  • Will Jets hire favorite to land key assistant job, or should Aaron Glenn look elsewhere?

Aaron Glenn began filling out his coaching staff Wednesday with three hires, including defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo.

And there’s a chance he could fill his final coordinator job, and arguably the most important hire he’ll make as the coach here, before the weekend arrives.

Ever since Glenn was hired last week, the Jets have been linked closely to Lions passing game coordinator Tenner Engstrand – the only name to gain real traction for open offensive coordinator job.

Now we’re about to find out if there’s fire under all that smoke. There was with Wilks, who also emerged as a font-runner right after Glenn got the job. But Wilks is also one of the most experienced coaches in the league and a perfect fit with Glenn giving up play calling to take a wider view of the team as a first-year head coach.

Engstrand is viewed as a sharp offensive mind with a lot of potential. But there’s an element of risk there because he hasn’t had much of a chance to prove it in a meaningful way.

BUY NFL TICKETS: STUBHUB, VIVID SEATS, TICKETSMARTER, TICKETMASTER

He has only two years of NFL experience as a positional and only four years of experience at this level total (he spent his first two years in Detroit as a offensive assistant and quality offensive control coach).

But he has some past relationships that that could help him in the job. And years of experience calling plays, even if its not at the NFL level.

Engstrand was an offensive coordinator at the University of San Diego, his alma mater, a few years after he started his career there as a graduate assistant under Jim Harbaugh.

He spent seven seasons as the San Diego OC before joining Harbaugh in Michigan as an offensive analyst in 2018.

In 2020 he was the offensive coordinator for the XFL’S DC Defenders. He joined the Lions staff on the ground floor in 2021, watching and helping coach Dan Campbell, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and Glenn turn Detroit from a punchline into a contender.

All of that experience, both from an x’s and o’s standpoint and from coaching personalities, should have him well equipped for a coordinator job if he’s been paying attention.

Yes, it would be a bit of a risk, but Glenn knows what he’s getting after working with Engstrand for the last four years, and any offensive coordinator the Jets hire will be a risk because they’ve gone through seven in the last nine years .

The only thing that gives us a slight bit of pause about Engstrand? Johnson passed him over when it came time to hire his OC in Chicago, and Campbell did the same.

The New York Jets are in the market for a key assistant coach, and former player Aaron Glenn is said to be a favorite for the position. However, with other teams showing interest in Glenn, should he consider looking elsewhere for his next coaching opportunity? Stay tuned for updates on the Jets’ coaching search and Glenn’s potential future with the team.

  • Isabeau Levito joins Amber Glenn, Alysa Liu on World Figure Skating Championships team

Isabeau Levito was named to the three-woman U.S. team for March’s World Figure Skating Championships in Boston due to her overall body of work despite missing this week’s nationals due to a foot injury.

Levito, the 2024 World silver medalist and 2023 U.S. champion, joins this year’s U.S. gold and silver medalists — Amber Glenn and Alysa Liu — on the world team.

Levito’s spot is “pending return to play protocol.”

A U.S. Figure Skating committee picks the world team. The team usually, but not always, mirrors U.S. Championships results.

U.S. CHAMPIONSHIPS: Results | Broadcast Schedule

Levito was the top U.S. women’s singles skater at the last two world championships (also fourth in 2023).

Before being sidelined by injury, Levito ranked fourth among U.S. women by best total score in international competitions this season — 3.77 points behind third-ranked Sarah Everhardt.

Everhardt, 18, placed third at nationals behind Glenn and Liu in a bid for her first senior world championships team. Everhardt is the first alternate for senior worlds and was named to the team for February’s Four Continents Championships along with Glenn and Liu.

The top two U.S. women at worlds must have their results add up to no more than 13 (sixth place and seventh place, for example) to earn the U.S. the maximum three women’s singles spots at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.

Glenn, 12th and 10th at the last two worlds, blossomed internationally this season. She has won all five of her competitions in 2024-25, including December’s Grand Prix Final, which gathers the world’s top skaters.

Liu, the 2022 World bronze medalist, returned from a two-year retirement to nearly win a third U.S. title.

Amber Glenn won her second straight national title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Friday in Wichita, KS. Glenn and others on the podium share their thoughts on the competition.

Exciting news in the world of figure skating as Isabeau Levito has officially been named as part of the U.S. team for the upcoming World Figure Skating Championships! Levito will be joining top skaters Amber Glenn and Alysa Liu as they represent the United States on the international stage.

This talented trio is sure to make a splash at the World Championships, with Levito bringing her own unique style and skill to the ice. Fans can look forward to seeing these three incredible skaters compete against the best in the world and showcase their incredible talents.

Congratulations to Isabeau Levito on this well-deserved honor, and best of luck to the entire U.S. team as they take on the world at the World Figure Skating Championships! #TeamUSA #FigureSkating #WorldChampionships

  • U.S. Figure Skating Championships: Amber Glenn, Ilia Malinin shine ahead of worlds, en route to 2026 Olympics

With the world figure skating championships in Boston at the end of March, the Americans are hoping to use their home ice advantage to find some spots on the podium. The U.S. worlds team was chosen during the U.S. national championships in Wichita over the weekend, but skaters weren’t just competing for a spot on the world team for Boston — they were also starting to put together their resume for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics next February, making this an incredibly important year for the national championships.

Here are the biggest takeaways from a dazzling competition.

Earlier this season, Glenn won every Grand Prix competition she entered, including the Grand Prix Final. With a winning streak like that, defending her national title would be easy, right? Well, this is figure skating, and nothing is easy or guaranteed.

After her short program landed her in third, Glenn fought through her free program, beautifully landing her triple Axel and recovering well from a fall late in the skate. It was not her best, but it was enough to win her second consecutive national championship, and a spot on the world team headed to Boston.

“Coming into these nationals, I wasn’t feeling my absolute best,” Glenn told reporters after her win. “Today being able to not fully lock in but for the most part get into the zone I needed to, and I’m very proud of my mental fortitude and the progress I’ve made.”

Alysa Liu becomes a thrilling comeback story at just 19 years old

After the 2022 season, where Liu took sixth at the Olympics and third at the world championships, she retired. Three seasons later, at the ripe old age of 19, Liu decided to return to the ice. Liu has always excelled as a jumper, and that hasn’t changed. What has changed is the joy she’s found on the ice this time around. Liu skated a memorable, emotional short program, and finished second overall. Three years later, she’s back on the world team.

“It feels really crazy to me,” she said. “I really didn’t have any expectations for myself placement wise, just program wise. It felt really good throughout this entire experience.”

Seventeen-year-old Isabeau Levito, who won silver at the 2024 Worlds, was the third member named to the team, pending return-to-play protocol. She missed the U.S. Championships with a foot injury.

Even those who aren’t the biggest fans of figure skating know about Madison Chock and Evan Bates. The ice dancing pair, who began skating together in 2011 and were married last summer, have been on every U.S. championships podium since 2013. Chock and Bates have been to three Olympics together, securing a gold medal in the team event in 2022. They won the last two world championships, too, and have shown no sign of slowing down. Their jazz-themed free skate brought down the house in Wichita. Expectations for the pair are high as they head into Boston.

They will be joined by ice dancers Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko, and Caroline Green and Michael Parsons.

Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov haven’t been skating together long. Efimova, who previously skated for Russia, was looking for a new partner in 2023 when Mitrofanov sent her a message on Instagram. The tryout worked well, and they started training in Massachusetts. Just two years later, the two won the U.S. title and will lead the pairs delegation. Even better, they get to compete a short drive from their rink in Norwood, Massachussets.

“While growing up, I watched pairs and when I was skating singles, I never thought I would do pairs,” Mitrofanov said. “But when I switched, I would watch all the big names, and it was always a dream of mine to stand on the podium. It’s very surreal.”

Defending world champion Ilia Malinin again treated fans to a skate packed with quadruple jumps. During Sunday’s free skate, Malinin threw seven quad jumps, with a fall on one. The jumps included a quadruple Axel, a jump few will even attempt, much less land.

While his jumps are fantastic and rack up points, Malinin, 20, has shown consistent growth in how he’s managed the skating between his jumps. His artistry has started to catch up with his technical ability, making Malinin a terrifying opponent for his competitors in Boston.

“Looking back after that performance, I felt that it was a pretty good performance and I definitely have improved a lot since Grand Prix Final,” Malinin said. “I’m definitely very happy with all the progress that I made at this competition, but now I can use the time to take everything that I’ve learned from my performances and really try to develop them and get them as perfect as I can before Worlds.”

He will be joined in Boston by Andrew Torgashev, who took second on Sunday, and two-time Olympian Jason Brown, who won bronze in the team event in the 2014 Sochi Games. Like Levito, Brown missed nationals and will need to follow return-to-play protocol. Brown, 30, said he had been dealing with a series of challenges heading into nationals. If he cannot compete, Camden Pulkinen will take the spot as the first alternate. Pulkinen finished third in Wichita.

The U.S. Figure Skating Championships recently concluded with Amber Glenn and Ilia Malinin emerging as two of the brightest stars in the sport. With their impressive performances, both skaters have solidified their spots on the world stage and are now on their way to the 2026 Olympics.

Amber Glenn wowed the crowd with her technical skill and artistic flair, earning top scores in both the short program and free skate. Her graceful movements and powerful jumps showcased her dedication and talent, leaving no doubt that she is a force to be reckoned with in the figure skating world.

On the men’s side, Ilia Malinin proved to be a formidable competitor, delivering flawless performances and demonstrating his versatility on the ice. His precision and athleticism were on full display, earning him a well-deserved spot on the podium.

As both skaters look ahead to the upcoming world championships and ultimately the 2026 Olympics, they are sure to be ones to watch. With their determination and skill, Amber Glenn and Ilia Malinin are poised to make a lasting impact on the figure skating world and inspire a new generation of athletes.

  • Knoxville Mayor and WWE Hall-of-Famer Glenn Jacobs: I Would “Certainly” Support Sen. Blackburn if She Runs for TN Governor

Today on the Guy Benson Show, guest host Todd Piro was joined by Knoxville Mayor and WWE hall-of-fame wrester Glenn Jacobs (a.k.a. Kane). Jacobs and Piro discussed his journey from the wrestling ring into the lions den of politics. Jacobs discussed his story and why he thinks that America is much better off and feels more hopeful under President Trump. Jacobs also detailed his experience at Trump’s inauguration and showed his support for Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn in a potential bid for Tennessee governor. Listen to the full interview below!

Read the full (automated) interview below:

Todd Piro: His name is Glenn Thomas Jacobs. A pretty, pretty American name, right? Well, you may know by a different name. If you are one of my fraternity brothers from the late 90s, early 2000s, they are Dartmouth College, New Hampshire. You know him as WWE Hall of Famer Kane. He’s also the mayor of Knox County. Since the year 2018. Mr. Jacobs Excuse me. Mayor Jacobs, great to have you on The Guy Benson Show. How are you, sir?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): I’m doing great. Thanks for having me, Todd.

Todd Piro: You’re seven feet tall, is that correct?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Well, I’m actually about six eight in wrestling boots. I was a little taller, but I’m pretty tall, dude.

Todd Piro: There you go. Nonetheless. Yeah. Six, eight, seven. I mean, we’re. We’re picking nits here. But, you know, I’ve seen you a lot on the channel recently. Haven’t had an opportunity to interview you on my program on the TV, so we’ll do it here on radio. And you have an absolutely fascinating story because, again, I’m not going to sit here and be a poser and say I’m a big WWF, WWE guy, although I do live right down the street from the headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. But but I did, you know, grow up at a time, especially in my fraternity days, where my brothers used to gather around the TV. I mean, these are Ivy League educated cats, right? And they would sit there and they would watch you. They would watch Stone cold. They would watch all these guys and get into it. It shaped a generation. And now you’re trying to shape a generation as a politician. So how did you make that transition?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): First, you went to Dartmouth, right? Yes, sir, I heard. Yeah. Yeah. My niece actually went to Dartmouth for medical school. She’s not orthopedic surgeon, so she’s really smart. I like to say it’s a good it’s a good school. But yes, for me, the reason I got to politics, it wasn’t like a particular issue or anything like that. I had a fantastic life, great product, The American Dream. I grew up on a small farm in Missouri. My family is great. My mom and dad are hardworking folks, but we didn’t have a whole lot. We weren’t poor. And of course, that’s something to eat and a roof over our head. But nevertheless, that was about it. And from there, I mean, I was able to find something I was good at. Professional wrestling, of all things. Travel the world or fame. People provide a life for my family that I wouldn’t have thought possible. And I think that story is only possible in America. And all too often we take that for granted. I mean, I’ve traveled the world. I’ve seen other places. To me, this is far and above a superior place to live. You know, it’s the legacy in our country of, you know, just freedom and justice for all. That’s a real thing for us. Right. And I just wanted to do what I could to ensure that that go on for my grandkids and my kids. Like President Reagan said, the freedoms never more than a generation away from extinction. And I think that more people and a lot of people are standing up for more people need to stand up and ensure that we’re not the generation allows that to happen.

Todd Piro: You mentioned Reagan. We’re in the era of Trump, and I’m looking at your story. All individuals who didn’t start out as politicians, they came from something else. And in many respects, all three of you came from the entertainment business to varying degrees. But the focus really isn’t on entertainment. It is bringing something else to the table other than the, let’s call it institutional knowledge or institutional bureaucracy of government. Why do you think that has made you successful? Why do you think it made Reagan successful and why do you think it makes Trump successful?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Well, it is that different perspective and you can absolutely see it in this Trump administration. These first five days have been truly remarkable. They’ve almost been transformational for our country, and it’s been done in a very businesslike way. I mean, I think this time Trump learned from his first term while he was being literally persecuted as a private citizen. I learned from that. And he and his team came in with a game plan this time. And they often hear about presidents in the first hundred days and how important it is and all that stuff. Well, they take it to heart. And I mean, they have just done things that, you know, you wouldn’t have never thought possible before. But it was all strategy and all planning, which is something that you learn in business.

Todd Piro: You mentioned kids and grandkids. Do you think that years from now when history books are written that literally this week will be written about in history books where probably not my kids, my kids are young, but I think, you know, the books are already written. Do you think their kids, my grandkids will read about this week? January of 2025 as the day that America changed.

    Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): For.

Todd Piro: The weak and changed.

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Man it should be. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. I just, you know, everything from tackling the border and immigration crisis to strengthening American sovereignty, to righting injustices, all these different things that have been done in a way. And it just keeps on getting better. I mean, transparency. You know, how many years have people been begging for the JFK files to be declassified? And it doesn’t happen for decades. And then in the Trump administration, second Trump ministration three days and bam, there it is. And, you know, people think, well, that’s no big deal. It’s a huge deal. You know, it’s a huge deal because government classifies so many documents and, you know, so many of them shouldn’t be classified. It causes a lack of transparency. And that’s been addressed. And right now, it’s kind of a symbolic way. But I think going forward, it it’ll be even more more in that vein. So absolutely, I think. Yeah, it’s going to change the country and I really think that it’s going to get the country back on the right track. When so many of us were very concerned that we were about to go off the rails.

Todd Piro: We’ve addressed the policy of this week, but you are also there attended Trump’s inauguration in D.C.. You know, human to human. What was that like?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Yeah. There was so much excitement. So many people that had supported the president in many cases from the beginning. And, you know, part of the reason I think that the elitist left hates Trump so badly is because, you know, I consider myself I’m just an average person, man. You know, I was fortunate enough and very blessed to have a great career and do some really cool stuff. But in the end, you know, I’m just a dude. I’m just a guy. And that’s what Trump is, you know? And I think that’s part of the reason that the elites just despise him is because when they look at him, they see us, they see flyover country. You know, he’s not one of those like, rich dudes that that puts on airs or anything like that. You know, he’s just himself. And that gives him, you know, in wrestling and in politics the ability to connect with people. It’s intangible and you can’t teach it, but it’s one of the most important things. In fact, I would argue it is the most important thing for success in both areas. And it’s just something that some folks have and some folks don’t. Trump’s got it and he’s got it in spades. And again, I think that’s why, you know, people keep higher ups in the in the Democrat Party have been trying to figure that out. And they can’t and they never will. But that’s why people understand what that’s why they loved him so much.

Todd Piro: I think you touched upon something really, really interesting. And it’s a general topic that we address a lot, this elites versus non elites. And I think we look at and say, elites look down upon, not elites. But I think you looked at it from a different perspective and that’s important. Elitist, almost celebrate the fact that they’re not regular dudes. And that does two things. It’s almost like a self-fulfilling prophecy. They can never let themselves be around or be comfortable with that concept of just being a dude. And they have to continuously sort of always one up or two up or three up you whether it’s in terms of of knowledge policy or just their approach to the world and what Donald Trump does. We mentioned it earlier in the show, Common sense. It’s all about common sense. Don’t overthink things. You know, there are criminals that are illegally in our country. So what does Trump do? Gets rid of this. We have oil underneath our feet. So what does Trump do? Drills for it. And these are just two examples, but it drives the elites crazy that regular people are succeeding and regular people are voting for this because it almost shatters their view of the world, which I don’t know. I’m not an elite. Glenn, I don’t understand your thoughts.

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Yeah, Yeah. Well, whatever percent agree, I’m not an elite either. But I think a lot of it is just that. Wanting to run everybody’s lives and believing that you are smarter in that kind of paternalistic attitude that you know better and, you know, you’re literally have been put in a position, you know, anointed by God to tell everybody else what to do. And, you know, my my political political philosophy is basically to maximize individual freedom. The people know how to run their lives better than some bureaucrat in Washington, D.C. does. Right. When it comes to the education of our kids, you know, they know better how to what their kids need than some faceless drone at the Department of Education in Washington, D.C.. And, you know, a lot of this obviously goes I think goes back to the progressive era. You know, and experts and technocrats should be running everything that’s not that’s not America. That’s completely un-American. And if nothing else, what has happened this week with with Trump and everything he’s done so far is really a lot of that. And that attitude has been overturned. You know, obviously, you know, sometimes it feels like we’re in a movie and these folks are just going to sit back on the heels of it all happen. At some point, they’ll come back out swinging. But, man, it feels good right now that I mean, seriously, we all keep on saying it, but it feels like America is back in a big way.

Todd Piro: Let’s switch before we let you go from America to specifically the great state of Tennessee. Senator Marsha Blackburn appears to be the clear frontrunner for Tennessee governor, That according to a Trump pollster. You’re the state mayor of Knox County there, which is where Knoxville is located. If my Wikipedia search, I just did while doing the radio hit with you is correct. You agree with that? Is Blackburn. Is this Blackburn’s gubernatorial seat if she wants it?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Yes. If Senator Blackburn wants to run for governor, I’ll certainly support for and I think that she would be definitely considered the front runner right now. And she’s done great. And she was in the state Senate then with the Congress and obviously is now a U.S. senator, but has done very well at all those levels, represents Tennessee and the people of Tennessee and Tennessee values very well. So I think she’d make a great governor.

Todd Piro: How long are the terms there?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Four years. And why? Said the term limited, say up to four year terms.

Todd Piro: Okay. So follow me where I’m going here. If memory serves, there have been other WWF, WWE individuals who’ve gone on to the governor’s mansion in their respective state. Is that on the table for Cain? And eight plus years?

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Yeah. You know, I’m not exactly sure. I have two years left as mayor. A little less than that, actually. And I’m term limited as well. You know, for me, it’s not looking at what political office I want to run for next. It’s really just about trying to make a positive difference for the people that I love. And hopefully that radiates out to everybody else as well. So I’m not exactly sure, you know, and I’m not worried about it either. I mean, for whatever reason, you know, God always seems to put me in different places that, you know, that I feel rewarded and I feel that I belong. And I’m sure that’s what’s going to happen in the future. So, you know, it’s one of those things whatever comes, comes, and I’m going to be okay with that.

Todd Piro: Got it. You are listening to Glenn Thomas Jacobs. He’s the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, since 2018 and came to all those boys that I hung out with when I was in the fraternity watching WWE. This is awesome. Thank you so much for making the time curious and excited to see what the next step in your career is. But I think we’re all excited to see what Donald Trump does in the next four years. Appreciate your time. Have a great weekend.

Glenn Jacobs (aka Kane): Thanks to you, too. I appreciate it.

Knoxville Mayor and WWE Hall-of-Famer Glenn Jacobs recently expressed his support for Senator Marsha Blackburn potentially running for Tennessee Governor in the upcoming election. In a statement, Jacobs said, “I would certainly support Senator Blackburn if she decides to run for Governor. She has been a strong advocate for our state and I believe she would make a great leader for Tennessee.”

Jacobs, who is known for his conservative views, has been a vocal supporter of Blackburn in the past and has praised her work in the Senate. If Blackburn does decide to run for Governor, she would likely have strong support from the conservative base in Tennessee, including Jacobs.

Blackburn has not yet announced her intentions to run for Governor, but speculation has been swirling in political circles. If she does decide to throw her hat in the ring, it seems she would have the backing of influential figures like Glenn Jacobs.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Quotes About Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn

    Lions HC Dan Campbell:
“Aaron Glenn is — he’s as good a coach as you’re going to find, he’s an even better human being. Look, if nobody wants him, I’ll take him again. I can tell you that right now. The thought of going through another cycle and he’s not somebody’s head coach is ridiculous. I mean this guy is as good as they come, and he can do it all. He understands how to manage a game, he understands offense, defense, special teams, he knows how to communicate, he understands discipline of players and he’s motivating, he’s inspiring. I don’t want to lose him, but I also root for the guy because I think he’s a hell of a coach.

“But what he did the other day [vs. Washington in the Divisional Round] and what that defensive staff did and what our players did to have the plan in place of what we knew we needed to do and to watch them bring it to life, our players brought that plan to life and they did it and it speaks for itself. Three of 13 on third down, 0 of 3 on fourth down, 0 of 4 in the red zone, only gave up five explosives. Three sudden changes really defensively had to go out there and were able to hold them back. That’s significant, that’s significant. So, just can’t say enough good things.”

Bears HC (and Lions’ former OC) Ben Johnson:
“[Glenn] is beyond qualified right now. You hear all of our players singing his praises right now, and that’s exactly what I would do, I would second that. He is more prepared to be a head coach than maybe anybody I’ve ever met. He wants that and I think he’d do a phenomenal job in charge.”

    Lions CB Carlton Davis:
“Man, I love playing for him bro. He’s a great guy to get coached by. He’s intense but he’s also a players’ coach, he also understands but he doesn’t drop his standards for anybody. That’s the type of guy you want to play for. You want to play for somebody who is going to push you but also coach you and teach you what you did wrong. He’s a great guy, having that balance and it’s been great for me so far. I love being under him.”

“The respect level is so high. His word is like what’s written once he says it because you know that he’s been there before and you know that he knows what he’s talking about. I mean 41 interceptions, you can’t coach that. He’s a special guy. He’s somebody I look up to so of course I’m going to be cognitive of whatever he’s saying and always being coachable for him.”

    Lions LB Alex Anzalone:
“Everything that is said about Dan [Campbell], as far as leadership and culture and development and all of those great things, him and A.G., in my mind, are two of the best I’ve been around. And they’re on the same level and he’s ready for a head coaching job. I know he wants it. I’ve seen him develop just as a coordinator and a coach, and it’s cool to be a part of. And I think he’s one of the best teachers that I’ve been around as far as defensive football, too.”

“I think he has all the qualities and command and leadership and culture-setting that Dan has, and he’s learned from Dan and he’s developed under him. And I think he’s ready to do it.”

    Lions S Brian Branch:
“For one, he played this game for a long time and he treats everybody the same. I feel like he gave me a lot of tools to put in my toolbox to help me sharpen my game. He always stays on top of me, never lets me get too big-headed and he wants the best for me. That’s all I could ask for from a coach and he keeps pushing me every day.”

    Lions DL Alim McNeill:
“AG is the heart of our defense. He built who we are as a defense and a lot of guys on our team after him as well. It’s the same way from our offensive coaches, we learned a lot from them as well.”

    Lions CB Terrion Arnold:
“AG taught me a lot of lessons, but the main one that would stick out is just as far as being a competitor. His main point to us day-in, day-out and night-in, night-out was just challenge. Go out there and don’t beat yourself. The guy really taught me how to be a smart football player and he taught me how to be a pro, the ins and outs of it. I’m very fortunate to have somebody like that.”

  • Jets hiring Darren Mougey as general manager: Ex-Broncos executive joins Aaron Glenn in New York

Just days after finding their new head coach, the New York Jets have found their new general manager. According to a CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones the Jets will hire Denver Broncos assistant general manager Darren Mougey to fill the role.

Mougey replaces the departed Joe Douglas, who was fired during the 2024 season along with former head coach Robert Saleh and former offensive Nathaniel Hackett. The Jets hired former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator (and New York Jets defensive back) Aaron Glenn as their head coach earlier this week, and Glenn and Mougey will now work together to lead the next era of Jets football.

Mougey was a former wide receiver at San Diego State, where he was a college teammate of Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. He went undrafted in 2009 and spent two years on the Falcons and Cardinals’ practice squads before joining the Broncos as a scouting intern in 2012.

Mougey slowly moved his way up in Denver’s personnel department, holding the titles of Personnel and Scouting Assistant, College and Pro Personnel Scout, Area Scout, Assistant Director of College Scouting, Director of Player Personnel and finally Assistant General Manager, which is the title he held for the last four years.

According to NFL Media, Mougey has been a “sounding board” for Broncos coach Sean Payton since his arrival in Denver, which gives him a connection to Glenn. Prior to arriving in Detroit, Glenn served as the defensive backs coach under Payton with the New Orleans Saints.

This post will be updated with more information.

The New York Jets have made a major move in their front office, hiring Darren Mougey as their new general manager. Mougey, a former executive with the Denver Broncos, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Jets organization.

Mougey will be joining new head coach Aaron Glenn in New York, as the two look to turn around a struggling franchise. With Mougey’s background in player personnel and team management, the Jets are hoping to build a competitive and successful team for the future.

Fans are excited to see what Mougey and Glenn can accomplish together, and are hopeful that this new leadership team will bring the Jets back to their winning ways. Stay tuned for more updates on the Jets’ offseason moves and preparations for the upcoming season.

  • Jets find GM to pair with Aaron Glenn by landing Darren Mougey

The Jets completed their long search for a new general manager Friday, hiring Darren Mougey to pair with new head coach Aaron Glenn, The Post has confirmed.

Mougey has been the Broncos’ assistant GM since 2022.

The 39-year-old has been with the Broncos since 2012, rising from scouting intern to assistant GM.

Mougey has worked under two different GMs — John Elway and current boss George Paton.

He was part of a Super Bowl-winning team in 2015 and helped the Broncos get back to the playoffs this season despite having a league-high $89 million in dead money on the salary cap.

That number cut the margin of error down for the team in its offseason moves and the front office could not afford many misses.

The Arizona native went to San Diego State, where he was teammates with Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell.

Mougey is 6 foot 6 and is said to have a presence about him when he walks into a room.

He is known as a good communicator and has survived six different head coaches in Denver.

The Jets hired Glenn on Wednesday as their new head coach.

It is not known if Glenn and Mougey have any connections outside of both working with Broncos coach Sean Payton, whom Glenn worked with in New Orleans.

The Jets interviewed 15 candidates for their GM opening.

Mougey first interviewed on Jan. 11.

He had a second interview Thursday.

The franchise also interviewed Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown and Commanders assistant GM Lance Newmark a second time.

The New York Jets have made a big move by hiring Darren Mougey as their new general manager to work alongside head coach Aaron Glenn. Mougey, who has an extensive background in player development and personnel management, will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Jets organization.

With Mougey at the helm, the Jets are poised to make some significant changes and improvements to their roster. His expertise in talent evaluation and strategic decision-making will be invaluable as the team looks to build a competitive and successful roster for the upcoming season.

Fans are eager to see what the new GM-coach duo can accomplish together, and are hopeful that this partnership will lead to a bright future for the Jets. Stay tuned for more updates as Mougey and Glenn work together to bring success to the New York Jets. #Jets #GM #AaronGlenn #DarrenMougey #NFL

  • Former NFC North Head Coach Identified as Potential Aaron Glenn Replacement

Since their disappointing elimination at the hands of the Washington Commanders, the Detroit Lions have been going through a radical transformation. Dan Campbell already lost his offensive and defensive coordinators and is at serious risk of more assistant coaches departing.

How the Lions are going to fill the massive shoes of Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn remains to be seen. Campbell hasn’t ruled anything out and said that he is willing to consider both internal and external hires in the process.

Colton Pouncy of The Athletic identified these potential candidates in his latest column. A long list of defensive coordinator candidates includes internal options like linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard, defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend, and defensive assistant Jim O’Neil. The most fascinating name on the list, however, is a very familiar name to NFC North teams.

Former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus was one of the first names mentioned by Pouncy in his list of defensive coordinator candidates.

“Eberflus was often criticized for his game management as a head coach. But there’s no denying he’s a good coordinator…He might not be the leader-of-men type that Glenn was, but he knows how to run a defense. “

    – Colton Pouncy, The Athletic

This is a surprising inclusion, as Eberflus had a disastrous tenure in Chicago over the last three seasons. Since his hiring in the 2022 offseason, Eberflus struggled immensely as the Bears head coach, leading them to a 14-32 record. As a result, he became the first head coach to be fired mid-season in franchise history.

At the same time, we have seen plenty of coaches who struggled as a head coach but thrived in a coordinator role. Pouncy stated that Eberflus still knows how to run a defense even though he failed in certain head coaching aspects.

Eberflus was the defensive coordinator for the Colts for four seasons before going to Chicago. In Indianapolis, he led them to back-to-back top-ten finishes in defense, including some of the best run defenses in the league. That certainly hasn’t translated to his tenure with the Bears.

There are certainly benefits to hiring an experienced defensive coordinator who knows the division so well. It would make the transition from Aaron Glenn that much easier, but whether Eberflus fits in the player-centric and motivational stylings of Dan Campbell is a different question.

More Detroit Lions News and Rumors:

According to recent reports, a former NFC North head coach has been identified as a potential replacement for Aaron Glenn, who recently left his position as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.

The unnamed coach, who has not been officially named by the Lions organization, is said to have a strong track record of success in the NFC North and is highly regarded for his defensive acumen.

While no official announcement has been made yet, many fans and analysts are speculating that this coach could bring a fresh perspective and strategic approach to the Lions’ defense.

Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available on this potential coaching change.

  • New York Jets News: Aaron Glenn draws Bill Parcells’ approval

Good morning Gang Green Nation! The New York Jets hired Aaron Glenn to be their new head coach two days ago. Now we await the decision on a new general manager. The three finalists are rumored to be Darren Mougey, Trey Brown and Lance Newmark. All three have already completed second interviews with the Jets, so presumably it won’t be long until we have a decision. It’s difficult to glean much from candidates that have never actually been NFL general managers. My top two choices going into this process were Alec Halaby and Trey Brown, so I still have one guy in contention. However, I have very little confidence I or anyone else outside of NFL front offices have enough information on these guys to make a very confident assessment as to their relative merits. All we can do is hope for the best and brace for the worst.
