Georgia State Patrol investigating crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – One person was injured after being hit by a car during a chase on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Savannah Friday morning.
Georgia State Patrol says troopers were conducting a road check on West Bay Street at the intersection of Lathrop Avenue.
At about 2:15 a.m., a black Ford Mustang approached the road check on West Bay Street. The driver immediately made a U-turn driving back towards downtown Savannah.
Troopers left the road check to initiate a traffic stop on the Ford Mustang. As the Ford Mustang was driving east on West Bay Street, a different trooper was traveling west on West Bay Street near the intersection of Fahm Street.
According to the trooper, the car was driving 54 mph in a 40-mph zone. That trooper also initiated a traffic stop on the Ford Mustang. The car did not stop and pursuit ensued south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
As the driver crossed the intersection of West 37th Street, the driver lost control of the car. The Ford Mustang struck the rear of a Toyota Tacoma. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma was ejected and is in critical condition.
When the Ford Mustang came to a stop, troopers conducted a felony stop on the driver. The driver got out of the car and was arrested.
Georgia State Patrol says it was determined that the driver of the Ford Mustang was under the influence of alcohol and was in possession of Marijuana.
The investigation is ongoing.

Georgia Groundhog Day General Beauregard Lee prediction live stream
According to NOAA, Georgia’s own groundhog is much more accurate than the famed Punxsutawney Phil.
JACKSON, Georgia — Georgia’s own — some might say more accurate — meteorological groundhog has made his call for Groundhog Day, and it may not quite be what everyone was hoping.
It’s six more weeks of winter, according to General Beauregard Lee (“Beau” for short).
According to NOAA tracking, Beau is actually much more accurate than his famed northern counterpart Punxsutawney Phil. Beau’s accuracy sits at 80%.
On Sunday morning, Beau emerged at the Dauset Trails Nature Center in Jackson and saw his shadow, foretelling six more weeks of winter. Last year, Beau declared an early spring.
“Don’t kill the messenger!” Beau’s handlers joked Sunday.
The folks at Dauset Trails read a proclamation from Beau that said in part:
“I love pool parties and swimming and getting a tan, but I also love ice fishing, hot chocolate and making a snowman. We’ve had snow from here to the beach, it’s been an interesting winter for this Georgia peach… I know you’re ready for warmth and cheer, but you’ve got to hang on just a little longer my dear. I’m not joking, or kidding, or making a bluff — six more weeks of the wintry stuff. This prediction I make with my little paw — six more weeks of winter, for my shadow I saw.”
This now is where we caution that meteorologists are always more accurate than groundhogs. Groundhog Day should be used for entertainment purposes only.

General Beauregard Lee lived at the Yellow River Game Ranch in Gwinnett County for more than 25 years until the ranch suddenly shut down in 2017.
Dauset Trails Director, Ike English told 11Alive sister station WMAZ back in 2020 that Waffle House hash browns and Indian Springs water is what has kept the south’s “Doctor of Southern Groundology” predicting the weather for 39 years.
Beau used to live in Gwinnett County at the Yellow River Game Ranch, where he stayed more than 25 years before that ranch suddenly shut down in 2017.
His name is drawn from Confederate history — in reference to Generals P.G.T. Beauregard and Robert E. Lee.

For decades, Beau has been making his annual weather prediction in Georgia, and he’s set to celebrate his special day once again in 2025.

Who is General Beauregard Lee?
The backstory:
Beau is no ordinary groundhog — he’s the South’s official weather prognosticator, continuing a tradition that started in 1981. Named after two Confederate generals, Robert E. Lee and P.G.T. Beauregard, Beau took over from his ancestor in 1991 and now lives in style at Dauset Trails in his custom antebellum mansion, Weathering Heights.
Beau’s previous home at Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary in Gwinnett County closed in 2017, but he’s been thriving in his new digs ever since.
What time will General Beauregard Lee make his prediction?
What we know:
This year’s ceremony will take place at Beau’s mansion at the Dauset Trails Nature Center in Jackson, Georgia.
Gates open at 6 a.m. Beau will make his prediction at sunrise with the ceremony starting at 7:30 a.m.
Visitors will be able to grab food, drinks, and special souvenir shirts honoring the furry, four-legged weather predictor.

Groundhog Day traces its roots to ancient Celtic traditions, where Imbolc marked the midway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Early Christians celebrated Candlemas around the same time, and German immigrants brought the custom of weather-forecasting animals to America, swapping European hedgehogs and badgers for the native groundhog.
Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil has been at it since 1887, but Georgia’s Beau gives him a run for his money — especially in the accuracy department.

After a little more than seven years of ownership, Dwight Howard is officially bouncing out of his Georgia estate. The eight-time NBA All-Star and former Los Angeles Lakers center—he’s currently pushing for a return stint with the West Coast team—has just hoisted his European-style residence tucked away in the suburban community of Suwanee, some 35 miles northeast of Atlanta, on the market for a dash under $11.3 million. Kelly Anderson of Engel & Volkers Atlanta holds the listing.
Built over five years for a reported $40 million and completed in 2010, the property was initially listed in early 2014 for $15 million. The place subsequently underwent several price chops before eventually selling in 2016 to the then-Atlanta Hawks player at a discounted $8.8 million, according to Atlanta Business Chronicle, which first reported the listing.
Howard’s skylight-topped snake room was custom-built by a team from Animal Planet’s “Tanked” show.

Secluded behind two gated entrances amid a 14-acre parcel, the stately red brick structure is fronted by an oval cobblestone driveway that wraps around a fountain-laced lawn. Currently a free agent, Howard was originally drafted first overall in 2004 by the Orlando Magic, where he led the team to the 2009 NBA finals. The 39-year-old Atlanta native went on to play for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2012, spending three separate one-year stints with the team and winning the NBA Finals in 2020. He’s also been with the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, Philadelphia 76ers, and most recently, the Taoyuan Leopards in Taiwan.

The No. 22 Cardinals (16-5, 9-1 ACC) have won eight of the past 10 matchups against the Yellow Jackets (9-12, 3-7) and are 8-6 all time at McCamish Pavilion. They are one of only four conference opponents U of L beat during former coach Kenny Payne‘s two-year tenure.
Led by second-year coach Damon Stoudamire, Georgia Tech entered the weekend ranked 143rd in the NET, making this a Quad 3 opportunity for Louisville, after losing five of its past six games. The Yellow Jackets are a combined 0-10 in contests classified as either Quad 1 or Quad 2.
Today’s game will be a homecoming for Atlanta native Terrence Edwards Jr., who is coming off his best scoring performance since late December (18 points on 6-for-15 shooting) in Tuesday’s lopsided win over Wake Forest at the KFC Yum! Center.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with his Armenian counterpart Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan on Thursday. This development comes one year after his sentencing, in which he pled guilty to one count of violating the Street Gang and Terrorism Prevention Act.
According to WSB-TV, his plea deal included 20 years, 10 in prison, and time served. YFN Lucci’s early release is due in part to Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis sending a letter to the Board of Pardons and Paroles on his behalf. She advocated for his early release while his lawyer offered up supporting documents and a memorandum to the parole board.
