‘College GameDay’ predictions for Arizona State-Texas CFP game

After an exciting regular season and conference championships, the College Football Playoff is finally here. Arizona State is set to face off against Texas in what promises to be an epic showdown. Here are our predictions for the upcoming CFP game:

    1. High-scoring affair: Both Arizona State and Texas boast potent offenses that can put up points in a hurry. Expect a back-and-forth game with plenty of fireworks on the scoreboard.

    2. Quarterback duel: Arizona State’s Jayden Daniels and Texas’ Casey Thompson are two of the top quarterbacks in the country. Look for both signal-callers to put on a show and make big plays throughout the game.

    3. Defensive struggles: While both teams have explosive offenses, their defenses have had their fair share of struggles this season. Don’t be surprised if this game turns into a shootout with little resistance from either defense.

Game #36: Ducks vs. Devils Gameday Preview

In their final game of 2024, the Ducks will take on the New Jersey Devils. The Ducks are coming off a stellar comeback victory on Sunday against the Edmonton Oilers, a terrific response from their 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers the previous day. The Devils come into town on three days’ rest after falling 5-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Dec. 28.

In the previous matchup between the Ducks and the Devils in New Jersey, the latter got the best of the former. The Devils tacked on six goals in their Oct. 27 victory over the Ducks, who were on the second game of a back-to-back (SEGABABA).

Ducks forward Leo Carlsson emphasized how dangerous the Devils are because of their speed and that the Ducks’ legs were “just not there” in that 6-2 loss.

Related: Takeaways from the Ducks Losses to the Rangers and Devils

“I think it’s a different game when we play at Honda Center,” Carlsson said. “We got a great win yesterday (against the Oilers) too. (We want to) build off of that.”

After missing the last two games due to illness, John Gibson appears ready to return to game action. He was a full participant in today’s practice and could potentially be in line to start tomorrow against the Devils after Lukáš Dostál worked both ends of the matinee back-to-back this past weekend.

Brock McGinn (lower-body) was placed on injured reserve before Sunday’s game against the Oilers, leaving the Ducks without a healthy extra forward for the time being.

    Ducks Projected Lines

Islanders Gameday News: Curse this year

Happy New Year[‘s Eve]! Well, besides the hockey, I mean.

The Islanders are in Toronto for an odd New Year’s Eve afternoon game, a 1 EDT start. If you were unaware of that early start time, congratulations on not having to sit through it.

True, the Islanders did win in Toronto just 10 days ago in their “most complete performance” of the season, etc. But we know what they are, an inconsistent and maddening bunch who can’t string three wins together, and usually can’t even string two.

So they followed that win up with ups and downs like this past weekend’s home-and-home with the Penguins where they won with some sure-handed play at home before being listless for most of the night in Pittsburgh.

Tonight they’re in Toronto, the first of a home-and-home that straddles the New Year, and they can put an end to this, well, pretty boring 2024.

Leave your First Islanders Goal picks here.

Islanders Gameday News: Curse this year

It seems like the New York Islanders just can’t catch a break this season. From injuries to key players to tough losses in overtime, it feels like a dark cloud has been hanging over the team all year long.

The latest blow came in the form of another heartbreaking loss in their last game, as they fell to their division rival in a close match. The loss dropped them further down in the standings and made their playoff hopes look dimmer than ever.

Fans are starting to wonder if there’s a curse on the team this year, as every time they seem to be gaining momentum, something goes wrong. Whether it’s a questionable call by the referees or a key player getting injured, it’s been one setback after another for the Islanders.

But despite the tough times, the team is staying positive and vowing to turn things around. They know they have the talent and the drive to make a late-season push and secure a spot in the playoffs. It’s just a matter of overcoming the obstacles in their way and finding a way to break the curse that seems to be lingering over them.

So, Islanders fans, don’t lose hope just yet. There’s still time for the team to turn things around and make a run for the playoffs. Keep the faith and cheer them on as they battle through this challenging season. Let’s hope that the curse will be lifted soon and the Islanders can start winning games again.

  • Gameday 37 Preview: Flyers vs. Ducks

Gameday 37 Preview: Flyers vs. Ducks

The Philadelphia Flyers return to action after the holiday break with a matchup against the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center. After a 7-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins just before the pause, the Flyers are looking to reset, regroup, and make a statement in their first game back.

The break has offered valuable time to address lingering issues and refocus on building consistency in their play. Here are three things Flyers fans should know before tonight’s game.

View the original article to see embedded media.

Jamie Drysdale Returns to Familiar Ice

Tonight marks Jamie Drysdale’s first game back at the Honda Center since the blockbuster trade in January that sent him to Philadelphia in exchange for Cutter Gauthier.

While the trade was initially met with mixed reactions, Drysdale has made a strong impression in Philadelphia. His smooth skating, poise under pressure, and ability to transition the puck have quickly earned him a spot as a key piece on the Flyers’ blue line. Flyers head coach John Tortorella has praised Drysdale’s adaptability, and his consistent play has made him a fixture in Philadelphia’s defensive pairings.

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Jamie Drysdale (9).<p>Megan DeRuchie-The Hockey News</p>Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Jamie Drysdale (9).<p><button class=
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Jamie Drysdale (9).

    Megan DeRuchie-The Hockey News

Tonight, Drysdale will have a chance to show his former team what they’re missing while continuing to solidify his role with the Flyers. Expect emotions to run high, but if there’s one thing Drysdale has demonstrated, it’s his ability to perform under the spotlight.

A Rested Squad Looks to Reset

The Flyers’ holiday break couldn’t have come at a better time. After a frustrating loss in Pittsburgh that highlighted ongoing issues with defensive cohesion and puck management, the team had four days to rest and reset both mentally and physically.

The Flyers have shown encouraging signs throughout the season, with their offense displaying adaptability and depth and their young core stepping up in key moments. However, consistency remains elusive, and lapses in discipline have cost the team valuable points. The break has given them a chance to address these challenges, and tonight’s game represents an opportunity to turn a new page.

Anaheim presents a manageable yet meaningful test. While the Ducks are a team in transition, they have the speed and creativity to capitalize on mistakes. For the Flyers, this game is about proving they can dictate the pace and maintain focus for a full 60 minutes. A win tonight would not only be a step in the right direction but could also serve as a confidence boost as they embark on a demanding west coast road trip.

    Sam Ersson Back in Net

Sam Ersson will make his third consecutive start tonight, continuing what appears to be John Tortorella’s decision to move forward with a tandem of Ersson and Aleksei Kolosov. Ersson’s recent outings have been a mixed bag—solid stretches of play have been punctuated by moments he’d undoubtedly like to have back.

At the same time, the Flyers’ defense will need to provide Ersson with more support than they did in Pittsburgh, where turnovers and blown assignments left their goaltenders exposed. Ersson has proven capable of making big saves, but he’ll need a team-wide effort to keep Anaheim’s offensive opportunities to a minimum.

The Philadelphia Flyers are gearing up to take on the Anaheim Ducks in a highly anticipated matchup on Gameday 37. Both teams are looking to secure a crucial win as they continue to jockey for playoff positioning.

The Flyers, led by captain Claude Giroux and standout goaltender Carter Hart, have been playing some of their best hockey as of late. With a potent offense and stingy defense, they are a formidable opponent for any team in the league.

On the other side, the Ducks are looking to bounce back from a recent slump and get back on track. With stars like Ryan Getzlaf and John Gibson leading the way, they have the talent and skill to compete with the best in the league.

This game is sure to be a thrilling battle between two talented teams. Will the Flyers continue their hot streak and come out on top? Or will the Ducks rise to the occasion and secure a much-needed victory? Tune in to find out on Gameday 37 as these two teams face off in what promises to be an exciting and intense matchup.
