there is the 21-year-old Milos Kerkez. At right-back, Julian Araujo, 23, was generally favoured before his injury, with James Hill, also 23, subsequently emerging as second choice when fit.
In Huijsen’s case, it is partly a story of circumstance, with Marcos Senesi unavailable due to injury. But it is also a stylistic choice. Iraola’s commitment to throwing bodies forward in attack demands defenders with the dynamism to cope when the ball is turned over.
“There are probably times when we suffer, experience-wise, because a lot of them are very young,” he explained to Sky Sports in an office at the Vitality Stadium in October. “But they give us the ability to defend big spaces and cope with those situations.”
The club have recruited with Iraola’s high-intensity approach in mind, making youth a priority. “You have to play to your strengths,” added Iraola. “That is why it helps to have a young team with players who can play with high energy, in a high rhythm.”
Carry on like this and it might prove difficult to keep their defensive unit together. Huijsen, a bargain £12.8m signing from Juventus, is sure to attract interest. Kerkez is a reported target for Liverpool.
But don’t expect Iraola to change tack. In fact, in Kerkez’s case, he may already have a successor in place in Julio Soler, the 19-year-old signed from Argentine club Lanus earlier this month. Bournemouth and their head coach continue to do things their own way.
Player Radar: Who else to keep an eye on
Kevin Schade continues to quietly impress for Brentford. The 23-year-old has scored six goals at an average of 0.50 per 90 minutes this season, putting him level with Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and not far behind his team-mate Bryan Mbeumo on 0.61. Spurs beware.
