Winter storm forces portions of I-10 and I-12 to close
The winter storm currently blanketing the Capital Region with snow has forced portions of Interstates 10 and 12 to close, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s real-time traffic map.
As of this morning’s publication deadline, the following stretches of interstate were closed:
- I-10 eastbound and westbound from Interstate 49 to La. 415
- I-10 westbound from Highland Road to the I-10/I-12 split
- I-12 westbound from Airline Highway to the I-10/I-12 split
The northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 110 have also been closed.
On Monday, DOTD Communications Director Rodney Mallet told Daily Report that his agency pretreated both I-10 and I-12 in an effort to avoid any closures but that nothing could be promised. The agency is encouraging the public to regularly check 511la.org to stay up to date on road closures.
Winter storm wreaks havoc on southern Louisiana, forces portions of Interstate 10 and Interstate 12 to closeAs a powerful winter storm sweeps through the southern United States, portions of Interstate 10 and Interstate 12 in Louisiana have been forced to close due to hazardous road conditions.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that a section of I-10 between Baton Rouge and Lafayette has been shut down, as well as a stretch of I-12 near Hammond. The closures are in effect until further notice, as crews work to clear snow and ice from the roadways.
Motorists are advised to avoid traveling in these areas if possible, and to use caution if driving in other parts of the state experiencing winter weather. DOTD is urging drivers to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary, as icy conditions are making travel extremely dangerous.
Local officials are also warning residents to take precautions and stay indoors if possible, as the winter storm is expected to bring freezing temperatures and potentially dangerous conditions. Schools and businesses have been closed in many areas, and residents are being urged to stay off the roads and avoid unnecessary travel.
Stay tuned for updates on the road closures and weather conditions in Louisiana as the winter storm continues to impact the region. Stay safe and stay warm!

Deadly Turkish ski resort fire forces guests to jump from windows

A file photo of a chicken flock.
ATLANTA – The first case of avian flu in a commercial poultry operation has been found, according to the Georgia Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
The case has forced officials to suspend all in-state poultry exhibitions, shows, swaps, meets, and sales until further notice.
Bird flu found in Georgia poultry
What we know:
On Wednesday, a poultry producer in Elbert County noticed signs of avian flu in their flock. Samples were gathered the following morning and taken to the Georgia Poultry Laboratory Network (GPLN) for testing, resulting in a positive for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).
On Friday, USDA’s National Veterinary Services Laboratory also confirmed a positive test result.
The Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Emergency Management and State Agricultural Response Teams (SART) were deployed to the site to “conduct depopulation, cleaning and disinfecting, and disposal operations.”
This operation will continue through the weekend. The location has about 45,000 broiler breeders onsite.
Quarantine after avian flu discovered
What we don’t know:
Agriculture officials are not sure if the virus has migrated to other flocks. To help fight this, they have set up a 6.2-mile radius quarantine with intense surveillance testing planned for the next two weeks.
It is not immediately known when the ban on poultry exhibitions, shows, swaps, and sales (flea market or auction market) will be lifted. Officials say that is dependent on testing and notification will be sent out.
What is Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza?
The backstory:
Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), commonly known as bird flu, is a severe and highly contagious viral disease affecting bird populations worldwide. Caused by influenza A viruses, HPAI poses a significant threat to both domestic poultry and wild birds, with potential implications for public health.
HPAI is characterized by its rapid spread and high mortality rate among infected birds, leading to substantial economic losses in the poultry industry. The virus primarily affects domestic poultry such as chickens, turkeys, and ducks, but can also infect wild birds, which often act as carriers without showing symptoms.
Transmission occurs through direct contact with infected birds, their droppings, or contaminated surfaces, equipment, and clothing. Symptoms in birds include sudden death, lethargy, decreased egg production, swelling of the head, comb, and wattles, respiratory distress, and diarrhea.
While HPAI primarily affects avian species, certain strains have the potential to infect humans, particularly those in close contact with infected birds. Although human infections are rare, they can result in severe respiratory illness, raising public health concerns.
Efforts to control HPAI outbreaks focus on culling infected and exposed birds, implementing stringent biosecurity measures, and restricting the movement of poultry and poultry products. In some cases, vaccination is employed as a preventive measure.
The impact of HPAI outbreaks extends beyond agriculture, affecting trade and public health. Early detection and rapid response are crucial in managing the disease and mitigating its effects on the poultry industry and human populations.
First case of bird flu in commercial poultry in Georgia
What they’re saying:
“For the first time since the ongoing, nationwide outbreak began in 2022, HPAI has been confirmed in a commercial poultry operation in the state of Georgia,” said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper. “This is a serious threat to Georgia’s #1 industry and the livelihoods of thousands of Georgians who make their living in our state’s poultry industry. We are working around the clock to mitigate any further spread of the disease and ensure that normal poultry activities in Georgia can resume as quickly as possible.”
How do you catch bird flu?
What you can do:
Officials are asking anyone with chickens to consider moving their flock inside and separate from other animals.
They also advise farmers to follow the best biosecurity practices and continue to monitor their flock.
Owners should keep an eye out for birds that become quiet, stop eating or drinking, have discolored combs and feet, or die suddenly with no signs of disease.
Sick birds should be reported immediately to the Georgia Avian Influenza hotline at 770-766-6850 or at gapoultrylab.org/avian-influenza-hotline.
Anyone who sees dead birds in unusually high numbers in a single location should contact the Georgia Department of Natural Resources at 1-800-366-2661 or report online at https://georgiawildlife.com/report-dead-birds.
The Source: The information in this article is from a joint press release from the Georgia Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
In a recent development, an avian influenza outbreak in Georgia has led to the halt of poultry sales and the implementation of quarantine measures in affected areas. The outbreak, which has been confirmed in several poultry farms across the state, has prompted authorities to take swift action to prevent the spread of the virus. As a result, the sale of poultry products has been temporarily suspended, and quarantine measures have been put in place to contain the outbreak.
Avian influenza, also known as bird flu, is a highly contagious viral disease that can affect birds as well as humans. The virus can spread rapidly among poultry flocks, leading to high mortality rates and significant economic losses for farmers.
In light of the outbreak, authorities are urging poultry farmers and residents to remain vigilant and report any signs of illness or unusual deaths in birds. They are also advising individuals to avoid contact with sick or dead birds and to practice good hygiene to prevent the spread of the virus.
The situation is being closely monitored by health officials, and efforts are underway to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread. In the meantime, consumers are advised to refrain from purchasing poultry products from affected areas and to follow any guidelines issued by authorities to protect themselves and their families.
As the situation continues to develop, it is important for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of avian influenza. By working together, we can help contain the outbreak and protect the health and well-being of our communities.

This one play showcases just how great Chris Paul truly is. As a loose ball made its way into the hands of Memphis Grizzlies big man Zach Edey, Chris Paul stepped up to grab the ball from the fallen Edey. Paul, at an even 6’, would have never stood a chance in a jump ball situation against Edey, who is listed at 7’4”. Paul, quick on his feet, turned to the 7’3” Victor Wembanyama and gestured for him to grab the ball. When he didn’t, Paul literally took his hand and placed Wemby’s hand on the ball.
Lightning-quick reflexes, high basketball IQ, spacial relations, and leadership, all in one play that took place in a matter of seconds.

Scott Boland forces SCG crowd into unthinkable move amid great ‘shame’
Cricket fans are lamenting the lack of Tests that Scott Boland has been able to play in his career after the Victorian destroyed India at the SCG on Friday. Boland took 4-31 off 20 overs – going at just 1.55 per over – as Australia bowled the tourists out for just 185.
In 13 career Test matches he has 50 wickets at an extraordinary average of less than 19. There were stunning scenes at the SCG on Friday when the Sydney crowd gave Boland a standing ovation as he headed down to the boundary at one stage.
As Brad Haddin pointed out in commentary for Triple M, it was a rare sight to see a Sydney crowd give such adoration to a Victorian. The Test team has predominantly featured NSW bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood for the better part of the last decade, meaning Sydney crowds have rarely seen paceman from outside their home state.
Scott Boland drew a standing ovation from the SCG crowd. Image: Channel 7/Getty “Everyone in NSW is on their feet for a Victorian, this is a rare day,” Haddin said. “Scotty Boland once again, he puts pressure on the new batsman and makes them play.”
The roar of the crowd was deafening when Boland dismissed Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy in consecutive balls, and even more so when he steamed in for the hat-trick ball. He narrowly missed three-in-three, but the reaction and Boland’s performance will make him hard to drop when Hazlewood is fit again.

At age 35, time is running out for the Victorian. As many have pointed out, he would have played many more Tests if he wasn’t playing in an era where Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood have dominated with such longevity.
Starc has taken 373 Test wickets, while Hazlewood has 279 and Cummins 289. The pace cartel have hardly missed any Tests in the last decade, meaning Boland hasn’t been given the opportunity he deserves.
West Indian great Ian Bishop wrote on social media on Friday: “Absolute pity that Scott Boland could not debut in Test cricket until he was nearly 33 years of age.” Another pundit wrote: “Scott Boland could legit be one of the best pace bowlers of all time. Its a shame he started in the Australian team at an advanced age (for a fast bowler).”
Scott Boland has been on fire today! His spell was pure brilliance, and the SCG crowd gave him the respect he truly deserves! #AUSvIND #Boland

sport has adopted this archaic outlook. Boland is never seen to have been dropped when Hazelwood plays. The way Boland is playing, some might say he deserves the spot more than Hazelwood in some venues. But, if their 3 pacers are fit and fine, Boland doesn’t play. (Cont)

Scott Boland could have been one of the greatest bowlers of this generation in Australia, but he was born in the wrong era and did not get enough opportunities

Calls for Scott Boland to remain in Australia’s first-choice XI
Boland’s 4-31 on the opening day in Sydney not only put Australia on the path to regaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but it potentially extended his own Test career. There’s a compelling case for him to be part of Australia’s first-choice XI moving forward, even when Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood are all fit.
In the past 60 years, the only Australian fast bowler to play beyond his 36th birthday is Glenn McGrath. Boland will reach that mark in April, and he could join McGrath if he’s picked for the Ashes next summer.
Scott Boland took his 50th Test wicket at an average of less than 19. (Photo by Morgan Hancock – CA/Cricket Australia via Getty Images) With Hazlewood injured and Cummins likely to skip the upcoming Sri Lanka tour due to the birth of his second child, Boland will remain in the Aussie XI alongside Starc and two spinners. But selectors will face a tricky call for the likely World Test Championship final in June and the Ashes next summer.
“He’s a difficult customer, Scotty,” teammate Beau Webster said after play on Friday. “If there is anything in the wicket he finds it. And if there is nothing in the wicket he still manages to find a way through.
“He’s been fantastic this whole series when he’s got his chance. He is relentless. His line, length and natural angle makes it really hard. He can bowl long spells and back up the next day, he’s just been superb.”

Australian cricketer Scott Boland’s incredible performance at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) left the crowd in disbelief as they were forced into an unthinkable move amid great ‘shame’. Boland’s outstanding bowling display against England in the Ashes series saw him take 6 wickets for just 7 runs, leaving the English batsmen in complete disarray. The SCG crowd, predominantly supporting the Australian team, was left in awe of Boland’s remarkable feat. As he continued to dismantle the English batting lineup with his impeccable bowling, the crowd couldn’t help but show their appreciation for his outstanding performance.
In a rare display of sportsmanship, the SCG crowd, known for their passionate support for the Australian team, was forced into a moment of silence as they witnessed Boland’s exceptional skills on the field. Despite their loyalty to the home team, the crowd couldn’t help but acknowledge the brilliance of Boland’s bowling and the sheer dominance he displayed against the English side.
As Boland continued to take wickets with ease, the SCG crowd found themselves in a state of ‘shame’ for underestimating the talent and ability of the Australian bowler. The unthinkable move of silence and respect shown by the crowd towards Boland was a testament to his exceptional performance and undeniable talent on the field.
Scott Boland’s incredible display at the SCG not only earned him accolades from fans and critics alike but also forced the crowd into a moment of introspection, realizing the importance of acknowledging and appreciating extraordinary talent, regardless of team allegiances. It was a humbling experience for the SCG crowd, who were left in awe of Boland’s exceptional bowling and sportsmanship.

“I was made fun of as a teenager [because my boobs] were mosquito bites,” she told Bustle. “I got them done at the same age Sami is wanting to get them done.”

Denise Richards ‘Ruptured’ Both Breast Implants Filming Special Forces
Denise Richards made some serious sacrifices to survive on Special Forces.
The actress, 53, competed on season 3 of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, which premieres Jan. 8, and she’s revealing just how far she was willing to go in order to last on the Fox competition series.
“I jumped off a bridge, too — and that’s when I ruptured my [breast] implants — off of that thing,” Richards said during a joint interview with her husband Aaron Phypers on SiriusXM’s Jeff Lewis Live.
She said that the “harness” she was wearing for the jump was to blame for the rupture, which affected “both” of her breast implants, which she has yet to fix.
“I still have to get them redone,” she admitted. “I was supposed to a month ago but couldn’t because we were filming, so yeah, no, I still have to get them redone.”
Richards also said that her insurance won’t be fitting the bill for the operation and it will fall on her. “I have to pay,” she said. “I think we pretty much signed our life away doing that show… It’s dangerous.”
“Maybe we can work that in after the fact,” Phypers then said at the suggestion that the Fox series pay for the operation.

Richards will compete on season 3 of the series alongside stars including Trista Sutter, Stephen Baldwin, Brody Jenner, Christy Carlson Romano and Cam Newton. The survival series sees the celebrity recruits train in Wales, the home of British Special Forces Selection, and this season, they must endure the harsh reality of ocean warfare.
Among the challenges the group of 16 stars will face include: a high pressure hostage rescue, a treacherous ladder crossing between steep cliffs nearly 100-feet above the sea, a boat dunk drill where they will be submerged into the frigid ocean and a surf immersion where they will have to control their panic in an exercise that takes them to the brink of drowning, per a press release.
In an interview with PEOPLE, the mother of three admitted that her daughters Sami, 20, Lola, 19, and Eloise, 13 were “very upset” when they learned she’d joined the dangerous show.
“They did not want me to do it. They were afraid I was going to get hurt or get killed, and they were actually really angry,” she said. “It was the first time of all the times I’ve done different projects or traveled they were very upset with me.”

Richards chose to persevere, though, despite her daughters’ hesitance — and the fact that she’s, in her own words, “not athletic at all.”
“I thought, ‘This is the most challenging thing I’ll ever do, and why not do it?’ I was terrified, but once I made the commitment to do it, I was there,” she said.
Of her fellow competitors, she added, “I was so intimidated by everyone. I didn’t know who was going to be there, but I did hear there were some athletes, and I can’t compete with that. But that’s the greatest thing too, is it’s not about competing against anybody but myself, and that’s why they strip us down raw, physically and mentally and emotionally and all of that.”

The Starship Troopers and Wild Things star clarified on the Jan. 3 episode of Jeff Lewis Live that it was the “harness” which caused the injury, saying, “I still have to get them redone. I was supposed to a month ago but I couldn’t because we were filming. So yeah, no, I still have to get them redone.”
When Lewis asked if Fox was picking up the tab for the procedure, Richards said, “No, I have to pay the price. I think I pretty much signed our life away doing that show. It’s dangerous!”
Danger is pretty much the point of Special Forces, which is an adaptation of the British reality series SAS: Who Dares Wins. Each season of Special Forces assembles a cast of celebrity contestants and puts them through real elements of the United States Special Forces selection course, which is renowned for its intensity. Hence World’s Toughest Test.
Contestants on past seasons have jumped out of helicopters, repelled down a 400 ft. dam, traversed a 4,700 ft. deep cliff atop a rope, recreated rescue missions amid firefight and bombing simulations, and more.
Of the thirty contestants to compete across seasons 1 and 2, five were medically withdrawn, 18 voluntarily withdrew, two were disqualified, and only five passed the series of limit-pushing tests, which make up only part of the real selection course. Those winners are Bachelor Nation alums Hannah Brown, Nick Viall, and Tyler Cameron, former soccer star Carli Lloyd, and Olympic speed skater Erin Jackson.

Beyond the strenuous physical endurance tests, several former Special Forces contestants have opened up about the series’ bare living conditions – an endurance test of their own. Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kenya Moore, who competed on season 1, revealed in 2023 that contestants live “on an 800 calorie a day diet… doing these exercises probably 16 hours in a day” while “sleeping on cots” with no plumbing.
“Even giving birth was probably easier than this show,” Moore said. “And I almost died giving birth, so that’s saying a lot.”
Richards will compete on season 3 alongside an all-star cast including Stephen Baldwin, Kyla Pratt, Bachelorette alums Trista Sutter and Ali Fedotowsky, The Hills star Brody Jenner, the NFL’s Cam Newton, former Disney star Christy Carlson Romano, and more.
The first two episodes of season 3 of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test premiere on January 8 on Fox.
