San Francisco Giants Eyeing Pitching Reinforcements

The San Francisco Giants are on the hunt for a top-tier starting pitcher to bolster their rotation. While the recent addition of Justin Verlander on a one-year deal worth $15 million is a step in the right direction, the Giants are still in need of a true ace to lead their pitching staff.

    Exploring Trade Possibilities

With the free-agent market offering limited options, the Giants are considering making a strategic move to address their pitching needs. One intriguing proposal suggests a potential trade with division rivals, the San Diego Padres, to acquire right-hander Michael King.

    Rising Star: Michael King

Michael King emerged as a standout performer for the Padres in the 2024 season. As a 29-year-old right-handed pitcher, King showcased his prowess on the mound, finishing the year with an impressive 13-9 record, a stellar 2.95 ERA, and 201 strikeouts in 30 starts along with one relief appearance.

    A Promising Solution

Considering King’s exceptional performance and potential, he could be the missing piece in the Giants’ quest for a formidable ace. With a WAR of 4.2 in the previous season, King has demonstrated his ability to make a significant impact and elevate the Giants’ pitching rotation.

    Strategic Move for Success

By pursuing a trade for Michael King, the Giants aim to fortify their pitching depth and enhance their chances of a successful comeback in the upcoming season. As they strive to secure a spot in the postseason after falling short in the previous year, the addition of a talent like King could be the catalyst for their resurgence.

In conclusion, the potential acquisition of Michael King signifies the Giants’ proactive approach to strengthening their roster and achieving their goals for the season ahead. With his outstanding track record and promising potential, King has the opportunity to become the ace that propels the Giants towards a successful campaign and reignites their competitive spirit.

The San Francisco Giants are on the brink of a major coup with the potential acquisition of star pitcher Michael King for a whopping $71 million. This move could be the spark that reignites their fiery comeback and propels them to new heights in the MLB.

King, known for his dominant pitching and impressive stats, would be a game-changer for the Giants as they look to solidify their rotation and make a push for the playoffs. With his talent and experience, he has the potential to be a difference-maker on the mound and lead the team to victory.

I Survived the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 (I Survived #5) – VERY GOOD

I just finished reading “I Survived the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906” by Lauren Tarshis and I have to say, it was a gripping and emotional read. The story follows Leo, a young boy who finds himself caught in the chaos of the devastating earthquake that struck San Francisco in 1906.

The author does an incredible job of capturing the fear and confusion that must have been felt by those who lived through such a catastrophic event. The descriptions of the destruction and the struggles of the survivors are vivid and heart-wrenching.

Despite the sadness and loss portrayed in the book, there is also a message of hope and resilience. Leo’s determination to find his family and help others in need is inspiring, and his bravery in the face of danger is truly commendable.

Overall, I highly recommend “I Survived the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906” to anyone who enjoys historical fiction or stories of survival. It is a powerful and moving read that will stay with you long after you finish it.

  • San Francisco 49ers Name Brant Boyer Special Teams Coordinator

The San Francisco 49ers and head coach Kyle Shanahan today announced that Brant Boyer has been named as the team’s special teams coordinator.

Boyer, 53, joins the 49ers after spending the previous nine seasons as special teams coordinator for the New York Jets. During his Jets tenure (2016-24), Boyer led a special teams unit that ranked tied-for-second in total touchdowns (nine), second in blocked punts (eight) and tied-for-fifth in special teams points scored (63) and opponent kickoff return average (21.8). Under Boyer’s guidance, two players (WR Braxton Berrios – 2022 & WR Andre Roberts – 2018) earned Associated Press First-Team All-Pro honors as returners, while three players (CB Justin Hardee – 2023, Roberts – 2019 and K Jason Myers – 2019) made Pro Bowl appearances.

Prior to his time in New York, Boyer spent four seasons (2012-15) as an assistant special teams coach for the Indianapolis Colts. He helped guide the Colts unit to top 10 ranks in the NFL in yards per kickoff return (fourth), net yards per punt (sixth) and field goal percentage (seventh) during that span. In 2014, Boyer worked with P Pat McAfee and K Adam Vinatieri, helping them earn AP First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. Boyer also coached LS Matt Overton to the first Pro Bowl of his career in 2013. He began his coaching career as a training camp intern for the Cleveland Browns (2009) and New York Giants (2010).

Originally a sixth-round (177th overall) draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 1994 NFL Draft, Boyer played linebacker and special teams for 11 seasons with the Dolphins (1994), Jacksonville Jaguars (1995-2000) and Cleveland Browns (2001-04). In 129 career games, he registered 250 tackles, 13.0 sacks, 15 passes defensed, six interceptions and one forced fumble. He also appeared in nine postseason contests (two starts) and added eight tackles.

A native of Ogden, UT, Boyer attended Snow College (1990-91) and the University of Arizona (1992-93), where he earned Second-Team All-Pac-10 honors (1993).

The San Francisco 49ers have announced that they have named Brant Boyer as their new Special Teams Coordinator. Boyer brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the special teams coordinator for the New York Jets.

Boyer is known for his innovative and aggressive approach to special teams, and his units have consistently been among the best in the league. He is widely regarded as one of the top special teams coaches in the NFL, and his hiring is sure to be a major boost for the 49ers.

Under Boyer’s leadership, the 49ers special teams unit is expected to excel in all facets of the game, from kickoff and punt coverage to field goal and extra point attempts. His attention to detail and ability to motivate players will no doubt help the team achieve success in the upcoming season.

Fans are excited to see what Boyer will bring to the 49ers organization, and are hopeful that his expertise will help the team reach new heights in the coming years. Welcome to the team, Brant Boyer! #GoNiners

  • San Francisco 49ers Name Robert Saleh Defensive Coordinator

The San Francisco 49ers and head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Robert Saleh has been named as the team’s defensive coordinator.

Saleh, 45, returns to the 49ers after spending three-plus seasons (2021-24) as head coach of the New York Jets. During his time in New York, Saleh guided four different players in their first four years in the NFL to earn Associated Press First-Team All-Pro honors (WR Braxton Berrios, CB Sauce Gardner & DL Quinnen Williams) and Pro Bowl appearances (Gardner, LB Jermaine Johnson II & Williams). The Jets defense excelled with Saleh at the helm, ranking in the top 10 in the NFL in multiple categories over the 2022 and 2023 seasons. During that span (2022-23), Saleh’s Jets ranked first in passing yards allowed per game (178.9) and opponent yards per play (4.7), second in total defense (301.7) and sixth in opponent yards per rush (4.1). The unit also tallied 93 sacks and 29 interceptions during that time, tied for the eighth and 10th-most, respectively, in the NFL. In 2022, Saleh was responsible for the development of the NFL’s Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year in WR Garrett Wilson and Gardner, making the Jets the third team in NFL history to have both rookie players win the honor.

In Saleh’s first stint as defensive coordinator for the 49ers (2017-20), he led a unit that ranked third in passing yards allowed per game (211.4), fourth in total defense (323.6) and opponent yards per play (5.1) and sixth in opponent yards per rush (4.1) during his tenure. In 2019, Saleh was named Coordinator of the Year by Sporting News and helped the 49ers reach Super Bowl LIV by calling a defense that ranked first in passing yards allowed per game (169.2), second in total defense (281.8) and tied-for-second in third-down defense (33.3%). The unit featured the 2019 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in DL Nick Bosa, as well as two Second-Team All-Pro selections in DL DeForest Buckner and CB Richard Sherman. In Buckner, Bosa, Sherman and LB Fred Warner, Saleh produced four Pro Bowl players in his first stint with the 49ers.

Prior to joining San Francisco, Saleh spent three seasons (2014-16) as linebackers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars and three seasons (2011-13) as defensive quality control for the Seattle Seahawks, where he was a part of the Super Bowl XLVIII winning staff. He began his NFL coaching career by spending six seasons with the Houston Texans, serving as a defensive intern (2005), defensive quality control (2006-08) and assistant linebackers coach (2009-10). Saleh began his coaching career in the collegiate ranks, serving as a defensive assistant on the staffs of Michigan State (2002-03), Central Michigan (2004) and Georgia (2005).

A native of Dearborn, MI, Saleh attended Northern Michigan University where he started at tight end for four years. Saleh and his wife, Sanaa, have seven children: five sons, Adam, Zane, Michael, Sam and Jacob, and two daughters, Mila and Ella.

The San Francisco 49ers have officially named Robert Saleh as their new Defensive Coordinator. Saleh, who previously served as the team’s linebackers coach, has been instrumental in the development of the 49ers’ defense over the past few years.

Under Saleh’s guidance, the 49ers’ defense has become one of the most dominant units in the NFL, ranking among the top in multiple categories. His leadership and expertise have been crucial in the team’s success, and his promotion to Defensive Coordinator is well-deserved.

With Saleh at the helm, the 49ers are poised to continue their defensive dominance and make a strong push for the playoffs in the upcoming season. Congratulations to Robert Saleh on his new role with the team! #GoNiners #RobertSaleh #DefensiveCoordinator

  • San Francisco chef Charles Phan of the Slanted Door hospitalized

Famed San Francisco chef Charles Phan, 62, has been hospitalized after suffering a serious medical emergency that resulted in a brain injury, according to sources close to his family.

Staff at Phan’s restaurants have been notified, as well as members of the local restaurant community. No additional details about his condition have been confirmed by his family, who declined to comment and asked for privacy through a spokesperson.

Phan is one of the most prominent Vietnamese American chefs and has published two cookbooks on Vietnamese cuisine during his decades-long career. The news of his hospitalization, which a source says happened Wednesday, comes as he is poised to make a much-anticipated comeback this summer, when he’s expected to reopen his lauded restaurant the Slanted Door in the Mission after a years-long closure.

Phan, a pillar of the local restaurant community for decades, debuted the pioneering restaurant in 1995 on Valencia near 16th Street. It became a national sensation for elevating Vietnamese cuisine, which was not widely known to the U.S. dining public, and for using local, high-quality ingredients.

He later moved the restaurant to 100 Brannan St. before landing at the Ferry Building Marketplace in 2004. There, the restaurant served shaking beef and crab with cellophane noodles to locals and tourists before going dark at the onset of the pandemic.
