The news of their rekindled romance has sparked excitement among fans, who are eager to see what the future holds for this dynamic duo. Stay tuned for more updates on Christina Haack and Ant Anstead’s journey back to love.
During an Instagram Live on Wednesday, Jan. 29, Christina Haack sat down with her ex-husband, Tarek El Moussa, and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, to answer fan questions about their new HGTV competition series. And while the trio confirmed that they are, in fact, on a private text chain together, the reality stars remained coy about the name.
“Oh, we have a group chat,” Christina, 41, said in response to a viewer question.
“We don’t have a name,” Heather, 37, chimed in before saying, “Oh! I know what it would be.”
Heather then proceeded to whisper the potential name to Christina, who emphatically agreed. “Yes!” she responded.
However, the ladies declined to share the potential group chat name with fans.
Later in the conversation, another person asked if fans can expect a Heather and Christina spin-off show at some point in the future.
“No,” Tarek, 43, quickly said in a jokingly firm voice.
Heather and Christina, however, seemed intrigued by the idea, with Heather saying, “Flip Off! Girls Edition!” with a laugh.

The Flip Off was initially announced in May 2024 and was originally set to follow Tarek and Heather as they competed in a house flipping competition against Christina and her then-partner, Josh Hall. However, the show’s premise became less clear after Josh, 44, officially filed for divorce from Christina on July 15, 2024 after nearly three years of marriage.
Promotions for the show have since only featured Christina, Tarek and Heather, and a December 2024 press release from HGTV confirmed that Christina would be working with her “trusted team” as opposed to her ex this season.
Further details about the situation between Christina and Josh emerged during the show’s premiere on Jan. 29.
In an on-camera sit down between Christina and Tarek — who co-parent kids Taylor, 14, and Brayden, 9 — Christina revealed that Josh would give her the silent treatment whenever she spoke to Tarek.
“You make him very insecure,” she tearfully told Tarek during the conversation. “Every time we’d barely joke at [the kids’] soccer [games], or if I laughed at you, he like would not speak to me for two to three days.”
Christina and Tarek separated in 2016 after seven years of marriage and officially divorced the following year, though they continued to host their HGTV show Flip or Flop for several seasons after their split.
In a Jan. 29th appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Christina shared that she thinks competing on the upcoming season without a partner actually puts her at an advantage.
“It’s so much easier without somebody else bothering me,” she said on the talk show. “I mean, I don’t have to ask approval from anyone. No one’s, like, weighing me down.”
The Flip Off airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV.
Christina Haack and Heather El Moussa, former co-stars on HGTV’s hit show “Flip or Flop,” have revealed that they are still in touch with their ex-husband Tarek El Moussa through a group chat.
In a recent interview, Haack and El Moussa opened up about their relationship with Tarek and how they have maintained a friendship despite their past differences. They shared that they have a group chat where they can communicate and share updates about their families and projects.
Haack and El Moussa both expressed gratitude for the ability to co-parent their children and work together professionally, despite their divorce. They emphasized the importance of communication and respect in their relationship with Tarek.
Fans of the trio are thrilled to hear that they are still in touch and supporting each other, even after going through a public divorce. Many have praised them for setting a positive example of co-parenting and maintaining a healthy relationship for the sake of their children.
It’s heartwarming to see Christina Haack, Heather El Moussa, and Tarek El Moussa come together as a blended family and continue to support each other in their personal and professional lives. HGTV star Christina Haack‘s bitter divorce from Josh Hall took center stage in the premiere episode of her new show, “The Flip Off,” which saw the starlet candidly explaining what led to the breakdown of her marriage.
Haack and Hall called quits on their relationship in July 2024—just two weeks after they began filming a new HGTV project alongside Tarek El Moussa and his wife Heather Rae El Moussa.
The show had originally meant to focus on a renovation battle between the two couples; however, after Haack and Hall’s divorce news emerged, the latter was quickly removed from all promotional materials for the series, with reports suggesting that Haack was going to enlist several guest stars to help her with her home flips.
While Hall no longer plays a central role in “The Flip Off,” his divorce was the main focus of its premiere episode—which captured the emotional moment that Haack broke down in tears as she told Tarek that her relationship was over.
After asking him to come over to her house so they could speak “in private,” she tells her former spouse—with whom she shares two children—that she and Hall had “officially split up.”
Christina Haack’s new show with ex-husband Tarek El Moussa and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, got off to a very dramatic start.

The premiere episode of “The Flip Off” saw Haack breaking down in tears as she revealed to Tarek that she and husband Josh Hall had split.

Hall, who filed for divorce from Haack in July, was originally meant to star alongside her in the HGTV show, which began filming not long before they split.

“Things with Josh have been bad for a long time. Not just kind of bad. Like, bad,” Haack goes on. “And the kids literally asked me to leave. They told me he’s not nice to me.”
She then admits to Tarek that Hall always made her feel “very insecure”—before claiming that Hall used to get bitterly jealous any time she and Tarek shared a friendly moment.
“Every time, like, we would barely joke at soccer, or if I laughed at you, he like would not speak to me for like two to three days,” Haack claims. “I would get silent treatment.
“He doesn’t like me, calls me cocky, thinks I’m arrogant, when we both know I’m not cocky or arrogant. I just do work.”
Tarek comforts Haack, reassuring her, “You’re not any of those things, he’s projecting.” He then adds, “You’re a great mother, you’re a great daughter, you are a great human.”
Haack then reflects on how her life was thrown into turmoil after she and Tarek split in 2016, admitting that she’s felt like she’s been in a “tornado” that she can’t escape.
“I feel like I’m in a tornado all the time, like, and I just can’t get out of it,” she says while breaking down in tears.
“Everything since, like, 2016, has been so hard and so horrible, honestly. There’s so many good things, but there’s just so many bad things. And it’s really taken a really bad toll on me.
In an emotional confrontation, Haack confesses to Tarek that she feels as though her life has been in turmoil since they divorced in 2016.
She later confesses that she “never wanted” to divorce Tarek.
(HGTV)
“I feel like I try to hide it and act like I’m not affected, but then I just do more stupid things to try to make myself feel better. And I just keep doing it and then, like, getting into things too fast that are not, that I know aren’t right.”
Later, Haack confesses to the cameras that she “never wanted” to get divorced from Tarek, hinting that she only began dating Hall because she “felt safer” in a relationship than being single.
“I never wanted to get divorced,” she reveals. “I’m the only one in my family to ever get a divorce, so I just felt like it’s safer to be back in a relationship. But ultimately, that was not safe either.”
Tarek urged his former spouse not to “be hard” on herself, conceding that the two of them “went through a lot” in the wake of their split.
“I know we’re like, in a good place now, but yeah, we went through a lot of stuff,” Haack agrees. “I don’t think anyone understands just how much stuff we went through and, like, we met when we were so young.”
She adds that one of the hardest things about their split was the loss of her “best friend,” prompting Tarek to confess his guilt over how much hardship she has faced.
“I understand that feeing of being a little bit lost, you know?”he tells her. “And I acknowledge, you know, that I’m a big part, if not the entire part, of all of this.”
Through tears, Haack responds, “And honestly, like, I’m really sorry for s—. I really am. I want you to know that. I want you to know that I’m really sorry, I did some really weird s—. I’m really sorry, OK.”
While Tarek has a sweet reconciliation with Haack, he is later seen getting into a bitter spat with his wife, Heather.
Heather El Moussa admits that she feels extra pressure to win the design challenge because she knows so many people will be pitting her against Haack.
(Instagram)
Tarek then vows to always “have [her] back,” insisting that he’s tried to support her for “a really long time.”
The sweet reconciliation between the two exes is a stark contrast to the El Moussas less-than-positive interaction during the episode when they get into a furious spat over the interior design elements that Heather has picked for the home they are flipping.
After Heather pulls out her chosen cabinets for the kitchen, Tarek asks to see “other options,” only for his spouse to inform him that there are none, because she has already picked the ones they will use.
Taken aback by her decision, Tarek says: “You didn’t ask me?” only for Heather to insist that she didn’t “need” his input, before questioning if he dislikes the way the kitchen looks with her chosen white-and-brown design.
Tarek seems unsure. “It’s just not something that I normally see, because normally, you know, they’d be consistent,” he explains.
“This house is not going to be something that you normally see. We’re taking risks here,” Heather argues. “Think about, like, these high-end homes—they take risks.”
“Well, do we want to take risks?” Tarek counters. “I mean, we’re in a competition.”
“It can’t just be, like, boring. This is Heather’s house,” Heather says, then adds, “and yours. But—”
Tarek seems offended. “Just like our son. It’s Heather’s son,” he says before taking a pause. “And mine. This house is yours. And mine.”
In the end, Heather and Tarek’s kitchen is declared the winner by guest judge Heather Dubrow.
However, Dubrow was incredibly impressed by Christina’s work and predicted that she may come out on top at the end of the challenge.
Later, as they’re discussing the design for the home’s fireplace, Heather admits that she’s feeling additional pressure to nail the renovation—because she knows that viewers are going to compare her to Haack, pitting the former wife against the current.
“You’re upsetting me. You’re upsetting me. You’re upsetting me. I am so stressed out. You don’t even understand. Everyone’s gonna be talking smack about me against her,” Heather shares.
Later, in an interview with producers, she admits that a lot is on the line with this design, saying: “I want to prove to Christina that [she is] not better than me.”
Ultimately, guest judge, “Real Housewives of Orange County” star Heather Dubrow, determines that Tarek and Heather put together the winning kitchen. But while they won the battle, she predicts that Haack will claim victory in the renovation war.
“You guys created a really beautiful space,” Dubrow tells Heather and Tarek. “But you’re so hot on winning each challenge, especially Tarek, and thinking about room to room. But you could win all the battles and lose the war.”
She then looks at Haack, saying, “She’s looking to win the war.”
Thinking back on the judging, Heather seems unsatisfied. Even though her kitchen won, she seems upset that Dubrow was so impressed with Haack.
“Damn. I know that our design was incredible, so I’m like, ‘What did she do?’” Heather wonders.

HGTV star Christina Haack is not thrilled with her situation: all three of her marriages have ended in divorce.
In an emotional conversation between the reality star and her first ex-husband, Tarek El Moussa, Haack admitted that since the couple’s own split, she had been doing “stupid things” to alleviate her pain, like entering into relationships prematurely.
“I feel like I try to hide and act like I’m not affected but then I just do more stupid things to try to make myself feel better,” Haack told El Moussa, per People, in the season premiere of their new show, “The Flip Off,” which also stars El Moussa’s second wife, Heather Rae El Moussa.

“I just keep doing it and getting into things too fast that I know aren’t right.”
Haack and El Moussa officially divorced in 2018, after separating in 2016. The couple were plagued with several issues throughout their marriage, including El Moussa’s cancer. Less than a year after their initial separation, Haack started dating TV presenter Ant Anstead, whom she would later marry, welcome a child with and then separate from in 2020.

Anstead, who is now dating actress Renée Zellweger, accused Haack during the divorce of exploiting the couple’s son online. Their divorce was finalized in 2021. She married her third husband, realtor Josh Hall, in 2021 after a monthslong engagement, although they split in July 2024, which she said was welcome news to her children.

“The kids literally asked me to leave,” Haack said of her daughter Taylor, 14, and son Brayden, 9, whom she shares with El Moussa. “They told me he’s not nice to me. Why would I stick around?”
“I never wanted to get divorced,” she told the camera during the episode. “I’m the only person in my family to ever get a divorce. So I just felt like it’s safe to be back in a relationship, but ultimately, that was not safe either.”
Haack recently shared that Hall was taking her to court, uninterested in mediation, in what has turned into contentious proceedings.
Hall was expected to star in the show alongside Haack and her ex, but left the project after their split. Haack told Fox News Digital that working alongside him would have been difficult for a plethora of reasons. “I think on camera — some people are very comfortable on camera, some aren’t,” she explained. “And that’s totally understandable. [Josh] wasn’t super comfortable on camera. I think he’s too hard on himself, too much in his head.”
“And then also, he doesn’t have a lot of experience in flipping houses,” she continued, which is the premise of the show. “So if you combine the two, it’s kind of a recipe for disaster.”

On August 5, HGTV star Christina Haack took to Instagram to open up about her recent whirlwind romance and admitted that she may have rushed into it too quickly. Haack, who was previously married three times, shared that she has learned a lot from her past relationships and is now taking the time to focus on herself.
In her post, Haack wrote, “I know I rushed into a relationship too soon, as I tend to do. I had never been single in my life and I needed to learn how to be alone. I am grateful for the lessons I’ve learned and the growth I’ve experienced.”
Haack’s honesty and vulnerability were met with an outpouring of support from her fans, many of whom praised her for being open about her struggles and for taking the time to prioritize her own well-being.
It’s not easy to admit when we make mistakes, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. But Haack’s willingness to share her story serves as a powerful reminder that it’s okay to take things slow, to focus on yourself, and to learn from past relationships before jumping into something new.
As Haack continues on her journey of self-discovery, we can only hope that she finds the happiness and fulfillment she deserves.
Some fixer-uppers are beyond repair, even for Christina Haack.
The interior designer shed new light into her marriage problems with ex Josh Hall during the season premiere of her hew HGTV reality competition series The Flip Off.
After breaking the news about her and Josh’s divorce to her first ex-husband Tarek El Moussa, Christina revealed the retired police officer had a not-so-pleasant side behind closed doors before they broke up for good last summer after two years of marriage.
“He doesn’t like me,” Christina—who shares children Taylor, 14, and Brayden, 9, with Tarek, as well as son Hudson, 5, with second ex-husband Ant Anstead—told her ex during the Jan. 29 episode. “He calls me cocky. He thinks I’m arrogant, when we both know I’m not cocky or arrogant and I just do work.”
Tarek tried comforting his ex during the emotional heart-to-heart, telling her, “You’re not any other those things. He’s projecting. You’re a great mother, a great daughter. You are a great human.”
But Christina wasn’t the only one who witnessed Josh’s temper.
“The kids literally asked me to leave,” she recalled to Tarek. “They told me he’s not nice to me.”

The 41-year-old also told Tarek that Josh “would not speak to me for two or three days” at times during their marriage because Josh was “insecure” around him.
Christina then broke down in tears while reflecting on going through three divorces in less than a decade.
“I feel like I’m in a tornado all the time and I just can’t get out of it,” she cried to Tarek. “Everything since like 2016 has been so hard and so horrible. It’s really taken a really bad toll on me. There’s so many good things but there’s so many bad things and it’s taken a really bad toll on me.”

“I feel like I try to hide it and act like I’m not affected,” she continued, “but then I just do more stupid things to try to make myself feel better and then I keep doing it and getting into things too fast that I know aren’t right.”
In a confessional, the Christina on the Coast star shared her insecurities over her past relationship failures.
“I never wanted to get divorced,” she admitted. “I’m the only person in my family to ever get a divorce. So I just feel like it’s safer to be back in a relationship, but ultimately that was not safe either.”

As for Tarek, he only had one question in the wake of Christina and Josh’s split: Was she still willing to compete against him and wife Heather Rae El Moussa in their Flip Off house renovation competition without a partner by her side?
“Yes, I’m still gonna do it,” she confirmed. “And I’m gonna do it better. I have more time now. I lost Josh but you know what? He doesn’t really know what he’s doing with flipping.”

Christina Haack, star of HGTV’s hit show “Christina on the Coast,” has opened up about the insults her ex-husband, Ant Anstead, allegedly hurled at her before their divorce. In a recent interview, Haack revealed that Anstead called her “selfish” and “ungrateful” during their marriage, which ultimately led to their split.
Haack, who was previously married to Tarek El Moussa, has been candid about the ups and downs of her relationships in the past. However, she admitted that the insults from Anstead were particularly hurtful and played a significant role in their decision to divorce.
In the interview, Haack also shared that she has since found love again with real estate agent Josh Hall. Despite the challenges she faced in her previous marriages, Haack remains optimistic about her future and is grateful for the lessons she has learned along the way.

During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Tuesday, Jan. 28, the trio shared that their kids are constantly embarrassed by everything they do.
“The sound of my voice embarrasses [his daughter Taylor], even when I’m not talking,” Tarek, 43, said. Christina, 41, added that her daughter is also embarrassed by “the songs I play when I drop her off, if the windows are down.”

“She’s embarrassed by us,” Heather, 37, added. “We have a sprinter, and if we show up in the sprinter, she’s like ‘Why are you in the sprinter?’”
She added, “I’m like ‘We’re cool! Look at us.’”
Back in 2010, Tarek became a father for the first time when his then-wife Christina gave birth to their daughter, Taylor. In 2015, the couple became parents again when they welcomed son Brayden. Host Jennifer Hudson also asked the trio about how they managed “co-parenting” and “doing the show together.”
“The point is it’s better for the kids when everyone’s getting along, and we genuinely are. And we’re genuinely having so much fun doing this show,” Haack said.
“I feel like the kids love it that we’re doing a show together, and they can see their parents all working together,” Heather added. “They love it. They’re very supportive.”
Christina Haack, Tarek El Moussa, and his wife Heather Rae Young recently sat down for a candid conversation about co-parenting their children together. The trio, who all star on the hit HGTV show “Flip or Flop,” opened up about the challenges and rewards of raising their kids in a blended family.
Haack and El Moussa share two children together, Taylor and Brayden, while El Moussa and Young are raising their own blended family. Despite the complexities of their situation, the trio emphasized the importance of putting the children first and working together as a team.
“We may not have the most traditional family dynamic, but we are all committed to providing a loving and stable environment for our children,” Haack shared.
El Moussa echoed her sentiments, adding, “It’s not always easy, but we have a lot of love and respect for each other, and that goes a long way in making co-parenting work.”
Young, who is a relatively new addition to the family, expressed her gratitude for the open communication and mutual respect that exists between all parties.
“I feel lucky to be a part of this family and to be able to co-parent with such amazing people,” she said. “We may not always see eye to eye, but we always have the best interests of the children at heart.”

Fans who’ve followed Christina Haack (formerly Hall) and Tarek El Moussa’s relationship over the past decade will want to tune into HGTV Wednesday night as their new reality show The Flip Off premieres with a bang.
The competition series, which also stars Tarek’s wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, features an emotional sit-down between the exes whose sometimes tumultuous history has been well documented in the press since their 2016 split.
“I think it was extremely healing,” Tarek told Yahoo Entertainment of their on-screen conversation. “Not just for the two of us, but I think for many around the world that have [watched] our story since 2012. So I think a lot of people have been waiting for that moment and it finally came.”

The emotional moment occurs when Haack tells Tarek that she and husband Josh Hall are divorcing. Hall appears in the debut episode as the show was meant to be a house-flipping competition between both couples. However, Hall abruptly exited The Flip Offwhen he and Haack split in July 2024.
In the first episode, appropriately titled “The Breakup,” Tarek comforts Haack as she opens up about the demise of her third marriage.
“I feel like I’m in a tornado all the time and I just can’t get out of it,” Haack cried in the premiere. “Everything since 2016 has been so hard and so horrible.” She also apologized to Tarek, “I’m really sorry for shit too. I really am. I just want you to know.”
Tarek, appearing emotional, replied: “I understand that feeling of being a little bit lost. And I acknowledge that I’m a big part, if not the entire part, of all of this.”
When speaking to Yahoo Entertainment, Haack said the scene was “healing for other people” too.
“I know personally, some people even on set who have been through divorces, who are struggling with their exes and struggling with co-parenting, those people always admired how we co-parented,” she said. “But to see that happen in person, people were crying and they said, ‘This is just inspiring to have this relationship with my ex now.’”
Haack and Tarek share two kids: daughter Taylor, 14, and son Brayden, 9. Although they separated in 2016, they continued to work together on HGTV’s hit Flip or Flop until 2022. However, it wasn’t always smooth sailing — something they poke fun at in The Flip Off‘s first episode as headlines flash of their off-screen disagreements. Now? The two are closer than ever (as friends).
“We’ve had our ups and downs, but filming was never our problem,” Haack explained. “We both knew how to turn it on when it came to the camera, right? I mean, we filmed together for five years post separation [and] divorce.”
Haack said she, Tarek and Heather are “all in a very good spot.”
“I think all of us were a little bit worried how this could affect our relationship. Ultimately, it did bring us closer together,” Haack continued. “Filming a TV show is … not easy. And to have a dynamic with strong personalities like [Heather and Tarek] could be hard. I’ve filmed with a lot of people and it’s not so easy, but filming with Heather was so easy, so fun. And that made the show so much better.”
Heather told Yahoo Entertainment she had no worries about filming The Flip Off with Tarek’s ex-wife but wanted to make sure it wouldn’t mess up their new dynamic.
“I definitely had some reservations … ‘Can they film again together? Do you guys wanna do this? Are we gonna get along? … Is this gonna affect the kids at all in a negative way?’” Heather said. But she agreed The Flip Off “brought us closer together.”
“We got to know each other in a different way, on a deeper level, and I really enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to,” added Heather, who also starred on Selling Sunset. “And I think it was fun for [Christina and Tarek] to come back together and film — there’s no drama right now in our lives. We’re all just having a great time filming this show together.”
The Flip Off premieres Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. ET on HGTV.
Heather Rae El Moussa had ‘reservations’ if husband Tarek and his ex Christina Haack could film ‘The Flip Off.’ It brought them all ‘closer together.’
In a recent interview, Heather Rae El Moussa opened up about her initial reservations when she found out that her husband Tarek El Moussa and his ex-wife Christina Haack would be filming a new show together called ‘The Flip Off.’ Heather admitted that she was unsure how the dynamic would work with all three of them working together, but ultimately, it brought them all closer together.
Despite her concerns, Heather revealed that working on the show with Tarek and Christina actually helped to strengthen their co-parenting relationship and improve their communication. She shared that they were all able to put aside any past issues and focus on their shared goal of creating a successful show.
Heather also admitted that seeing Tarek and Christina work together on ‘The Flip Off’ made her realize the importance of putting their children first and working as a team. She expressed gratitude for the positive impact that the show had on their family dynamic and how it ultimately brought them all closer together.
Overall, Heather’s experience with ‘The Flip Off’ showed her that sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone and facing your reservations can lead to unexpected growth and positive outcomes.

When it comes to flipping houses (and the script), TarekElMoussa and ChristinaHaack have made their mark on the home renovation game. The formerly married couple, once synonymous with HGTV’s Flip or Flop, turned real estate drama into must-watch television across 10 seasons. But their personal life, including a very public and ugly divorce, began to overshadow those professional wins, with the pair soon splitting off individually through their respective shows. Now that the two have finally worked through their issues, El Moussa and Haack are back with the highly anticipated series The Flip Off, a no-holds-barred competition to see who truly reigns supreme in the flipping world.
The sharp and bold six-episode venture is undoubtedly entertaining and surprisingly grounded, proving these pros can still steal the show and keep their heads in the game. First announced last spring and finally getting its premiere tonight on HGTV (and streaming the next day on Max), The Flip Off brought along with it more than six months of real-time problems that fed the gossip rags. But even with the receipts of drama tagging along in the form of Haack’s very public divorce from Josh Hall, the show is a lot more than that. Finally getting context for what Haack endured behind the scenes, which, in layman’s terms, is emotional abuse at the hands of Hall’s controlling and rather derogatory language, the show doesn’t make it about the drama and eventual divorce.
Instead, the two-hour premiere is rooted in the genuine relationship between Haack, her ex El Moussa and his wife Heather as they work to bring their flipped homes up. It’s not at all flashy or tacky, or missing the point. From a very leveled baseline of respect,The Flip Off is refreshingly focused and addresses the drama maturely while giving fans what they love most — striking home renovations built from strategy and budget.
What Is ‘The Flip Off’ About?

When it comes to HGTV expanding its legacy franchises with beloved personalities like the Property Brothers or the Good Bonesstars, there is no doubt the network nails it with competition shows. From Brother Vs. Brotherto Rock the Block, HGTV has a real knack for combining star power with high-stakes drama. The Flip Off follows suit, pitting El Moussa and Haack against one another in a flipping showdown that taps into their storied past, but also puts their skills and budget to the test as they renovate the kitchen, main suite, living room, guest suite, extra bedroom and exterior of their chosen properties. To raise the stakes across six episodes, the teams will take turns handpicking special guest judges to evaluate the transformed rooms based on design, use of space, quality of work, overall transformation, and added value. In the opener, Heather Dubrow from The Real Housewives of Orange County delivers some particularly standout feedback as she evaluates the transformed rooms and picks a winner.
It’s a pretty basic premise, but it’s also a lot of fun as the former couple lays it out all for a high-stakes game. In the premiere, El Moussa teams up with his equally talented wife, Heather Rae El Moussa(Selling Sunset), whereas Haack initially works alongside now-estranged husband Josh Hall. While we see who can score the highest profits on their flips, the show genuinely allows the audience to appreciate their skills without unnecessary theatrics. Instead, all that drama is sprinkled in very delicately to balance nail-biting renovation with the deeply personal issues simultaneously being detangled in the corner.
“Pretty sure no one at HGTV told you to be rude to me….That was all natural.”
As the competition intensifies, the stakes begin to rise with each new challenge. While The Flip Off effectively captures moments of vulnerability between Haack and El Moussa, it also shows viewers what they love most — the pressure of tight deadlines and unexpected setbacks, like bad plumbing, which is almost every old home’s arch nemesis. But one of the most interesting features is the added incentive of a $2,000 weekly cash prize, which the winning team can use to boost the renovation of their next space. It’s another smart element of healthy competition that not only increases the tension between the groups but adds a thrilling layer of gameplay for the audience.
‘The Flip Off’s Drama Isn’t What You Expect
Between the show’s seamless and sharp production, we also get exactly what we expect, courtesy of the issues that, unfortunately, played out so heavily last year. There’s the argument to be made that editing creates a narrative that weaves itself between heroes and villains. But it doesn’t force people to say very specific, awful, and problematic things. For instance, Hall’s extremely toxic behavior and grossly undermining comments toward Haack and even El Moussa stand out despite HGTV’s editing efforts. Framing him as cocky and the walking definition of toxic masculinity is one thing, but him saying to Haack how he wished she’d “shut up already” or how she’s “pissing him off” is something wholly different, especially with the knowledge that they’re on camera. It also raises red flags when Hall tells El Moussa at the start of the competition (while the two are at El Moussa and Haack’s son’s soccer tournament, no less) to “act like a man,” reinforcing archaically rigid and sexist stereotypes.
Reactions can certainly be edited and stitched in specific ways to make it look like someone’s feeling upset or on the verge of tears, but there’s no denying Hall’s behavior was aligned with emotional abuse and a large factor in the pain Haack suffered during their breakup. At one point in the episode, Haack breaks down with El Moussa while revealing her split from Hall and admits their children even told her to leave him. It’s shocking and hard to hear, but El Moussa is, in every part, the definition of a supportive ex who respects the mother of his children and owns up to his issues, including his rather troubling part in their very tumultuous divorce. Even Heather is incredibly supportive and manages to make sure El Moussa is sensitive around his ex-wife as she navigates yet another split.
Despite El Moussa even playfully teasing Haack at times (though she can take it), Heather is kind and genuinely concerned about her welfare and wants to make sure that they stay focused on the competition. As someone who is immediately the caregiver of the show, we also see how helpful she is to her husband, who suffers from anxiety in the series and has ADHD. Meanwhile, Hall leaves the competition rather abruptly and there is no love lost when watching the rest of the premiere as he doesn’t offer much direction or assistance on the project. Whereas El Moussa used to be the “cheapskate” during his renovations with then-wife Haack in the decade of their series Flip or Flop, the tables have turned, and we now see Haack bringing her knowledge of prior experiences to their new project. Yet Hall doesn’t see it that way and condescends her decisions, proving the two clash more than they can collaborate.
‘The Flip Off’ Ultimately Keeps the Focus on the HGTV of It All
However, The Flip Off is by no means a Bravo show or something like The Bachelor. HGTV maintains its signature flair for home and garden charm by smoothing out the drama in an effective way that never takes away from the renovations. As a show that has been highly anticipated for months, The Flip Off is fun and insightful, worlds sharper than when El Moussa and Haack first started on HGTV in 2013. With the two having grown on the network, the glimpse of their family life is a welcome sprinkle that adds a layer of relatability to the high-stakes flipping world. As the two navigate their complex relationship while striving to outdo each other in a competitive environment, it’s clear that their past together, while full of tension, also lays the foundation for the way they approach renovation projects today. With their emotional growth effectively channeled into the work itself, The Flip Off is not only entertaining but a poignant reflection of overcoming hardship and the resilience that is required for both aspects of their life.
Though only one episode was made available for review, viewers will likely see more of these nuanced moments between El Moussa, his wife, and Haack, where personal and competitiveness collide. If the first episode sets the tone for what audiences can expect in the next five, it’s clear it will be all fun and games with a healthy dose of drama. In its two-hour premiere, The Flip Off doesn’t shy away from the emotional undercurrents that make the renovations feel more meaningful, as the stakes are higher than just dollars and design at this point. But it’s playful thanks to the animated banter between El Moussa and Haack, as well as El Moussa and Heather. As a show that celebrates second chances through reflection, in the end, it’s not just about who can flip the best house — it’s about how, despite their messy and painful past, these two know how to keep building.
The Flip Off airs Wednesdays at 8 PM EST on HGTV and streams the next day on Max.

Don’t miss out on the drama and design magic of Tarek El Moussa & Christina Haack’s new series on HGTV. It’s sure to be a wild ride!
While promoting her new house-flipping competition show The Flip Off, the HGTV star said she was more than happy to film the series solo after splitting from her ex Josh Hall, who had been her personal and professional partner.
“It’s so much easier without somebody else bothering me,” Haack said during Tuesday’s episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show. “I don’t have to ask approval from anyone. No one’s, like, weighing me down.”
When The Flip Off was first announced in May 2024, Haack was slated to team up with then-husband Hall to face off against her ex-husband Tarek El Moussa and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, as they renovate and resell houses. But after a tense start to production culminated in Haack and Hall breaking up, she decided to continue the show alone.
According to Haack, that was ultimately for the best.

“So you don’t feel any disadvantages at all?” host Jennifer Hudson asked.
“No, I think I have an advantage,” Haack replied with a smile.
Hall filed for divorce from Haack last July, after nearly three years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. Haack also filed for divorce, and the contentious ongoing split has at times spilled into public view.
Hall and Haack previously shared the screen on Flip or Flop and Christina on the Coast, but as the two-hour Flip Off premiere will show, Hall would only last a single episode.
As for Haack’s relationship with the El Moussas, she described their dynamic on the show as “friendly competition.”
“It’s friendly fighting,” she insisted on JHS, while Tarek jokingly turned to the audience and quipped, “It’s not so friendly over here.”
Explaining the competition show’s origins, he said that Haack “was talking smack saying she could beat me in flipping houses, so of course we all knew that wouldn’t happen. So obviously if she’s going to challenge us to a flip-off, we’ve got to document it, right?”
While all three stars admitted to being competitive, they also pointed out a tendency to gang up on one member of the group.
“We pick on him a lot,” Heather Rae said of her husband, who nodded in agreement.

“It’s nonstop,” he said of the women teasing him. “The second all three of us get together, [Haack] will start picking on me and I’m thinking Heather’s going to jump in and defend me. Next thing I know they’re in it together, picking on me.”
“He’s an easy target,” Heather Rae said with a shrugged.
In addition to being costars, the trio are co-parents. Haack and Tarek El Moussa share two kids from their marriage, which ended in 2018. (She also has a child from a previous marriage to Ant Anstead.)
How does doing a show together affect their role as parents? “It kind of blends together,” Haack said. “Because the point is it’s better for the kids when everyone is getting along, and we genuinely are, and we’re genuinely having so much fun doing the show.”
The Flip Off debuts Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV. Watch the video above for more from Haack and the El Moussas.
Christina Haack, star of HGTV’s hit show “Christina on the Coast,” recently opened up about her experience filming “The Flip Off” without her ex-husband Josh Hall. In an interview with People magazine, Haack revealed that working on the show was “much easier” without Hall by her side.
Haack and Hall split in 2021 after less than a year of marriage, and the two have been embroiled in a contentious divorce ever since. Despite the challenges of navigating their personal lives, Haack explained that filming “The Flip Off” without Hall allowed her to focus on her work and the projects at hand.
“It was definitely a different experience without Josh there, but I have to say it was much easier in many ways,” Haack said. “I was able to really immerse myself in the renovations and the design process without any distractions. It was a refreshing change of pace.”
Haack also shared that she is excited for fans to see the upcoming season of “The Flip Off,” which is set to premiere later this year. “I think viewers are going to be blown away by the transformations we were able to make on this season,” she said. “I poured my heart and soul into these projects, and I can’t wait for everyone to see the final results.”
Despite the challenges of filming without her ex-husband, Haack remains focused on her career and her passion for design. And with the success of “The Flip Off” and her other projects, it’s clear that Haack is on the right path to building a bright future for herself.

Christina Haack (formerly known as Christina Hall) is feeling like her old self again! The HGTV star shared that she had officially changed her last name back amid her ongoing divorce from Josh Hall.
“Officially a Haack,” Christina, 41, wrote alongside a photo of the legal paperwork on January 25. “Identifying as only married twice. Time to update the Wikipedia.”
The Flip Off star married Josh, 44, in 2022, but two years later, they decided to part ways. Josh was the first to file for divorce on July 15, 2024, and Christina followed suit hours later. It didn’t take long for the divorce to become messy and a little over a week later, the Christina in the Country host claimed that Josh had diverted “over $35,000” from the bank account she used for her rental properties without her knowledge.
“I am asking for Josh to account for the funds taken and return them to me as those funds are specifically used to pay any loans, obligations, property taxes, insurance, and maintenance for these rental properties,” the court documents read, per Entertainment Tonight.
In response, Josh claimed that he had used the money to pay for expenses relating to the rental properties and stated he had previously been responsible for the bills connected with that home. Christina ultimately agreed to pay Josh $100,000 to use for his legal expenses.
Josh eventually broke his silence regarding his split from the Christina on the Coast star via Instagram in August 2024.
“I will not publicly badmouth anyone as people have families, friends and others who respect and love them. Unfortunately, the internet is forever,” Josh wrote on August 3, 2024. “We are real humans, this is our life and I am not here to entertain people I don’t know with my private matters. Those details will be handled fairly behind closed doors with our respective counsels in due time. Those who know each of us, know who we are.”
Christina Haack Legally Restores Her Maiden Name Amid Josh Hall Divorce
Less than a week later, Christina gave fans an update of her own via her Instagram Stories.
“I finally have my appetite back. I’m exercising again. My kids are happy and our house feels like home. Those poor kids adore me … anyone who knows us for real knows this and that’s what matters,” Christina wrote on August 9, 2024. “I’ve had some of my best nights with friends recently … laughed more than I have in forever. Work is going so good it feels like a dream. I have a life coach.”
The former spouses have continued to throw digs at one another on social media, including Christina documenting the removal of an infinity symbol tattooed on her wrist that was inspired by her relationship with the Texas real estate agent.
“4th times a charm (when it comes to tattoo removal),” Christina wrote alongside a video of the tattoo removal she shared via Instagram Stories on January 21. “Burns so good.”
She set the video to Sabrina Carpenter’s song “Feather,” which is about how much lighter someone can feel after ending a relationship.
Christina Haack, formerly known as Christina Anstead, has officially restored her maiden name in the wake of her divorce from estranged husband Josh Hall.
In a recent Instagram post, the HGTV star announced that she is now officially a “Haack” once again, reclaiming her original surname after her brief marriage to Hall.
Haack, who shares two children with her ex-husband Tarek El Moussa and one child with her ex-husband Ant Anstead, has been open about her struggles and triumphs in love and relationships. She recently announced her split from Hall after less than a year of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.
Despite the challenges she has faced in her personal life, Haack remains optimistic and resilient. She has expressed gratitude for her children, her career, and the support of her fans during this difficult time.
As she moves forward with her life and her career, Haack is embracing her identity as a Haack once again, symbolizing a fresh start and a renewed sense of self.
Fans and followers have flooded her social media with messages of support and encouragement, applauding her for her strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
We wish Christina Haack all the best as she embarks on this new chapter in her life, and we look forward to seeing her continue to thrive and inspire others with her journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
