It seems that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens can’t stay out of the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Most recently it was what seemed to be some lazy route running against the Kansas City Chiefs that resulted in quarterback Russell Wilson throwing an interception in the end zone.
At this point, the only person not blaming Pickens for what happened is head coach Mike Tomlin. In Tomlin’s opinion, Pickens cutting off his route short had zero to do with what went wrong.
Literally everyone else, including Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger, saw it differently. Roethlisberger talked about it on his podcast and he didn’t hold back. According to Roethlisberger and literally every NFL analyst, Pickens running a lazy route allowed Chiefs safety Justin Reid to roll to the middle and make the pick in front of tight end Pat Freiermuth. If Pickens runs his go route hard, Reid has to shade to his side and Freiermuth probably catches an easy touchdown.
In a recent interview, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger didn’t hold back when discussing rookie wide receiver George Pickens. Roethlisberger praised Pickens’ work ethic, natural talent, and ability to make big plays on the field.
“I’ve been really impressed with George Pickens since he joined the team,” Roethlisberger said. “He’s got a great attitude, he’s a hard worker, and he’s got some serious skills. I think he’s going to be a real playmaker for us this season.”
Roethlisberger also highlighted Pickens’ speed, route-running ability, and hands, saying that he sees a lot of potential in the young receiver. “I think George has a bright future ahead of him in this league,” Roethlisberger added.

Protecting the home court and limiting losses on the road in conference play is the key to topping the standings in the A-10. The Dayton Flyers accomplished one of those goals last season, finishing 9-0 at UD Arena in conference games, but lost four times in nine tries on the road.
Dayton’s first A-10 road test of the 2024-25 season comes at noon Saturday against George Washington (11-3) at the Charles E. Smith Center in Washington, D.C. in the second A-10 game of the season. It will be the first true road game of the season for Dayton (11-3). The Flyers have played 10 home games and four games on neutral courts.
“It’s conference play, so we understand every game we have to expect to get our opponents’ best,” Dayton coach Anthony Grant said Tuesday after a 74-60 victory against La Salle, “so we have to be prepared to bring our best. We understand that it’s a different environment, and so the energy will be different for us. It comes down to having a mature team, a team that has good leadership and a team that understands we’ve got to do the hard stuff all the way through, whether it’s at home or on the road.”
Here are 10 things to know about the matchup:
1. Series history: Dayton leads the series 23-18. UD won 83-61 last season at UD Arena.
Two years ago in Dayton’s last visit to George Washington, it lost 76-69. No one from George Washington who played in that game remains with the team. Malachi Smith is the only Dayton player remaining from that game.
Prior to the 2023 game, Dayton had won six straight games in the series and three straight at the Smith Center since an 87-81 loss in the final game of the 2017 regular season.
2. Tough place to play: Dayton is 6-14 at the Smith Center since 1996. George Washington is 8-0 at home this season. It has won 18 straight non-conference home games. Last season, though, the Revolutionaries were 3-6 at home in A-10 games.
George Washington ranks 13th out of 15 teams in the A-10 in average attendance (1,599). Two years ago, it drew a crowd of 2,380 for Dayton.
“These games are kind of tough just because we have to pick up our energy and our intensity,” Smith said. “It’s probably not going to be a big crowd, like we’re used to playing in front of, but this is what we’ve got to do to get the A-10 championship.”
3. State of the program: George Washington, which was picked to finish 13th in the A-10 preseason poll, is trying to end a streak of seven straight non-winning seasons in coach Chris Caputo’s third season. It finished 16-16 two years ago and 15-17 last season. The program last reached the NCAA tournament in 2014.
4. Disappointing start: In its A-10 opener Tuesday, George Washington trailed Richmond 32-21 in the first minute of the second half. It then outscored Richmond 31-7 in a 10-minute stretch to build a 52-39 lead.
Richmond (6-8) responded with its own comeback and outscored George Washington 9-0 in the last 90 seconds to win 66-61 in Richmond.
5. Schedule strength: George Washington’s non-conference strength of schedule ranked last in the country out of 364 teams, according to KenPom.com. It beat two teams ranked in the top 200 of the NCAA Evaluation Tool: No. 130 Illinois State; and No. 182 Hampton. It lost 83-71 to No. 108 Kansas State, the top-ranked opponent on its non-conference schedule. Its worst loss was to No. 255 American.

6. Transfer portal loss: Maximus Edwards, a 6-foot-5 guard, transferred to Duquesne after averaging 11.5 points in two seasons at George Washington. He’s averaging 6.1 points this season.
7. Top returner: Darren Buchanan, a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward, leads the team in scoring (15.1) after ranking second last season (15.6). He scored 13 points against Dayton last season.
8. Top transfers: Gerald Drumgoole, a 6-5 sixth-year guard, ranks second on the team in scoring (13.8). He played last season at Delaware. Earlier in his career, he spent two seasons at Pittsburgh and then two at Albany. He made 7 of 13 3-pointers against Richmond and scored 27 points.
• Rafael Castro, a 6-10 junior forward, ranks third in scoring (10.1) and first in rebounding (9.0). He played limited minutes the last two seasons at Providence. Castro had Dayton in his final three but committed to Providence in September 2020.
9. Strengths and weaknesses: George Washington ranks second in the A-10 in scoring (78.5 points per game). Dayton is fifth (77.6).
George Washington ranks 11th in the A-10 in 3-point shooting percentage (32.5). It made 10 of 32 3s (31.2%) against Richmond. Dayton ranks fourth in the A-10 (35.2) but has shot under 30% in four straight games.
10. Odds & Ends: KenPom.com gives Dayton a 78% chance of winning and predicts a 78-69 score. Dayton ranks 30th in the Pomeroy ratings. George Washington is No. 138.

President Joe Biden will bestow the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 19 of the most famous names in politics, sports, entertainment, civil rights, LGBTQ+ advocacy and science.
The White House said the recipients have made “exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors.”
Four medals are to be awarded posthumously. They are going to Fannie Lou Hamer, who founded the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party and laid the groundwork for the 1965 Voting Rights Act; former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy; George W. Romney, who served as both a Michigan governor and secretary of housing and urban development; and Ash Carter, the former secretary of defense.
Kennedy is father to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for health and human services secretary. Romney is the father of former Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney, one of Trump’s strongest conservative critics.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden will award the nation’s highest civilian honor to more than a dozen politicians, philanthropists and cultural icons, the White House announced Saturday.
The list of 19 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients includes former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and billionaire donor George Soros. The recipients are scheduled to receive the awards at a White House ceremony Saturday. Four people are being honored posthumously.
The medal is “presented to individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors,” the White House said in a news release.
“These nineteen Americans are great leaders who have made America a better place,” the statement added. “They are great leaders because they are good people who have made extraordinary contributions to their country and the world.”
Clinton is set to receive the award about two weeks before her former political rival, President-elect Donald Trump, is sworn in for a second term. In 2016, Clinton became the first woman nominated by a major party for president before losing to Trump.
Soros, who founded the Open Society Foundations, has contributed more than $32 billion to his organization, which supports a variety of human rights and pro-democracy causes, according to his website. He is also a major Democratic donor.
Other recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Saturday include humanitarian and chef José Andrés, whose World Central Kitchen has helped provide food for civilians in war zones and areas hit by natural disasters; Jane Goodall, a highly acclaimed conservationist and scientist; and Bill Nye, a science educator who rose to fame with the show “Bill Nye the Science Guy.”
Biden will honor multiple recipients posthumously, including Robert F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1968 during a presidential run. Kennedy was a senator representing New York and had served as attorney general during the administration of his brother, President John F. Kennedy.
Also being honored posthumously is Ashton Carter, who was secretary of defense during the Obama administration and oversaw the United States’ push against the Islamic State, and George Romney, the governor of Michigan during the 1960s and the father of former Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah.
Biden himself received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2017 during the final days of the Obama administration. Then-President Barack Obama surprised Biden with the award, which was presented “with distinction,” an added honor.
Biden has awarded the medal to dozens of others during his four years in office. The ceremonies usually take place about once a year, though Biden also awarded former Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards with the medal in November.
Earlier this week, Biden awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal to 20 recipients, including Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo. Thompson and Cheney served on the House Jan. 6 committee and have faced Trump’s ire. The Presidential Citizens Medal is the second-highest civilian honor, behind the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

2011 was a heck of a year for Ryan Gosling. The “Barbie” actor starred in “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” “Drive” and “The Ides of March”, and while the first two (rightfully) remain iconic to this day, the latter has unfortunately faded into the background and isn’t remembered quite as fondly. Fortunately, “The Ides of March” has just arrived on Prime Video this week and the film certainly holds up in 2025.
Also starring George Clooney (who also serves as director and co-screenwriter), “The Ides of March” is a phenomenal political thriller that is bursting with dramatic tension and if the one-two punch of Gosling and Clooney wasn’t enough to get your vote, the supporting cast is equally star-studded. It’s a movie that I’ve revisited numerous times over the years and continue to adore just as much to this day.
So, if you skipped this overlooked thriller back in 2011, or if it never found its way onto your radar (you can be forgiven, it didn’t make a huge cultural splash upon release), its arrival on Prime Video in the U.S. is your chance to circle back and experience this gripping political drama.
What is “The Ides of March” about?
Based on the play “Farragut North” by Beau Willimon, “The Ides of March” sees Ryan Gosling step into the role of Stephen Meyers, a junior campaign manager for the Governor of Pennsylvania Mike Morris (Clooney), who is currently competing in the Democratic presidential primary with eyes on the White House
For Meyers this is more than a job, he genuinely believes that Morris will change America, for the better. But when he’s offered a position by the opponent’s campaign manager (Paul Giamatti) and begins a romantic involvement with an intern (Evan Rachel Wood), Meyer finds himself walking a fine line between professional and personal conflicts.
Things get even more heated when he discovers uncomfortable truths about Morris, and he’s forced to accept that the wannabe president he idolizes may not be the beacon of virtue that he’d thought. And this drama comes before the opposition plays their hand too.
Also starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jeffrey Wright (see what I mean about a phenomenal cast), “The Ides of March” combines smart writing with strong performances. And it’s a must-watch now that it’s on Amazon Prime Video.
Here’s why you should stream “The Ides of March” on Prime Video

“The Ides of March” definitely isn’t as topical as it was upon release. Without opening a can of worms, let’s just say the U.S. political landscape has shifted a lot in the past decade-and-a-half, but the flick is still worth watching even in 2025, thanks to its sharp writing and strong performances, especially from its leads. George Clooney and Ryan Gosling are fantastic and feed off each other perfectly.
Perhaps my favorite aspect of the movie is how the power dynamics constantly shift. You never quite know who is going to come out on top or which side is playing the other. Over the course of the 100-minute runtime, we see Gosling’s Meyers experience crushing defeats and extreme highs, and the same is true of most of the cast. It’s a reminder that in the political game, victories are hard-fought but also fleeting, with the ground never stable and powerplays often backfiring.

Clooney proves to be just as electric behind the camera as in front of it and keeps the movie moving forward at an engaging pace. This isn’t a political drama that gets bogged down in the details; instead, it incorporates thriller elements to keep viewers on their toes. It’s a supremely well-constructed movie with so many twists and turns that your head will be spinning trying to figure out which side is set to come out on top.
If my praise isn’t enough to convince you to add “The Ides of March” to your Prime Video watchlist, don’t just take it from me. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie holds an 84% score, enough to earn a Certified Fresh seal of approval. Its audience score is also solid at 73%, though I have to say, I think that’s a bit lower than it deserves.

Antonia Quirke of the Financial Times labeled the movie “A marvellously stable thriller that squeezes you so expertly you react in all the ways it wants” and Jonathan Crocker of Little White Lies called it “A dark drama that gleams with pure quality.” The New York Post’s Lou Lumenick was also impressed. “Smart and solidly entertaining, thanks to one of the year’s top ensemble casts working at the top of its game,” said Lumenick in a largely positive review.

On the Jan. 3 episode of the NBC sitcomLopez vs. Lopez, Lopez finds himself in more antics — and recreating a moment from an iconic film in the process.
“George (Lopez) has a pretty big secret to keep when he starts secretly spending time with Rosie’s ex,” an official description for the episode reads. “Mayan tries to manage a customer’s move herself. Quinten tries to tackle a plumbing problem at home, but is he man enough to handle it without George?”
In PEOPLE’s exclusive preview of the upcoming episode, Lopez, 63, channels Julia Roberts’ Pretty Woman character to have his own iconic moment in a hardware store.

The clip begins with George strutting his stuff — with shopping bags in tow — as he enters a hardware store while “Pretty Georgie,” a rendition of the 1990 film’s theme song by Roy Orbison is heard.
Once he makes his grand entrance, Josué Consuelos (Jaime Camil) asks George, “Georgie, another hardware store? We already shop at five others.”
“I’m just here to make a point,” George responds.
He then swiftly moves on and turns to a store employee, asking, “Do you remember me?”

Despite confirming that he did, in fact, remember him, George continues, “I’ll tell you who I am. I was in here yesterday. You work on commission, right?”
The employee corrects him and says he works on an “hourly wage,” but George will not be deterred. He says, “Whatever. We just went shopping at every hardware boutique in town: The Wrench Connection, Screwy Vuitton and Le Tool.”
“I don’t care,” the employee responds, but George declares, “Big mistake. Big.”

The moment is reminiscent of the response from Roberts’ character, Vivian Ward, after she gets the cold shoulder from store employees in the beloved rom-com, which also stars Richard Gere.
In the iconic scene, Vivian, who is a sex worker that falls for Gere’s Edward Lewis, asked the employee who snubbed her, “Hello! Do you remember me?”
When she claims to not recall the woman, Vivian — carrying shopping bags on both arms — responds, “I was in here yesterday. You wouldn’t wait on me. You work on commission, right? Big mistake. Big. Huge.”

In October, Lopez told PEOPLE that Lopez vs. Lopez — which also stars his daughter Mayan — could be his last project, but he is making the most of it.
“I would like for it to go a few more seasons, but yeah, after this, I’d like to have a little time for myself,” George said of his career plans.
Of working with his daughter, who he shares with his ex-wife Ann Serrano, George shared, “She’s doing great.”
“In the beginning, I could tell when she was a little bit maybe frustrated a little bit and I would talk to her a little bit, but she works really hard when she’s not on the set,” he explained. “That’s my big thing — is to be on time. And she’s always prepared.”

“It’s exciting,” he added. “I mean, every week that we do the show, she just gets better and better. She’s able to do more physical stuff, more character stuff, and that’s really kind of what she talked about when she was 12 and she was talking about wanting to be on TV.”
