The Thing’s Forgotten Comic Book Adaptations Rescued Kurt Russell’s MacReady
John Carpenter‘s “The Thing” has one of the greatest horror movie endings of all time, but it also baffled audiences upon its initial release. After buckets of body horror and enough suspense to make your blood run cold, Carpenter left the world dangling by a thread, hoping that just like MacReady (Kurt Russell) and Childs (Keith David) in the movie’s final moments, we’d simply wait it out a while and see what happens. Nothing ever did, though, and you know what? For many, it’s why the film’s ending is perfect, leaving us to dread that the titular alien had consumed one or even both of the survivors of Outpost 31. More determined “Thing” fans still needed answers, however, and they actually got them courtesy of the Dark Horse comic book series “The Thing from Another World” (along with the other stories that spawned from it).Debuting in 1991, “The Thing from Another World…
John Carpenter’s 1982 film “The Thing” is a beloved cult classic that has stood the test of time as one of the greatest horror films ever made. However, what many fans may not realize is that this iconic movie was actually based on a comic book adaptation that helped rescue Kurt Russell’s character, MacReady, from obscurity. The Thing originally debuted in the pages of Marvel Comics in 1982, just a few months before the film’s release. Written by Bill Mantlo and illustrated by Brent Anderson, the comic book adaptation delved deeper into the story of MacReady and the other occupants of Outpost 31 as they battled against the shape-shifting alien creature.
While the film was met with mixed reviews and struggled at the box office, the comic book adaptation was a hit with fans and helped keep MacReady’s character alive in the minds of audiences. The comic book provided additional backstory and character development that was not fully explored in the film, giving fans a deeper understanding of MacReady’s motivations and struggles.
Thanks to the success of the comic book adaptation, Kurt Russell’s portrayal of MacReady became a cult favorite and helped solidify his status as a genre icon. The comic book also helped introduce a new generation of fans to the world of The Thing, ensuring that this timeless tale of paranoia and survival would continue to live on for years to come.
So the next time you watch John Carpenter’s The Thing, take a moment to appreciate the forgotten comic book adaptation that helped rescue Kurt Russell’s MacReady and keep this chilling tale alive for generations of fans to enjoy.

Flagship iPhones, iPads, and Macs typically steal the spotlight when it comes to Apple events and announcements, dominating news coverage and customer interest. However, Apple also offers a wide range of lesser-known products that, while not necessarily as popular or powerful, remain important parts of its ecosystem. Based on the rumor calendar, 2025 is set to be a packed year for Apple hardware, and these six forgotten devices could finally be getting some long-overdue upgrades.
iPhone SE 4
Despite being the least capable 2025 Apple phone, the iPhone SE 4—or iPhone 16E—could turn out to be a best-seller after it likely launches in March. Compared to its three-year-old predecessor, the fourth-generation budget iPhone is expected to feature an all-new exterior that resembles an iPhone 14 or 15. That’s not to mention supporting Apple Intelligence (thanks to the base A18 chip), adopting Face ID, switching to USB-C, boasting an edge-to-edge OLED panel, and packing a 48MP rear camera.
September’s iPhone 17 phones will undoubtedly intrigue more users with their high-end technical specifications. Nevertheless, given its rumored sub-$500 price, the iPhone SE 4 could convince budget-conscious customers to finally upgrade their worn-out iPhones or mid-range Android phones. After all, it will likely be the first SE model to offer both a modern design and premium internals—and that’ll entice numerous undecided buyers to opt for it.
Apple Watch SE 3
Another outdated SE product rumored to get an upgrade this year is the Apple Watch. Despite being the company’s cheapest smartwatch, this model provides a reliable experience—sans some inessential perks currently exclusive to the Series and Ultra models. So, for just $249, users get the same battery life and main set of watchOS apps, excluding support for ECG, an always-on display, and precision finding. This makes it the perfect pick for those seeking to live a more active life but can’t justify paying extra for the bonus sensors.
In September, the Apple Watch SE 3 is expected to launch with a fresh design, retiring the aluminum chassis in favor of colorful plastic. Consequently, the wearable could potentially drop its price to better compete against cheap fitness trackers and appeal to youngsters. Beyond that, it could pack a faster S-series chipset, bringing faster performance and unlocking more demanding features.
The Apple Watch SE hasn’t changed much in 5 years.
Foundry
AirTag 2
Released in 2021, the AirTag is arguably the most effective Bluetooth tracker for casual item location. It’s powered by Apple’s vast Find My network, making it discoverable by hundreds of millions of iDevices around the planet. At some point this year, Apple is expected to finally release the coin-sized tracker’s successor, featuring a newer ultra-wideband chip and added privacy measures.
Thanks to the upgraded UWB chip, users will reportedly be able to locate the AirTag 2 with more precision. And since many criminals rely on modified AirTags to stalk their victims, Apple could make removing its speaker more challenging. It certainly won’t be 2025’s most exciting launch, but given the nature of the product, it’s a welcome upgrade nonetheless.
HomePod mini 2
The HomePod mini turns five this year. And, disregarding the superficial color refresh, it has yet to receive its first upgrade. Fortunately, the 2nd-gen model could finally launch in the fall. Based on credible rumors, the HomePod mini 2 will boast a faster processor, Apple’s in-house wireless connectivity chipset, potential Wi-Fi 6E support, and an enhanced UWB chip for improved Handoff. The speaker could also play a bigger role in Apple’s HomeKit infrastructure, as the company is about to embrace and take smart home products more seriously. It may not be the most groundbreaking release, but it certainly will maximize the HomePod mini’s function in people’s houses.
Apple TV 4K 4
Speaking of homes, the Apple TV 4K could get its first upgrade in three years this fall, too. The fourth-generation model, like the HomePod mini 2, will likely adopt Apple’s own networking chip, along with a faster A-series brain. Besides potentially expanding its smart home capabilities, it’s unclear if the Apple TV 4K 4 will bring any other notable features, but expect it to be positioned as a new smart home device that’s more than just a silent home hub.
The next-gen Apple TV 4K might be more than just a set-top box.
Foundry
Studio and Pro displays
Launched in 2019 and 2022, respectively, the Pro Display XDR and Studio Display are overdue for an upgrade. Despite starting at $4,999 and packing industry-leading technology, the former screen could use some improvements. For example, its current refresh rate caps out at 60Hz, so supporting ProMotion (120Hz) would be a great start. It could also borrow some Studio Display features, such as the FaceTime camera and spatial audio speakers. This would turn it into a higher-end variant of the Studio Display—and far more enticing for its $4,999 price tag—and maybe include a stand this time.
Meanwhile, this year’s Studio Display could finally switch to mini-LED and improve the bundled webcam. It remains to be seen if Apple has other upgrades in store or plans to drop its $1,599 starting price.
In with the new
Considering Apple doesn’t upgrade the devices above as frequently as other products, this year will be the perfect entry point for newcomers. Customers looking to get started with the essentials will be able to own an affordable, up-to-date iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirTag. Meanwhile, users migrating their media streaming setup to Apple will appreciate the equally inexpensive Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini—which can seamlessly output tvOS audio.
And while the first-party displays may be relatively niche, their release could accompany new, M4-powered Mac Studio and Mac Pro machines. These would pair well together for professionals seeking high-end configurations.
Of course, beyond these six forgotten products, Apple also has a slew of regular updates on tap. These will likely include an M4 MacBook Air and iPad Air, iPad 11 with Apple Intelligence support, M5 MacBook Pro and iPad Pro, Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3, and hopefully some surprises along the way.
- iPod Classic: Apple is rumored to be releasing a new version of the iconic iPod Classic, with updated features and a sleek design.
- iPod Shuffle: The tiny music player is making a comeback with a refreshed look and improved functionality.
- iPod Nano: Apple is reviving the iPod Nano with a modern twist, including new colors and upgraded specs.
- AirPort Express: The wireless router is getting an update with faster speeds and enhanced security features.
- Apple Cinema Display: The beloved monitor is getting a makeover with a higher resolution and improved connectivity options.
- iPod Touch: Apple is giving the iPod Touch a much-needed update, with a faster processor and better camera capabilities.

Sony Vaio, a brand that was once synonymous with cutting-edge technology and sleek design, has largely faded into obscurity in recent years. However, the legacy of the Vaio line of laptops is still felt in the laptop market today, as it revolutionized the way consumers viewed portable computing devices. When Sony introduced the Vaio brand in 1996, it was a game-changer in the laptop market. The Vaio laptops were known for their premium build quality, innovative features, and stylish design. They were also one of the first laptops to incorporate multimedia capabilities, making them popular among consumers who wanted a device that could handle both work and entertainment tasks.
One of the key aspects that set Vaio laptops apart from the competition was their focus on design. Sony’s commitment to creating sleek, stylish laptops that were not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing helped to redefine what a laptop could look like. The Vaio laptops were often seen as fashion accessories, with their slim profiles, metallic finishes, and vibrant colors setting them apart from the more utilitarian designs of other laptops on the market.
In addition to their design, Vaio laptops also introduced a number of innovative features that would later become standard in the industry. For example, Sony was one of the first companies to incorporate built-in webcams, high-definition displays, and Blu-ray drives into their laptops. These features helped to set Vaio laptops apart from the competition and cemented Sony’s reputation as a leader in the laptop market.
Despite their initial success, Sony’s Vaio line eventually fell out of favor with consumers. The rise of smartphones and tablets led to a decline in laptop sales, and Sony struggled to keep up with the rapidly changing market. In 2014, Sony announced that it would be selling off its Vaio division to focus on other areas of its business.
While Sony may have moved on from the Vaio brand, the legacy of the Vaio line of laptops lives on in the laptop market today. Many of the features that were first introduced in Vaio laptops, such as high-definition displays and built-in webcams, are now standard on most laptops. The focus on design and innovation that Sony brought to the laptop market with the Vaio brand has also influenced other manufacturers, who continue to strive to create laptops that are both functional and stylish.
In conclusion, the forgotten legacy of Sony Vaio is one that has had a lasting impact on the laptop market. The Vaio line of laptops helped to redefine what a laptop could look like and introduced a number of innovative features that are now standard in the industry. While Sony may no longer produce Vaio laptops, the influence of the brand can still be seen in the laptops that we use today.
#Forgotten #Legacy #Sony #Vaio #Changed #Laptop #Market, what happened to sony vaioTrump picks Musk’s money over ‘forgotten’ Americans of MAGA. Sorry, xenophobes!
My new hobby is watching loyal Donald Trump supporters get thrown under the bus by President-elect Donald Trump. It’s exhilarating.
The most recent example came when the anti-immigrant MAGA base got in an online derp-brawl with big-tech Trump supporters like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy over the issue of H-1B visas. Those visas allow highly skilled foreign workers to stay in the United States for up to six years under H-1B nonimmigrant status.
Big Tech companies rely on those visas, while Big Racism people on the internet claim the visas are another example of foreign workers taking jobs from the “forgotten” men and women of America who Trump promised to protect.
(Spoiler alert: Trump sided with Musk and the tech bros this weekend because they gave him lots of money and money is all he actually cares about. Sorry, xenophobes!)
Trump sells out supporters to back Elon Musk on H-1B visas
Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy face MAGA backlash over possible visa program expansion
Here’s how the whole unbelievably stupid thing unfolded.
About a week ago, Trump named venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan as an advisor on artificial intelligence. Because Krishnan had previously voiced support for expanding the H-1B visa program, hardcore anti-immigration loudmouths like Laura Loomer – one of the most loyal Trump loyalists – and Steve Bannon got mad and outraged. That’s kind of their thing.
Bannon said the H-1B program is a threat to Western civilization, which makes sense if your soul is so filled with hate it has choked off oxygen to your brain.
Opinion: 2024 was a bad year for basic decency in America. You can thank Trump for that.
The madness and outrage swiftly descended into racist attacks against Krishnan’s Indian heritage, prompting Musk and Ramaswamy to get big-mad and offer forceful defenses of the foreign-worker program.
Vivek Ramaswamy tells MAGA that Americans are kinda dumb and lazy
Ramaswamy posted on social media: “Our American culture has venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long (at least since the 90s and likely longer)…Trump’s election hopefully marks the beginning of a new golden era in America, but only if our culture fully wakes up. A culture that once again prioritizes achievement over normalcy; excellence over mediocrity; nerdiness over conformity; hard work over laziness.”
Vivek Ramaswamy, the co-lead with Elon Musk of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency, arriving for meetings at the US Capitol on Dec. 5, 2024 in Washington.
Many MAGA folks read that as Ramaswamy calling them dumb and lazy, probably because that was Ramaswamy calling them dumb and lazy. The MAGA base swiftly turned its ire on Ramaswamy, prompting Musk to call them “contemptible fools.” He later clarified that “contemptible fools” was only referring to “those in the Republican Party who are hateful, unrepentant racists” and will “absolutely be the downfall of the Republican Party if they are not removed.”
I’m not quite sure how that narrows things down, but whatever.
MAGA fans find themselves discovering where they stand in Trump’s world
The bottom line is this: Members of a political movement fueled almost entirely by a hatred of immigrants were getting told by Musk, an immigrant, and Ramaswamy, an American via birthright citizenship, that they are racist and dumb and lazy and should support a program that allows foreign workers to get U.S. jobs.
Opinion: Trump lied about food prices. Now he says it’s too ‘hard’ to bring down costs.
It prompted prominent MAGA figures like former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who like all these other people is a disreputable dipstick, to post this about Musk and Co.: “We welcomed the tech bros when they came running our way to avoid the 3rd-grade teacher picking their kid’s gender – and the obvious Biden/Harris economic decline. We did not ask them to engineer an immigration policy.”
Somebody pass me the popcorn – this is getting GREAT!
Musk tells MAGA to … well, it’s profane and not too nice
On Friday, Musk took to the social media platform he has ruined and wrote of the anti-worker-visa crowd: “Take a big step back and F–K YOURSELF in the face. I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend.” (I’m not sure how one of the most influential people in president-elect Trump’s orbit saying “F—K YOURSELF in the face” squares with the evangelical part of the MAGA base, but I can only deal with one group of suckers getting burned at a time.)
President-elect Donald Trump attends Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S., on Dec. 22, 2024
On Saturday, in an interview with New York Post, Trump finally weighed in on the visa issue, saying: “It’s a great program.”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!
That’s magnificent.
Trump hated H-1B visas – until Musk told him to like them
First off, Trump said in 2016 that the H-1B visa program should be ended and is “very bad for workers.” And now, miraculously, it’s great.

Second, Trump constantly peddles xenophobic nonsense about how he’s fighting for the little guy, how he loves his “real American” supporters and how he alone can save them from the scourge of scary immigrants and elitists.
But when a couple of elite billionaires go off on his base and effectively call them a bunch of non-skilled, racist dopes while rallying around a specific immigration program they like because it helps them … well, guess whose side Trump is on?
Musk spent about a quarter of a billion dollars to help Trump get back to the White House. So Trump is going to do whatever Musk and his fellow tech billionaires want him to do.
And the Laura Loomers and Steve Bannons and the MAGA loudmouths online and the voters who let themselves get conned into believing Trump was in it for them? Well, I hope they enjoy looking at the underbelly of the bus. That’s going to be their primary view from now on.

In a shocking turn of events, President Donald Trump has once again shown where his true priorities lie – with billionaire Elon Musk and his money, rather than the hardworking Americans who supported him in the 2016 election.Despite championing the “America First” slogan and promising to bring back jobs to the forgotten workers of Middle America, Trump has now chosen to side with Musk and his controversial business practices over the needs of the very people who helped him win the presidency.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has been embroiled in numerous scandals and controversies, from mistreating his workers to making questionable statements on social media. Yet Trump seems willing to overlook all of this in order to stay in Musk’s good graces and benefit from his financial support.
Meanwhile, the working-class Americans who believed in Trump’s promises to improve their lives are left behind once again, as their jobs continue to disappear and their communities struggle to survive.
So to all the xenophobic supporters of Trump who thought he would put their interests first – it’s time to wake up and realize that the president’s loyalty lies with those who line his pockets, not with the hardworking Americans who truly make this country great. It’s time to hold Trump accountable for his betrayal of the “forgotten” Americans of MAGA.
