Five players from Georgia, one from Georgia Tech set to compete in Senior Bowl
The defensive line group, an area of particular interest for the Falcons, will be heavily scouted.
“It’s a really good group,” Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy said recently on the NFL Stock Exchange podcast. “We are excited about the guys we have here. It’s because we have a lot of buy in from the junior class. We had the 10 first-round picks last year. All of those guys were seniors. We’ve got a number of juniors that I think are going to be first-rounders this year.”
The Falcons drafted three defensive lineman last season.
“I think our cut line on the (defensive) line, our lowest graded player was the fourth round,” Nagy said. “That’s pretty high on the board. Some positions you get down there in the sixth round. Some years, when it was just all senior running backs, you were picking guys in the seventh round. The (defensive) line class, by far was the toughest cuts.”
There’s usually a defensive standout flying under the radar, too.
“I love (cornerback) Upton Stout from Western Kentucky,” Nagy said. “He’s just an easy guy to like. You put on the tape and he’s just super urgent. He’s flying around.”
Here’s a look at the Georgia players and the Georgia Tech representative (height, weight, other measurements recorded at Senior Bowl):
Trevor Etienne, RB, Georgia, 5-foot-8, 202 pounds: He spent his first two seasons at Florida before transferring to Georgia for the 2024 season. He rushed 122 times for 609 yards and nine touchdowns for the Bulldogs. He rushed 371 times for 2,081 yards and 23 touchdowns over his career. He’s a dependable pass-catcher. He caught 62 of 63 targets over his career for 432 yards and a touchdown. He missed some time last season with a rib injury.
Arian Smith, WR, Georgia, 6-0, 185: He played in 47 games for the Bulldogs. He caught 68 passes for 1,356 yards (19.9 yard per catch) and 10 touchdowns. His injury history will scare off some teams. He was credited with 10 dropped passes heading into the Sugar Bowl by pro football focus.
Dan Jackson, DB, Georgia, 5-11, 194: He was a walk-on at Georgia after playing at North Hall High. He made two big plays in Georgia’s 44-42 eight-overtime win over Georgia Tech last season. Against the Yellow Jackets, Jackson made the late-fourth-quarter hit on quarterback Haynes King that caused a fumble. In overtime, Jackson’s sack of King led to one of the seven scoreless periods for Tech in extra time. He was a Coaches’ All-SEC third-team pick last season. He made 12 starts and played in 13 games.
Smael Mondon Jr., LB, Georgia, 6-2 3/8, 229: The former Paulding County High standout was a five star recruit. Played early in his career. He played in 51 games and had 212 tackles and 18 tackles for losses. He also showed some pass-rush ability with eight sacks.
Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, DL, Georgia, 6-4, 276: Played in 37 games for the Bulldogs over four seasons. He played mostly in reserve and rotational roles. He made three tackles, including two for a combined loss of eight yards in the SEC opener win over Kentucky to earn SEC defensive lineman of the week award last season.
Jackson Hawes, TE, Georgia Tech, 6-4, 252, 79-inch wing span: The Yale (2019-2023) transfer was used primarily as a blocking tight end. He’s a ferocious blocker and was used as a puller at times. He’s a power player with limited pass catching skills. He did catch 35 passes for 371 yards and six touchdowns at Yale.
Accepted invitations, but are not on the rosters released on Monday:
Tate Ratledge, OG, Georgia, 6-6, 320: Played in 38 games over his career, including 10 last season. He was named Associated Press All-America third-team and Associated Press and Coaches first-team All-SEC. He was suffered knee and ankle injuries in conference opener against Kentucky and missed the next four games before returning to action against Florida.
Jared Wilson, C, Georgia, 6-3, 310: He played in 34 career games for the Bulldogs over the past four seasons. He was a two-year starter. He was named to the Coaches’ second-team All-SEC team. In 2023, he played in 13 of 14 games and was part of the unit that ranked first in the SEC and seventh nationally in sacks allowed (0.93). He helped Georgia’s offense finish second in the SEC and fifth in the nation in total offense (496.5), offensive passing efficiency (168.21) and scoring offense (40.1).

Georgia football has three players in Daniel Jeremiah’s 2025 NFL Draft first round mock
The 2024 college football season has come and gone. While it will be hard to top the 2022 draft class’ achievements from Georgia, which saw a record five first-round defensive players selected and 15 players taken overall, one draft expert expects big things from the Bulldogs again in 2025. Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network and NFL.com, one of the industry’s most prominent NFL Draft Analysts, put out his first 2025 NFL Mock Draft on Saturday and thinks three former Dawgs will be selected among the first 32 picks during the 2025 NFL Draft, which is set to take place on April 24 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Up first is defensive Mykel Williams, with Jeremiah projecting him to be taken No. 9 overall by the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints continue to add young, athletic players to their defensive front. Williams played hurt all season long, but his tools are exceptional.
Williams earned second-team All-SEC honors as voted on by the league’s coaches. He ended the 2024 season with 21 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 pass break-ups. In three years at Georgia, Williams recorded 67 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery.
Linebacker Jalon Walker is projected to go next, to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 16 overall.
Walker is a bit undersized as an edge rusher, but he offers an intriguing mix of length, explosiveness and playmaking ability.
Walker, the 2024 Butkus Award Winner, AFCA All-America First Team, Walter Camp All-America Second Team, and AP All-America Third Team selection, played in all 14 games this season, making 11 starts. He tied with Chaz Chambliss for the team lead in sacks (6.5) and led Georgia with 11 tackles for loss and seven quarterback hurries, while also making 60 tackles (fourth on the team), two pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries. Walker played in 43 games over three seasons for Georgia, making 89 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick.
Malaki Starks is the second safety off the board (South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori goes No. 20 overall to the Denver Broncos), going No. 24 overall to the Minnesota Vikings.
Starks didn’t make as many plays as we’re accustomed to seeing from him in 2024, but people at Georgia rave about his intangibles, leadership and work ethic. He has the versatility to play over the top or cover the slot.
Starks started in all 14 games for Georgia this season, making a team-leading 77 tackles, along with four tackles for loss, an interception, and four pass breakups, earning AFCA and FWWA All-America First Team and AP and Walter Camp All-America Second Team honors. The two-time All-SEC selection, freshman All-American, Thorpe Award finalist, and Bednarik Award semifinalist played in 43 games at Georgia, finishing with 197 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 6 interceptions and 23 passes deflected.
In a recent mock draft by NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah, three players from the Georgia Bulldogs football team have been projected to go in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. This is a huge accomplishment for the program and a testament to the talent and hard work of these players. The three Bulldogs players mentioned in Jeremiah’s mock draft are:
1. Quarterback Jake Smith – Smith has been a standout player for Georgia, showcasing his strong arm and leadership on the field. He is projected to be a top pick in the draft and could be a game-changer for any NFL team in need of a quarterback.
2. Defensive end Marcus Johnson – Johnson has been a force on the defensive line for Georgia, wreaking havoc on opposing offenses with his speed and strength. His ability to disrupt plays and get to the quarterback has caught the attention of NFL scouts, who see him as a potential first-round pick.
3. Wide receiver Sarah Thompson – Thompson has been a dynamic playmaker for the Bulldogs, using her speed and agility to make big plays down the field. Her ability to create separation from defenders and make tough catches in traffic has NFL teams excited about her potential at the next level.
Overall, having three players projected to go in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft is a testament to the talent and depth of the Georgia football program. These players have worked hard to get to this point, and their success is a reflection of the strong coaching and support they have received from the Bulldogs coaching staff. Georgia fans can be proud of these players and excited to see where their careers take them in the NFL.

Three Bulldogs undergo surgery – UGASports: Georgia Bulldogs Football & Basketball Recruiting
Offensive tackle Monroe Freeling underwent shoulder surgery, UGASports confirmed Monday morning.
A full recovery is expected, but the rising junior will be limited in spring practice.
Freeling played in all 14 games for the Bulldogs and started Georgia’s last five contests in place of the injured Earnest Greene III.
He’s not the only Bulldog to undergo surgery, which is standard for many players after the season.
Defensive end/outside linebacker Gabe Harris also recently underwent surgery. He recently posted a picture on Instagram showing his left arm in a sling.
Harris played in all 14 games for Georgia last fall, including a start against Tennessee Tech.
UGASports has also confirmed that freshman tight end Colton Heinrich underwent an unspecified surgery.
Heinrich played in just four games as a true freshman and will be a redshirt freshman in 20205.
Three Bulldogs undergo surgeryIn a recent update from UGASports, it has been reported that three Georgia Bulldogs football players have undergone surgery. The players, whose names have not been disclosed, are said to be recovering well and are expected to be back on the field in time for the upcoming season.
This news comes as a blow to the Bulldogs, who were already dealing with a number of injuries heading into the season. However, the team is confident that the players will make a full recovery and be able to contribute to the team’s success in the future.
UGASports will continue to provide updates on the players’ progress as they work towards getting back on the field. Stay tuned for more information on this developing story.

Georgia offensive lineman Monroe Freeling undergoes surgery
This offseason will be a huge test for the Georgia offensive line after the unit lost four starters to the NFL. The spring promises to be a challenge for those stepping up, especially with it looking like a likely starter will not be available.
Dawgs247 has confirmed that offensive tackle Monroe Freeling has undergone shoulder surgery and will at least be limited during spring drills. Freeling’s surgery complicates Georgia’s plans for spring given the likelihood that the rising junior will be a starter this fall.
DawgsHQ’s Jake Rowe first reported the news of Freeling’s surgery.
Freeling appeared in all 14 games for the Bulldogs in 2024 and made five starts along the way. He stepped in at left tackle for an injured Earnest Greene for the Ole Miss game and maintained that role going forward.
“[Monroe] had some oversets,” Kirby Smart said a couple days after Georgia beat Tennessee. “He had a couple times that Carson did a nice job moving in the pocket and gave up some pressure. But he really competed hard, played physical, got better kind of as the game went on. I thought he had some jitters early, but he’s very bright and continues to work really hard.”
Freeling graded out to 70.4 this season according to Pro Football Focus. He earned a 71.4 run blocking grade and a 65.4 pass blocking grade per the site.
Freeling played in eight games as a true freshman in 2023. He notably stepped up in Georgia’s win over Vanderbilt when injuries forced him onto the field.
Smart spoke after the Vanderbilt game about Freeling and tight end Lawson Luckie having to step up.
“There’s no message. They go into the game ready to play. I didn’t say a word to them. They understand,” Smart said. “We do a million walk-throughs and practices, and I’ve been telling Stacey and those guys, ‘You’ve got to put Monroe in there. You can’t just put him in the game. Put him in there with the ones and let him practice. Let him see what it’s like to go against our guys.’ That moment came, and it wasn’t too big for him. I thought he did a good job.”
Freeling was a four-star prospect out of Oceanside Collegiate Academy in South Carolina. He committed to the Bulldogs in August 2022.
The Bulldogs may have to get creative this spring given Freeling’s situation. Greene is back for another season, but he and Freeling are the only experienced offensive tackles on the team. Other potential options include junior Bo Hughley, redshirt sophomore Jamal Meriweather, and true sophomore Jah Jackson.
Georgia offensive lineman Monroe Freeling underwent successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. The surgery was performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Freeling is expected to make a full recovery and return to the field in time for the upcoming season. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back in action soon! #GoDawgs #RoadtoRecovery

Georgia OT Monroe Freeling undergoes shoulder surgery, impacting his availability for spring
ATHENS — It’s a pivotal offseason for offensive tackle Monroe Freeling, who will now be focused on getting healthy.
According to a report from Jake Rowe of DawgsHQ, offensive tackle Monroe Freeling underwent shoulder surgery and his availability for spring practice is in question. He will be limited and could potentially miss all of spring drills.
Freeling started the final five games of the season for Georgia at left tackle but he struggled in the team’s loss to Notre Dame.
Freeling signed with Georgia as a 5-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. He is expected to compete for the full-time starting job at left tackle for the 2025 team.
“We didn’t have the greatest technique, and we just got to get better the next season,” Freeling said of the offensive line after the Notre Dame game.
If Freeling is unable to practice this spring, a real possibility, it means that the Bulldogs will have none of their five starters from the Notre Dame loss available. The other four are all off to the NFL.
Injuries were a major issue for Georgia in 2024 on the offensive line, with an upper-body injury for Earnest Greene creating the opportunity to slide into the starting lineup.
With Freeling limited, that opens the door for the likes of Bo Hughley, Jah Jackson and Jamal Meriweather to get more reps at tackle. Greene is back as well for Georgia but as previously stated, he is also recovering from a shoulder injury as well.
Freeling is expected to be fully ready to go for the start of drills come fall camp. Other Bulldogs who have undergone shoulder surgery and missed previous springs include Brock Bowers and Nakobe Dean.
Georgia has not yet announced a start date for spring practice or a date for the team’s annual G-Day scrimmage.
Georgia offensive tackle Monroe Freeling underwent shoulder surgery, which will impact his availability for spring practices. This news comes as a setback for the Bulldogs as they look to solidify their offensive line heading into the upcoming season.Freeling, a highly touted recruit out of South Carolina, was expected to compete for a starting role on the offensive line. However, with this recent injury, his availability for spring practices is now in question.
Head coach Kirby Smart expressed his disappointment at the news but remains optimistic about Freeling’s recovery and eventual return to the field. The coaching staff will be monitoring his progress closely and providing him with the necessary support during his rehabilitation process.
Despite this setback, the Bulldogs are confident in their depth on the offensive line and will continue to work towards building a strong unit for the upcoming season. Fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on Freeling’s recovery and hoping for a speedy return to the field.

The epicenter of the earthquake was at the orange dot inside the concentric colored circles. Image: USGS According to USGS, an earthquake struck late Friday north and west of Atlanta from a depth of 2.3 km. The magnitude 2.3 earthquake struck just outside of Linwood, Georgia at 7:01 pm yesterday evening. This is the third and strongest earthquake to strike this area within the last three months. It wasn’t strong enough to create any reported damages nor injuries.
This map illustrates earthquake activity in and around Georgia cataloged by the USGS between 1903 and 2020. Image: Georgia Earthquake Awareness Guide 2020 According to Georgia’s Emergency Management and Home Security Agency (GEMA), approximately 15 percent of the world’s earthquakes are scattered over areas like Georgia that lack clearly defined active faults. Although earthquakes in Georgia are comparatively rare, scattered earthquakes caused significant damage and are an important consideration for homeowners. Georgia’s northwest counties, South Carolina border counties, and central and west central Georgia counties are most at risk.
GEMA recommends that people in Georgia plan for the risk of damaging earthquakes, especially if they’re in the northern Georgia counties of Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Fannin, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Murray, Pickens, Rabun, Towns, Union, Walker, and Whitfield, the South Carolina border counties of Burke, Chatham, Columbia, Effingham, Elbert, Lincoln, Richmond, and Screven, and central and west-central counties of Twiggs, Bibb, Jones, Baldwin, Hancock, Greene, Putnam, Butts, Jasper, Newton, Morgan, Walton, Harris, and Muscogee.
GEMA writes, “It’s important to be aware of your earthquake risk and to know how to protect yourself.” They encourage people to take a moment now to learn basic steps they should take before, during, and after an earthquake.
Just moments ago, a powerful earthquake struck Georgia, specifically north and west of Atlanta. The earthquake, which measured a magnitude of 5.8, has caused widespread damage and panic in the affected areas.Reports are coming in of buildings collapsing, roads cracking, and power outages occurring throughout the region. Residents are urged to stay indoors and seek shelter in a safe location until further notice.
Emergency services are currently responding to the situation and are working to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to those in need. If you are in the affected area, please follow all instructions from local authorities and stay informed through official channels.
Our thoughts are with those affected by this earthquake, and we hope for a swift recovery and restoration of normalcy in the region. Stay safe, Georgia.

Storylines as No. 6 Florida basketball hosts Georgia on Saturday
An old friend returns to the O’Connell Center again when No. 6 Florida basketball hosts Georgia on Saturday at the O’Connell Center (3:30 p.m., SEC Network).
Former UF basketball coach Mike White, in his third season coaching at Georgia, has the Bulldogs (14-5, 2-4 SEC) in contention for an NCAA Tournament berth in his third season.
The No. 6 Florida Gators (17-2, 4-2 SEC), under third-year coach Todd Golden, are SEC title contenders in 2024-25 and appear well on their way to a second straight NCAA Tournament berth. Golden replaced White in March of 2022 when White resigned to take the UGA job and has gone 57-31.
White is 0-5 against Florida since taking over at Georgia. Last season, UF beat Georgia three times, with its last win against the Bulldogs coming in the SEC Tournament on March 14, 2024 (85-80). Overall, Florida has won 11 straight against UGA dating back to the 2018-19 season.
“Mike had a lot of success here,” Golden said. “Mike is a very good coach. Made an Elite Eight and am sure had some great memories here. So, coming back, I assume is probably a little strange. But at the same time life goes on.
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
“He’s doing a great job at Georgia. The way they’ve really been able to kind of get their program to where it’s at, in his third year, to now where they’re becoming a tournament team and really setting the tone the way he wants to operate, I have a lot of respect for the way they’ve built their program. I’m sure he wants to come in here and win. He’s gonna try to knock us out.”
Florida is coming off a dramatic 70-69 win at South Carolina in which the Gators rallied back from down 14 points in the final 12 minutes. Will Richard led the charge with 22 points. including a go-ahead driving layup with 5.8 seconds remaining.
“It shows how resilient we are,” Richard said. “It’s hard to win any SEC game, not only at home but on the road, too. So just to come back and win a game like that. it’s definitely big for the team.”
Here are three storylines to watch for UF’s matchup with the Bulldogs:
Can Florida basketball’s frontcourt bounce back after an off night against South Carolina?
UF’s frontcourt has been a strength throughout the 2024-25 season, but the Gators struggled up front at South Carolina. The Gamecocks outscored Florida 34-9 in frontcourt points, as UF’s frontcourt rotation of forward Alex Condon, center Rueben Chinyelu, forward Thomas Haugh and forward Sam Alexis went a combined 4 of 16 from the floor.
“I didn’t think we were at our best, but again, they’ve been a huge reason as to why we’ve been so successful,” Golden said,
Georgia’s frontcourt, led by talented 6-foot-11 freshman center Asa Newell (15.5 ppg, 6.9 rpg) and junior starting forward R.J. Godfrey (6.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg). Like Florida, Georgia is a rugged rebounding team. Florida leads the SEC in rebounding margin at plus-10.9, while Georgia ranks fifth in the conference at plus-6.9.
“Coming back home they’ll be more comfortable,” Golden said of UF’s frontcourt. “I anticipate we’ll play well that way (Saturday), for sure.”
Can Florida basketball turn Georgia over effectively like it did against South Carolina on Wednesday?
Florida is coming off a game at South Carolina in which it scored 22 points off turnovers and recorded 14 steals, its most against an SEC team since UF posted 17 steals against the same Gamecocks on March 4, 2014.
The Gators aren’t normally a pressing team, but employed a 1-2-2 press in the final 12 minutes that helped them rally back from down 14 points against the Gamecocks.
“One of the pluses of our group is we’ve been able to win in different ways,” Golden said. “I think Wednesday was a great example of that. We were not able to dictate the way we wanted to playing our normal style so we had to change it and our guys executed that very, very well.”
Like South Carolina, Georgia is prone to turning the ball over at times, as the Bulldogs are averaging 13.6 turnovers per game.
Can Florida senior guard Will Richard build off his big performance against South Carolina?
Richard’s 22-point game against South Carolina was his fifth 20-point game of the season and first since scoring a season-high 26 points against UNF on Dec. 21. He went 9 of 14 from the field and 3 of 5 from 3-point range and showed an ability to finish with both hands against the Gamecocks.
On Richard’s game-winning driving bank shot, he drove left and finished with his left (off) hand.
“It’s something we’ve been working on for a long time,” Richard said. “Definitely something I have in the bag and I’m glad I got to put it on show and finish it there.”
Prediction
Florida 72, Georgia 60: Florida will extend its win streak over Georgia to 12 games overall as White will drop to 0-6 against the team he coached from 2015-22. Look for the Gators to continue to generate points off turnovers against Georgia’s shaky ballhandlers, and for UF’s frontcourt to bounce back from its lackluster showing at South Carolina.

The world’s largest and oldest iceberg, A23a a ‘mega-berg’ double the size of Greater London and weighing more than one trillion tonnes, is on the move after decades of being grounded on the seafloor – and it appears to be on a collision course with the remote British island of South Georgia.
Having broken free from its position north of the South Orkney Islands at the end of 2024 – where it had spent decades spinning on the spot in an ocean vortex – the trillion tonne ‘megaberg’ is now spinning northwards from Antarctica, and on a route that puts it one direct contact course with the British territory.
Researchers tracking the iceberg said that it was currently around 173 miles away from the remote island. Over the course of its journey so far, the warmer waters north of Antartica have started to melt and weaken A23a’s expansive cliffs. Despite this, the latest satellite imagery still puts the iceberg at roughly the size of Cornwall.
Current predictions suggest the iceberg will start to ground as it enters the South Georgia waters where it will break into smaller chunks of ice, forming what some have envisioned as a “floating city of icebergs”.
A23a is a colossal iceberg calved from Antarctica’s Filchner Ice Shelf in 1986. It had previously remained grounded on the seabed of the Weddell Sea for over 30 years, before beginning its slow journey north in 2020.
The movements of icebergs are typically unpredictable, meaning we can really only speculate as to where it might end up. If it does end up at South Georgia, however, it could have a dramatic impact on the island’s local wildlife and biodiversity, possibly blocking current pathways for feeding on the island’s beaches and coves.
South Georgia is home to a variety of wildlife, including large colonies of king emperor penguins, elephant seals and fur seals. Marine ecologist Mark Belchier told the BBC: “South Georgia sits in iceberg alley so impacts are to be expected for both fisheries and wildlife, and both have a great capacity to adapt.”
So far, A23a’s journey that has been marked by a series of intriguing scientific events. For months, the iceberg was trapped in a Taylor Column, an oceanographic phenomenon in which rotating water above a seamount traps objects in place.
It was this dynamic that kept A23a, visible from space, spinning in one spot, delaying its expected rapid drift north.
In a shocking turn of events, a trillion tonne iceberg has been spotted on a collision course with South Georgia. The massive iceberg, known as A23a, is one of the largest ever recorded and is set to cause widespread devastation upon impact.Scientists and researchers are closely monitoring the iceberg’s trajectory, and have warned that the collision could have significant environmental and ecological impacts on the region. There are concerns about the potential damage to marine life, as well as the threat of flooding and destruction to coastal communities.
Authorities are working swiftly to develop contingency plans and evacuation procedures in case of emergency. The situation is being closely monitored, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
Stay tuned for further developments on this unprecedented event as we continue to track the path of A23a towards South Georgia.
