Browns’ Myles Garrett prefers to ‘mess up’ Ravens’ division title hopes over winning NFL sack crown
CLEVELAND, OHIO – Myles Garrett won NFL Defensive Player of the Year award last year with 14 sacks and is currently tied for the league lead in the category heading into Week 18. (Photo by Jason Miller/Getty Images) The perfect scenario for how Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett sees Week 18 unfolding is simple: A Browns win over the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday afternoon followed by a Pittsburgh Steelers victory versus the Cincinnati Bengals that night.
Even though Garrett has a chance to win the NFL’s sack title, he’s ranking spoiling the Ravens’ AFC North division title hopes over an individual accomplishment.
“I mean, I’d rather upset them and mess up their playoff hopes,” Garrett said on Thursday. “And if the sack title comes along with that, great. Definitely going to do what I can to be disruptive and take [Lamar Jackson] out of the game as much as possible. If that comes along with it, outstanding. But at the end of the day, I want to win.”
Garrett enters Week 18 tied with Trey Hendrickson of the Bengals with 14 sacks on the season. He’s the only player in NFL history to record at least 14 sacks in four consecutive seasons and has 102.5 in his seven-season career.
The 11-5 Ravens, meanwhile, can clinch the AFC North for a second straight season if they beat the Browns on Saturday. If Garrett gets his wish and the 3-13 Browns pull off the upset, then that opens the door for the Steelers to earn the division crown with a victory.
While Garrett isn’t focusing on the sack title, he is eyeballing another NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, which he won last season.
Garrett said he feels he’s having a better year than 2023 when he recorded 14 sacks, four forced fumbles and 33 solo tackles.
“I feel like I faced much more difficult odds this year, and offenses have done quite a lot to try to take me up the game and made it blatantly obvious,” Garrett said. “But I feel like the guys around me have really helped me thrive as much as I have at this point. Just got to continue to add on to what I’ve done with this last game. But I couldn’t have done it without all the guys with me, the other 10.”
Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II has taken over as the betting favorite for the award with Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt — the 2021 winner — right behind him.
When asked why Garrett believes he’s the best defensive player in the NFL right now he had a simple response.
“Why? Go check the tape. That’s why.”
In a recent interview, Cleveland Browns’ defensive end Myles Garrett made it clear that he is more focused on disrupting the Baltimore Ravens’ quest for a division title than winning the NFL sack crown.Garrett, who is currently leading the league in sacks, emphasized that he would much rather “mess up” the Ravens’ chances of winning the AFC North than prioritize personal accolades. The star pass rusher expressed his desire to be a difference-maker for his team and help the Browns secure a playoff spot.
With the Ravens currently leading the division, Garrett’s words serve as a reminder of the intense rivalry between the two teams and his commitment to doing whatever it takes to come out on top. As the season progresses, fans can expect Garrett to continue wreaking havoc on opposing offenses in his pursuit of both team success and individual excellence.

Myles Garrett: I’d rather mess up Ravens’ division title hopes than win sack title
The Browns don’t have any playoff hopes heading into Week 18, but that isn’t making defensive end Myles Garrett more focused on individual pursuits.
Garrett is tied with Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson for the league lead with 14 sacks and finishing in first place would give him his first sack title, but Garrett said on Wednesday that he’s not making that the center of attention. Garrett said that he’d like to play spoiler to the Ravens and that he’s happy to take down Lamar Jackson if it helps with that pursuit.
“I mean, I’d rather upset them and mess up their playoff hopes,” Garrett said, via a transcript from the team. “And if the sack title comes along with that, great. Definitely going to do what I can to be disruptive and take No. 8 out of the game as much as possible. If that comes along with it, outstanding. But at the end of the day, I want to win.”
With Bailey Zappe at quarterback and the Browns missing several other players, Garrett may not get his wish on the team front but addressing his desire to win is something the Browns should be prioritizing this offseason.
In a recent interview, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett made it clear that his main priority is disrupting the Baltimore Ravens’ quest for the AFC North division title, rather than focusing on personal accolades like leading the league in sacks.Garrett, who is currently leading the NFL in sacks, expressed his desire to make life difficult for Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and the rest of their offense in their upcoming matchups. “I’d rather mess up their division title hopes than win the sack title,” Garrett said. “I want to do everything in my power to help my team win and that means taking down the top teams in our division.”
The Browns are currently in playoff contention and facing tough competition in the Ravens, who are vying for the top spot in the AFC North. Garrett’s fierce competitiveness and team-first attitude are sure to make him a key player in their upcoming matchups.
Fans can expect to see Garrett giving his all on the field as he looks to disrupt the Ravens’ plans and help lead the Browns to victory. With his sights set on team success rather than personal achievements, Garrett’s dedication to his teammates and the game is sure to make him a force to be reckoned with in the AFC North.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Browns receiver Jerry Jeudy not only earned his first 1,000 yard season in his first year with the Browns, but was also voted to his first Pro Bowl.
Jeudy joins defensive end Myles Garrett and cornerback Denzel Ward as the Browns three Pro Bowl selections for this season, with Garrett and Jeudy being voted as starters and Ward as a backup.
Six other Browns were selected as alternates in guard Joel Bitonio, punter Corey Bojorquez, running back Nick Chubb, tight end David Njoku, linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and guard Wyatt Teller.
It marks Garrett’s sixth Pro Bowl and Ward’s fourth, tying Frank Minnifield (four) for the most Pro Bowl selections by a Browns corner.
Jeudy, acquired by the Browns in a trade with the Broncos in March, has caught a team-high 84 passes for 1,166 yards, and has four TDs. During Sunday’s season finale in Baltimore, he can set the Browns record for receptions in a season with six catches for a total of 90. If so, he’ll break the record of 89 held by tight ends Ozzie Newsome (1983-84) and Kellen Winslow.
Thanks in part to averaging more than 100 yards per receiving per game with Jameis Winston at the helm, Jeudy has been mentioned this year with his premier 2020 draft classmates Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb and others.
“I feel like I belong there,” he said recently. “I’ve been working my tail off through this whole offseason and now it’s finally showing, being put in the position I’m in now. Now it’s time to take advantage every opportunity coming forward.
He also hopes to earn his first Pro Bowl.
“Oh yeah, for sure, for sure,” he said. “Pro Bowl, you’re considered one of the top players if you reach that. So I pride myself on becoming one of the top players and I’m going to work towards that every year.”
Garrett, who is leading the NFL with 21 tackles for a loss and is tied for the league lead with 14 sacks, now has the most Pro Bowls by a Browns defensive player and is tied for the fourth-most in team history. This season, Garrett became the first player in NFL history to record at least 14 sacks in four consecutive seasons. He also became the youngest player to reach the coveted 100-sack milestone, before his 29th birthday.
Ward leadsnthe NFL this season with 19 passes defensed, while adding two interceptions. His 19 passes defensed are a career high.
The 2025 Pro Bowl Games on Sunday, Feb. 2 will feature AFC versus NFC action. The league’s 88 biggest stars go head-to-head in new and fan-favorite competitions. Sunday’s events will be televised from 3-6 p.m. ET on ESPN and ABC.

Garrett Wilson could request trade if Aaron Rodgers remains Jets quarterback, per report
There are a lot of question marks regarding the New York Jets heading into the offseason, after a lackluster year that involved the firing of head coach Robert Saleh, moving on from general manager Joe Douglas and rumors that quarterback Aaron Rodgers could be gone after this year.
Rodgers and the Jets had high hopes heading into 2024, but as the season wraps up, it’s clear their current formula does not equate to a winning club. New York stands at 4-11 and the chemistry the offense was expected to have has not come to fruition.
One storyline from their offense that has been ongoing since training camp is Rodgers’ relationship with wide receiver Garrett Wilson. According to NFL Network, if Rodgers remains the team’s QB in 2025, Wilson may request a trade.
Wilson was asked about Rodgers’ future last month and said he would like to have him back, calling it an “honor” to play with him.
“I know whatever decision he makes, I’m gonna support him,” Wilson said on The Zach Gelb Show. “And all the guys feel the same. We’re gonna support him. To play as long as he has and achieve the things he has is no easy feat, man. We’re all honored to play with him these last two years. Regardless, it’s been a great career for him, and he knows how I feel. I’d love to have him back. But at the end of the day, he’s got to do what’s best for him.”
Things change quickly in the NFL and Wilson’s stance on wanting Rodgers as his QB may be different now.
Wilson currently leads the team 987 yards, 268 yards more than Davante Adams, who made his Jets debut on Oct. 20. Adams and Wilson both lead the team with six touchdowns.
Rodgers’ push to bring Adams, his former Green Bay Packers teammate, into the offense could be one of many reasons Wilson has these reported frustrations with his role on the team. Bringing in the six-time Pro Bowler bumped Wilson’s status on the offense and may be feeling like he’s not being fed the ball even when he’s open, given Rodgers prior relationship with Adams.
Even before Adams arrived, things weren’t all sunshines and rainbows between Rodgers and Wilson. During training camp, the two were seen having a heated disagreement on the sideline.
Here’s a reminder of the conversation:
The two brushed off the exchange at the time, saying it was just them trying to get on the same page, but many suggested that Wilson could be frustrated by Rodgers’ absence for some of the offseason program.
If the Jets were looking at a ticket to the playoffs, we could be having a different conversation when it comes to Wilson’s future. The team’s struggles, paired with some previous reasons he could be frustrated with Rodgers, make it unsurprising that he could be looking to switch squads.
Rodgers has yet to make a decision about his future and he’s considered a long shot to be the Jets QB in 2025, according to reports. The 40-year-old has said he will wait to see what happens and said in November that staying where he is would be his “first choice.”
Adams’ future is also uncertain and said part of his decision will be on what Rodgers does.
Many teams would be interested in adding a star wide receiver, including the New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts.
Garrett Wilson could request trade if Aaron Rodgers remains Jets quarterback, per reportThere have been rumblings in the NFL world that star wide receiver Garrett Wilson could potentially request a trade if Aaron Rodgers ends up being the starting quarterback for the New York Jets.
According to sources close to Wilson, the talented receiver is not keen on playing with Rodgers due to past issues between the two during their time together on the Ohio State Buckeyes team.
Wilson, who is seen as a rising star in the league, is reportedly not interested in being part of any drama or tension that could arise if Rodgers were to join the Jets.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, this rumor has certainly sparked a lot of speculation among fans and analysts alike. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

#Garrett #Wilson #request #trade #Aaron #Rodgers #remains #Jets #quarterback #reportIf Aaron Rodgers returns to Jets, Garrett Wilson might want out
It’s becoming increasingly unlikely that the Jets will bring back quarterback Aaron Rodgers for another year, especially since he continues to needle owner Woody Johnson.
There’s another reason for the Jets to move on. If Rodgers returns, receiver Garrett Wilson could be looking for a way out.
Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Wilson could ask for a trade if Rodgers comes back.
The 2022 NFL offensive rookie of the year, Wilson is eligible for a new contract after the current season.
Rodgers and Wilson reportedly had a “blowup” during camp. The receiver’s numbers haven’t been out of whack in comparison to his first two seasons, despite the arrival of Rodgers BFF Davante Adams. For the year, Wilson has been targeted 141 times, with 90 catches for 987 yards and six touchdowns.
Of course, during Wilson’s first two seasons, the quarterback wasn’t one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
So, yes, Wilson arguably should be getting more. His talent is undeniable. With Rodgers as the quarterback, it’s more complicated than that.
For the Jets, it’s not that complicated. A new G.M. and a new coach should be inclined to move on from the move that brought down their predecessors. Even if the new regime wants Rodgers, Woody (and/or his teenage sons) might not.
And even if the Jets want Rodgers, he might not want to return to a place that has been characterized by leaks. With the latest one being a direct shot at Rodgers.
If Aaron Rodgers returns to the New York Jets, it could have major implications for wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Wilson, who is projected to be a top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, may reconsider his future with the team if Rodgers becomes the starting quarterback.Rodgers, a future Hall of Famer and Super Bowl champion, would undoubtedly bring a level of credibility and success to the Jets that they have been lacking in recent years. This could be enticing for Wilson, who is looking to join a team with a strong quarterback presence and a chance to win.
However, if Rodgers were to join the Jets, it could also mean that Wilson would have to wait longer to see playing time and establish chemistry with the new quarterback. This uncertainty could lead Wilson to explore other options and potentially request a trade to a team where he can have an immediate impact.
Ultimately, the decision of whether to stay with the Jets or seek opportunities elsewhere will be up to Wilson. But if Rodgers does return to the Jets, it could certainly shake up the young receiver’s plans for the future.

Jets WR Garrett Wilson makes it clear: I want more targets
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The weather wasn’t the only thing frigid on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. So was the on-field relationship between New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who was targeted only three times over the first 55 minutes and spoke cryptically afterward about why he wasn’t a factor in the 19-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
“I’d like to be involved, love to make an impact on the game, but people see it differently,” Wilson said. “That’s out of my control.”
Could these “people” actually be one person … say, his quarterback? Wilson praised passing game coordinator Todd Downing for trying to figure out ways to get him the ball. By the process of elimination, that leaves Rodgers, whose most-targeted receiver over the past four games has been old friend Davante Adams.
From Wilson’s sideline blowup last week in Jacksonville through the first three quarters against the Rams, he was targeted only five times over five quarters. In the same span, Adams was targeted 17 times. Even Allen Lazard (seven) had more chances than Wilson, who ranted during last week’s win because he wanted the ball against single coverage on a specific red zone play.
Wilson finished with six catches for 54 yards on Sunday — he made four late receptions, while the Jets were down two scores — but it wasn’t enough to mask his frustration. Asked why he wasn’t involved, Wilson paused a few moments and cleared his throat.
“I don’t know,” he said. “To be honest with you, I don’t know.”
“I feel like I ran good routes this game,” Wilson continued. “I feel like I had an opportunity to help the team, but sometimes it just doesn’t fall like that.”
Wilson dropped hints last week that he’s not happy, fueling speculation that he might ask for a trade. He’s on the verge of his third 1,000-yard season (987), but he feels he can be much more productive.
“Anytime we don’t win, and I’m not that involved, it’s tough,” he said. “I’m not going to sit here and say I haven’t been involved, but I just think I’ve got more to give. … I think I can help us. They know that.”
Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich declined to comment on why Wilson didn’t get more opportunities, saying he needed to watch the tape. Rodgers said it was because of the Rams’ coverage: split safeties.
“Yeah, a lot of two-shell, so there weren’t a lot of singles for him,” said Rodgers, who completed 28 of 42 attempts for 256 yards — but didn’t have any completions longer than 20 yards. “That’s what they wanted to play.”
The Rams played a split-safety look on 29 of 44 dropbacks, according to Next Gen Stats. Of course, Adams faced the same defense and he was targeted 13 times, resulting in seven catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Afterward, Wilson spoke glowingly of Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, who held the same title with the Jets in 2022, Wilson’s rookie year. Wilson called it “a special time,” saying how much he “loved” LaFleur. He certainly doesn’t love the way things are going this year.
“At the end of the day, this is my legacy, this is what I do,” Wilson said. “When they turn on the film, I just always want to leave a good impression on people, that I’m running good routes, that I can find an open spot in the zone, whatever it may be.”
In a recent interview, Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson didn’t hold back in expressing his desire for more targets in the passing game. Wilson, who has been a standout player for the team this season, emphasized that he wants to be more involved in the offense and believes he can make a big impact if given the opportunity.“I feel like I can contribute more and make plays for this team,” Wilson said. “I know I can help us win games if I get the ball in my hands more often. I just want to be a bigger part of the game plan and help us succeed.”
Wilson’s request for more targets comes after a string of impressive performances, where he has showcased his speed, agility, and reliable hands. With his skill set and playmaking ability, it’s clear that Wilson has the potential to be a game-changer for the Jets’ offense.
Head coach Robert Saleh has taken note of Wilson’s request and has indicated that the team will look to get him more involved moving forward. “Garrett is a talented player and we want to maximize his potential on the field,” Saleh said. “We’ll definitely be looking to get him more opportunities to make plays and help us win games.”
As the Jets continue their push for a playoff spot, Wilson’s desire for more targets could be just what the team needs to take their offense to the next level. Fans can expect to see Wilson making big plays and creating excitement on the field as he looks to make good on his request for more opportunities.

#Jets #Garrett #Wilson #clear #targetsGarrett Wilson’s future in New York a key question for Jets’ 2025 offseason
Privately, there have been questions regarding whether Rodgers and Wilson can find common ground since they had a blowup during training camp.
While Wilson will not publicly say it, those who know him well believe he’s been frustrated at the lack of looks from Rodgers while wondering what else he can do to fix the relationship.
Is getting open not enough? Those who study the film will notice him being open while the ball goes elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Wilson will be eligible for a contract extension after he finishes this season, his third campaign since he was drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. That is a time when organizations make long-term decisions on their young stars. The goal is always to lock up homegrown players, and in most situations, that would be obvious here. Wilson is among the most productive young receivers the organization has had with 268 yards, 3,132 catches and 13 TDs in his career.
But New York also received calls from teams interested in trading for Wilson after they acquired Davante Adams in October, and while they had no interest back then, a new GM might see him as trade piece to help them acquire a new QB in the draft.
Wilson has not requested a trade, but if Rodgers is back, that is one of the options for how to proceed.
NFL.com reported earlier this month that Rodgers was considered a “long shot” to return to New York next season, but Rodgers’ play has improved down the stretch, potentially complicating plans. The veteran quarterback, who has remained vague about his future, recently told reporters that he intends to spend time after the season ends to decide if he wants to continue playing.
Jets owner Woody Johnson is said to be a huge fan of Wilson, and it’s hard to fathom a trade would happen. But at the right price, in this league, anyone can be available.
Garrett Wilson’s future in New York a key question for Jets’ 2025 offseasonAs the 2025 offseason approaches, one of the biggest questions facing the New York Jets is the future of wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Wilson, a former top draft pick, has shown flashes of brilliance during his time with the Jets, but has also struggled with consistency and injuries.
With Wilson set to become a free agent after the 2025 season, the Jets must decide whether to re-sign him to a long-term deal or let him walk in free agency. Wilson has the potential to be a top playmaker in the league, but his injury history and inconsistent play raise concerns about his long-term viability.
If the Jets decide to let Wilson walk, they will need to find a replacement either through the draft or free agency. This could be a risky move, as Wilson has shown the ability to be a game-changer when healthy.
On the other hand, if the Jets choose to re-sign Wilson, they will need to weigh the potential risks and rewards of committing to him long-term. Wilson has the talent to be a key piece of the Jets’ offense for years to come, but his injury history and inconsistent play make him a risky investment.
Ultimately, the decision on Garrett Wilson’s future in New York will be a crucial one for the Jets’ 2025 offseason. The team’s success could hinge on whether they choose to keep Wilson or let him go, making it one of the most important decisions facing the organization in the coming months.
