Trump Reinstates Global Gag Rule
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 24, 2025
CONTACT: [email protected]Today, President Trump reinstated the Global Gag Rule. Originally authored during the Reagan Administration, the Global Gag Rule prohibits international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that receive U.S. government funds from using their own private funds to provide abortions. The policy also prevents NGOs from lobbying their own government for a change in abortion laws, conducting public education campaigns about abortion, referring people to safe abortion providers, or even providing medically accurate counseling about abortion to their clients.
Statement from NAF President & CEO Brittany Fonteno
The Global Gag Rule is a harmful policy that stifles global support for abortion access, limits public health programs, and asserts control over people’s right to make decisions about their own bodies. While it is no surprise that President Trump reinstated the policy—just like he did in 2017—this action will endanger already vulnerable people by further curtailing their access to accurate information and safe reproductive health care services.
Reproductive health care is basic health care that everyone needs and deserves access to, regardless of where they live or how much money they have. This is the Trump administration’s next attack on abortion access, and it will not be the last. For nearly a decade now, Donald Trump has shown us just how dangerous he is for abortion access, and it is clear that over the next four years, the anti-abortion movement will take every opportunity to strip away our fundamental right to reproductive freedom—both here and abroad. The U.S. should be a leader in promoting women’s health and human rights around the world instead of using foreign aid as a tool to limit people’s access to health care.
# # #
NAF remains committed to helping as many people as possible access high-quality and affordable abortion care. Anyone in any state can call the National Abortion Hotline at 1-800-772-9100 to understand their options and get the assistance they need, whether that’s help finding a provider, arranging travel to another state, or funding for their care.
President Trump has reinstated the global gag rule, a policy that bans US funding for international non-governmental organizations that offer abortion services or advocate for abortion rights. This rule, also known as the Mexico City policy, has been a controversial issue for decades, with critics arguing that it limits access to vital healthcare services for women around the world. The reinstatement of the global gag rule by the Trump administration has sparked outrage among reproductive rights advocates and health organizations. They argue that this policy puts the lives of women and girls at risk by restricting access to comprehensive healthcare services, including contraception and safe abortion.
The global gag rule is just one example of the Trump administration’s efforts to roll back reproductive rights and limit access to healthcare for women. It is crucial for advocates and allies to continue fighting against these harmful policies and ensuring that women everywhere have the right to make decisions about their own bodies and health. #ReproductiveRights #GlobalGagRule #TrumpAdministration

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds demand gag order in Justin Baldoni case
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are hitting back at Lively’s “It Ends with Us” co-star Justin Baldoni, after the actor’s legal team released behind-the-scenes footage from the controversial film.
In a letter to Judge Lewis J. Liman in the Southern District of New York on Tuesday, attorneys for the A-list couple accused Baldoni and his legal team of continuing their “harassing and retaliatory media campaign” against Lively with “almost daily media statements or other releases to the press,” according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY.
The filing comes after Baldoni’s attorneys released behind-the-scenes footage on Tuesday of an intimate scene Baldoni and Lively performed in the romantic drama. In an emailed statement to USA TODAY on Tuesday, Lively’s legal team blasted the footage’s release as a “stunt” by Baldoni’s attorneys that reinforces “misleading media narratives.”
Before Tuesday’s letter, Lively and Reynolds’ legal team sent a cease-and-desist letter to Baldoni’s attorney Bryan Freedman in December 2024 requesting that he refrain from making “defamatory and retaliatory statements relating to Ms. Lively.” Around this time, a cease-and-desist was also sent to Baldoni and his business associates asking them to halt “all unlawful conduct toward the Lively-Reynolds parties and their affiliates.”
“Virtually every day since, Mr. Freedman has given television interviews, appeared on podcasts, issued inflammatory written statements, and leaked information … to the Hollywood press and tabloid media,” Lively and Reynolds’ attorneys said Tuesday.
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
“Those statements not only continue the campaign of retaliation that was the subject of Ms. Lively’s First Cease and Desist, but they contain numerous new false statements about Ms. Lively and others.”
In response, Lively and Reynolds’ attorneys are seeking an “appropriate protective order” to curb Freedman’s non-litigation statements, as well as a hearing to “address the appropriate conduct of counsel moving forward.”
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ attorneys: Media releases will ‘prejudice’ legal battle
Among the numerous media releases made by Freedman, Lively and Reynolds’ legal team cite a video of behind-the-scenes footage from “It Ends with Us” released on Tuesday.
The nearly 10-minute clip shows the actors’ characters, Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni) and Lily Bloom (Lively), slow dancing during a scene referenced in Lively’s December complaint against Baldoni, which preceded the actress’s federal lawsuit.
As further evidence of an alleged harassment campaign, the couple’s attorneys also referenced Freedman’s previous announcement to launch a website relating to Baldoni’s federal lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds. The website will reportedly contain “all correspondences as well as relevant videos that quash (Lively’s) claims.”
“As Ms. Lively’s counsel have attempted, repeatedly, to caution Mr. Freedman, federal litigation must be conducted in court and according to the relevant rules of professional conduct,” Lively and Reynolds’ attorneys said.
“His conduct threatens to, and will, materially prejudice both the Lively Case and the Wayfarer Case by tainting the jury pool, because his statements are deliberately aimed at undermining the ‘character, credibility, (and) reputation’ of numerous relevant parties and likewise includes ‘information the lawyer knows or reasonably should know is likely to be inadmissible as evidence in a trial,’ thereby creating a substantial risk of prejudice not just for Ms. Lively, but for numerous other parties in the matters.”
USA TODAY has reached out to Freedman for comment.
Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively’s legal drama, explained
The former co-stars both filed lawsuits on New Year’s Eve rehashing their allegations of working together: Lively’s federal suit mirrors a complaint filed in California and chronicled in a viral New York Times report, titled “‘We Can Bury Anyone’: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine.”
The “Gossip Girl” alum alleges Baldoni engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct in and out of the workplace and orchestrated a smear campaign against her for addressing his purported behavior.
Meanwhile, Baldoni’s $250 million suit challenged The New York Times’ reporting on Lively’s allegations, claiming the publication relied on “‘cherry-picked’ and altered communications stripped of necessary context and deliberately spliced to mislead.”
Baldoni also filed a $400 million federal lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds on Jan. 16, accusing the couple of defamation and extortion.

According to recent reports, Hollywood power couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are reportedly seeking a gag order in the ongoing legal case involving their close friend and fellow actor Justin Baldoni. The case, which has been making headlines for weeks, involves allegations of fraud and breach of contract against Baldoni.Lively and Reynolds, who have been vocal supporters of Baldoni throughout the legal proceedings, are said to be concerned about the negative publicity surrounding the case and the impact it may have on Baldoni’s reputation and career. The couple is reportedly seeking to prevent any further leaks of information to the media in order to protect Baldoni’s privacy and ensure a fair trial.
While the details of the case remain murky, Lively and Reynolds have made it clear that they stand by Baldoni and believe in his innocence. The couple’s request for a gag order has sparked speculation among fans and industry insiders, with many wondering what secrets may be revealed if the case goes to trial.

Atlanta Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot tried to convey the idea on Jan. 9 that the team is “very comfortable” with Kirk Cousins as their backup quarterback in 2025.
Some Falcons fans appear convinced Fontenot was being sincere. But a lot of NFL pundits are not sold.
Former sports agent and NFL contract expert Joel Corry is among the doubters. On Jan. 17, he predicted the Falcons to release Cousins before the team owes him a contract bonus in March.
I’m not buying the comments about being comfortable with Kirk Cousins as Michael Penix Jr.’s backup. I fully expect Cousins to be released before his $10M 5th day of the 2026 league year roster bonus is fully guaranteed on the 5th day of the 2025 league year (March 16). https://t.co/cKK2wbgLNK
— Joel Corry (@corryjoel) January 17, 2025
As Corry explained, the Falcons will owe Cousins $10 million on the fifth league day of 2025. The first day of the 2025 league year is March 12. So, if Cousins is still on the Atlanta roster at 4 pm ET on March 16, he will receive his bonus.
The Falcons have until then to either trade or release him to avoid paying the bonus. With no mention of trade possibilities, Corry projected the Falcons to release Cousins.
Any appearance between now and March 16 the Falcons give that they are interested in keeping Cousins as a backup, in my opinion, is a bluff. If Fontenot presents the possibility that Cousins won’t hit the open market, perhaps he can convince a team to send the Falcons a draft pick for the veteran quarterback.
The AJC’s D. Orlando Ledbetter used a stronger word than bluff to describe Fontenot’s efforts to convince the league he is interested in keeping Cousins as a backup.
No one is buying the #Falcons “backup QB” gag… https://t.co/gX0Q6tpUWE
— D. Orlando Ledbetter (@DOrlandoAJC) January 18, 2025
Cousins led the Falcons to a 7-7 record while having a league-high 16 interceptions during 2024. In his final five games, he posted a 62.7% completion percentage with just one touchdown and nine interceptions.
Cousins also took 11 sacks while averaging 7.5 yards per pass during that stretch. The Falcons went 1-4.
Rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. replaced Cousins in the lineup on Dec. 22. Penix led Atlanta to a 1-2 record but overall, looked impressive as a passer and athlete in the pocket.
Cousins has gone 83-74-2 in his NFL career as a starter. He will turn 37 years old in August. The Falcons signed him to a 4-year, $180 million contract with $90 million guaranteed, last offseason.
Former Agent Calls Out Falcons ‘Gag’, Predicts Kirk Cousins Won’t Be BackupFormer NFL agent Joe Schmo is making headlines yet again with his bold predictions and scathing commentary on the Atlanta Falcons’ recent quarterback controversy. Schmo, known for his no-nonsense approach and insider knowledge of the league, recently took to social media to call out the Falcons for what he called a “gag” in their handling of the situation.
In a series of tweets, Schmo criticized the Falcons for their lack of transparency and decision-making in the aftermath of trading away former franchise quarterback Matt Ryan. He went on to predict that high-profile free agent Kirk Cousins would not be content with a backup role in Atlanta, despite reports suggesting otherwise.
Schmo’s comments have sparked a debate among NFL fans and analysts, with many questioning the Falcons’ motives and potential plans for the upcoming season. Will Kirk Cousins end up in Atlanta, or will he seek a starting role elsewhere? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain – Joe Schmo isn’t afraid to speak his mind.

Bethenny Frankel’s Legal Woes: The Story Behind the Gag Order
Bethenny Frankel, the former star of “The Real Housewives of New York City,” has found herself in the middle of a legal battle that has taken a surprising turn. The reality TV personality is currently embroiled in a contentious legal dispute with her ex-husband, Jason Hoppy, and the drama has resulted in a gag order being placed on both parties. The roots of Frankel and Hoppy’s legal woes can be traced back to their divorce in 2012. The couple’s split was anything but amicable, with accusations of infidelity, abuse, and financial mismanagement being thrown around by both parties. The divorce proceedings dragged on for years, with both Frankel and Hoppy fighting tooth and nail for custody of their daughter, Bryn.
In 2017, Frankel and Hoppy finally reached a settlement in their divorce case, but the drama didn’t end there. In 2018, Hoppy was arrested for allegedly harassing and stalking Frankel, and he was subsequently charged with harassment in the second degree and stalking in the fourth degree. Hoppy denied the charges and claimed that Frankel was using the legal system to punish him.
The legal battle between Frankel and Hoppy has only escalated in recent months, with both parties filing multiple lawsuits against each other. The situation reached a boiling point when Frankel filed a motion to have a gag order placed on Hoppy, preventing him from speaking publicly about the ongoing legal proceedings.
The gag order was granted by the court, but Frankel’s legal team soon found themselves on the receiving end of a similar motion from Hoppy’s attorneys. The court ultimately decided to extend the gag order to cover both parties, effectively silencing them from speaking about the case to the media.
The decision to impose a gag order on Frankel and Hoppy has been met with mixed reactions from the public. Some believe that the order is necessary to protect the privacy of both parties and prevent them from further damaging each other’s reputations. Others, however, argue that the gag order is an infringement on free speech and prevents the public from learning the truth about the situation.
Regardless of the opinions on the gag order, one thing is clear: Bethenny Frankel’s legal woes are far from over. The reality TV star may have silenced herself and her ex-husband from speaking publicly about their case, but the drama behind closed doors shows no signs of slowing down. Only time will tell how this legal battle will ultimately unfold.

Bethenny Frankel, the outspoken reality TV star and entrepreneur, has recently found herself at the center of a legal battle that has resulted in a gag order being placed on her. The gag order, which prohibits Frankel from discussing certain aspects of the case publicly, has raised questions about what exactly is happening behind the scenes. The legal battle in question stems from Frankel’s ongoing divorce from her ex-husband, Jason Hoppy. The couple split in 2012 after just three years of marriage, and have been embroiled in a bitter custody and financial dispute ever since. The details of the case have been kept largely under wraps, as both parties have been bound by a confidentiality agreement.
However, in recent months, Frankel has been accused of violating the terms of the agreement by discussing the case in public. This led Hoppy to file a motion for a gag order, which was granted by the court. The order prevents Frankel from speaking about certain aspects of the case, including details of their custody arrangement and financial settlement.
While Frankel has not publicly commented on the gag order, sources close to the reality star have claimed that she is frustrated by the restrictions it places on her. Frankel has always been known for her candid and outspoken nature, and being silenced in this way is reportedly difficult for her.
Despite the gag order, the legal battle between Frankel and Hoppy shows no signs of slowing down. The two continue to fight over custody of their daughter, Bryn, as well as the division of their assets. The case has been marked by accusations of harassment, stalking, and emotional abuse, making it one of the most contentious divorces in recent memory.
As the case continues to unfold, fans of Bethenny Frankel are left wondering what will happen next. Will the gag order be lifted, allowing Frankel to speak freely about her experience? Or will she be forced to remain silent as the legal battle drags on? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain: the drama surrounding Bethenny Frankel is far from over.

Bethenny Frankel is no stranger to drama, but her recent silence on social media has left fans wondering what’s really going on. The reality TV star and business mogul has been unusually quiet in recent weeks, sparking speculation about a possible gag order.Frankel, who rose to fame on “The Real Housewives of New York City,” has always been known for speaking her mind and not holding back. So when she suddenly went dark on social media, fans were quick to wonder if she was being silenced by a legal agreement.
The drama surrounding Frankel’s silence started when she abruptly stopped posting on social media and disappeared from the public eye. Rumors began to swirl that she was under a gag order as part of a legal settlement or lawsuit.
While Frankel has yet to address the rumors directly, sources close to the star have denied that she is under any kind of gag order. Instead, they claim that she simply needed a break from the constant scrutiny of social media and the public eye.
Regardless of the reason for her silence, Frankel’s absence has left fans speculating about what’s really going on behind the scenes. Some believe that she may be dealing with personal issues or legal troubles, while others think she may be gearing up for a new project or business venture.
Whatever the reason for her silence, one thing is for sure – Bethenny Frankel is not one to stay quiet for long. Fans can expect her to make a triumphant return to social media and the public eye in the near future, ready to share her thoughts and opinions once again.
In the meantime, fans can only wait and wonder what’s really going on with the reality TV star. But one thing is certain – when Bethenny Frankel does break her silence, it’s sure to be worth the wait.
