Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jon Batiste plans to celebrate Festival Napa Valley’s summer season with a charity concert.
The organization has tapped Batiste to headline its annual Arts for All Gala on July 13, which helps to raise funds for arts programs, scholarships and other education initiatives.
“His boundless positivity, creativity, and passion for bringing people together through music align perfectly with the Gala’s mission to celebrate the transformative power of education and the arts,” Mary Beth Shimmon, who is chairing the event with her husband, Festival Napa Valley board member David Shimmon, said of Batiste via an email.

Two years prior, he won an Academy Award for his work on the score of Pixar’s animated feature “Soul.”
Reservations for the gala are now open for Festival Passport and Opening Weekend Patron passholders and table sponsors. A limited number of individual passes will be available in the spring.
The annual charity event has raised more than $28 million since launching in 2010, and supports education programs, music and wellness initiatives, scholarships and financially accessible concerts.
Guests at the gala will be treated to a dinner by Chef Rogelio Garcia, the executive chef of the Michelin-starred Auro at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley, and each course will be paired with wines from Far Niente Wine Estates. There will also be a live auction featuring luxury getaways, performing arts experiences and wines.

New Orleans cuisine restaurant in Houston hosting fundraiser for victims of New Year’s Day attack on Bourbon Street
HOUSTON – A New Orleans native who owns an oyster restaurant on the southwest side is holding a fundraiser, intended to support families of the victims of the New Year’s Day terrorist attack on Bourbon Street.
14 people were killed and dozens others injured after a man identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a truck through the crowd.
The fundraising effort is happening at the Tiger 2 Step Oyster King restaurant on Richmond Avenue and Fountainview.
Owner, Royal Bellock, just got back from New Orleans Thursday and showed Deven Clarke how he and his staff are now using their native cuisine to inspire Houstonians to lend a helping hand.
“Even though we not there right now, we back and forth and we still in Houston, but we still from New Orleans and that’s where our heart at,” Bellock said. “We had just made it home (to New Orleans) from Houston, it was on the news.”
“Man that took all the air out me, it’s sad to bring the new year in like that, you know what I’m saying?” said Chef Derris Helton. “All them innocent people out there, know what I’m saying, just a terrible situation man.”
“A lot of us people that live in Houston have family members in New Orleans so we know what tragedy feels like,” said activist Candice Matthews. “We know what it means to bind together when it comes to a time of need.”
“We want to be real supportive,” said co-owner Jackquel Johnson. “Until Sunday, January 5th at 7 p.m., each oyster sale, we’re going to take a percentage of that and donate that to the GoFundMe that we have open for them.”
The main idea for the fundraiser is to raise money for the victims families, but also to raise awareness about the tragic incident that happened and the spirit of New Orleans. One that natives say is resilient and can never be defeated.
“We done been through Katrina, we done been through Gustav, we done been through everything man. Like they can’t beat us down man we gonna keep going no matter what,” Bellock said.

Retired jockey Aaron Gryder, who currently serves as senior vice president of racing operations for 1/ST Racing, will be master of ceremonies at the upcoming Jockeys and Jeans Fundraiser to be held at Gulfstream Park Jan. 11. Tickets for the event, which benefits the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, can be purchased at http://pdjf.org/purchase-tickets/.

The fundraiser will include appearances by 17 Hall of Fame jockeys. Among the riders in attendance will be Jean Cruguet and Steve Cauthen, two of the five living Triple Crown-winning jockeys, as well as Sandy Hawley, Chris McCarron and Edgar Prado–three of the four riders who have won over 500 races in a single year.
Also on hand for the day will be “The Soprano” series actor and noted chef Joseph Gannascoli and Anthony “Little Anthony” Gourdine of “Little Anthony and The Imperials” and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Churchill Downs, which hosted the Jockeys and Jeans event in 2022, has donated a package that includes box seating for six at both the 2025 Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby.
