Stephen Fry recalls feeling ‘afraid’ after suffering fall

“The orthopedic surgeon made it clear that he was dealing with people who had had a fall from lesser heights, who might not walk again.
“The two things that you don’t want to hit are your skull or your spine. And I was very fortunate that I didn’t, so there was no suggestion of either cognitive impairment.”

Stephen Fry has said he sometimes thought of his chronic pain “as a friend” as he tried to manage his condition after an accident.

The actor was injured in a 6ft (1.8m) fall from a stage at London’s O2 Arena last year, which left him needing constant physiotherapy.

He told Radio 4’s Today programme that living with chronic pain “makes you afraid of basic movements”.

The 67-year-old has said since he was now off medication and pain free.
